XXX777: Partly because I didn't plan to keep her in the story for long and mostly because she's more impactful than a random OC.

ArcticWyvern: Honestly, most stories written by authors that don't like Hermione will more often than not keep her alive for the author to bash her, I can only think of a few stories off the top of my head where she actually dies.

HowlnMadHowie: Harry's skeleton is not permanently encased in Uru, earlier it's been pointed out that Harry has bone claws and metal claws because he can cover his bones in the metal. So when it's not covered in metal, he is vulnerable, but he would have had enough experience with mind-reading to know when somebody is reading his mind.

Chapter 23 -

"How did this happen?" Amelia Bones, head of the department of magical law enforcement asked as she sat in the headmaster's office along with Dumbledore and Minister of Magic, Cornelius Fudge.

"Well, shortly after the troll had been dealt with, we had searched the school for any injured students and then we, unfortunately, came across the body of poor Miss Granger," Dumbledore explained. "Professor McGonagall had told me that she had been a most excellent student with a bright future."

"That is unfortunate," Minister Fudge squirmed in his seat, his hands fiddling with the bowler hat that he had pulled off of his head. "have her parents been informed?" He asked.

"No," Amelia said with a sad shake of her head, a note of disapproval in her voice. "they have not."

"Well, why not" Fudge frowned.

"Miss Granger was a muggle-born," Dumbledore began and Fudge's face lit up with understanding, though Dumbledore decided to finish explaining anyway just in case. "therefore we followed the standard procedure of having Mr and Mrs Granger's memories modified. They will no longer remember that they ever had a daughter."

"Hmm, good," Fudge said dismissively, as long as there were fewer problems for him, he was fine with it. "now, how did this happen?" He asked, deciding to bring them back on track. "Hogwarts is supposed to be the safest place on Earth."

"Indeed, it is, Minister." Dumbledore calmly nodded. "I doubt that there are any forces that can penetrate its defences from the outside, though...it is possible from the inside."

"Inside?" Amelia repeated. "What are you talking about?"

"You are both aware of Voldemort's reappearance earlier this year?" Dumbledore asked, Amelia, flinched slightly at the mention of Voldemort's name while Fudge jumped in his seat like he had been bitten.

"What about it?" Fudge asked, his mood growing worse. He knew that his career was going to take a massive turn now given that you-know-who was back, he was a peacetime leader, not a war hero. He knew it was incredibly likely that he could get voted out of office, truthfully he wasn't entirely sure if he wanted to stay in his office while you-know-who was running back, the last thing he wanted was to be targeted by the dark lord.

"You think that the dark lord was responsible for this?" Amelia guessed.

"It is possible," Dumbledore replied. "however I believe it's also possible that somebody else is responsible."

"Who?" Fudge asked in a confused voice. "Hold on just a second, you cannot possibly mean the muggle-born girl? The one that was killed?"

"That is another possibility," Dumbledore gave Fudge a short nod. "for all we know, she could have been messing around in things she should not have messed around with."

"But you don't think that, do you?" Amelia asked, giving him a penetrating look.

"I do not," Dumbledore confirmed with a small shake of his head. "I do believe that there was another party responsible. And I am growing more and more concerned each day, as I believe that this party is also trying to get Mr Potter to turn his back on the wizarding world."

"What?!" Fudge blurted out while Amelia stared at him with shock.

"Headmaster, who on Earth could you possibly be talking about?" Amelia stared at him, gaping slightly.

"Tell me," Dumbledore spoke in a soft voice. "what do you know about mutants?" He asked, resisting the urge to smile.

"Mutants?" Fudge asked.

"I have heard a bit about them from my niece," Amelia admitted.

"Ah yes, I was right in believing that young Susan had told you about them." Dumbledore hummed, knowing that Amelia's niece, Susan Bones, was in the same year as Harry.

"Yes, she told me about them and I had then gone to do my own research in them, Amelia continued. "I believe that I have a sufficient amount of knowledge regarding them. If you are referring to the ones in your school, then she has told me about them as well. She's told me that, despite their extra powers, they don't really go out of their way to cause harm and trouble to anyone unless provoked."

"Hmm, perhaps that's true, but appearances are not always what they appear to be," Dumbledore responded. "for example, Voldemort himself had done his best to seem like a charming young man when he first started recruiting." Amelia and Fudge predictably flinched at that, Dumbledore was almost tempted to smile in amusement but managed to stop himself.

For too long, he felt like he had lost control of Harry Potter, that was unacceptable. He needed to be the one to guide Potter and show him the correct path to fighting Voldemort, the problem is that Dumbledore's authority over the boy was non-existent when he was at school and even at school, it was limited. Dumbledore knew that the first meeting between himself and the young boy had gone horribly bad, in hindsight it had been a very bad idea to bring Severus along.

But still, Dumbledore needed more control over the boy and he clearly wasn't going to get it while the mutants were influencing young Harry. Dumbledore knew that the move he was about to make was risky, but if he played it right then it was entirely possible that he could get Harry away from the mutants. It could be difficult given that Harry was also a mutant, but Dumbledore was sure that if he was careful enough then he could make it work.

"I'm glad we're finally going home." Laura let out a pleased sigh as she leaned back against her seat on the Hogwarts express, she hugged her cat to her body as she relaxed and stared out of the window.

Next to Laura, Emma was reading through a book on magical beauty charms, "not that I need them." she would say when asked about it. Opposite Laura was Jean who was reading a book on charms, though she was also resting her back against the wall next to her and had her feet resting on Harry's lap. Not that Harry minded too much, he was mostly focused on Hedwig who was comfortably perched on his shoulder.

"Same," Jean agreed as she turned a page on her book. "this year has been hectic."

"We went to school with Harry," Emma lazily pointed out. "of course, it was going to be wild."

"You act like everything that happened was my fault." Harry pointed out.

"I'm sorry, who was the one who attacked a troll?" Emma looked up from her book to stare at Harry.

"Not a clue, I don't know about anyone attacking a troll. All I know is that there was this boy who defended himself against a troll, A.K.A: me." Harry's words were met with a hoot of agreement from Hedwig. "Yeah, thanks, Hedwig. It's nice to have somebody believe me."

"Hedwig wasn't even there." Jean absently pointed out.

"It's a shame about what happened to that Granger girl, though," Laura spoke up, the whole school had heard about the fact that the muggle-born girl had been killed during the time of the troll attack. Many assumed that it was the troll that had gotten her, but there was no confirmation to prove that that was true. The girl apparently hadn't made any friends at the time so people weren't as sad as they could have been, but it did still horrify a great many people that a student could be killed in Hogwarts, which was arguably the safest place on Earth.

"Did we know her?" Harry asked.

"Nah, but we did meet her a few times," Laura replied. "she was a bit book obsessed, but otherwise she was fine."

"Hmm, still, did they ever find out how the troll got in?"

"If they did then they haven't told anybody," Emma sighed.

"Hmm," Professor Xavier nodded as Laura and Jean finished telling him about what had happened at school. After arriving at the train station, the X-Men had picked up the twins and Jean while also dropping off Emma at her place. Right now they were all sitting in Professor Xavier's office with the exception of Harry who had taken their stuff to their room, also in the room was Logan and Ororo. "this is concerning."

"Indeed, a troll entering into what we were told is a safe place," Ororo frowned.

"Hmm, so Harry, he killed the troll?" Logan asked with a smile on his face and a hint of pride in his voice.

"Logan!" Ororo sighed.

"What?!"

"Anyway," Professor Xavier continued. "thank you both for telling me about this, we shall think about this and I shall contact Mr Strange and get his opinion on this."

"Doctor Strange." Laura and Jean corrected him.

"Doctor Strange," Professor Xavier amended with a smile. "anyway, I should let you both know that we do have a few new members in our household and..."

"Aaaaaarghhh!" A terrified voice screamed.

"...and I believe that Harry has just met one of them." Professor Xavier let out a deep sigh.

Almost a minute later the group found Harry, he was running through the halls with his claws out, chasing what appeared to be a blue elf. This new person was covered in blue fur, even the hair on the top of his head was blue. He had orange eyes, three big fingers on each hand and three toes on his feet and a tail with an arrow-head tip. He looked to be about Harry's age and he was currently running away from Harry on all fours.

"Help! Help!" The blue mutant cried as Harry got closer. Once they got into the entrance hall, Harry leapt at him but thankfully for the new arrival he was able to avoid the attack by vanishing in a puff of smoke. Harry growled and started sniffing around before his gaze suddenly snapped upwards and he saw the new arrival perched on the chandelier above him. Harry snarled before leaping up, only to be caught by the back of his collar by Logan. Harry twisted around and glared at him.

"What?" Harry asked in an annoyed voice as if Logan had simply interrupted him while he was playing a video game.

"What are you doing?" Logan sighed as he held Harry in the air with one hand.

"Hunting," Harry grunted.

"I can see that, but why?" Logan rolled his eyes.

"Because he's an intruder," Harry said in a voice that made it clear that he thought that Logan should have realised that by now.

"Mr Potter," Professor Xavier wheeled forward and stopped in front of him along with the rest of the group. "he is not an intruder. Kurt, can you come down, please?" He asked kindly to the blue mutant.

"If I come down, will he attack me?" The blue mutant, Kurt, asked in a German accent as he stared nervously at Harry.

"No," Ororo stated in a firm voice before she stared at Harry with narrowed eyes. "will you attack him, Harry?"

"Most likely," Harry answered honestly. Ororo closed her eyes and massaged her head, she opened them and looked up, as if she was praying for someone to give her strength. After several seconds of this, she looked down at Harry and stared at him for several moments before speaking again.

"Harry, you will not attack Kurt."

"Don't worry, we'll make sure he behaves," Laura spoke up.

"Thank you, Laura," Ororo patted Laura on the head, earning a bright smile from the girl.

"Alright, when your feet go down I want your claws to go in," Logan told Harry before he placed him back down on the floor, Harry rolled his eyes but did put his claws away.

"Alright, you can come down now, Kurt," Professor Xavier said to the blue mutant, Kurt seemed hesitant but after a few moments of thinking he did teleport back down, landing next to Professor Xavier. "everyone, allow me to introduce to you, Kurt Wagner."

"Um...hi." Kurt shyly waved a hand.

"Nice to meet you," Laura said.

"Sorry about Harry," Jean apologised as she gave Kurt a little wave. "he's just violent against everyone he doesn't know."

"And those he does," Logan mumbled.

"Now, why did you try to attack Kurt?" Ororo asked Harry.

"I was putting our stuff away when he suddenly popped right in front of me, I thought I was being attacked!" Harry defended, throwing his arms into the air in an exasperated manner.

"Kurt," Professor Xavier turned to Kurt. "I thought I had told you to not teleport into other people's rooms."

"Yeah, well...I don't think it will ever happen again." Kurt shivered.

"I think an apology is in order," Ororo said. "Kurt, you should say sorry for teleporting into Harry's room, and Harry..."

"Let me guess, I have to say sorry for chasing him down the school?" Harry guessed.

"And for being a massive git," Jean added helpfully.

"I don't know what that means," Kurt frowned.

"Just a word we picked up in England." Jean shrugged.

"Anyway, sorry for chasing you and the attempted maiming." Harry apologized as he held his hand out.

"Maiming?" Jean asked.

"Yeah, maiming, I don't try and kill everyone," Harry said defensively.

"O...kay." Kurt hesitantly reached out and shook Harry's hand. "And I'm sorry for teleporting into your room, I promise you that it won't ever happen again. Ever."

A.N: Hi guys, hope you liked the chapter.

I know a lot of people are upset about the update speed for this story but there are two main reasons for this. Firstly because this story is not my main focus, but also because I have been quite busy. For those that don't know, I will be getting married next month and I am honestly so busy. I have a wedding to get ready for, I have to plan my wife's murder, I have to frame Guilder for it, I'm swamped...wait...no, that was Princess Bride, sorry.

Anyway, I am sorry about the upload speed. It won't get better for a while since right now I plan to spend the next couple of days updating for as many stories as I can before I go off of fanfiction for about a month. Then I'll be back in April and it'll be business as usual and I will actually try and increase the speed of uploads, okay.

Thanks for reading, feel free to leave a review.
