The Coming of Chaos
Captain Litzenreich led his patrol through the forest of Middenland, he hated these patrols. Every since the coming of chaos, warriors like himself had to patrol the dark places of the empire. With him he brought about twenty-five warriors, ten of which where swordsmen, ten halberdiers, and five handgunners. This was his first patrol seeing how he had just recently be promoted to Captain Status. With his sword at his waist and Hammer in hand he advanced through the dense foliage to a solemn battle hymn. As the hymn reached its end Litzenreich heard the faint sound of a hundred hooves pounding down onto the earth. Then from the rear of the column came a cry of death. Litzenreich turned around his giant warhammer held at the ready, what he saw next was a young swordsman by the name of Elias with a crude arrowhead erupting through his chest. Then another arrow hissed by and landed in the ground next to Elias' corpse. The shapes started to appear in the mist………they were beastmen…….
"To me sons of Sigmar! For The Empire!" He yelled as he charged the nearest beastman battering it aside with his hammer. Then it happened……..they charged…….one hundred beasts against twenty-five men of the empire. In an instant Litzenreich's men were at his side ready to face whatever end. The two lines met and the sounds of battle echoed through the woods. At first it seemed his men would do ok, but then another hundred beasts erupted from the forest behind him. The handgunners tried to fight but were overwhelmed by the numbers of the beastmen. Litzenreich battered beastmen with his hammer and his warriors killed their fare share, but eventually they would fall, and so would he, but these spawns of chaos would not find this warrior to go down easily. Slowly the human line began to crumble and eventually fell. The only one left was Litzenreich who had a circle of corpses surrounding him. Every beast to challenge him was beat down. He was losing strength and he had to drop his hammer and draw his sword and shield. The light weight sword made it easier to cast aside foes, he fought until he couldn't fight any more, and he was ready to die. Then he thought he could hear the sound of horses and the cries of men, then he saw it…….It was some of the elite Middenhiem cavalry, the Knights of the White Wolf. The beastmen were just as amazed as him, he sized the moment and drove his sword through the gut of a nearby beastman. The beastmen sensed the new threat and began to charge. They ran right around him, and he swung furiously beheading the charging beastmen. The he realized that if some of the beastmen were to notice him he'd be cut down. He turned toward the charging knights and watched as a beastman found his mark and drove its spear into one of the knight close to him. He charged over and separated the beast at the waist. He moved towards the horse and mounted it. He charged forward joining his brothers in arms. He charged a group of beastmen enclosing on a lone knight, he and the knight together cut a bloody swath through the beasts, Litzenreich with his sword and the knight with his two handed cavalry hammer.
With the beastmen routed and run down Litzenreich could seek out the captain of the White Wolf and thank him. "Greetings sir Erasmus, I am Captain Litzenreich, Thank you for coming to my aid, I am forever in debt to you and your knights." "Nay, my brother you fought until there was no hope, and even then you fought on, and that is why you live, Ulric blessed you." The knight told him. After that no more words passed between the captains, later that day they rode for Middenhiem, and home.
