The Mushroom Kingdom was ruled by two people: the beautiful Princess Peach Toadstool and her father, King Toadstool. Although their rule was questionable, seeing as there seemed no rules and no one was ever sent into the dungeon…if there was a dungeon in the Mushroom Kingdom.
Beside the Mushroom Kingdom was the Koopa Kingdom. Or it was believed to be the Koopa Kingdom, for the King was Bowser Koopa.
Inside the Koopa Kingdom lived koopas, goombas, King Koopa, and his many sons. Queen Koopa…no one liked to talk about what had happened to her. It was never mentioned.
Bowser, despite his many misbehaved sons, was lonely. The poor monster lusted after the princess of his rival land. He believed it was only lust for a long time, until the poor dragon-like koopa realized: he was in love.
He hated it.
He went to her castle, bowing as he should, and asked the guard-toads if he could speak with the fair Peach. His appearance scared the midget toadstool-people, but they agreed as long as they accompanied him.
It didn't go over so well with Peach.
In fact, she ran out screaming in fear of King Koopa.
She couldn't be totally to blame. Her father did tell horrible stories about him. And his appearance was frightening. He looked like a mutant turtle—a huge one—with sharp teeth and spikes on his shell. The beast also breathed fire.
Still, a princess should try to be accepting. And…royal? Yes, royalty seemed like a quality a princess should have.
After the Princess had calmed down, Bowser tried to explain…but how appropriate is it for a large monster to come out of the blue pleading love? Not very. He was ordered away.
And away he was for a while.
But he couldn't take it any longer.
He was so lonely.
The koopa King loved her. It hurt. It hurt how she reacted to him. It hurt how she felt about him. It hurt him so much.
He needed to do something. Anything. And he was desperate.
He stole her.
He sent one of his sons. Somehow the tiny spiked-koopa successfully kidnapped the princess and brought her to his castle.
The koopa had no plan, but did what he had tried before: convincing the princess that he would not hurt her.
As predicted, it didn't work.
And she was sent for.
A short Italian plumber with a bright red hat enters out little tale of the smitten monster and the frightened princess. His name is Mario of the Mario Brothers. He has come to Bowser's castle, fighting through many of the kingdom's inhabitants, to bring Princess Peach to her home.
Bowser was furious.
Instead of confronting Mario and explaining the situation, the behemoth attacked the man in blind rage.
But Mario was faster and more maneuverable. He defeated Bowser and left him injured in his own castle.
And Bowser stole her back some months later.
Mario defeated him once more.
The pattern continues and continues.
Last I heard, Bowser is making a new plan with Daisy's cruise ship.
