A/N: This one is not very long...sorry.
Steve sat on the sofa trying to process the news that was just shared.
He had a son.
A fifteen year old son at that.
The boy who only days stood right in front.
The boy who seemed to be afraid of his own shadow.
Grabbing his hands, he leaned forward and lowered his eyes to the ground as the noise of Tony's protest filled the room. "There is no way," the former playboy announced as he stood and snatched the papers from Bruce's hands. "This is impossible. My parents only had one kid. Me."
"Not according to the DNA. You have a sister, one who is downstairs right now," Bruce said evenly as he watched the man. Tony glared at the man before looking down at the papers in his hand.
Staring at the ground, Steve could feel someone staring at him, but he kept his head down as the face of his son flashed in his mind. The long dirty hair and the haunted look that swelled in his eyes. The way he eyed all of them with distrust. Trying to think back, Steve couldn't help but wonder if the boy had any part of him in there, or did he purely take after his mother.
His mother.
Vanessa.
Standing abruptly, all talking ceased as Steve started to head towards the door.
"Steve where are you going?" Sam called out as everyone watched the first avenger.
Steve didn't answer and he didn't get very far as a man came walking into the room with a purpose.
"Where are you heading Captain?"
"Not now Fury," Steve grumbled as he tried to walk past the man, but Agent Hill blocked his path. Stepping back, Steve raised an eyebrow at them as he noticed more agents behind the first two.
"What's going on?" Rhodes asked as the other Avengers noticed that new presence.
"Okay, let's get straight to the point. You are holding a Hydra agent in the compound somewhere and I need you to turn her over to us. While you're doing that, you can tell me how you failed to report that you had Peter Parker in your custody and how you managed to allow him to escape," Fury announced as he walked further into the room.
"We don't know what you're talking about," Natasha replied.
Fury shared a glance with Agent Hill before looking at all the Avengers in turn. "So you're telling me that Vanessa Foster is not locked up somewhere in this building?"
"What do you want with Vanessa Foster?" Bucky asked as he eyed the man carefully.
"That is official business that my benched team is not privy to."
Steve watched as the man looked around the room, with his one good eye, in a slightly smug manner. It was as if he thought he won the jackpot, or caught a child's hand in the cookie jar. What he wouldn't give to punch that look off that man's face. That's when it suddenly started to make sense for the man who fought in the wars. The way Fury reacted when they mentioned Hydra and how time sensitive it was that they found Peter.
He knew.
Steve unconsciously balled up his fist as he glared at the man with the eye patch. "You know."
Fury's eyes landed on the man as an eyebrow went up. "And what might I know?"
Steve stepped closer to the man. "You know that Peter is Vanessa's son, don't you?"
Fury tilted his head at the blond man before shaking his head. "I'm not sure what you're talking about."
"That's crap and you know it. Did you know about me?"
Fury grew quite as Agent Hill looked between the two men in confusion. "What's going on?"
When Fury failed to answer, Steve repeated his question with more force. As if he were in the army and the answer he was wanting was his last life line. Agent Hill jumped at the boom of the man's voice but remained silent but not before casting a worried, yet confused look back at the other Avengers.
Clint, Sam, Bucky and Scott Lang all stood and took a step forward as if they didn't trust their team leader to be reasonable.
Fury looked beyond Steve's shoulder but when the man shifted he brought his eyes back to the furious pool of ocean blue that stared at him. Steve opened his mouth again. "Did you know that Peter Parker is my son? Yes. Or. No?"
A collection of gasps and murmurs filled the room from the newcomers as they all stared at each other in amazement but one look from Steve pushed them into silence. Fury finally responded.
"How would you know that, if you never had Parker in your custody?"
Before Steve could answer, Tony stepped forward. "Did you know that she's apparently my sister?"
Fury's eyes furrowed at that. "No, I wasn't aware of that. That is quite interesting though."
Tony stared at the man with distrust as he stepped back, leaving Steve to deal with the problem at hand. "Have you known the entire time?"
Fury ran a hand down his face as he once again was faced with an endless amount of questions. Throwing a hand up, started talking. "Foster was pregnant when she was finally arrested. We did some simple math to try and figure out when she got pregnant. If the father was normal, we would have dropped the kid off with him, but we realized she got pregnant during her first assignment. We knew this was around the time you both were together. We also found out about Barnes. We couldn't be sure as to who the father was. So we did a DNA test once the kid popped out."
"DNA came back to Peter being your son. Now, we couldn't very well put the child in your care, not with you running around fighting foreign enemies and everything else it is that you did. In addition to that, I think we can both agree that you were not ready to father a child."
Steve stepped into the man's personal space as he dropped his voice to a low whisper. "How the hell would you know what I am and am not capable of?"
Fury dropped his voice low, only allowing Steve to hear. "You forget Rogers, Foster was reporting back everything to me. We both know you were not emotionally stable enough to raise a child." Strapping back, Fury raised his voice to normal. "Besides, think of what would happen if the world found out Steve Rogers, Captain America, had a child. Can you imagine the press that would be all over this? Hell, what about your enemies both foreign and domestic. Peter was better off safe growing up in a normal family."
"No offense, but that wasn't your call to make," Bucky called out reminding Steve that there were others in the room. Steve backed away from Fury as he set a gaze on the agents who were still shell shocked.
Fury lifted a hand and waved away the comment. "Be that as it may, what's done is done. Right now, I need you to hand Vanessa Foster over to me."
"Why?" Scott asked. "By the way, how do you know that Vanessa is here?"
Fury lifted his eyes to the heavens as he prayed for patience. "Because your friendly neighborhood Spiderman told me."
"I'm gonna kill that kid," Tony grumbled.
"Foster, hand her over."
"You still never answered the question as to why."
"She's a Hydra agent. That is grounds in itself." Fury's eyes traveled around the room before he shook his head. Turning to the agents he brought with him, he barked out a command. "Search this place top to bottom. I want her found and brought to me."
The agents looked at one another before they started back towards the door only to stop when a voice rose above the silence. All eyes turned to the redhead who pushed her way through.
"You will do no such thing," Pepper said as she looked into the eyes of every agent as if to tell them she means business. "I'm going to need to see a search warrant."
"I don't need a search warrant. SHIELD owns the building," Fury said as he gave the woman a look.
Not one to be fazed, Pepper walked up and stood next to Steve. "As a matter of fact, you do need a warrant. You are working for a government agency which is seeking to search this building. A building, might I add, has not been turned over to your agency yet. This building used to be a Stark Industries warehouse, therefore this building belongs to Anthony Stark. As the current CEO of Stark Industries, I know for a fact that Mr. Stark has not signed the papers that I left on his desk. In with all those papers is the deed which Mr. Stark was supposed to sign to turn this building over to SHIELD. Since he has yet to do so, this building still belongs to him."
"Now, as I said before. You will need a search warrant, or I can have my lawyers go to every media outlet and inform them of the invasive nature of SHIELD, the possible kidnapping of a child and anything else we can dig up."
Scott let loose a whistle behind all of them as Tony proudly smirked at the man. Pepper took a deep breath before she continued. "Now, I also know for a fact that Mr. Stark did not allow you to come into this building, which is closed off to the public, so we can add trespassing or even breaking and entering to our list of grievances. So I think it would be in your best interest to leave this building. Now."
Fury stared at the woman as his agents looked around. After a few moments of no movement, Pepper pulled out her phone and started to press a button before Agent Hill held up a hand. "It's alright, we're leaving."
"Good decision."
Steve watched as one by one, Fury and his agents left the building. Once the last person left, he turned to the woman. "Thank you."
Pepper waved away the gratitude before looking at her fiancé. "I suspect they won't be gone for long."
Tony nodded in understanding, before turning to the rest of the team. "Not far from where she's held up is a door. It will lead to an underground tunnel, which leads to the forest in the trees. I advise someone to get her out of here. Who the hell knows what they want and I'll be damned if they get her before my questions are answered."
