Spiderman sat on the building on the other side of the street staring at the giant A on the building in front of him. Exhaustion filled every inch of the body under the red, black and blue suit. For days, he spent searching for Savannah and her brothers with no clue in sight. The news and the media never announced their return, and after steakout the police station and his conversation with Captain Stacey, the police still believe they are missing. Throughout those days, he never stopped once to eat or sleep. He needed to find them. He promised to protect them and so far he was failing.

Sitting on the edge, the teenager allowed his feet to dangle over the ledge. The noisy streets of New York sat below him, none the wiser that he was above them. But it wasn't the screeching of the ambulance sirens that caught his attention. It was the eight people standing on the old tower staring at him.

The Avengers. Well some of them. As if they knew they had his attention, Ant-man lifted a hand and waved him over.

Spiderman almost stood and went but the boy underneath froze when his eyes landed on the man standing in the middle, the one who stood there as if his presence alone commanded attention. The red, white and blue uniform stood proudly against the backdrop of the sunset. All that was missing was the red, white and blue of the American flag. Underneath the mask and the uniform was the man who was part of the reason for his existence.

They don't know who you are, his brain reminded him.

Releasing a sigh, Spiderman heaved himself up before shooting a web and swinging to the other building. When he landed he turned and faced the minor crowd.

"Well, to what do I owe this pleasure?" he asked as he stared at them. His eyes lingered on Captain America before moving on to the others.

"We need you to come with us. You're in danger," the Falcon explained.

Spiderman allowed a snort to escape his mouth. "No offense guys but I'm always in danger. You should know that better than anyone. I'm Spiderman, the 'vigilante'. The police are after me for you know, the whole Foster Seven thing. So, you see, always in danger."

Everyone remained silent as they seemed to process what was said. It was Ant-man who spoke up. "Hey, so you remember not long ago, you know when you were in the hospital bed and we talked?"

"Yeah, and I believe that during that time, you promised to keep Peter safe and watch out for him. We see how that turned out."

Ant-man cleared his throat as he ran a hand across the back of his neck. "Right, about that…"

"Forget it. Peter is safe now, so no need to worry. Besides, I'm a forgiving person."

"Ah, yeah. That's good to hear, but you remember how I mentioned the people that were after Peter?"

"Yeah. The bad one."

"Yeah, exactly. Well they're now after you, and we need you to come with us."

Spiderman shook his head. "No offense but I don't really think that's a good idea. I mean think about it, let's say I come with you. I would be putting my safety and literally my life in your hands. Now, how can I trust that you are going to keep me safe if you can't even keep a teenager secured in your compound?"

The Avengers shared a look. The kid was right. They couldn't deny it.

"So as much as I appreciate it, I am going to have to decline." Spiderman lifted his shoulders into a shrug as he tilted his head slightly.

"Listen kid," Iron Man said as he allowed his helmet to fall back and reveal Tony Stark. "We don't have time for this, okay. Some of us have had a really bad day and your resistance is only making it worse."

Spiderman frowned at the tone the man was using. "Right, well I'm sorry to hear that but I've got to go. You know Spidermaning and all that."

With that, Spiderman turned and started to walk towards the edge of the roof where he would jump but the one person he didn't want to speak finally spoke. "Wait."

Spiderman silently cursed as his body followed the command. He slowly turned around to see Captain America step forward. He opened his mouth but before any words were able to be formed Spiderman lifted a hand to stop him. "If this is about Peter...he's uh...safe."

Captain America stared at him calmly before nodding slowly. "Are you sure about that?"

"Uh...yeah."

"Really you don't sound so sure," Black Widow announced as she took a step forward.

"Well, I mean physically he's fine."

The air rushed between them while Steve frowned. "Just physically? What does that mean?"

"Ah, nothing, listen, I've got to go."

"No. Hang on. What do you mean?"

Spiderman rubbed the back of his neck as he shuffled his feet and stared at the ground. No words were passed between them. When someone did speak it wasn't who he expected. War Machine stepped forward and spoke. "He knows."

"Uh..knows what?"

The lightbulb went off in Tony's head as he realized what the words were saying. "You paid a visit to Fury, that's how he knew we had Vanessa Foster in our custody. He told you about Peter's biological parents didn't he?"

"Yeah," Spiderman mumbled.

"And you told Peter," Hawkeye concluded.

"Yeah, he had a right to know," Spiderman blurted out defensively.

All the adults shared another look which Spiderman was starting to find annoying. It was like when he was a kid and he was at the table eating and Ben and May would have a silent conversation over his head. When he would ask about it, they would smile at him kindly before announcing it was grown-folk business and it was not for a child to know.

Spiderman was no longer that seven year old boy who was pushed aside. He's practically an adult and has proven that by being on his since May died. "Is there anything else? Like I said, I've got to go."

All heads snapped towards the teen as if they forgot he was there during their silent conversation. When nobody spoke for two seconds, Spiderman nodded and started towards the edge only to be stopped by the voice for Captain America.

"You said he was physically fine. What about-"

"Mentally?" Spiderman finished as he turned back around and stared into the eyes of the man. When the older man nodded, Spiderman snorted as the boy under the mask dug deep down inside himself before he answered. "He's...uh...confused mostly. He wants answers but can't get them. I'm supposed to be trying to figure them out...for him, but I got other stuff going on right now."

Captain America opened his mouth again but Hawkeye laid a hand on his shoulder as if that was supposed to pull him back to the situation at hand.

"As mentioned before," Hawkeye started. "We need you to come with us."

"I already said no. I swear it's like you guys don't know what that word means."

"We do, but we're not taking no for an answer," Winter Soldier finally spoke. "We would prefer you come with us willingly but we will use force if need be."

Spiderman stared at all of them before shaking his head. "I can take care of myself. Thanks though."

Tony shook his head. "Not a chance kid. First and foremost, once again, dangerous people after you. Not to mention, your ribs are showing again and my fiance would kill me if she knew I saw you in this state and allowed you to leave. So as you can see you don't have a choice."

"People always have a choice. Just because they're not the choices you like doesn't make them any less-"

"Save the moral speech for the popsicle." Tony said as he waved a hand towards Captain America. Captain America sent the man a look before turning back to Spiderman. "He has a point though. You're in danger and I cannot in good conscience allow you to leave without making sure you're safe."

"I'm fine."

"Spidey, the people we mentioned who are after you killed a man," Ant-Man said.

"Lang!" The others shouted.

"What?! He needed to know the seriousness of this."

An argument broke out and soon all the attention was on the secret revealing Avenger. Spiderman stood there for a few minutes before he realized that he no longer had their attention. Rolling his eyes, he walked on the ledge and jumped. Gravity took over as he allowed his body to fall towards the hot concrete of the New York streets. At the last second, he shot a web and allowed it to attach to a pole. Using the momentum, he swung in a wide arch before releasing his web.

The hot air whistled past him but it was the whirling of metal that caught his attention. Looking towards the sky, he was greeted with three flying metal beings. War Machine, Falcon and Iron Man. They all stared down at him as he shot another web and allowed himself to be taken to the nearest statue where he perched and stared at them.

"Come on kid, the last thing we need is for this to turn into something more than it needs to," the metallic voice of Iron Man announced as he stared down at the teenager. Spiderman shook his head before lifting an arm and aiming it at the red and gold machine.

"Don't even think about it." The silent threat roared loud as the machine flew up slightly. Spiderman followed it with his arm. "It took me forever to get that stuff off."

"Leave me alone and I won't hit you with it," Spiderman reasoned.

"Not a chance kiddo, you have to come with us," Falcon added.

Lifting his other arm, Spiderman shot two webs in their direction. All three gave a shout before they flew out of the line of fire. Not wasting time, Spiderman shot a web to the nearest structure and started swinging away.

"He's on the move," someone shouted.

Spiderman turned back to see the rest of the Avengers on the ground, running after him. Spiderman's spidey senses started faintly buzzing as he turned forward just as a wall smacked into him. Releasing the web, he used his hands to stick to the brick. Pain radiated throughout his body as he gritted his teeth to prevent crying out.

"You okay kid?" someone called. Not stopping to figure out who it was that said it, Spiderman started climbing towards the roof only to stop when the three flying musketeers blocked his path. Looking down, he noticed that the Avengers were still running to catch up. Taking a chance, he released his grip and followed gravity to the ground. Landing on his feet, he took off in a run.

People on the street shouted and jumped out of the way as he passed. Coming to a clear area, Spiderman shot a web at an awning and started swinging. He repeated the action over and over. Just as he shot another web, a high pitched whistle blasted through the air just as Spiderman watched an arrow slice through his web.

Once again gravity punched Spiderman in the stomach and pushed him back towards earth as if to tell him that is where he needed to stay. Spiderman flipped over in order to shoot another web when he saw the ground rushing at him. In an instinct reaction, he brought his hands up to brace his fall. As he waited for the impact an arm wrapped around his waist and he was being lifted in the air again as the ground grew smaller.

Turning his head, he came face to side face with the Falcon. Adrenaline, even just a little bit, shot through the teen as he started squirming.

"Knock it off, kid," Falcon ordered as he tried to keep his hold on the boy. Not one to follow orders, Spiderman twisted just far enough to rear back and land a punch straight into the man's face. Falcon howled as he brought his hands up to shield his face, dropping Spiderman at the same time. Not wasting any time, he shot a web at whatever solid structure was around and started swinging.

The cat and mouse game continued well into the heart of NewYork. The spectators stood around watching in amazement as some even caught the action on their phones. No doubt the footage would grace the tv near you.

Spiderman ran across a roof making sure he kept an eye on his predators. He came to an edge and jumped. Lifting his arm, and shot a web. The white jetted out from his web shooters only to fall short from their target. He tried again but got the same result. Frustration filled the boy as he realized he was running out. Looking up, he once again saw the ground coming at him, but before he could reach it a metal hand wrapped around his wrist and allowed him to dangle.

Looking up, Spiderman was greeted by red and gold. Iron Man deposited Spiderman on the ground before taking flight immediately as if he were expecting to get hit with webs again or punched. Looking up, he saw the three machines flying just above. On the ground, the rest of the Avengers broke through, only this time, it was just two of them.

Captain America and the Winter Soldier.

With the shake of his head, Spiderman started running into the long streets of New York. There would be no way he can outrun the Avengers. Not with three of them in the sky, two on the ground and three still missing.

As he ran his spidey sense started humming slightly. Not enough to warn him of danger but enough for him to notice. The tingling and humming started on his shoulder before venturing to his ear. Not missing a step he swatted at his ear.

"Hey watch out!" a voice screamed causing the teen to come to a halt and look around. Everyone stood staring at him, waiting to see what he would do. Captain America and the Winter Soldier burst through the crowd and came to a halt. "Whew, that was close." the voice announced again. Spiderman whipped his head around again but found nobody.

"Alright, let's calm down."

Spiderman stood still and begged for his spidey sense to tell him where the voice was coming from. As he stood there, Captain America stepped forward keeping his eyes on the teenager.

"Alright son, what do you say we stop this now?" he asked.

Spiderman didn't acknowledge him as he looked around again trying to find the source of the voice. His spidey senses hummed at his ear before dropping down to his shoulder. Before he could react the bottom of his mask started to lift. Reacting immediately his brain finally caught up to him and understood why his senses were going off.

Ant-Man.

Bringing a hand up, Spiderman started swiping at his shoulder and neck. At first nothing happened until he felt his hand connect with something small and hard. A shout of surprise filled his ear before it slowly started growing further away. The bottom of his mask snapped back in place just as Ant-Man appeared in his normal size, just in time for him to land on the sidewalk.

"Spiderman," Captain America called out but before he could say anything else, the teen took off running. His senses were going off all over the place as the loud New York streets blared at him. Sending a drummer's solo throughout his head. Not knowing where he was going, his feet started to take him to the one place he knew he would be safe.

He rounded the corner of a building where he found himself in an alley. Sending a silent prayer to whoever was listening, he shot one more web. He almost cried out in glee when it attached to the metal fire escape but his victory was short lived when he watched the web get cut by the wings of the falcon.

He only made it halfway off the ground when he found himself falling again. Spiderman fully expected to feel the hard ground but was surprised when he landed in a pair of arms. The arms placed him on his feet but when he tried to pull away, they held on tight. Not looking, he threw an arm back but it was caught. The arms wrapped around his body, locking his arms at his sides while a breath blew past his ear.

"Calm down," the voice ordered. A voice Spiderman and the boy under the mask knew all too well.

Captain America.

Spiderman started trying to wiggle out of his arms and much to his surprise was able to move slightly before the former war captain adjusted his grip, locking him in place once more.

"Spiderman, I need you to calm down. We're not trying to hurt you. We want to help."

"Could've...fooled...ME!" Spiderman roared as he wiggled and jiggled in the arms. Every once in a while the Captain would lose his grip but never enough for Spiderman to get free.

"Just breathe," Captain America soothed.

"You breathe!" Spiderman retorted as he huffed and puffed, adrenaline was pouring on him and he had nothing to do with it. No place to put it. He was frozen, while the drummer's song started reaching its climax in his head. The teenager roared again as if that would somehow help him get away from the man who had him locked in a vice grip.

His head felt like it was going to split open as the exhaustion he was once feeling started slowly coming back. Spiderman allowed his body to slump and Captain America released his grip slightly. Using that moment, Spiderman shot out in hopes of getting away. He managed to clear one arm before he was wrapped back up. "Come on son, calm down," Captain America responded. His voice never raised above his normal octave. It was as if he had all the time in the world.

Someone else on the other hand didn't. "We don't have time for this," Winter Soldier announced as he strolled purposely up to where Spiderman was being held.

"Bucky, what are you doing?!" Captain America shouted, sending a shooting pain through the boy's head. When no answer was given, Spiderman looked up just in time to see a metal fist coming straight at him just as the drum solo ended. Bright lights flashed across the boy's eyes before darkness took over.
