Chapter 83: Amalie
Contains mention of suicide. Reader discretion is advised.
(Becky's POV)
It's a dark day on New Berk, both metaphorically and physically.
Eret buries his head into my shoulder, beginning to sob.
His little sister, Amalie, committed suicide.
She was just two days away from turning 26 years old.
Eret's father, Eret, Sr., was the one who discovered that his daughter had hanged herself on a beam in her bedroom.
Ruby is just four years old, close to five.
It's a dark day for the Nordisk family.
Ruby doesn't understand why her parents are so sad, why her dad keeps crying.
She's too young to understand death, too young to understand suicide.
It's a dark day for Eret, Son Of Eret.
His little sister, born the same year as me, is dead.
At the funeral, Amalie is sent off like a warrior: with flaming arrows sent after her ship, and it reminds me of Stoick's funeral all those years ago. Loki, my biological father, attends the funeral to bring me a bit of comfort.
I do what I can to comfort my husband, my father-in-law.
But it's never enough.
It's a dark day on New Berk.
I break down on my knees, Eret and Loki both following me.
I scream.
I should've been there. I should've been able to do something. I should've been able to help her, my sister-in-law.
I should be the one dead, not her.
