Chapter 48
Porus POV
A week had passed since I arrived on Calypso's island and I can honestly say this has been one of the happiest weeks I've had in years. I was fully healed and I needed to leave yet I found myself hesitant to do so.
Calypso was so amazing in so many ways. She was strong willed and brave yet at the same time she was compassionate and gentle. When it came down to it I didn't want to leave her. I wanted her to come with me and share in my adventures
And I was going to enrage the whole of Olympus if I had to.
I checked the cave and she wasn't there so I went down to the beach where I found her sitting in the sand. "Time for you to go?" She asked sullenly as I approached her, her eyes never leaving the water.
"Yes." I said taking a seat next to her.
"Do you have to?" she asked looking at me "You could stay here with me on the island?"
"If only that was an option." I sighed "Sadly I have too much that needs to be done. Things that I can't do here."
Calypso nodded "That's how it always is, the fates send me great men who have to leave me."
"That may be true but this time I think they had a different plan." I said causing her to give me a curious look. "Now that I'm up to full strength it would be relatively easy for me to simply take you with me. If you wanted me to that is."
To say she was stunned would have been an understatement. "But what about the other Olympians? I mean there's no way they would have agreed to this."
"Maybe not with the way things are now but times are changing and seeing as the big three are my older brothers-" If only by marriage "-I'm certain I can justify freeing one peaceful titan. Besides it'll probably be decades before they even notice your gone." I said with a grin.
A smile crossed her face and she stood up "Give me five minutes and I'll be ready to go."
Percy POV
One month. It felt like an eternity but now that I was healed I was ready to take another run at those sea monsters. Last time I was exhausted, injured, unaware of what I was up against. Now I was getting off this Island one way or another.
Diving into the sea I swam out to sea following the sea floor until it dropped away leaving a giant cliff. There I waited, last time I tried to run the gauntlet the creature caught up to me in a heartbeat. This time I was going to wait for them to come to me. Last time I was up against a two headed crocodile and some kind of serpent with two arms and no legs, both of them were the size of bus.
Leto mention that the other creatures were just as large so I was going to make them fight me in the shallows where their bodies would be more of a hindrance to them. I didn't have to wait very long as the croc from before returned in only a few minutes and thankfully he was alone.
I backed up a bit and watched the beast crawl up onto the sandy shelf. Immediately it started growling in frustration as it's belly was dragged across the sea floor while it's back poked out of the water. I swam around it's side and stabbed at the soft belly near the sea floor. Just like I planned the Crocodile couldn't really turn to face me. A leg came too close so I slashed it and moved in the direction it was turning. When it stopped I slashed or stabbed at it then rotated with it. It felt like a video game really, a very very bloody video game.
The creature kept growling and even rolled to get away from me only to get trapped on its back. Naturally I took the opportunity to slice it open from head to tail. The creature roared in pain and managed to roll back onto its belly. Blood poured into the water and I found myself swimming back just so it didn't touch me. Call me crazy but I didn't really like the thought of swimming in blood.
The twin heads of the Crocodile fixed their eyes on me in rage but before either of us could move new cries filled the air. I looked out to sea where they were coming from and paled. Over a dozen more creatures were coming, probably drawn in by all the blood, and I realized I was about to be in the middle of a feeding frenzy. Without even thinking I shot off back to shore. I glanced back in time to some squid like creature drag the Crocodile off the sea shelf before the others attacked it.
Back on the shore I watch as the sea churned and seemingly boiled as the croc was devoured. "How am I going to get out of this?" I asked despite the fact that no one was around. I could take them on one by one but it would probably take me close to a year to kill them all.
I flopped on my back and stared up at the sky. It was a nice shade of blue that reminded me of Furok, I hoped he was doing ok with Artemis.
Suddenly I shot up straight "I AM AN IDIOT!" I shouted to the sky. Reaching out with my mind I called out for my sacred animal and waited. All this time I could have left when ever I wanted but I was too focused on trying to get through the sea I forgot I had other options.
Within minutes the sound of wings flapping filled the air and Furok became visible on the horizon.
