So... I have a kinda secret but not really anymore habit of singing to myself after my girlfriend falls asleep on the phone with me, sooooo I decided to mess with the idea a little and ended up writing this lol
Also, I have loved Elvis' music since I was a little girl and these two are normally my go-to songs lol If you don't know them, they're Can't Help Falling In Love and Love Me Tender. Hope you enjoy it!
When you're with someone for long enough, you start to notice they have their comfort things.
For example, growing up my comfort thing was reading True Psychic Tale magazines. They made me feel accepted and gave me a place to think about that could allow me to be the person I wanted to be. Reading them became a comfort. They were my escape from my family's former fear of psychics and storytellers. They made me feel safe.
I couldn't help but smile as I felt the weight of a head fall softly onto my shoulder.
And for my girlfriend, Lili, her comfort came from plants as a kid. But over the years, I noticed she would spend less time in her garden when upset. Instead, she would simply sit with me and wait for me to fill the silence, as my presence alone would aid her through her troubles. At first, I would just ramble at whatever came to mind. This normally included True Psychic Tales editions I loved or just talking about my day up until that point. I would even just ramble about memories of living in the circus as a kid and how I would take care of different animals at times.
I tried to keep my voice soft and low as I sang gently to her.
But her favorite thing I would do for her in these moments was sing.
"Wise men say." I leaned my head against the top of hers as I looked toward the water surrounding the Motherlobe. "Only fools rush in." I intertwined my hand with hers as I felt her head nuzzle gently under mine. "But I can't help, falling in love with you." I felt my heart swell within my chest as I continued singing. "Shall I stay? Would it be a sin, if I can't help falling in love with you?" I rubbed my thumb against her hand as I let myself put a little more volume in my voice. "Like a river flows, surely to the sea. Darling, so it goes. Some things are meant to be." I took a second to bring her hand up to my lips and placed a gentle kiss on it before continuing again. "Take my hand." I made sure to squeeze her hand gently, which caused a small laugh to escape her. "Take my whole life, too. For I can't help falling in love with you."
"Like a river flows," I smiled like a fool as she decided to take over the next verse. "Surely to the sea."
"Darling, so it goes." I glanced down in the corner of my eye to see a shining smile coming from Lili.
"Some things are meant to be." We sang together before sharing a soft laugh. We soaked in the moment for a second before I decided to finish the song.
"Take my hand," I pulled back a little from her so I could see her face more. The warmest feeling took over my being as I saw the loving gleam in her eyes. "Take my whole life, too." I raised her hand to my lips once more as I placed another kiss on the back of it. "For I can't help falling in love with you." I dropped our hands into my lap before leaning over and placing my forehead against hers with a soft smile. "For I can't help," I closed my eyes and rubbed my nose against hers for a second before singing the last few words, barely above a whisper. "Falling in love with you." I chuckled to myself as I felt her free hand cup my face on the right side. "Feeling better?"
"Much better." I felt her pull back for just a moment before placing a soft kiss on my left cheek. "Thank you."
"Anytime, Lils." I opened my eyes slowly as she placed her forehead back against mine. "Wanna talk about it?"
"Honestly would rather hear you sing again." I couldn't help but chuckle at that as her thumb rubbed the back of mine.
"My voice isn't that good, though."
"It's yours." I watched her close her hazel eyes gently as a true aura of calmness flowed from her. "That's the most important part."
"Love me tender, love me sweet." I sang softly as I decided to watch her face's reaction this time around. "Never let me go. You have made my life complete."
"More Elvis I see." A gentle smile took over her face as I stopped to chuckle just a little.
"I blame my Nona."
"I'll thank her later." I smiled gently before singing once more.
"And I love you so. Love me tender, love me true. All my dreams fulfilled." I brought my right hand up to cup her face, like she did to me, as I wanted her to feel all I could muster in the next line. "For my darling, I love you," Her eyes fluttered open as I felt the widest smile take over my lips. "And I always will." I decided to stop there before leaning in and giving her a quick kiss. What was just a moment felt like forever, but when I pulled back, I heard four simple words that made everything second worth it.
"I love you too."
