Once upon a time, there was a group of children called upon to save the Digital world. They were young, mostly preteens, and it felt controversial but Genkai insisted it was the thing to do, and he was the one with the knowledge about the real world, and what needed to be done, so it was allowed. These children saved the world and grew as people in the meanwhile, becoming courageous, independent, and determined creatures whose metamorphosis was rather impressive watching from a distance.

But strife and the Digiworld go hand in and hand and it wasn't long before Genkai determined another group of children were needed- these children at least had the luxury of going home every night, and weren't just trapped in a strange place with no chance of seeing their families. With Myotismon's dark influence on the world gone for good, it was assumed they'd never need to do this again, risk innocent children for these means.

Things are never as easy as we hope, however, and Luke finds himself in charge of defending the Digiworld, Genkai eventually handing over the reigns as his data fades slowly from existence. Things were beginning to spread, darkness slowly infiltrating parts of the world where it hadn't before. Digimon were getting deleted so quickly that the rebirth system was overrun and, eventually, crashed entirely, leaving massive amounts of data to fill the Ocean in ways that spelled disaster if allowed to continue unchecked.

So new Digidestined were required, but Luke didn't want to risk more children. So he aimed a little higher, a little older, with more experience but no less of a nomadic lifestyle. He turned to pro wrestling, and for the most part, the group he selected did very well. People came and went, as expected from the Digiworld, but he felt confident in wat they were accomplishing, every small step bringing them a little closer to bringing peace to this world, or some facsimile of it.

It worked well, he thinks, for years, but then the amount of wrestlers leaving WWE over exceeded the list of wrestlers who had the potential to be digidestined, which left Luke with a whole new set of problems as the list of people at his disposal slowly dwindled and began to leave the Digiworld vulnerable.

He rocks back and forth on his heels and tilts his head, staring into the screen. "Tell me more about these other wrestling companies," he says, staring at CM Punk. "AEW, ROH, Impact. I need to know everything."

Punk examines him, it having been a long, long time since Luke contacted him. "Yeah, sure," he says, so much more at ease than he had been the last time they'd talked seven years ago, when Punk, burnt out and sickly, had left wrestling and the digiworld behind for his own health. "What do you want to know?"

As Luke begins to state the more pressing of his questions, a strange sense of excitement swept through him. I'm actually doing this, he thinks with a small smile. It's honestly been a long time coming...
