Chapter 55: The Rocking Chair
(Eret's POV)
It's been almost two days since Michael and Stephen attacked my wife. She hasn't spoken since that day. That terrible, terrible day.
She's terrified that they'll come back and hurt her, or even worse, that they'll hurt Ruby.
Becky is asleep on the couch while I'm in the chair, reading, when I hear a knock at the door.
I go to open it and see Hiccup.
"Chief? Is everything okay?"
"Everything's fine, Eret. I just came to check up on Becky and you. How's she doing?"
"Honestly, she's not doing too well, Hiccup. She's had night terrors ever since the attack. I'm afraid to leave her."
"Yeah, I would be, too. I made something for the two of you, in the little spare time I have."
"Aw, Chief. You didn't have to make anything for us."
"I wanted to. It's a rocking chair. So, what do you think?"
Hiccup brings out a mahogany rocking chair, with a blue cushion on the seat and on the part where your back would be.
"It's perfect. That will work immensely. Thank you so much."
"You're welcome. If either of you need anything, let me know."
"Thanks, Hiccup."
"You're welcome. And, Eret?"
"Yes?"
"Make sure you get some sleep, too."
"I'll try, Chief."
I bring the chair in and set it near the couch, knowing that it will come in handy.
I just hope that Becky will be able to appreciate it, once she's better.
