A/N: AU: James and Sirius find out about Remus but it's earlier. Peter does not exist in this story.
He was sweating but it was not from the blazing heat outside. No, it was because of the fact that he was going to hang out with his friends outside of Hogwarts for the first time since he met them. Normally, this wouldn't be nerve-racking, but Remus Lupin was a werewolf, and his new friends didn't know about his little fury problem. Remus stood by the open door, the hot air blew in his face, and he looked down at his long sleeves, smiling. 'They'll never know,' he thought as he waited for his mother to get to the door.
"Remus, are you sure you want to do this?" his mother asked, "Why are you wearing a long sleeve? It's very hot outside." She was holding his bag that had his swimsuit. Remus looked up at her with his nervous green-amber eyes. He nodded but didn't offer any explanation for his choice of clothes. He gave her a small smile as they walked out of the door.
Remus could hear the cheering of muggle children when they walked through the gate to the muggle pool. The werewolf scanned the pool for James and Sirius and smiled nervously when he saw them. "Do you see your friends, dear?" his mother asked, wiping her brow, and then running her hand through her hair. Remus nodded and waved at them. They waved back and quickly got out of the pool.
"Ok, dear. Don't be nervous. They won't notice, okay?" Remus nodded as she handed him his bag and he wiped his forehead again.
"Remus!" He smiled at Sirius's voice. He then felt Sirius hugging him tightly. Remus laughed and pushed him off and he turned around with a smile for his friend.
"Hey Remus," James said, trying to wrestle Sirius who had a muggle pool toy in his hands.
"Hey guys," Remus greeted, moving the collar of his shirt.
"Why are you wearing that?" Sirius asked. "It's like super-hot outside." He rubbed his hand over his forehead. Remus sighed and looked behind him to see that his mother was gone.
"Um," Remus said nervously before he let out a shaky breath. His brain wasn't working as he looked at his friends who were trying to push each other into the pool. Remus laughed as he felt his legs melting in the heat as well as his arms. He didn't want them to see his scars, but the pool looked so inviting. Remus shook his head and ran to a tent by the pool, leaving his friends behind. He could hear Sirius and James call after him than a splash in the pool.
Sirius raised an eyebrow when he saw Remus away from the pool and into a tent closing it behind him. "James?" Sirius called, splashing James with water. James turned around from talking to a girl and nodded.
"Yeah?" James asked, looking at the tent that Remus was in. "Ah, I'm going to see if Remus is ready," James said, missing the worry in Sirius's eyes. Sirius rolled his eyes and went back to playing in the water. Once James got to the tent he sighed. "Remus are you ready cause I know you must be burning in that shirt," James asked. A few seconds later he heard a whimper.
"Go away, please, I don't want you to see me shirtless," Remus said with a whimper. James sighed again and ran his hand through his hair.
"Why? Remus, are you okay?" James asked, looking behind him when he saw Sirius walk up towards them.
A few minutes later, the tent opened, and Remus stepped out. He was wearing his swimsuit. Scars lined his body. Some were new, some at least six years old. He looked down and shook his head. "Go on, say it," Remus said quickly. Sirius shared a look with James and laughed a little.
"Do you think we are stupid Remus? We knew the moment we saw you on the train. Scaring like that does not go unnoticed. Now, are you going to stand there and sweat in this heat or are you coming with us to the pool?" Sirius asked, pushing back James who stopped laughing and pushing Sirius. Remus looked up nervously. His eyes were shocked. How could they be friends with a monster? Remus shook his head and looked down again. They are joking. Soon they will laugh at him or push him into the pool. However, they didn't. They just stood there watching him.
"You don't care that I'm a monster?" Remus asked, rocking on his feet, and rubbing the back of his neck. It felt sticky from the sweat from his nerves and the heat. Sirius and James rolled their eyes.
"You are not a monster. Now come on," James said, running to the pool only to be stopped by a whistle.
"Hey, no running," the lifeguard called out to James who laughed and pushed Sirius who was near the pool. Sirius fell in, making Remus laugh and follow James into the pool.
"Oh, you are going to get it, Potter," Sirius called, splashing James. Remus laughed and joined in. Soon, all three friends were having a splash-off, caring about the muggles around them. Remus felt like he could finally be himself around James and Sirius now.
A/N: Remus is invited to hang on a very hot day at the pool by James and Sirius, but he is scared they will find out he is a werewolf by seeing his scars.
