Chaos in a Broken Cycle

Erick Kingdom-Tal vez se reúnan en el próximo capítulo y tengan una charla adecuada, o tal vez Mono se escape

- Thank you, I'm glad you like it so far.

Zaylo267-Of the 3 that you guessed one is spot on. Another one is extremely close however the way it will be used is far more sinister. If TV's could control the citizens of the Pale City then the only thing that's stopping Mono from doing the same is his good nature. Be it from the Flesh Walls or Mono himself all who view the Transmission will obey.

The Mandalorian-I assure you, we will see them.

ToonArtist403- You may or may not like the next chapter, it'll be a lot of will they, won't they?

Apenasoutrocafe-Obrigado

Note- It may take a little longer for the next chapter, my work schedule is changing drastically starting next week. I'll be changing shifts and teaching some to take over mine so don't be worried if there is a minor delay.

Chapter 4: Journey to Cupidity City

The journey to the mainland took a good couple of hours. The lull and rocking of the boat were comforting to Mono. He took this time to check the pockets of his coat to see what was packed inside. A small journal and pencil. A couple of emergency ration bars and one of those small tightly packed emergency blankets. In another pocket he had a folded map and a compass. Around his neck was a camera that was kind of big and clunky. It had been slightly smaller when he was still on the island but once he crossed the boundary it changed to an old clunky polaroid camera.

Sitting there for a few more hours Mono thought to himself. If he was still his old self, he'd be scared of being alone. However, compared to being along for a couple million years in a silent room with nothing to do, this was a cake walk. He did eventually fall asleep for a few hours.

A few hours later, he awoke to a grey sky with dull brown clouds. The boat still sailing on, but what put Mono on edge was the fact that the waves had stopped, the water was still and there was no wind, and yet somehow the boat still sailed forward. Within a few more minutes, he could see land. The boat slowly came to a halt as it came into contact with land. Mono stepped out, careful no to wet his shoes and pulling the boat onto land to keep it from floating off. Mono walked a bit further until he came over a hill where he saw an open field of tall grass that eventually met a forest very far away, and even farther in the distance a mountain could be seen. There were no people, animals or any signs of life, not even a trail to see if anything has been by here.

Unfolding the map and taking out the compass he tried to see where he was at. He could just about guess where he had landed as the map had a picture of the mountain, so he had a general idea of where he was. Going forward, walking amongst the field the air somehow smelled stale.

For all the time that he knew he would be alone, Mono actually wasn't really bothered by it anymore, was it because he grew up some, perhaps with he viewed it as needless worry, or maybe it was the fact that he knew he had family waiting on him and counting on him. He walked in silence as he traversed the open field until he came up to the edge of the forest. He ventures forth into the forest, the only sound being the leaves crumbling and crunching beneath his feet. There should be at least an old road that he can keep close to and follow on the other end of this forest. Who knows how long it would take him though? He kept walking for what felt like hours.

"This isn't as fun as I thought it would be." Mono spoke to himself as he was beginning to tire.

The sun was beginning to set so Mono decided that he would have to make a shelter soon. The forest itself seemed to go on for miles and was particularly flat terrain. Right as he stopped to observe the area for a spot to rest something quickly moved in the edge of his vision. Turning around quickly he saw nothing but trees upon trees. Now he felt as if he was being watched. Now Mono didn't move, he just stood, and listened. Waiting long enough he heard leaves quietly crunching.

Mono then felt something touch the back of his feet. Swiftly turning around Mono came to see a pup. Except there was something extremely peculiar about the pup. It's fur, or where Mono assumed it should be, instead covered by green pine tree like leaves. It still looked like fur, but he could tell it wasn't with just a touch. Where skin should have been visible there was rough bark like a tree. It was tugging at Mono's pants trying to get his attention.

"You all alone out here like me little fella." Mono asked picking up the pup. The Pup kept turning its head in another direction as if trying to tell Mono something.

A loud cry bellowed throughout the forest like some sort cattle. Mono looked in the direction that it had come from and saw a black figure sailing thru the air before crashing into a tree near Mono. Mono Shielded his eyes as the dust settled Mono saw what look like a bigger version on the pup he was holding.

It looked like a wolf that stood at Mono's height, which was pretty tall, considering Mono himself is tall for his age. The tree wolf creature shook itself groggily shaking dirt and dust off itself. The large creature looks around warily before spotting Mono holding the pup. The larger wolf approaches Mono growling causing Mono to take a step back. The Pup started letting out a little bark of its own and the larger wolf stopped growling but still looked at Mono warily.

However, the time they spent staring at each other was cut short by the loud thumps of something slowly approaching from deeper in the woods. Before Mono could see the other creature, another body was thrown into their clearing. Another wolf however it was just a husk of its former self. It had one hole that went into its body and it looked like all of its organs had been sucked out. The body still kept its form though, because of their hard bark like skin, Mono believed.

Slowly approaching out of the tree line, Mono could finally see a large creature approaching, much, much larger than the wolves.

"It that…a Moose?" Mono asked

The Moose was even larger than the wolves, almost towering over certain trees. It stared silently at Mono, the Pup, and the larger wolf. The Moose then slammed one of it's hooves repeatedly into the ground before letting out another bellow. It's skin then began to bulge in different areas erratically. The skin finally tore in certain areas as masses of flesh spilled out from the tears in the skin. Its entire body grew as well and now it stood far above the trees. It now looked like a giant ball of flesh that stood on four extremely thin, but tall legs. Long tentacles moved around as if they had a mind of their own and the creature had a huge gaping maw where the stomach of the Moose used to be. The only thing left that looked like a Moose was the head, which was still letting out shrill cries.

Mono for his part was extremely terrified and couldn't move. The same could be said for the pup in his hands. A tentacle lashed out at the two but right before it made contact, Mono was picked up by the back of his coat and sung onto the back of the large wolf as it jumped back. The large wolf then bolted towards the direction that Mono was originally heading in. The Moose gave chase, each step making a small boom. As slow as it was, its long steps managed to still keep up with the wolf. Its tentacles were lashing out trying to hit the trio.

"Are you kidding me! I haven't even been here for a day and there's already a Giant Flesh Moose trying to kill me!" Mono said talking to himself, while holding the pup to his chest with one arm and held on for dear life with the other.

The Green and Brown wolf sprinted thru the barren forest; the creature hot on their tails. The tentacles always striking the ground or destroying a nearby tree to splinters. The wolf always managed to dodge a incoming tentacle at the last second. However, what they did not see was a second one coming from the opposite side, threatening to smash them from both sides.

Acting quickly Mono closed his eyes and concentrated. Right before the moment of impact Mono and the rest of the trio disappeared in a glitch and appeared just a few feet ahead of where the tentacle slammed.

The larger wolf, caught off guard, stumbled but very quickly caught itself. It then looked at Mono, with what he assumed was surprise and a small tinge of gratefulness. And so they continued the escape, the wolf dodging what it could and then Mono glitching them out of attacks they could not dodge. The chase went on for what felt like hours and Mono could tell that the larger wolf was getting slower by the second.

"I'm gonna try something, try to keep us steady." Mono said to the wolf, who he hoped understood.

Mono put the pup into one of the bigger pockets of his coat, with only its head sticking out. He then turned himself around while the wolf kept running. Both of Mono's hands started to ring with static. A pulse emitted from his hands as he reached out with his right hands first, turning it like he was turning a dial the creature's right side of its body started to distort and bend, along with the trees and earth around it. However, if the creature was in pain, it did nothing. Reaching out with his left hand now he turned both hands in the opposite direction of each other, it was only after doing so did the creature finally let loose a cry of pain. Mono did not let up and kept turning, and the two opposing forces that he was emitting from both hands started to rip the Moose in half. A desperate struggle then ensued as the Moose lashed out, mere feet from Mono. Almost caught off guard the energy grew in his hands as time now distorted and the incoming tentacle came at a crawl. With one last desperate heave Mono threw both hands apart as the Moose was finally ripped in half. Each part falling to the ground in a loud crash that shook the ground.

The wolf came to a stop and stared at the fallen Moose. Its flesh still pulsing with aftershocks of life. The wolf stared for a few seconds, before falling to the ground in a heap. Mono pulled the Pup out of his pocket and set it on the ground. It ran to the larger wolf, licking its face in worry. Only when it was laying there did Mono notice a gash on its lower stomach that was bleeding profusely.

"You've been running this entire time, even while you were injured?" Mono said to himself although the wolf still heard. It looked at Mono before licking the Pup and then pushing it toward Mono. The Pup went back to the wolf, but it was still pushed back to Mono.

Mono now understood, this was the pup's mother and in its final moments it was asking for Mono to take care of the pup. The pup also understanding albeit still whimpering sadly.

It was at that point that Mono finally realized it was the dead of night. The only source of light being given off by the moon. Very soon the giant wolf gave its last breath and Mono had to scoop up the pup and make his way in the dark towards a safe location.

He finally found a large tree that was hallowed out in a higher section of the tree. He glitched to a strong branch near the hole in the tree. He just barely managed to fit into the hole, just barely managing to fit there.

"Sometimes I miss being small." Mono said while pulling out the thin emergency blanket over himself and the pup falling asleep.

A Dream

Mono woke up standing in a lush green open field. The sky was blue, and the scene was much better than the location of where he currently was in reality. Then the entire world around him became covered in static before changing to a new scenery on after another. A gray city with large factories and a thick smog covering the sky. Next, he was at the bottom of what he assumed was the ocean, looking up from the dark abyss as his vision was blocked by some giant vessel floating in the ocean. Next there was a desert that showed abandoned houses and a huge windstorm of dust with a red glow far away. Another change occurred, a city that looked even more run down then the Pale City in what looked to be a jungle, Mono could see figures beating each other everywhere as if it were common, other adults walking past them paying no mind. Static crackles, another shift, a City that glowed in a pink hue with spotlights dancing across the night sky, Mono could hear the slight beat of muffled music. The scene quickly changed again. One final city that looked clean, very clean in fact, and very, very high. In fact Mono could see clouds that looked extremely close. If it weren't for the fact that the sky was still grey it would actually look nice. Then there was one last static change and Mono now stood before a figure, laying down comfortably on a huge theater couch.

The figure paid Mono no mind as it continued to look at a giant theater screen watching shows Mono didn't even know what they were about.

"Uh excuse me?" Mono said. The figure paid no mind.

"Hello?! Can you hear me? Who are you? Where am I?" Mono kept asking over and over again. Finally, the figure seemed to have been annoyed and answered.

"Ok what do you wa—Oh it's you." The figure said turning to Mono allowing him to finally get a closer look at the figure. It was himself, at least he thought it was. This version of Mono was extremely pale and had black eyes with grey irises. He also had black rings around his eyes as if he had not slept in days.

"Tele-Mono?" Mono asked

"Sigh…..just great. Listen I'm gonna make this quick. I am not your past self or anything like that, this just happens to be how I look since I'm in your head. You may call me Sloth and I can see your heading to Cupidity City, right? Pray tell, why exactly are you going there?" Sloth said turning his face back to the screen while still talking.

"I don't really know, I just want to help make the world a better place." Mono said even though he still had questions for Sloth.

"Oh and how exactly will you do that, you'll save a few kids, maybe piss off a couple adults?" Sloth said.

"I broke the cycle at the Pale City, I can do it again here!" Mono argued.

"Oh please, you got lucky! The Flesh Walls at the Signal Tower never saw it coming, you caught it off guard. If you actually fought it on equal grounds, he best you'd probably be able to do is die with it. And now you're going to Cupidity City home to the vice of Greed. The moment you step into that city The Flesh Walls there are going to know your there, they might not find you right off the bat, but they'll know, because I'm stuck here with you." Sloth said.

"Who even are you, you said your name is Sloth but that doesn't tell me anything." Mono said slightly miffed but holding it in.

"Need I explain more? Gosh you humans sure ask a lot of questions; I almost want to go back to sleep. FINE! I am the subconscious manifestation of Sloth; I'll spare you the nitty gritty details and sum it up. Basically, the other Vices don't exactly like me, the Pale City was a cage for me just as it was for you. The souls sucked out by the televisions were used to keep me asleep forever. The Flesh Walls managed it; you were like a little battery that the Flesh Walls would leech off of. The loop would restart everything, and the process would continue to repeat itself for seemingly forever. Imagine my surprise though when I woke up a year ago to find that you managed to break the loop! Color me impressed, however all of that quickly went down the drain when you decided to be a little hero and venture to Greed's little cesspool." Sloth said.

"Well why do you care what I do, it sounds like you're trying to stop me." Mono said.

"Of course, I'm trying to stop you. If you go, there and get captured we'll just end up right back where we started. They'll suck you dry of your powers and stuff us both back in a loop. And do you really think the other vices will let you free humanity. Listen to me, nothing you do will change anything, just turn around and go home, no one will think any less of you. You're just a kid, what can you do in the face of monsters." Sloth said.

"I can't just turn around; people are counting on me. How can I let them down?" Mono said still wary of Sloth. He noticed huge chains that were strewn about the room, leading to a section of the room that was pitch black. A steady breath of wind coming from the darkness like something huge was sleeping just beyond the inky blackness.

"Ugh, you are by far the most annoying human I've ever had the displeasure of meeting. Very well be on your way, if you get caught please kill yourself, I'd rather not get caught in a loop again. And never ever mention that you talked to me, don't even mention my name." Sloth said.

"Wait, if you really don't want to get caught maybe we could work tog—" Mono was cut off as the entire world went to static. And then he awoke.

Now alone the other Mono now spoke.

"Your still asleep right? That's good." He spoke looking concerned slightly

End of Dream

When Mono woke up he stretched himself, as young as he was it still hurt to sleep in a awkward position. Very quickly he noticed that the pup was no longer in his coat pocket. Looking around frantically Mono saw no sign of the wolf pup. He was just about to call out before he heard a yawn from the pup behind him. Turning around he saw the pup slowly walking out of the tree like it was a part of it.

"I didn't know you could do that." Mono spoke to the wolf pup.

Taking a piece of a ration bar out, Mono bit it, not really liking the flavor but can't find room to complain. He looked at the Pup to see if he was hungry only to see the Pup clawing at the bark of a tree before ripping it off and eating it.

"Well, I guess I don't have to worry about feeding you for now." Mono said.

Taking out the journal given to him Mono quickly wrote down what he could remember from the dream.

"How do you feel about the name Barky?" Mono asked as the pup was running ahead rolling itself in the grass.

Walking a bit farther Mono could see a road in the distance. Many cracks in the asphalt and grass growing on it but it still led to his destination.

Just over the ridge of the mountain, a rising black smog could be seen and a dark city filled with monsters lurking around every corner laid.

The Maw

Six was currently watching carefully from the control room of the Maw, looking to see where the giant vessel was stopping next. A screen currently displayed a city that had a black smog hanging over the tall buildings.

She had changed her outfit after raiding the room of the Lady, that now technically belonged to her. She had to her great surprise found another larger raincoat that now fit her taller body with matching rain boots as well along with a red demon mask to cover her face. Underneath the yellow raincoat she wore a light blue short yukata.

The Maw would rise and dock at the City for one day before leaving in order to replenish supplies as well as picking up new Guests. She had already eaten her fill of meat and souls in the morning and now they would prepare for their next voyage. On the Maw she was a natural, with a beating heart of stone. But she understood that you have to be so cold to make it in this world. Living her life cutthroat. She had on more than one occasion tried to befriend other children only for them to try and kill her in her sleep. She never could find someone else quite like Mono. So pure and untainted from the world, still retaining some innocence and wanting to help her all the time. Those memories brought her warmth, and guilt, not a day goes by that she thinks about how things could have played out differently. Her plan of saving Mono however had suffered delay after delay and now she couldn't even go a day at most without the Hunger plaguing her. The Maw was the only place that could sustain her.

Sometimes when the Maw got close to certain cities, she would feel like something was calling to her. However, when she came to this city she felt like there were 2 of those presences calling out to her. A few hours later when she stepped out of the Maw and snuck onto the docks, she took a deep breath, and a familiar smell entered her nose. She almost paused in shock and disbelief before taking another deep and long breath.

"Mono?!" she whispered, whipping her head around looking for him before taking another sniff. Six took off running sprinting thru the legs of the corrupted inhabitants of the city. As she left she never noticed that Shadow Six was looking in the direction that she took of in. Shadow Six was not looking at Six, rather she was looking at something else. But she didn't notice because she was just so hopeful and excited, but also nervous.

All the way across the other side of the city Mono had spent a couple more days to actually make it to the city. While still young, he was very tall for his age and none of the other Adults paid him any mind so long as he kept his head down.

Behind Mono without his knowledge a static version of himself stood soundlessly behind him looking past him.

Gluttony and Sloth noticing each other even across the vast expanse of the Greed ridden city. Shadow Six glaring at Static Mono and Static Mono looking back with half lidded sleepy eyes showing no other signs that he cared for what the other vice thought.

"As lazy as he is, you must always watch Sloth, for while he does little, every action he takes is calculated with nothing but brutal efficiency in mind. Long cons are what he excels at." Shadow Six

Submit an OC- If you've read all of the prior stuff then you know what I'm going for. I need at least 4 children, so pick a vice that remains. Of course, they don't necessarily have to be modeled after a vice, they could just join Mono on his adventure. My boy is building a team. Here the criteria.

Vices undecided- Pride, Wrath, Lust, Envy and Greed.

Give them a power that's strong but has a curse similar to Six's Hunger. Note: This is if you want your OC to play a critical role. Some may live and escape their fate; some are already too far gone. It's predetermined that some of these poor unfortunate children will enter eternal slumber. Just give powers for vice holders and I'll PM you with some questions to decide the fate of your OC. Basically I'll give you a scenario for the OC and you tell me a logical way the child would respond. Also, Vice holders age normally.

Perhaps you don't want to possibly curse your OC, in that case they may join Mono on his adventure. And they may even have a small little minor power up their sleave.
