The Super Smash Bros were on the brink of ruin. They were entrapped on a single planet, with no resources, no method to actual fight back.
And yet the mood around the table was forlorn. What had they had hoped would be a quick and efficient take over a primitive planet had turned into a bloodbath. The initial wave of forces sent to the planet had failed to even take down a single Super Smash Brother. And now that the Princess of the Cosmos Rosalina was aware of them, a full on onslaught on the planet itself was out of the question.
"This sucks." Representative of Blizzard Tracer from Overwatch said glumly, slumping in her seat. As every Call of Duty soldier preferred the field rather than desk work, Overwatch had been tasked with overseeing the forces from above. "Who are these guys?"
Damon Riccitello, the man who had acquired EA, shot a dark glance her way.
"The Super Smash Bros are the strongest force in all of reality." He said. "You didn't think this would be easy, did you?"
She sniffed. "I thought it would be over by now."
"It is over." Playstation representative, and leader of the Playstation All Stars Kratos rumbled. He glanced at the figure of Rosalina on the display screen with great dislike. "Once she is killed…."
"Kill?" Representative of Konami, Liquid Snake, said with a laugh. "If it were so easy, God of War, we would have done so long ago."
"Kratos is right." Representative of Square Enix, Summoner Yuna of Besaid said quietly, her head bent. Her head was covered almost entirely by a black hood. "Even a Super Smash Brother can be killed."
"But can the Hand?" The great Tiger Timber the Wizard asked. Following the defeat of the Great Wizard Wizpig on his Island during the events of Diddy Kong Racing, Timber was poised to become the protagonist of his own game. Yet following a series of unfortunate events, this never occurred. Now he served as representative of RareWare in the war against those who wronged him.
"It has never been done." Kratos said. "But it will. It must."
Timber snorted. He was so gigantic the breath of air sent the dust on his desk flying. Representative of SEGA, Mile Prower, let out a sneeze. He grimaced, adjusting the eye patch he wore to make himself look more like his best friend and hero, Shadow the Hedgehog.
"Your ignorance astounds me." Timber said. He pointed a long claw out at Rosalina. "That creature who has survived the birth and death of the universe immeasurable times. It was she who guided Samus Aran to defeat the Reapers, creatures who thought themselves the center of the Universe. Commander Shephard, if he had been left to his own devices, would never have been able to eliminate them. And yet, she is nothing but a puppet for the pair of Hands that control everything."
"You speak of Hands." Tracer said, a little skeptically. "Uh, you're sure they are real?"
Timber leaned back in his chair.
"They are the creator and destroyer of all reality." He said. "If we were to destroy all 89 members of the Super Smash Brothers… that alone would amount to nothing. The Powers of the Hand of Creation are so great, that it would be a simple matter of restoring them to life. In fact, that is what a Super Smash Brother is… a spirit that has risen above life and death, and become something more."
"We have seen." Yuna said. "How a mere 89 people have fought off millions of our forces. We have seen how even the most powerful warriors at our disposal break and buckle under even the most unfavored by the hand."
"They weren't the only ones fighting though." Tracer said. "The denizens of the planet did as well… and a number of the wedding guests."
"Regardless, it was the presence of the Super Smash Bros that held their own against our invasion." Yuna said. "Their powers far surpass those of mortal men… or even gods."
Kratos leaned forward.
"They must be exterminated." He growled.
"I agree." Yuna said quietly. "Yet Samus Aran is exploring Castlevania as we speak. It is only a matter of time until she conquers the entire Castle. Super Mario is organizing a counterattack against us. The Hero Ike is leading an army against our forces that have taken residence in the Empire of Begnion.
"Samus Aran is one of the greatest threats in reality." Timber said. "And Mario is, of course, the public face of the Super Smash Brothers… but what of this Ike? I know nothing of him."
"He is to be the husband of Samus Aran." Tracer said. "But other than that…" She trailed off, looking around the table. Yuna nodded at them.
"Ike." She said. "Was the leader of the Mercenary Band the Greil Mercenaries. He led the Princess Elincia Ridell Crimea's Army to battle to reclaim her throne, and later challenged the Goddess Ashera to free the continent."
"He defeated a goddess?" Kratos asked , a little sharply. "You are sure?"
"Very much so." Yuna said.
"Interesting." Kratos said. "Very interesting."
"Want to challenge him, Kratos?" Tracer teased, leaning over to him. "Want to see which of you is the stronger?"
"That is not necessary." Yuna said. "I have asked Lord Gwyn to lead an army against his."
"Gwyn?" Kratos repeated, this time his voice sharp. "Why him?"
"He professed a desire to prove himself." Yuna said. "To his young wife."
Kratos glowered. Tracer giggled.
"To impress a girl?" She asked. "He's a little boy at heart, that one."
"Yes, well." Yuna said. "I thought him a worthy candidate."
"Who is he leading into battle?" Liquid asked.
"Zant, the King of Twilight."
"Hmph." Timber scoffed. "He was not even a thorn in the Hero of Twilight's side."
"Gruntilda the Witch…"
Timber's discontent evaporated almost instantly. "Gruntilda does good work." He acknowledged. "The Bear and Bird won't stand a chance.
"And Nightmare." She said. "The wielder of Soul Edge. Among a handful of other fighters… Gwyn has a number of knights under his command."
"Who does Ike have under his command?" Liquid asked. "What are their odds?"
"Well…"
Yuna closed her eyes, trying to think.
"They have divided their forces by three." She said. "One third, led by Mario and Princess Peach, is remaining in their village of Smashville and working on building up their defenses. The second group, primarily made up of space faring heroes, are working on assembling a means to set up a planetary defense force to tackle our armada. Finally, Ike is leading the charge. It will be they that do battle with Gwyn."
"Of those chosen to go with Ike… The Hero King Marth, The Foreseer Lucina, The Hero of Hyrule Link, The Luminary Eleven, the Princess of Destiny Zelda, and the Witch of Light and Shadow Bayonetta will be among them."
"That is not an insignificant force." Timber commented. "Link alone could likely thwart Gwyn, just as he had Zant in a previous incarnation."
"Yes." Yuna acknowledged. "Defeating the Smash Brothers and creating more holes in their defense is our prerogative. I would even go so far as to say that those who surround them… spirits, denizens of Tellius, and the wedding guests are nothing but fodder. Our focus should be on destroy the Smash Brothers, and destroying them thoroughly. With our numbers the rest of reality will fall as well."
…
The rank and file of the great army were doing all they could to prepare for conflict. All attempts at defeating Rosalina had failed. Rogue Squadron had nothing to do, and so Luke Skywalker found himself spending a lot of quality time with his father.
"You sure you don't want anything, Dad?"
Darth Vader shook his head.
"I have eaten already, son." He said.
"It's weird that we can't even eat together." Luke said, as he set down his plate across from him. "It makes me feel like… there's this unsurpassable barrier between us."
"Hm." Vader said. "We have no choice. It seems there is no place for us other than the battlefield."
Luke smiled weakly at him. "At least we're on the same side now, right?"
A large hand thumped him on the shoulder. Luke jumped, nearly knocking his plate aside.
"We're all on the same side, now that we're fighting for the House of Mouse!" Tony Stark said.
"Yeah… I guess." Luke said. "It doesn't feel good to be fighting against friends, though."
"That's right." Stark said, looking surprised. "You know Star Fox, don't you?"
"We flew together a couple of times." Luke said, a little quietly. "I didn't know them very well, but…"
He shrugged. "I liked them, you know?" He said. "I don't like… I don't like the idea of flying against them. I'm not sure if I have the heart for it."
"Son." Darth Vader said. "Sometimes your closest friends become your enemies. When that happens, you must not hesitate. You must crush them, in order to realize your goals."
Some distance away John Marston, was playing cards with Trevor Phillips.
"Some family, huh?" John asked, as he dealt his hand. Trevor snorted.
"As long as I have some more people to kill at the end of the day, I'm happy." He said. "You cheating?"
"No." Marston said, hand inching towards his revolver. "Want me to talk to CJ? Set the record straight?" Carl Johnson, the man who owned half of the state of San Andreas, was the representative of Rockstar Games.
Trevor made a face at him and flounced in his seat. "I could kill them all." He said, his face gloomy. "And set that entire continent on fire."
"Yeah, well, you're just gonna have to wait a little longer." Marston said, yawning. "I never knew death would be so… boring."
"Still alive here, man." Trevor said, cackling. "And will be for all of time at this rate."
"I'm happy for you." Marston said. "I just want to rest in peace. Right after this one last job…."
His eyes fell on the Super Saiyans, Goku and Vegeta. They had taken a break in their endless training regimen to fuel up on food. They spoke little as they ate. Marston was sure that they would go right back to their workouts.
"Muscle bound freaks." Trevor chortled. "I'd shoot holes in them if I had a good reason."
Meanwhile, in the Hall of Justice…
Superman 64 slammed his hands into the table.
"Batman has been killed?"
"Yes." Wonder woman said, nodding. "By… Solid Snake."
"If only I had flown through more rings…" Super Man 64 said, rubbing his cheek thoughtfully. "I may have arrived in time to save him."
Wonder Woman had to restrain herself from rolling her eyes.
"But there are always more rings to fly through." Superman 64 said. "There are… too many. Even for me."
"Without Batman." Wonder Woman said. "The Injustice League can't possibly support itself…"
"I'll just have to fly through more rings." Superman said. "Excuse me."
And he was off. Wonder Woman stared after him, aghast, before turning her attention on Spider-Man, who had stopped by to weasel his way into Batman's position in their organization.
"Can you believe him?"
"It's the Hand." Spider-Man said, immediately. "It hovers over all of us… forcing us to behave in ways we never would usually."
"Most others are not nearly as badly effected as Superman." Wonder Woman said.
"That's true." Spider-man said. "I'm not sure why that is… you may ask Summoner Yuna, if you see her."
"Perhaps I will." Wonder Woman said.
…
A/N
I thought it was time to give a bit of context to who the villains are and give a general idea of what they're all about. As Super Smash Bros is a compilation of all the greatest characters 'in gaming' their enemies would naturally be figures that were unpopular in games. So obviously Superman 64 is going to result in Superman being an antagonist to the Super Smash Bros, despite not originally appearing in video games. And Superman is associated with the Arkham Games, and Injustice, and suddenly all of those games are part of the same wider universe, even though it doesn't make any sense.
I've been meaning to show off a bunch of the leaders of the Enemy for a long time. Using Timber the Tiger as an antagonist has been set in stone from the very beginning. For those who aren't aware, Diddy Kong Racing was originally meant to be his game. He was replaced by Diddy. He was originally meant to be the protagonist of Dinosaur Planet, before being replaced by Saber. So yeah, because of this he harbors a resentment towards 'The Hand' that chose this fate of obscurity for him. I meant for this to be gradually revealed throughout the story, but unfortunately there are so many characters it is very difficult to give them all satisfying character arcs and conclusions. Mist is supposed to be the protagonist, but hasn't even appeared for the past several chapters. It took Samus a very long time to suit up and take action, and Ike isn't going to get the chance to shine until next chapter. And a lot of characters in the Smash ROSTER haven't even been introduced.
So yeah, I have my work cut out for me if I want to make this story shine. Please leave a review if you're enjoying it, it means a lot.
