It was a cloudy day but that didn't stop Edward "Teddy" Lupin from going outside. He smiled to himself when he opened the door. A warm breeze hit his face as he walked outside. He waved to his grandmother, whom he found in the garden. "Hello, Gran!" Teddy called, changing his hair to his normal color. She waved back with a small smile. The ten-year-old however didn't see happiness in her eyes.
"Hello, Ted can you help me plant these before it starts to rain?" she asked. Teddy giggled and walked over to his grandmother and sat down. He picked up a flower and handed it to his grandmother. "Thank you, Ted," she said as she put it on the ground. Teddy heard joy in her voice, but he didn't know why.
"Gran? Are you okay," Teddy asked looking at the ground. He giggled a little when he felt water hit his hand.
"Yes, Ted, I have something to tell you though," she said, putting the flower into the ground. Teddy looked up when he felt more rain. However, he knew that his grandmother didn't care. He didn't care either.
"What is it?" Teddy asked, standing up and running around in the soft rain that just started to pick up. She didn't answer him right away as she continued to plant the flowers. Teddy turned around and stopped running around in the rain when she didn't answer. "Gran?" Teddy asked again. He heard her sigh and stood up facing him.
"I have weird but good news," she said looking at the house. Teddy followed her eyes and gasped when he saw his father Remus Lupin in the doorway. "I don't know nor understand how he is back but he's here now. Do you want to say hello?" Teddy stared at his grandmother before he fell backward. Thankfully, Remus ran over to his son and caught him in his arms.
"I didn't expect that," Remus muttered, holding his son on the porch while Andromeda, sat on the porch swing watching father and son.
"I did. How are you even back?" she asked. "I never asked," Remus sighed and wrung his hand through his son's hair.
"I don't know. The last thing I remember was talking with Harry before Voldemort was destroyed. Why am I back and not Sirius? Or even James or Lily? Why me?" Remus asked, looking at his son whose hair was still his natural color. Andromeda shook her head.
"Because Teddy wanted you? I heard him last night on the full moon. He can't sleep it seems on the full moon. He was talking to it asking if you could hear him. I told him that you are the muggle story the man on the moon," Andromeda said, making Remus smile.
"Well, that's the sweetest thing ever. Magic," Remus said looking at the garden. "I think when he wakes, we should finish planting those," Remus said looking at Teddy whose eyes fluttered open.
"Daddy? How, how are you here?" Teddy asked, looking up at his father who smiled at him.
"It doesn't matter, cub. I'm here," Remus said standing up. Teddy did the same thing. Teddy then hugged his father. Tears streamed down his face.
"Daddy!" Teddy cried hugging his father. He shook in his father's arms. The werewolf couldn't help but cry as well. Knowing that he was still alone but at least he has his son with him. "Can I play in the rain?" Teddy asked, pulling out of his father's arms. Remus smiled and wiped away the tears from his eyes. Remus nodded and laughed when he saw Teddy run off the porch and into the rain. He watched Teddy open his mouth and drank the rainwater.
A few minutes later Remus and Andromeda were planting the rest of the flowers while Teddy giggled in the rain. "Ted, come and help us please," Remus said sharing a look with Andromeda had the same question on her lips. Remus laughed a little. They had to get used to this it seems. Teddy nodded and ran over to his grandmother and father tripping on the wet ground and landing in the mud that formed. However instead of crying. He started to giggle and slapped the mug under his hand.
"Oh no," Remus muttered. He hated mud but Moony loved it. So, he tried not to join with his son who ran over to them covered in mud. He sat down and handed his grandmother a flower plot.
"Here you go gran," Teddy said, handing her the flowerpot. She looked at his muddy hands and rolled her eyes.
"Thank you, Ted," she said, putting the flower into the ground. Teddy stood up again and giggled as rain hit his head. Remus smiled at his son as he patted the ground around the flower. "Dora would love this," Remus smiled at her.
"Yes, she would. I see her. You were telling me about Ted before I met him before and he's just like her," Remus said, watching Teddy run around in the rain and laughing. Remus laughed with him. "I just wish that I wasn't alone," Remus said sadly. Andromeda shook her head.
"You are not alone, Remus. Neither is Teddy. You have each other and me as well. Harry's still around. You may not have the people that first loved you, but you have the new people that love you as well," she said, picking up another flower and putting it on the ground. Andromeda smiled at Remus.
"Why don't you go hang out with him?" Andromeda asked. "You know you want to," she added, looking at the garden that was coming together. The yellow flowers shined brightly with the rain hitting them. Remus nodded and stood up. Teddy giggled as he ran over to his father and grabbed his hand.
"Come on, Dad. I want to show you something," Teddy said happily. Remus smiled down on his son and ruffled his hair.
"Alright lead the way, cub," Remus said, walking with his son to the backyard.
Remus smiled when he and Teddy walked into the backyard. Right in front of them stood a statue of him and Tonks. "Gran had someone make this for us. I sometimes talk with it," Teddy said sitting down. Remus sat down next to him not caring if he got his pants covered in wet grass.
"I think it's wonderful, Ted," Remus said, rubbing his hand through Teddy's hair. Teddy giggled as he found more mud. "Oh no, no more of that young man. As much as I live to go and make Moony happy. I think you need a bath," Remus said, standing up. He brushed his hands over his pants and held out his hand. Teddy giggled and took his father's hand, soon they were in the house and Remus knew that they would be fine now. It would take some time to get used to, but they would be okay.
