A/N: I change the job of James's father in this story and Remus's parents die.
His body was screaming at him to wake up, but he liked to lay there in the basement of his house. His brain wasn't working, and he couldn't feel his legs. Remus John Lupin opened his tired eyes and looked around. The room was covered in scratch marks. Some of them were new, some old. The thirteen-year-old let out a shaky breath. He wished that he was at Hogwarts. His friends understand him more than his own parents. The young werewolf sighed and tried to stand but his aching limbs, "Mum? Father?" Remus asked, looking at the door to the basement. "Hello?" Remus called again but he didn't hear anything. "Mum?" Remus asked, putting his hand on the wall, and standing up wincing a little. 'You can do this Lupin.' He thought as he slowly walked to the door to the basement. However, he knew that he needed to get up the stairs and that wasn't going to be fun.
Remus took a deep breath once he got to the stairs. He could hear talking but his brain was buzzing so it was hard to hear. Remus let out a shaky breath and put his ear to the door. "Sir, there's a muggle in here. Werewolf got her sir, as well as her husband who was right by the basement door," Remus shook his head.
'They can't be.' Remus thought as he swayed a little. 'Did he come back?' Remus thought slowly knocking on the door, but it hurt his hand. Remus didn't care though it was the only way to get the people's attention. For he had lost his voice at this point. Remus groaned as he knocked again a lot harder now. Remus didn't stop until he fell to the ground and groaned again.
After a few minutes, the door opened, shining the bright light of someone's wand in his face. "Oh Merlin, it's a kid," Remus opened his eyes and groaned.
"Kid? Kid, can you hear me?" Remus nodded slowly and winced at his arm. "What's your name?" the man asked, moving his wand away from Remus. Remus didn't know what to do. He could not speak, and these people might shame him for being a werewolf. Remus looked at the man and pointed to his throat. The man nodded. "Ok, um, how old are you? Here," he handed Remus some paper and a pen. Remus took it and looked to the man who looked behind him. "We need to get him to a healer," he said while Remus wrote. He let out a breath and handed him the paper.
"My name is Remus Lupin. I'm thirteen." The man nodded and looked at Remus with a small smile.
"Ok, can you stand?" he asked, holding out his hand for Remus. Remus looked up and him and smiled. He then nodded but the man saw some pain coming out of the boy's eyes. Remus took the man's hand and stood up. However, he winced a little at his leg, but he smiled anyway. "Right, um let's get going then," he said, leading Remus to the door.
The young werewolf was confused as he was brought into St. Mungo's. He's only been here once and that was eight years ago when he was… "This boy was found in the basement after a werewolf attacked his home," the man said, cutting Remus out of his thoughts. The lady at the desk looked at Remus. Remus hid his gaze from the lady. Remus knew that she knew.
"Alright," she said with a cheerful tone that Remus knew was fake. "I'll get someone right away. Why don't you both sit down and wait alright," she added, giving Remus a side-eye. Remus closed his eyes and swayed on his feet again. Remus wanted to sleep but he knew that that was not an option. Cause he knew that they would want to ask questions. The young werewolf just needed to be strong and... he winced at his leg.
A few moments later he and this man that he doesn't know were sitting down next to him. While they waited for a healer to check Remus out. Remus wondered why didn't ask for his number. Even though he hated that. He hated having it. He's glad that only healers can see it. His eyes closed as he heard the werewolf howl in his head. Remus let out a groan when he looked at the man sitting next to him. Why didn't he leave? He's still there and yet...Remus rubbed his eyes and moved a little.
"Are you ok?" Remus looked up at the kind man and nodded slowly. "Are you sure cause you look like you are going to…"
"Remus Lupin?" Remus looked up and sighed. He stood up slowly, but he had to grab the chair. Thankfully that man was there.
"I'm here to help him. He can't seem to stand on his own," the man said, holding onto Remus's arms. Remus squirmed under his arm, but he allowed him to hold on to him as they walked slowly behind the healer.
"Mr. Potter, how is your son doing?" the healer asked, looking at Remus who looked at his feet.
"Well, he hasn't gotten himself hurt again so that's a good thing. He made friends at Hogwarts which I'm glad of. Although he seems pretty protective over two of them. I see his letters," Remus toned out the rest as they walked into the room.
"Let's see here," The healer said, pulling out his wand. He shined it in Remus's face. Remus squirmed on the bed that he was sitting on. After a few minutes, the healer let out a sigh. "This boy is a werewolf," Was all the healer said. Remus wanted to run but he couldn't move at the moment.
"Was he turned last night?" Mr. Potter asked. The healer shook his head.
"No, no, he was turned into one a long time ago. I say juggling by the bite scar about eight years," Mr. Potter nodded at his words. "His parents?" the healer asked. Mr. Potter shook his head.
"They were killed a few hours ago. A werewolf attacked the house,"
"D…Did... I…" Remus cut off with a cough. He looked to Mr. Potter who had fear in his hazel eyes. Mr. Potter then stood up and shook his head.
"No, the door was locked and still in tack. You didn't kill them," Mr. Potter said looking at the healer who sighed.
"I'll go floo someone to take him into care then once he's healed," The healer said about to leave the room. Mr. Potter looked at Remus for a few seconds before he smiled.
"I'll take him home with me. Until he's healed and then we can see what happens after," Mr. Potter said with a warm smile. Remus shuffled on the bed. He wanted to say that he didn't need to and who would want a monster, but his voice was gone again. The healer smiled and left the room for Remus's medicine
Remus could not believe what was happening. He was in a new home and the home of James, his best friend, well one of them. Why didn't he figure out that he was found by James's father when they were in the hospital? Remus sighed as he laid his head on the bed that he was sleeping in. A small smile formed on his face. It was a relief to finally close his eyes.
