Chapter 7: The Clock Tower and A Girl with Glowing Eyes

When Mono woke up he came to as two large hands were hanging above him.

"Ahhhh!" He yelled backing up. The hands still floated in the air but now Mono could see that they were connected to something. They seemed to be long appendages and when Mono followed where they led to they circled around him. He soon came to the realization that they were coming from his back. Each Hand seemed to be made up of static and had an eye at the center of the palm. Mono experiment with them. As he clenched his right hand, do to do the static hand on his right clench. He did so with the left hand as well. When he did nothing with them, they seemed to just float there, looking around as if they had a mind of their own, sometimes looking at him, other times they looked around on their own. Looking around he saw Six passed out in a corner. Looking down near his feet he saw the pup trembling. Picking the pup up he looked at it closely.

"How long was I out buddy? And what exactly happened after I passed out?" He asked, of course not expecting a answer but asking nonetheless.

One of the static hands then reached out and pet the pups head, startling the pup and causing it to look around, it's eyes never landing on where the hands floated.

"You can't see them? Hmmmm" Mono thought. He then remembered that he had to give up an eye for these arms. He spotted a puddle formed from dripping water coming from a pipe and looked into it. One of his eyes now had a grew iris with a pitch-black pupil.

Mono then went over to check on Six. The moment his hand touched her she suddenly woke up grabbing Mono's hand in a tight grip that honestly hurt. The hands floating around Mono suddenly flew right at Six preparing to hurt her by the way they were grabbing at her head. They stopped right in front of her, shaking in agitation, the eyes on their palm focusing on her. Mono however stopped them at the last second. It took a second for Six to realize that she was crushing Mono's arm before she quickly let go looking around furiously. It was obvious to Mono now that she couldn't see the hands that were dangerously close to strangling her.

She looked slightly weaker then usual as she held her stomach but other then that it seemed she was fine. Her hands then grabbed Mono's face surprising him. She was looking deep into his eyes, or one eye specifically.

"What happened to your eye?" She asked.

"I…..honestly don't know. Maybe I used my powers too much." Mono said trying to make something up

Six's hands lingered on Mono's face longer than he would have liked but she then moved them in favor of reaching for his hand again. Mono however used both hands to hold the pup. Her face then returned to what Mono was used to, an emotionless mask as her eyes lingered on the pup again, unknown to Mono.

The two hands receded into Mono's coat. Their single eyes each peering from the darkness of his coat. They went deeper into the tight halls covered in piping. As they ventured deeper into the building, they passed many other hallways that were blocked off by barred gates. Some of the hallways opened up into small areas that looked like small rooms that some people had slept in at one point. They eventually came to the end of their exploration when they came to a final room at the end of the winding hallways. In the room there was a small bed and a TV. Littered around the room were various knick knacks. Mono walked up to TV and pressed his hand to the screen while concentrating.

He could feel another TV somewhere within the building and was about to disappear into the screen before Six grabbed his arm. Mono turned around to see her looking at him scared.

"Please don't leave me." Six said.

"I'm only going to look around, besides we can both handle ourselves, right?" Mono said.

Six was silent for a second before shaking her head in a no motion.

"Take me with you." Six said.

"Not to be mean but I don't exactly feel comfortable squeezing into a small screen with you." Mono said.

Six didn't say anything but only held onto Mono's arm tighter and looking at him pleadingly.

"….fine. Hold my hand." Mono sighed while Six gladly grabbed his hand.

It took just a bit longer to disappear into the screen with Six, and the usual smooth teleportation felt like the two were pressed close together. Six wrapped herself around Mono looking content while Mono felt like he was being knocked around wildly. They were then blurted out of a screen and crashed on the floor with Six on top of Mono looking at his face.

"Could you get off of me please." Mono groaned out.

It seemed that Six hadn't heard him at first before it clicked in her head and she got off. Mono picked himself up and checked on the pup and dusted himself off. Walking to the exit of the room Mono opened the door to hear the grinding and clicking of gears. Six followed close behind him as they went down another hallway. The deeper they went the louder and louder the clicking got. When they finally got to the end of the hall, they were met with the sight of giant gears moving in a extremely large room. Black webs were everywhere but somehow didn't stop any of the gears from doing their jobs. Hanging from the ceiling were black webbed cocoons that hung still and the walls were also cover in black web with bulges from cocoons stuck into it. Towards one wall Mono could see they were in the top floor of the Clock Tower.

One of the cocoons was moving wildly in a corner. Mono approached the cocoon slowly. Something tore out of the cocoon as Mono readied himself. What stuck it's head thru the small whole wasn't a creature, but rather a scared child. Mono was ready to go help the child escape but the moment he took a step forward his foot hit a web wire that moved causing the other webs attached to shake and vibrate.

"It's coming! It's coming!" the child yelled out frantically.

The black webbing started shaking violently as if something was quickly making its way here. Looking around Mono saw that Six had disappeared.

"Can't say it wasn't expected." Mono thought

A creature then pushed open a window on of the Clock Towers face. Mono was caught red handed by the creature that immediately noticed him. This monster looked to have the top half a human and the bottom half of a spider. Its bottom half was spider-like in shape but seemed to be made up of mannequin parts and other twisted human limbs. The top half was that of a human woman who was looking Mono up and down as if judging his worth past her long greasy hair. She was dressed in a expensive looking blouse but that did nothing to make up for her greasy and grotesque face.

"My my, I haven't seen something like you before! You must be exceptionally rare! Now that I can see your face much more clearly, I can tell you aren't an adult, I remember watching you earlier. Who could have guessed that you would bring yourself to me!" The lady said.

"Who are you?" Mono asked trying to keep a calm face but screaming on the inside.

"Oh! He can speak much more fluently than the others, you really are a special thing child. But I'm getting ahead of myself. I am The Collector! I simply adore children, especially ones such as yourself, I must admit I've never seen a GROWN child, so tell me WHAT can you do?" She asked smiling down on Mono.

"I don't know what your talking about." Mono said trying to keep the conversation going while he thought of a escape plan. Out of the corner of his eye he caught a sight of yellow and he briefly saw Six trying to sneak up on the Collector with her claws tensed.

"Oh come now child, don't play coy with me, although after I capture you I'd be more than happy to tell you." The Collector said as Six prepared to attack from behind.

"And your little friend too!" The Collector said spinning around and shooting black webbing at Six's face causing her to tumble mid jump, clawing at her face trying to tear the webbing off.

Six succeeded in tearing the webbing from her face with her claws but right at she did she was webbed again on her hands and then swung against the webbing on the wall, hanging there suspended. Mono's hands lit up. But before he could actually do something he had to glitch before he was webbed to the floor. He quickly hid behind some moving gears.

"My my, I must say, I've never met a child so comfortable with using their powers such as you." She said as Mono pressed himself into his hiding place. He peeked around the corner to see that the Collector was gone. Looking around frantically he was blindsided by a long spider appendage hitting him in the side.

"Did you really think you could beat me? In my own home mind, you. Unfortunately for you, you'll be just another piece to my collection." She said casually lowering herself from the ceiling from atop a ledge while webbing Mono's hands.

Off to the side Six was still stuck on the wall, trying her hardest to pull her head off of the sticky web so that she could gnaw the webbing off of her hands, but no matter how hard she stretched the web it would not tear.

Mono was concentrating static in his hands while trying to tear away the webbing. He could feel the heat building up and was sure that he could burn away the webbing.

The Collector kept trying to web Mono into place however try as he might, he was eventually caught off guard as his feet were webbed to the floor as well.

"Well, you were a little more troublesome with your powers, at the end of the day you are still just a child. What hope do you have outsmarting adults" She said while marching up to Mono getting a closer look at him.

"Ah, your skin is far better then the average child as well, I almost don't want to put you in a cocoon. Maybe I can make something special out of you?" She said getting up in Mono's face. Six was still thrashing against the wall trying to break free. In fact when the Collector got close to Mono her eyes widened before she began screaming bloody murder, thrashing even harder then before.

"IF YOU HURT HIM I'LL KILL YO-" Six screamed

For a moment the web looked like it would give way but before it could she was webbed again and also webbed on her mouth.

"Well, she certainly has a mouth doesn't she. Well, no more time for dilly dallying, as much as I'd like to spend the day with you there's always more to be discovered in the city." The Collector said while stretching some web between both her hands preparing to cocoon Mono. She started with his legs before carrying him upside down, intending to hand him from the ceiling. The ceiling in the room was exceptionally tall, meant to house all the gears that spun and worked to keep the clock tower running. If he broke free from the webbing a fall like this would undoubtfully kill him, he might be able to grab onto one of the moving gears but there's no guarantee.

On one of the walls in the upper part of the clockwork room there was a door that led to a small walkway bridge that must have been used to inspect and change broken pieces in the upper levels of the clock tower. A cloaked figure pushed the door open slowly and made their way along the walkway as close to Mono and the Collector as they could.

Neither Mono nor The Collector noticed the figure until she was on the nearest part. The Collector was the first one to notice and was about to speak before the figure lifted up a lighter and a little paper ball that she lit. The kid then threw the ball just as quickly and sailed thru the air touching the Collectors greasy hair, easily catching her hair on fire.

The Collector screaming out thrashing erratically knocking Mono free from the thread that held him upside down. The fire was spreading around erratically as it caught onto the black webs. Mono fell from his place on the ceiling and would have went splat on the floor if his Hands hadn't rushed out of his coat and grabbed onto the moving gears. They dragged him up until he got his own grip and footing on the moving gears.

By now all the walls were on fire and the fire was very quickly reaching where Six had been webbed. The Collector had been knocking around gears and spreading the flames in her panic and the Clock Tower was showing signs of beginning to fall apart.

Mono peered down the long drop and saw Six struggling as the flames grew closer to her.

"Okay Mono, you can do this, just jump." Mono said to himself, trying to sike himself up.

Why jump though? Six could free herself, sure she might get burned but he knew she could survive. He hated her, he didn't believe a single word or promise that comes out of her mouth, but for some reason he just couldn't bring himself to let her get hurt if there was something he could do about it. He didn't like her, he didn't want to be by her, he didn't feel safe with her around, but then why, why couldn't he bring himself to just get rid of her or at the very least just let her suffer a little. Very quickly Mono dismissed these thoughts from his head.

"Are you really having these thoughts now of all times? You know I keep telling you to just go back home, you aren't like the other Vice's children. Face it kid, your soft. And while I want to kill the other Vices, I at least know I need a host that can get the job done for me. Look at you, dangling from a clockwork gear like a scared child exactly like when you were in the Signal Tower watching your past self-kidnap her while you hid under a table. You might be stronger; you might have good intentions but at the end of the day your still just the same scared little kid who can't do the job you set yourself out to do." Sloth said.

Mono's hands clenched in anger and sadness. Anger for the harsh words that Sloth had spoken to him. Sadness because it was all true. Maybe he wasn't ready, maybe he never would be. He was never like the other children. All he ever wanted was to make some friends and live happily with those who would accept him. He's smashed the bullies because he had to and they weren't even real people, but he's never actually killed another living being, at least not of his own volition. There was the Hunter that he had pulled the trigger on at Six's insistence. The act still traumatized him at time's but unlike the Hunter, whatever he killed out here, outside the loop, would stay dead forever, no do overs.

"Listen forget about having to kill things for a moment. You can't even make a jump like this, much less kill something that resembles a human. Let's just ditch the girl and go home, hopefully the fire will take out Gluttony's kid long enough for you to get home out of her smell distance." Sloth said.

It was at that moment that the words of Sloth suddenly clicked for Mono. What should have brought him down, had in fact brought him to a realization. Sloth was right, he had to forget about the fact that he didn't like killing. Right now, he was too scared to even make a jump. And that's where it suddenly stuck out for him.

"Your right Sloth, maybe I'm not fit for this, not fit for killing. I'm terrified of hurting people; it makes me think about how I would feel if I were in someone else's position. Is it really so wrong to not want to see people in pain. What I'm trying to say is, I'll always be scared of killing people Sloth, but right now it's not about killing someone, it's about saving someone, even if they betrayed me, even if I don't believe a single word that comes out of her mouth, I just don't want anyone to suffer. So that's why it's time for me to man up and just JUMP!" Mono said throwing himself from the gear and down the long fall.

"YOU STUPID IDIOT! THERE'S NO TV DOWN THERE, HOW ARE YOU GONNA BREAK YOUR FALL!" Sloth screamed.

The Hands he had gotten from Sloth rushed from his coat once more. Latching onto the burning wall of webs. The burning sensation that the Hands felts was transferred to his actual hands. He had used the Hands to bring him closer to the burning wall, or at least to a section that was not completely on fire. When he actually grabbed onto the burning wall he could feel the skin on his hands burning and the sweat of his brow flowing. The pup in his pocket burrowing deeper into the pocket. The webbing he had grabbed onto was dried out and no longer sticky but had just as quickly gave way under his weight as he fell down the rest of the way.

The good news was that his initial fall had brought him down more than halfway down. The bad news was that he had hit his head pretty hard. He the got up rather groggily. His head was spinning, and smoke and smog were beginning to fill the room making it hard to breath.

He turned around and saw Six struggling on the wall. He was about to get her out of the webbing before there was a crash behind him. The Collector had been burning and now looked even worse than she had looked at first.

"I'm going to kill you and your friend, if you hadn't come here, my collection wouldn't have been RUINED!" She screamed.

Mono didn't have time for this, the building was burning, gears, nuts, bolts and parts of the building were starting to come down. Both of Mono's hands lit up with static and he warped reality to bend the gears and beams around the Collector trapping her in place long enough for him to at least get Six out. He fell down because he was starting to grow tired.

Mono's vision was hazy and he saw multiple images of things around him. His head was spinning as he stood up shakily. Out of the corner of his eye a figure approached him. At first, he thought it was Six but even with his vision messed up he could tell it wasn't Six. His vision slowly came into focus and he could finally see that it was a kid or at least he thought it was. He couldn't tell with their face covered. The figure approached him and reached out, for what Mono assumed was to help him, but instead they reached into his coat, pulling out the things he kept within. The Hands no longer came out, for what Mono could only assume was because of his current bodily state. He couldn't put up any resistance. The best he could do was reach into their pocket on accident and grabbing onto something he felt in there, putting it in his own.

They looked thru his journal before dropping it to the floor haphazardly, ration bars didn't seem to interest them, the only thing that did though was the camera. The glowing eyes underneath the cloth looked pleased before taking one last look at Mono and disappearing.

Slowly standing up Mono was pretty sure he had broken something, his vision fading in and out now that he irritated some wound he had yet to notice. Slowly he trudged over to where Six was webbed and tore the webbing from her face and then her hands. Six then did the rest and used her claws to tears herself free. She looked angry and ready to fight but the only thing she could see in the room was a Collector trapped in place.

She let out a small gasp as she touched the right temple of Mono's head, blood was seeping from a wound on his head.

"I-I t-think I'm just gonna take a quick nap." Mon said finally dropping down.

Six cradled Mono's head but as she did so her eyes kept focusing back to the wound on his head, kept focusing on the blood. She felt her mouth beginning to water again. Her head bowed lower and lower and then her tongue reached out slowly and tentatively licked the blood from his head.

"It's delicious!" her thoughts screamed as she continued to lap up more of Mono's blood. Her mind was becoming hazier and the only thing to break her from her thoughts was the small bark of the pup digging itself out of Mono's coat staring at Six.

Broken from her train of thought Six finally realized what she had been doing. The situation could have very well spiraled into her eating him. She could now hear the growls coming from her stomach.

"Not again!" She said as she began to clutch her stomach again. She had to eat something!

It was only then that she heard another groan. But it wasn't from her, it wasn't from Mono or the pup. Slowly turning around, she was met with the sight of the Collector who was also previously injured from the fall.

"T-those stupid kids! I'll make them pay for what they did to me." She groaned out, unable to stand up. It was only then that the Collector realized that Six was now standing over her with a emotionless expression.

Before the Collector could utter another word Six roughly grabbed the Collectors throat.

"Did you have fun with Mono?" She asked the Collector but heard only gargled choking sounds.

"You hurt him a lot, you hurt MY Mono." Six growled out squeezing harder.

"Look at you, so useless, hopefully I'll be able to salvage something from you." Six said before opening her mouth and biting a chunk of flesh out of the Collectors throat.

The Collector was trying to resist, pushing at Six but her strength and life were already leaving her. Eventually Six stood up wiping her mouth from her meal, a familiar feeling of power coursing thru her albeit smaller then when she first got the Lady's powers. Dark power coalesced from a fog into a sticky solid. Dark strands of webbing now forming. With a flick of her hand the strand shot off and stuck to the wall.

She then ran to Mono and picked him up, slinging him over her back. She then crashed thru the clocks glass face using webbing to climb down quickly as the tower began to crumble.

An hour later Mono woke up from his slumber. When he woke up, he saw Six's face looming over his which did startle him.

"AAhh!" Mono yelled sitting up. Hitting both his and Six's heads together.

After the pain went away Mono apologized for freaking out.

"Sorry about, you know, freaking out when I woke up and saw you. I'm just not used to seeing people in my face when I wake up. Why were you so close to my face by the way?" Mono asked

"I was just checking your head; you had a nasty wound when you crashed down with the Collector." Six said turning away to hide her face.

"By the way did you see some other kid like us? They kinda took my camera, they dropped a lighter when they were digging thru my pockets." Mono said.

Six snatched the lighter from Mono's hands quickly bringing it close to her nose and taking a long sniff.

"It's probably the girl from earlier. She must hold onto this lighter a lot by how strong the scent is on something that's plastic and not cloth." Six though

She said nothing to Mono though, she knew how he was, he would try to make friends with the other teen. Had it been another teen that was a boy, Six would still have hated them, but being that she knew that it was probably the girl she saw outside the Clock Tower, she was even less inclined to let Mono make friends with another girl. They left the little room that Six had managed to carry Mono too and walked thru the streets again once more began their journey into the city. They took many twists and turns as Six led them thru the city in pursuit of the kid that had taken Mono's camera.

Eventually they came into a more deserted part of the city before arriving in front of a house that looked out of place when you take into account that the other surrounding buildings were much larger apartments, stores or industrial buildings.

"The kid that took your camera should be here. You stay here and keep watch. I'll go get your things back." Six said.

"Uh, but I thinks it's fine if we both go, I think it'll be safer if we stick together." Mono said.

"I said stay here!" Six said irritated. The sudden sharp turn in voice and attitude made Mono almost jump. Seeing this Six felt immediate regret in her heart.

"I'm sorry. Listen Mono, I just want you to stay here just in case the kid tries to run out." Six explained.

Of course, this was not her intention. She had every intention of eating the girl. She wasn't sure why, but the girl just rubbed her the wrong way.

"Ok then, I'll stay here, just be careful I guess." Mono said sitting down by the doorway.

After Six had walked into the building Mono just sighed to himself.

"I'll never understand that girl." Mono said.

Meanwhile inside the house Six was walking around cautiously while sniffing around she made her way up a set of stairs. Her eyes adjusted well to the darkness. She saw movement to her right; down the hall she saw the feet of the girl she was chasing and darted after her. Almost immediately when she crossed the doorway Six tripped a very thin wire which caused two things to happen. First a bucket of black sticky substance fell on her from above the doorway. The second was that a fan was on the side that turned on and blew a bunch of pillow feathers at her. Effectively tar and feathering her, needless to say Six was not amused.

Again, she saw the figure of the girl looking at her, peering around the corner, laughing mockingly. This only succeeded in enraging Six further. Racing after the figure once more, Six showed that in her anger she hadn't learned from her previous ordeal and ended up falling over on some well-placed marbles.

"I'm gonna rip out her throat when I get my hands on that little-"Six growled out while picking herself up. She saw that the room she had entered was a closet, empty with no way of escape, but no one was here. Very quickly she turned around to see the girl smirking at her once more before the door was slammed shut.

Outside of the closet the girl that Six had been chasing was silently chickling to herself at how easy it was to trick the yellow girl. That chuckling was halted by a hand with extremely sharp nails bursting thru the closet door.

Meanwhile Outside

Mono was minding his own business when he felt a tap on his shoulder. Turning around he saw the kid from earlier standing a few feet away from him with hands behind their back watching him.

"Hey! Uh….Well first I guess, thanks for earlier at the Clock Tower, I probably would have been done for if you hadn't helped out." Mono said.

The figure only continued to look at Mono tilting their head to the side, looking at him in confusion. When the kid said nothing Mono could only awkwardly continue talking.

"Ummm..Yeah so you took my camera, which I kind of need, so I was wondering if I could get that back if it's not too much trouble." Mono asked.

The only part of the kid face that Mono could see was the bottom half, the kid only showed Mono a smile before sprinting up the stairs behind her.

Mono chased after her passing a puddle of black goo and feathers on the floor before coming upon a scene of Six on top of the kid looking like she was going to throttle the kid or at least he thought so, he couldn't tell with her back to him. There was a broken door that looked like Six had smashed thru.

A few moments before Mono appeared.

The kid didn't expect Six to smash thru the door. Even less expected was Six then jumping thru that hole bursting the hole even wider. Six's hands immediately curled around the collar of the clothing. A small growl could be heard rumbling in her throat. The girl's hands tried to reach for the cloth around her head but Six was quicker and grabbed both arms slamming them down to the floor.

Six said nothing as she opened her mouth ready to bite down on the girls throat but paused with eyes wide when she heard a voice.

"Six? Why do you look like a chicken?" Mono asked

Six slowly backed her mouth away from the girls throat before composing herself.

"This kid was playing tricks on me but I finally caught her." Six said still holding the kid down.

"You can let her up. I mean I want my camera back but I'm not gonna kill someone for a camera Six." Mono said walking closer to the two.

Mono patted Six's shoulder to get her off of the kid.

He couldn't see much of the kid's face but they were around Six's height. Glowing yellow eyes focused on him from behind a black cloth blindfold. On the kids head was a black embroidered cap similar to the mail carrier cap that Mono used to own when he was younger. The hat still seemed a tad to big for the kid though. They wore a black trench coat that was almost similar to Mono's and it could be seen that under the unbuttoned coat they wore a male school uniform that consisted of a black gakuran with gold buttons and red hems with the matching pants and shoes. Their hair was ash grey, borderline almost silver if Mono had to take a guess.

Taking all these looks and the way the kid dressed Mono immediately came to the conclusion (a wrong conclusion mind you) that the kid was a boy like him.

Mono held his hand out to help the boy up who only stared at Mono for a second seeming to be confused before getting up on their own, still staring at Mono like he was something out of the ordinary.

"Oh yeah, we found you thanks to this lighter you dropped at the tower." Mono said fishing out the lighter from his pocket and preparing to hand it to the kid. The fellow teen seeing the lighter held out their hand, hurriedly but also extremely confused.

Atla's POV

She was confused, and rightfully so. She took a pretty neat camera from him but here he was just handing back her lighter to her. She wasn't sure if he was trying to trick her or if he really was just that naïve. She had been watching him since she first saw him walking around the city. He might have been able to trick the adults but to her he stuck out like a sore thumb. What she had been eyeing that camera of his the entire time.

Someone as nice as him never made it far in this world in this world. In fact, she had initially thought that the girl in yellow that was chasing was going to kill him at first. The raincoat wearing girl was definitely capable of it from what she saw. But here he was, returning her favorite lighter to her without even holding it from her unless she returned the camera.

Right as she was about to reclaim her lighter the girl in the yellow raincoat snatched the lighter out of his hand and kept it from her.

"Were here to get your camera back remember?!" Six said looking at her.

"I'm sure he was gonna give it back…probably." Mono said.

The thought of returning the camera never crossed her mind but considering the fact that she was almost eaten by the girl across from her, she reluctantly reconsidered but stared down the girl as well before begrudgingly digging into a satchel she kept in her coat and pulling out the camera.

Their hands came closer together both making a trade at the same time with a hand off.

The Mansion suddenly shook causing the camera and lighter to clatter to the floor. All three heads turning towards the sound of the crash.

Chapter 8: A introduction of Sorts and a Vice Reunion
