Chaos in a Broken Cycle

Zaylo267- Thank you, I wish there was more lore to go off of though, both because I just want more stories from this universe, and because it would make expanding the story easier, you know before every fanfiction idea for this fandom gets ret-conned.

The Mandalorian- I did legitimately think about making Thin Man stay, but I usually have to have a reason, a logical one mind you, for them to stay. Like how could I make Thin Man stay when technically everything affected by the loop should be disappearing. If I could have thought of a way how, he probably would have stayed. There is an idea I entertained but that's for later down the line.

Adilbek-I'm glad you caught that, I promise there will be another in the next chapter.

Fire-Yes, I read them all. Perhaps one of them will show up in the future.

Yukalight-You my friend, are a genius. I should really work on pacing myself.

To the 2 guests- Here you go

Airdrink27-The chapter was already done when I saw your review come in, I just needed to put some notes in the bottom. Glad you like it!

Before I Forget again let me clarify some things that I should have done last chapter. Mono's last name is Mitsukeru in this story. And for body proportion's sake let's just assume that children free within the range of the Signal Tower will begin growing like regular children instead of being stuck as small munchkins. Later in the story I will address and take a guess as to how Six part of the loop is even though I don't believe the Maw has its own loop, more like its piggy backing off the Signal Tower.

I learned a lot about for this chapter, like how many miles wide the Atlantic Ocean (69, 510 miles)is and also that lands shifts about 2.5 centimeters a year. Maybe the world of Little Nightmares became the way it is due to magic, because if it happened naturally, DAMN that's a long time for the Atlantic Ocean to virtually disappear. I'm sure that I'm off in calculations but I took the bare minimum….i think.

I in my personal opinion don't believe there are other loops or that the Signal Tower covers the whole world, because it there were multiple loops or if the Signal Tower did cover the whole world, doesn't that mean everyone and everything in the LN universe just predestined to do the same thing over and over again. There has to be some factors or people that aren't affected.

Chapter 3: Why Are You Here?

Standing atop the repurposed Signal Tower we find our little hero. A year and a half had passed since the entire Island of Japan was freed from the control of the Signal Tower.

Mentally he was somewhere in the millions of years old, let's just disregard the fact that most of those memories are completely the same.

Physically he was probably 15 or 16, it was really hard to tell once you lose track. He had aged what he assumed to be 2 years due to the time screwing up for the small amount of time he spent in the Signal Tower and aged another year and a half naturally.

Mono now sported a brown leather trench coat that matched the appearance of the one from his youth along with a brown fedora. Underneath he wore a white button up dress shirt with a black tie and his pants were black slack. For shoes he wore a pair of brown business shoes. All in all, he looked like an over-the-top detective.

Such clothing in this world in really not ideal, considering that you had to run from deformed people and monsters but for someone of Mono's power set he had nothing to worry about.

Spreading out his hands while standing on the edge of the Signal Tower. His coat flapped in the wind, and he grabbed his hat and pushed down before it flew away. Mono took a deep breath of fresh air before slowly toppling over the edge of the monstrously tall building. He fell rapidly as the wind rushed past him, still keeping a hand on his hat. As he grew closer and closer to the ground, he could see his target. A TV that he had left outside faced towards the sky. And right as he made contact with the screen, he was gone in a bright static flash.

In the year and a half that humanity had been free, some ounce of normality had returned. Choices had to be made in regard to the island on a whole. Electricity was limited so only the essentials could be used like the hospital and people's houses. After all in a apocalyptic world like this businesses would not reopen. Everyone essentially relied on each other to survive. Mono didn't really know a lot about it, he let the adults handle that.

Out of another TV he appeared in a flash of static particles while running in a jog thru an open food market, moving past moving food carts rapidly by glitching past them or to the side. Everyone that saw him greeted him with a smile. One vendor even threw him a apple that he promptly caught before disappearing in another TV.

Disappearing and reappearing throughout the city, he made his way, surprising some people caught off guard. He stopped in a park where other children around the same age were sitting. With the teacher having a board out in the park.

"Your almost late again." A girl next to him whispered. She had pig tails on her head with blond hair. She had been one of the children recovered after the reset from the hospital. The other students heard and snickered.

"Mr. Mitsukeru, while I understand you have a very important role to play here, I would appreciate it if you appeared in a more discreet manner.

"Yes mam" Mono said tipping his hat.

Classes that were taught were English for every kid. After that other classes were taught but it depended on the group a kid was placed in. Those that had special qualities and those that were normal.

The reason being that adults couldn't venture beyond a boundary out in the sea around the island. They had tried to cross which resulted in one adults hand reverting back to a viewer's hand just from sticking it past the boundary for a split second. It reverted to normal after a while.

Progress all around the island was exceedingly slow, in their own opinion. While they may have gotten the power grid back up there was still the fear that one day something would come from beyond the border of the boundary.

Far away from the island a small wooden boat with a figure approached the island before washing ashore. A figure stood up before slowly making their way to the city.

I was only after the classes had just about finished that the teacher looked off into the distance and her eyes widened slightly and she went pale.

The children also looked back before mirroring her actions as well, because there by the tree line stood a man, if he could even be called that. In a long coat and fedora, with a face stretched out of proportions stood the Ferryman. The adults did not know who this person was but were put off by only his appearance. The children however, at least the ones that traveled around a bit, had heard of the Ferryman before in tales spread amongst themselves.

Most of the children had the first thought of running and they did, for even if the island had returned to normalcy, it had only been a year, and they had spent who knows how long in this nightmarish world before.

His steps were heavy as even on the grassy ground one could hear the thump of his heavy boots.

"Now this is a sight I'd never thought I'd see." His deep voice thrummed.

Mono stood up, scared but still brave enough to stand in front of everyone, with static popping and crackling in both his hands and eyes.

"Why are you here!?" Mono asked in a raised voice as some children were screaming while running away.

"I assure you child that I have no ill intentions. I was merely curious as to how this city reverted to what it once was." He asked.

"Yeah, well you've seen us, so now you can go." Mono said.

"Perhaps I could provide you with some information for you, if you could answer just a couple of my questions." The Ferryman pressed on.

Mono was silently considering it but he didn't know what information he'd ask for, and also the fact that he didn't know if the Ferryman would tell other creatures of what had become of the Pale City.

The Ferryman as if reading his thoughts spoke again.

"You are right to worry about word getting out about your little settlement, however while I do work for the Maw, our partnership is a simple one with mutual benefits. I never speak directly or indirectly to the Lady that rules the Maw. Should you answer my questions I can provide you with a map and other papers with information of the outside world." Ferryman said.

"I'll answer what I can, but I can't promise a simple answer." Mono said still on edge.

"Very well. How did you escape your loop?" The Ferryman asked point blank.

"How did you know?" Mono asked

"This is not my first time coming to the Pale City, while my time here is always brief, I have seen you in your various ages, so I know exactly who you are, or should I say what you were supposed to become." Ferryman said.

"But why don't I remember you, I don't remember ever meeting you." Mono said.

The Ferryman remained silent not answering, instead waiting for Mono to answer his question.

"My future self and I worked together to trap the Eyes within a TV, trapping him in a void between transmissions." Mono said, not telling him about Tele-Mono's existence

"It was just you two? There was nothing else different about your loop, a voice in your head perhaps, promising you freedom in exchange for something?" Ferryman asked.

This question both shocked and confused him. At first, he had thought that the Ferryman somehow knew of Tele-Mono, but when he thought about it Tele-Mono hadn't even mentioned any type of deal.

"The only person that helped in my escape was myself." Mono answered, with was technically the truth.

The Ferryman studied Mono for a while, what he was looking for, Mono did not know.

"Very well then, my final question, or questions if your will." The Ferryman said while rubbing where Mono assumed his chin should be.

Mono nodded giving a go ahead.

"Do you sometimes feel like something is watching you or finding yourself growing more tired and apathetic? Do you hear a muttering voice in your head?" He asked.

It was at this point that Mono was completely confused but answered truthfully.

"No, I feel otherwise fine." Mono answered.

The Ferryman began walking towards Mono quickly that made him tense, but he held off from doing anything. The Ferryman bent over slightly to get a better look at Mono.

"Interesting….a deal is a deal." The Ferryman said reaching into his coat and pulling out a small journal and a map that was rolled up, handing them to Mono who took them slowly.

"I cannot wait to see what the future holds for you. I bid you farewell." The Ferry

"Wait! Hey wait up. How come I don't remember you!?" Mono said as he glitched and ran after the Ferryman who had quickly walked into the tree line. The Ferryman hadn't even left Mono's sight for one second and yet somehow, he had vanished.

Mono stood there dazed, not knowing the answers to any of the new questions he had been asked by the Ferryman.

Very soon afterward the small military that the group had formed. They had talked to the Teacher and some of the other children. They asked the children specifically for more information on the Ferryman but what they had to go off of was here say.

The Captain specifically came to Mono to check on him personally. While the island that they were on used to be a part of Japan, somehow people from around the world were here with no recollection of how they got here after the world changed. The Captain being one of them, Adam Walker came from what used to be America, the last memory from before the world changed was him being at his apartment in New York. Mono talked to him regularly as he came over to his family's house quite frequently.

"You alright kid?" Adam asked.

"Yeah…I'm fine Mr. Walker" Mono said handing the papers he received to him.

"Me and the other adult leaders will take a look at it. Why don't we get you home huh?" He said taking the papers.

"Yeah." Mono said despondently.

That night went like any other for Mono who was silently contemplating the last questions of the Ferryman.

He had gone to bed in his room but had woken up by some noise a couple of rooms over. Silently Mono walked and waited just around the corner of the hall. He peered just around the corner and saw his parents, the hunter, the teacher, the doctor, Mr. Walker.

"Adam for the last time, our son will not be going out there, do you even know what you're asking of him." His mother said looking quite angry.

"But we can't just keep waiting for something to happen, just today some freak came and walked right up to Mono." Adam said.

"Mr. Walker, we don't even know what we might be sending Mono into, even with his abilities he would still be in danger." The teacher said.

"Your right we may not know exactly, but now we at least have an idea." Adam said throwing down the map from the Ferryman onto the table.

"Where did you get this?" Mono's dad asked while looking it over with the other adults.

"That freak gave this to your son before he ran." Adam said.

"From what I can gather, WE are here." Adam said circling a small island near one of the edges of the map, right in the center of the other 2 corners of the map.

"The boundary reaches about 8 maybe 10 miles out around the island. From what the scientist can hypothesized Japan looks relatively the same, in main part because of the loop. The loop doesn't go beyond the boundary, so the rest of the world kept moving on…." Adam said while pausing looking at the ground.

"What are you trying to say, hurry up spit it out." The Hunter said impatiently.

Mr. Walker took a deep breath before continuing.

"How long do you think we were stuck in that loop?" he asked.

"Most likely a couple million years, or around there, seeing as that's as far back as Mono can remember." The Doctor said

"Well, we were wrong, horribly wrong. Take a look at the map again, tell me what you see." He asked.

"…...Every land mass seems to have gathered together almost, while not quite touching yet, there seems to still be some waterways going thru." His mother said.

"And how long do you think it takes for the world to shift like this?" he asked.

"I don't know." She answered honestly.

"Sigh…...from the rough estimates that my boys can give me, for the earth to have shifted so much, ASSUMING it happened naturally, the time needed for this to happen would have to be at the very least four billion four hundred seventy-four million six hundred forty thousand years would have needed to pass." He said standing up.

The entire room was silent, shock appearing on all their faces.

"I'm not sure if there are other loops out in the world, there may be, otherwise I don't know how those things could still keep a steady population. How do they keep the population steady? Are we the only ones free? How strong are our enemies? Who or what even is our main enemy? There are too many questions that we need answers to, and we can't just keep waiting around for someone else to make the first move." Adam said.

"So, you think sending my son out into those places will give you answers." Mono's father asked incredulously.

"Out of all the children that have been found, families found or not, only a handful of them have powers." Adam said

"Then why not get one of the others." His mother asked, although she hated asking someone else to go out she still didn't want her son going out.

"Firstly, because out of all the children with powers documented, your son has powers that far outclasses others, in fact his powers are still growing, take a look at this." Adam said handing a folder to both his parents.

"As you know we run tests on children with powers to better assist them in becoming more used to using them as they may prove to be humanities hope in the future. In that folder is the recordings of your sons' power from the past year. His power isn't just growing slightly, it's growing exponentially. One of the charts in there is for recording the type of power he exudes, tell me are you familiar with CMBR." Adam asked.

"The static on the TV you mean?" Mono's father said unsure.

"You are partially right. CMBR stands for Cosmic Microwave Background Radiation, the static that TV's can pick up, while not present in amounts that are detrimental to humans the stuff is technically everywhere, all around us, penetrating us. Your son's powers pick up on it, almost like he's a TV himself for example. When your son showed signs of actually using his powers that's when the levels start to rise at astronomical levels. Not counting your son's reality and time-based powers, he may be able to straight up kill those monsters just by being near them, the amount of radiation he'll be able to give off might even reach the levels of a nuclear reactor melting down when he's older." Adam said.

"So, to top it off, he's powerful, he can use his powers more then any of the other children and from what we can tell, unlike the other children Mono's powers don't seem to have any sort of drawbacks." Adam said.

Silence reigned again in the room.

"I think the kid should go, if he wants to of course, we can't force him." The Hunter said

The Doctor and Teacher believed that Mono should stay her along with his parents, while Adam and the Hunter believed he should go out.

"Listen, I know you care for your son a great deal, but we have to look at the bigger picture…just ask your son, if he doesn't want to go then we'll leave it at that. We'll probably have to try with a different kid I guess." Adam said.

"Ok we'll ask him tomorrow and get back to you." His mother said after much deliberation.

The adults got up all preparing to leave and his parents to walk them out. Right when Mono was about to rush back into his room, he bumped into his grandfather who also looked like he had just woken up. His grandfather held a finger to his mouth gesturing to keep silent and pointed towards Mono's room. The two went to Mono's room.

He gestured for Mono to get back into bed and so he did.

"I'm not very good with having talks like this Mono." His grandfather said pulling a chair to sit by Mono's bed

"If I have to be honest, I don't want you to even think about going out there, this is a problem that we as adults should be handling. Your father has asked me about this before and it puts us all in a very difficult position, especially your parents. The discussion has come up more than once but your parents just cant bear to even bring the subject up. Your just a kid Mono, you shouldn't have to be worrying about things like this" His Grandfather said

"They'll send someone else if I don't want to go?" Mono asked

"They'll ask someone else, but they won't force anyone, the other adults already feel bad enough even having to consider using children. Before the world became what it is today, we would have never even thought of such an idea. I don't actually believe it'll be to much if you decide not to go, most of the surviving people might even be happy if you stayed Mono. Stay or go, the people that you have saved here will always think of you as a hero." His Grandfather said

"A hero? What does that mean?" Mono asked. In a world where the weak children died, and it was every kid for themselves such a word or concept had died out.

"It just means that you're a very good person. Very nice, caring of others and you've saved them in their eyes. Now I can't even imagine what might be going thru your head about all of this but just know that whatever you decide, we your family will always be there for you." His grandfather said before hugging Mono, before making his way out of the room

"Thanks Grandpa." Mono said right before he closed the door.

The Next Morning

At breakfast everything seemed normal. His parents and grandparents were still talking to him and amongst each other, but you could tell there was a hint of awkwardness in the air.

There were several times where it seemed like his parents would bring up the topic from last night, but Mono could see the doubt on their faces as they stopped themselves each time.

"I'll go." Was the only two words Mono muttered before silence reigned over the dinner room.

His parents looked at him in surprise, so Mono continued.

"I was listening last night. I heard most of what you and the other adults were talking about." Mono said.

"Mono you don't really have to go; it was just a suggestion. Mr. Walker will find someone else-"His mom said before he cut her off.

"It's fine mom, I can do it. If anything happens, I can just use my powers to get away." Mono said.

And just as his mother was about to protest, his father stopped her from speaking.

"Are you sure about this Mono?" his father asked.

"Someone has to go, and I just don't want the other kids like me to have to be asked to go out, besides I want to help other people if I can." Mono said.

"Sigh…well you know the outside world better than us I suppose. Ok then, we'll go tell Mr. Walker, and see what needs to be prepared." His father said.

From then on it was a whirlwind of preparation as plans were drawn up and supplies that Mono could carry on hand had to be prepared.

Mono had one simple mission, go to the nearest big city that was most likely had a curse over it similar to the Pale City, gather information, and then return with other children that might follow. If he finds an opportunity to somehow save the city, then he should take it.

About one week later, there Mono stood near the open ocean. A small wooden sailboat floated tied to a dock. In front of him stood his family and every other resident of their city that could come.

"Come back immediately if you find any trouble, ok?" his mother said.

Mono gave a grunt of affirmation while hugging her before hugging the rest of his family goodbye. Some of the other adults dressed up in makeshift military garb saluted him as he passed by and he did the same albeit awkwardly.

Plopping himself in the boat he slowly set off as everyone waved and hollered goodbye. Mono also waved back as the boat slowly drifted away.

However, unknown to everyone, while Mono was waving, the reflection he casted upon the crystal-clear water shook like static before becoming still again, the reflection now sporting a much different facial expression then Mono's. A smirk was present while the eyes were covered by the shadow of his hat. Just as quick as it had appeared it was gone, the reflection shook again, back to Mono's exact copy.

Somewhere across the sea

Gnawing on a corpse with blood and guts smothered on her face Six was busy filling her stomach. With a immense show of bite force she snapped the bone and sucked out the marrow giving a satisfied sigh. She had been trying to figure out how to get back to the Pale City but had no such luck yet. As much as she wanted to take control of the Maw to get her to the Pale City she had now way to keep the vessel operational just by herself. So she left the crew alive to keep it going but they still wouldn't listen to her. Perhaps only when she grew a bit more would they obey her. For now the Maw still wandered aimlessly thru the sea, always welcoming more guests for Six to feed on.

She LOVED the feeling of strength she would get from eating people, particularly children that held powers. The only thing she hated was the fact that her Hunger only seemed to grow the more she grew. The Maw always provided her with more guest though so while.

At first she had thought that she had everything under control, she ate primarily rats and food prepared by the Chefs, and when her Hunger got really out of control she would suck the souls out of all the guests in the Maw. Then the Hunger struck when she was, she was around a fire with some other children. She had then proceeded to eat them all, and while it had not really disturbed her, it had made her think that the Hunger was beginning to rule over her daily life. Her trips to the mainland were becoming shorter and shorter. She was still a relatively silent person, but she had learned to speak a lot better thanks to talking with other children on the Maw. Life on the Maw may have not been perfect but at least she was alive. Sometimes if she thought about the cruelty of the world, she would remember her happy memories with Mono. As long as she got more powerful, she was confident that she would be able to save Mono when she finally gets back to the Pale City.

It's a shame she'll never get the chance however, The Maw already has its claws in her. Her Hunger would soon reach a point where the Maw would welcome in guests at a rate similar to when the Lady was in charge, before she could never leave it again.

Chapter 4: Journey to Cupidity City

Mono: Holder of the Power of Transmission embodying Escapism

Skills: Glitch- short-ranged teleport (Low-Tier)

Into the Transmission- Long-ranged teleport that requires the use of a TV. (Low-Tier)

Changing Broadcast-Reality manipulation (Low-Tier) Note: I rate Mono's Reality Manipulation as low tier due to the fact that I've only really seen Mono and Thin Man distort and bend things. Nothing really complicated like out right creating something or changing the composition of something.

Eternal Transmission- TV's no longer need to be plugged in for Mono to use. (Passive)

Signal Interference-?(Mid-Tier)

As Seen on TV-?(High-Tier)

We Interrupt This Program-?(High-Tier)

CMBR Blast- Self explanatory (Mid-Tier)

Six: Host of Gluttony

Skills: Cannibalism- Feast on human flesh, acquire powers of your meal. NOTE: Now that I think about it. Six ate the Lady but only got Soul Absorption, when the Lady showed powers like Teleportation, Telekinesis, Darkness Camouflage, and turning children to Nomes. I guess it's like a lottery and she only get one ability from people she eats. Or we just haven't been given the chance to see her use them. Wouldn't it be funny thought if Six's power of eating people worked and when she eats the Lady all she gets it Nome Transformation. (Low-Tier/Passive) taking Hunger into account.

Soul Eater- Consume souls. Offers Immortality, beauty and a fast-healing factor. (High-Tier)

Authors Note: So if I leave question marks near a skill, I already know what I want it do, I just don't want you guys to know what it does yet, you can guess, by the weird and kinda long names I gave them. Might thinks of some more things for Six considering she gets stronger by eating other people with power specifically.

I have some other skills for Mono as well but if I put the names on it might reveal to some what direction I plan on going with in this story. Some of you have probably even guessed already, as there are minor hints (or at least what I consider minor). I'd say about a third of Mono's skills are things that I believe he would legitimately be able to do, the other third I made up, and the last third are things I believe he could do but would probably never use them considering they are more sinister or cruel.

Take a guess on what Mono's other skills might be, you might be right, or I could just add it. I rank these moves based on complexity in how hard it is to pull off or control
