Chapter 46

My first days after the volcano's eruption was spent in and out of sleep. Every time I woke up the same woman from before was there offering me water or small bites of food. I wish I could say that in that time I was planning or doing something more godly to find Percy but in actuality I was barely able to remember who I was before I slipped back into unconsciousness.

After who knows how long I finally woke up and did not feel an immediate need to fall back asleep. For the first time since my arrival I took in my surroundings. I wasn't in a traditional home, as far as I could tell it looked like someone had furnished a rather large cave with modern comforts. Grunting I forced myself to sit up wincing as my back pop repeatedly. "That can't be good." I weased.

"You shouldn't try sitting up just yet." a soft voice said, it was the girl from before. She was wearing an elegant green chiton that matched her eyes wonderfully. "Your wounds haven't healed all the way and your godly energy is depleted."

"Who are you again?" I asked trying to stand up. I got maybe three inches off the cot before the nausea hit and I practically collapsed back onto it.

"What did I just tell you!" She snapped rushing over to me, within seconds I felt warmth wash over me and my nausea vanished. "And my name is Calypso by the way, you."

"Not important." I said attempting to sit back up.

"That's what you nephew calls you? Not important?" She asked with no small amount of sass.

"No he calls me uncle P." I replied finally managing to sit up again. "And how did you know I had a nephew?"

"You were asking for him when you first woke up." She said calmly.

"Is he here?" I asked hopefully.

"Sorry but no you were alone when you landed on my island." She sighed "I checked after you mentioned him just in case."

"Thank you." I said. "I know I'm asking a lot but I need to how long I've been here?"

Her expression softened somewhat and I got the feeling that keeping a temper was more of a learned thing rather than a natural part of her personality "It's been a week from my perspective but that doesn't really transfer to the outside. For all I know a year could have passed. Or it might have been only a day."

I sagged a bit where I sat "I see, how long do you think till I would be well enough to leave."

"You must really miss him." Calypso said with a tired yet sad tone.

"He was my responsibility and if he's severely hurt or worse, I'm not sure how I'd face his parents." I explained.

She seemed to consider this for a moment before looking up "Hold on a moment." Calypso rushed out the room a ran farther into the cave. A few moments later she reappear with a cloth bag in her arms "My mother gave me this just before the end of the titan war and I was able to smuggle it here with a lot of effort and luck."

She pulled an object out of the bag and I had to gasp. In her hands was a smooth milky white stone about twice the size of a baseball "Is that a seeing stone?" I asked. I'd be surprised if it was since the objects were just so rare some gods would practically sell their own children to have one. According to the books in Astraeus' palace, my former prison, there was only a few dozen in existence.

"It's one of the weaker ones yes." Calypso said almost shyly.

"You shouldn't be showing me this." I warned her completely dumbstruck and a little touched "Don't you realize the danger simply having one puts you in?"

"Yes I'm aware and I know the risks. You said you needed a way to see if your nephew is alright and this will allow you to do that. Besides, my mother was able to enchant it so that only her and myself could even touch the seeing stone. On top of that the moment this leaves your line of sight you'll forget exactly what this was, sort of like how this mist effects mortals."

I didn't believe her so I turned away and tried to focus on what I remembered. The image was fussy but it was there, a small object with sentimental value from her mother. The object was white in color like...like a image cleared and suddenly I could see it perfectly it was a pearl necklace! I remembered it! It was beautiful yes but nothing of real note to a god.

I looked back only to have that pristine clear image shattered the moment I laid eyes on the seeing stone. How could I have thought this was some piece of jewelry. Calypso seemed to find my expression amusing and I could help but ask why.

"I'm not sure really." She replied smiling. "Out of the hundreds of heroes that have landed on my Island I've only shown this to maybe six including you and each and every time they look away and grin like they've beaten it. Then they look so surprised when the enchantment actually works."

I had to laugh slightly as well "I guess no one wants to believe they could forget so easily."

"Maybe." Calypso said holding up the seeing stone. "You ready?"

"Sure." I said "What do you need from me to find him, do I just describe him to you?"

Calypso shook her head "Like I said before this is one of the weaker seeing stones and as such it has a number of limitations. The first thing is that it can only look for people not objects. For example if you wanted to find the master bolt you could search for Zeus and hope he was holding it. Second it can only show you people, locations, and objects that you've already seen. And because of those rules I can't look for your nephew as I've never seen him but you can."

The young titaness moved the stone so it was about level with my chest "Place your hands on either side and focus on your Nephew."

I did as she said and at first nothing happened then slowly the milky white surface began to ripple and inside Percy's form began to take shape. He was laying down or I assumed he was because nothing else appeared in the stone, all I could tell was that he seemed to be floating on his back. His head turned to the side as if someone was speaking to him and nodded. His head then lifted up and his mouth opened like he was taking a drink of something. "Do you see him?" Calypso asked.

"Yes, thank you." I replied lowering my hands, the image fading as I did so. "He's alive and seems to be cared for."

"That's great!" She said with no small amount of sincerity "Now you need to rest as well." she added gently laying me back on the bed. I was so exhausted from our little exchange I couldn't even fight her on it.
