Another few little snippets of Rowena's life :) I hope you enjoy it
Argument
Rowena stepped between the two men. "Stop this at once, both of you!" she said angrily.
Godric and Salazar looked at Rowena. Though still in her nightdress, the look she gave each of them was enough to make them both look uncomfortable. Though, not uncomfortable enough to make them lower their wands.
"I thought you would agree with me Rowena," Salazar said, his wand still raised and pointing threateningly at Godric who was in a similar stance. "Given what they have done to you."
"Do not try to make me the justification for this insanity," Rowena snapped. "Prejudice has no place in a school, Salazar. You ought to know that."
"It is not prejudiced when it is a fact," Salazar replied angrily. He waved his wand so that a purple light shot out of the tip. Godric made a move to defend himself but Rowena was too quick. In an instant, a blue shimmering shield had appeared between both Professors. The purple spell hit it with such force that the shield shook.
"Go back to bed, Rowena," Godric said. "It is not safe for you to be out here, in your condition."
"Do not patronise her, Godric—"
"Enough, both of you!" Rowena interrupted. She looked at Salazar. "Is this what you would like to teach our students?" she said, turning now to Godric. "That behaving like children is the only way to resolve disagreements?"
"What on earth is happening?" came Helga's voice as she joined them in the Entrance Hall.
Salazar ignored her. "It is more than a disagreement, Rowena. It is a matter of principle, and you all should be on my side."
"You talk such nonsense, Salazar—"
"Enough, Godric," Rowena interrupted, raising her free hand to silence Godric. "I think it best that we sleep on this and return tomorrow morning to discuss whether Salazar is right."
"I agree," Helga said.
Salazar laughed cynically. "What would be the point?" he said. "I know that I am outnumbered already." He took a step back. "I will not stay to watch my school be destroyed. I cannot."
"What about—" Rowena suddenly paled and she reached out to clutch Helga's arm for some much-needed support. "What about the beast?" she asked in a strained voice.
Salazar's eyes met hers and they widened slightly. "When did you find out?"
"O—only tonight," she said, her eyebrows knitting together to form a deep frown. "A chamber of some sorts, hidden in the castle."
Salazar shook his head slowly. "You cannot possibly know..."
"Not where it is," Rowena agreed. "Only that it exists." Her hand clenched Helga's arm a little tighter. "You have put spells to stop me from Seeing where you are keeping it."
"What are you talking—"
"That is correct," Salazar said, interrupting Godric. His eyes were fixated on Rowena's and a slight frown creased his forehead. "It is just as well that I have," he added quietly. He took another step back. "Goodbye, Rowena. I am sorry that we could not have worked together more."
"Salazar, don't!" Helga said.
But Salazar seemed past listening. With his wand gripped in his hand he looked at Rowena and Helga one last time before, just like that, he twisted on the spot and disapparated.
"No!"
Rowena's shield disappeared and Godric's eyes widened at the now empty spot where Salazar had once been occupying.
"Where did—"
"—Helga—"
"—he go?"
"Helga!"
Helga turned to look at Rowena and noticed that her friend's face was pale and contorted in pain as she clutched her enormous stomach. In a manner quite unlike herself, Rowena closed her eyes as she doubled over and whimpered; the baby was coming.
Helena Ravenclaw
Helga sat on the edge of Rowena's bed. "She is beautiful, Rowena," she said softly. "What will you name her?"
Rowena did not immediately look up from the small cot by her bed. She traced her fingers lightly across her baby's small hand and, despite the terrible fear she had felt throughout her pregnancy and the panic she had had knowing that she was with child, Rowena felt a sudden rush of affection towards the little baby sleeping soundly beside her.
"I thought perhaps, Helena," she said quietly, "after my grandmother?"
"Helena Ravenclaw. That is a beautiful name."
Rowena nodded, then closed her eyes and leaned back to rest her head against the wall. All of a sudden she felt terrible sore and terribly tired. All she wanted to do was sleep.
Evidently, Helga had picked up on this. She cleared her throat. "It had been a long day," she began.
"And an even longer night," Rowena murmured.
Helga smiled slightly. "Indeed," she said, leaning in to kiss Rowena on the cheek and then getting up. "I shall leave you both in peace and come back once you have had sufficient rest. The Healer would like to check on you both, then."
Rowena nodded weakly. "Thank you, Helga."
Diadem
Helga entered Rowena's chambers. Her friend was dressed in her usual smart, indigo blue robes. A quill was in her hand, poised over a piece of parchment covered in neat notes.
Helga came to join her at the table.
"Where is Helena?" she asked.
"Sleeping," Rowena replied quietly. She stared at the page she had been writing on for a few more seconds before then sighing and removing her diadem from her head.
Recently, it had become her custom to wear her diadem when she was thinking through a particularly tricky problem. It was an artefact neither Helga nor Godric could quite get their head around; being quite at loss as to how Rowena had managed to create such a powerful item. Though Rowena had tried to explain what she had done, it went quite beyond Godric and Helga's knowledge of that particular branch of magic.
"No luck?" Helga said.
Rowena shook her head. "No," she replied tiredly. She filed her papers away, then rubbed her eyes. "I cannot seem to understand what it means."
"Perhaps it does not mean anything," Helga said.
Rowena did not appear to be listening. "I thought perhaps the vision was about Godric and Salazar," she said thoughtfully. "But the argument happened, and Salazar is gone. I should not be having visions about heated discussions and betrayals anymore. Unless..." she trailed away. "Unless there is still more yet to come."
Helga reached out to hold Rowena's hand. "Have you Seen anything else that may prove your theories as correct?"
Rowena shook her head. "I tend to forget my visions as soon as I have them," she said, standing up smoothly. She began to pace. "I try to write them down but the bits I do remember are of no use to me."
"You remembered the vision about the Hog," Helga said.
Rowena waved her hand carelessly. "An anomaly," she said dismissively.
"Right." Helga glanced down at the haphazard piles of paper full of Rowena's delicate and neat handwriting. "Are these those notes?"
"Yes."
"May I?"
Rowena nodded vaguely and was about to come and sit down again when a baby's unhappy cries pierced the quietness of the room.
"Helena," she stated obviously. "You would not mind if I bring her through?" she added, addressing Helga.
Helga shook her head and smiled. "Of course not, Rowena."
Biscuits
"You and Godric?" Rowena clarified. She quirked an eyebrow at her friend, but not in a judgemental sort of way.
Helga laughed. "You sound surprised."
"Not surprised, more..." Rowena waved her hand vaguely as she struggled to find the word. "I just find the news interesting that is all."
Helga chuckled again and Rowena smiled a little too. Even Helena, who had been sitting beside her mother on the sofa, giggled.
"Well, I am glad it has made this little madam laugh, at least," Helga said, tickling Helena's sides causing the young girl to shriek with delight. "I am afraid you have been looking too serious recently."
Rowena held back a smile as she took another sip of her drink. "You take after me, do you not Helena?"
"Mm." Helena agreed solemnly. Then, she brightened and gave her mother her most winning smile. "More biscuits, mummy? Pwease?"
Rowena picked the last biscuit from a small box she had on her table and handed it to her daughter.
"Thank 'oo."
Helga rest her chin on her cupped hands and smiled. "I hope my children are just as polite as yours, Rowena."
