Disclaimer: The fact that I don't own Harry Potter doesn't mean I don't wish I did…
A day hadn't passed in which she hadn't thought about him, not a night when she hadn't dreamt of him. It was as if his face was all she could see. It had been so long, so long since she had gazed into those fathomless depths that were his eyes.
And now, time had come to a standstill. He was there, so near that she could reach out and touch him. It felt unreal. But she didn't, for she was afraid that if she did, he would disappear, and she would be left alone, so alone.
She shifted, and as if sensing her subtle movement, he whirled around to her and she was faced with a sight that brought with it a whirlwind of emotions she was incapable of dealing with. He left her breathless. For a while, they just stared at each other, drinking in the sight before them.
Tentatively, her hand reached out, caressing his face with feather-light touches, brushing past his lips. But when he didn't respond, it seemed as if she could take no more. Her legs gave away and she sank to the floor, staying that way with her head cradled in her hands, too afraid to face him. She'd lost hope that they could ever be, that he could ever be hers. And at that, her heart had shattered into a million pieces, which she knew she would be left alone to pick up.
Without warning, two hands grasped her by the shoulders. She looked up to see his hauntingly beautiful face, angular and aristocratic, those mercurial eyes, which shone with an emotion she had never before seen in them. And her heart, which she had thought broken, beat furiously inside her breast.
Here was the man who always managed to pique her ire, to wrench out emotion, even when she tried so hard not to show she cared. She was helpless when it came to him, he was one who could undo her, all with one glance. An enigma, all within himself.
He brought his finger to lift her chin so that she faced him. When she comprehended what it was that she saw in his eyes, her breath caught in her throat.
His arms reached out to pull her in an embrace, but it wasn't close enough. They stayed like that, with their foreheads resting against each other, feeling how their bodies melded together as if they were meant to. It seemed perfect. Tears streamed down her face and he wiped them away with his thumb, not realizing that his eyes had become moist. He soothed her, reassuring her that it would be alright, vowing that he would never let her go.
He had gone without her too long, and he cared for her too much.
He lowered his mouth to her, catching her lips in a passionate kiss that spoke so much of his desire, his need, his desperation. The time they had spent apart had left a hollow longing in their hearts, which was finally sated, the pain finally dulled.
He pulled away so that could see her face. "Miss me so much, eh?" he enquired with his eyebrow raised, a smirk playing about on his lips. She lowered her eyes, blushing, and buried her face in the crook of his shoulder, breathing in his scent, glowing with contentment in the arms of her husband, knowing that this would last forever.
