Chapter 5.-Getting to know each other
Bex kept her promise and went to pick up Andi from school after school, they went for pizza and then they met at the vintage clothing store that Bex took Andi the first time to cheer her up after the Bowie incident.
"how do you feel?" Bex asked her as they both walked around the store and checked out the different clothes.
"Honestly, like deja vu," Andi commented. "I hadn't come to this place for months, I remember the first time you brought me was to cheer me up after Bowie left and now... I feel like you do it to cheer me up for everything that happened with Jonah Beck"
"Well, like I told you the other day, I'll always be there for you" Bex told her daughter with a smile. "I actually have an idea"
"Another one?" Andi asked curiously. "I thought this was your idea"
"Yeah, but this one is better," Bex told her.. "Okay, here's what you do; act as if he isn't there"
"But he is there" Andi tried to reason with her mom.
"You´re missing the important part of that sentence: "act as if" Bex repeated. "Think of it like I´m giving you an acting challenge. pretend you´re Anne Hathaway"
"Not Anne Hathaway," Andi begged.
"Why not Anne Hathaway?" Bex wanted to know.
"She's too talented," Andi confessed. "This is my first acting challenge"
"This scenario we´re imagining, it isn't real" Bex chidded. "it's actually a play. And you´re the star. Andi Mack is, "Girl who is Totally over him" then she cheers silently.
"Yeah, I see myself more in the supporting role of "Girl sobbing in the bathroom stall" Andi whispers sadly.
"Hey, listen. "Act as if" really works" Bex advises. "I know from personal experience"
"When have you ever had to act as if?" Andi asks as she stops looking at the clothes and looks at her mother with interest.
"Lots of times" Bex commented. "In fact, I plan to do it, when I meet Bowie in the street; I plan to "act as if" I don't know he's dating the doctor of plantology"
"You sound so easy, but I really don't think I can," Andi said. "And when I try to act as if he isn't there, he still haunts me like a ghost."
You're right, it was a terrible idea" Bex said.
"Totally," Andi agreed and they both laughed. "but I give you a ten for the effort"
"Aww, you're so sweet," Bex said, smiling at her beautiful daughter. "How about we try on the clothes and do our own fashion show?"
"I definitely like that idea much better," said Andi with a big smile.
"Come on" Bex told her and the two went to pick out different outfits to try on.
Andi and Bex went to try on different outfits: dresses, skirts, pants, tops, hats, sneakers, boots, sunglasses and pretended they were walking a fashion show, feeling supermodel for a day, and Andi was finally able to have fun with her mom forgetting the drama with Jonah Beck.

After trying on the clothes, mother and daughter were completely exhausted but laughed.
"That was amazing," Andi said, putting the sunglasses on her head. "I've never had so much fun shopping"
"Neither do I, but we should do it more often," Bex told her. "Well, do you know what you're taking?"
"Absolutely," Andi said. "I love this dress," she added, spinning around.
On the other hand, Billy was entering the same clothing store and saw in the distance a girl wearing a beautiful summer dress and dark glasses on her head, laughing with an adult woman, but he noticed a scarf on the floor, so he bent down to pick it up.
"Wait..." Andi said, touching her neck. "my scarf is gone"
"How come your scarf is gone?" Bex asked her. "you brought her a while ago before we tried on the clothes"
"Maybe…I left her in the dressing room," Andi said. "I'll go get it, I can't lose it. CeCe knitted it for me"
"Hi" Billy said walking over to Andi and Bex looked at her daughter. "um...you dropped this," he added, handing her the scarf.
"Thanks" Andi said, taking the scarf.
"Hey Jonah," Bex greeted with a smile. "I'm surprised to see you here, I didn't think you would like to go shopping"
"Mom…" Andi asked Bex.
"You know what? I saw a fabulous jean jacket and I'm going to try it on" Bex said. "Have fun" she turned around and walked away.
"Sorry about that," Andi said. "Wait, I know who you are. Your name is Billy, right?"
"Yes, I'm Billy, Billy Batson" Billy told her with a smile as both teens shook hands..
"Andi Mack" Andi says with a smile. "but just call me Andi"
"and you can call me Billy," Billy says. "By the way, how did you manage to recognize me?"
"It's easy, even though you and...you know who have the same face...I could recognize you because your backpack has a tiger in front of it and you went to see if I was okay, you were very sweet to me" Andi told him. "And you didn't have to because I don't know you well enough, but thank you"
"I didn't like seeing you sad, much less because of a stupid guy" said Billy. "I'm sorry if I freaked you out a while ago, I didn't mean to"
"Don't worry, you were nervous" Andi told him. "we can start from scratch if you want"
"I´d like that" Billy nodded smiling and showed his dimples, Andi couldn't help but blush. "what" added Billy.
"You have a nice smile" Andi told him and now it was Billy who blushed.
and you look pretty with that dress and the sunglasses on your head" Billy told her. "I like that style"
"Thank you," Andi says smiling.
"If it's okay with you, I'd like to get to know you better so…I don't know maybe…you want to go to the park and sit on the swings" Billy said shyly.
Sounds great" Andi said smiling.
"really?" Billy was surprised, a very pretty girl had agreed to go out with him.
"Yeah, really," Andi told him. "But I can't get on the swings in a dress, if you want, wait here while I go change"
"Sure, I'll wait for you here" Billy told her, just as Andi was going to change, she noticed that Jonah was also entering the clothing store.
"oh no, oh no" Andi whispered. "What is he doing here?" why now?"
"What's wrong? Are you okay?" Billy asked, looking at her with concern.
"He's here" Andi whispered.
"who?" Billy asked.
"Jonah, you know…the guy who looks just like you," Andi explained.
"Oh," Billy said.
"Don't let him see you," Andi asked.
"Don't worry, I'll hide in the dressing room" suggested Billy.
"good idea, and I'll let you know when the danger is over"
"Okay" Billy agreed and went to hide inside the dressing room.
Andi took a deep breath and went to confront Billy's identical twin, who was her former flame.
"Jonah…not now please" Andi said sadly. "I need my space"
"I just came to give you this, '' Jonah said sadly and handed over her phone. "you forgot at school"
"Thanks," Andi said, taking her cell phone. "Well... I'd better go"
"Andi, why are you avoiding me?" Jonah wanted to know. "I want everything to go back to the way it was before"
I don't think that's possible" Andi said sadly. "I need to get ahead and you only complicate it"
In the distance Billy, who was hiding in the dressing room, opened the curtain a crack and discovered a boy talking to Andi, but that boy looked identical to him, it was Jonah Beck, the guy who had broken Andi's heart.
"Holy moly, he does look like me" Billy whispers shocked.
I won't go down without a fight" Jonah answered, Andi was confused. What did he mean by that? "Cool, I'll try this jacket on," he added with a smile and took a jacket from the hook.
"No wait! Don't go to the dressing room!" Andi told him as she ran to stand in front of him.
"why not?" Jonah said, confused.
"Because...well...because..." Andi started to stutter.
"Don't worry, I'll just try on the jacket" Jonah said, acting casual.
"Uh oh" Andi said in shock as she saw Jonah walking towards the dressing room where his lost identical twin was hiding.
Billy saw that his twin was going to go into the dressing room where he was hiding, so he decided to transform into his adult superhero version and put a raincoat on.
"Oh god," Jonah exclaimed as he opened the dressing room to discover an adult wearing a trench coat inside.
"What's wrong with you kid?! Don't you know what privacy is?" Shazam asked indignantly.
"I'm so sorry sir, I didn't know there was someone inside" Jonah said sadly.
"sir? I'm your age buddy" Shazam whispered but answered instead. "Well I'm here, you're lucky I'm dressed"
"You know what? I better get out of here" Jonah said and ran out of the boutique without saying goodbye to Andi.
"Shazam" Shazam whispered and switched back into Billy.
Andi breathed a sigh of relief when she saw Jonah leave and walked to the dressing room where Billy was still hiding.
"Billy" Andi looked at the curtain. "It´s Andi, you can come out now" Billy breathed a sigh of relief.
"Thank goodness" said Billy and left the dressing room. "thank you Andi"
"You're welcome," Andi said. "That was weird, don't you think?"
"You have no idea," said Billy.
"Andiman, ready to go?" Bex walked over to Andi.
"In a minute" Andi told her. "wait here, I'll tell my mom we're going to the swings"
"Okay," Billy agreed.
"You took so long," Andi said, approaching her mom. "I thought you'd only try on the jean jacket"
"I found more things that I liked," said Bex. "Well... what just happened there?"
"Hey, who wants pizza?" Andi asked suddenly, trying to avoid the question.
"Nice try young lady, I know what you're doing" Bex said with a smirk. "but I'm going to find out"
"Trust me, I don't expect you to," Andi said in the same tone. "oh mom, I almost forgot; can I go on the swings with Billy?"
Who is Billy? Do you already have a date?" Bex was excited.
"It's not exactly a date," Andi said embarrassed. "And Billy is the new kid who moved in from Philly, actually...you saw him a while ago, when you greeted him thinking he was Jonah"
Does Jonah have a twin?" Bex asked and noticed Billy, who was still in the store and checking out the men's section. "Wow, he looks just like him."
"I told you so," Andi commented. "but Billy is sweet and shy and nice"
"He's cute," Bex commented with a smile.
"Mom, Jonah and Billy are the same guy," Andi said.
"Billy is so much cuter," Bex commented.
"I agree with that" Andi said blushing.
"Someone has a crush on Billy," Bex said.
"Stop," Andi said nervously. "we just met"
"What's his last name?" Bex wanted to know.
"Batson," Andi explained.
"Even his name sounds cute," Bex said smiling. "Billy Batson"
"It suits him perfectly," Andi says blushing.
´"Billy and Andi, sitting on a tree K-I-S-S-I-N-G" Bex started to sing. "First comes love, then comes marriage…"
"Very mature Bex," Andi says, rolling her eyes playfully. "Anyway, can I go?"
"You can go, just don't be late" Bex told him with a smile.
"I'll be back at seven," Andi promised.
"Have fun on your date," Bex smiled.
"It's not a date," Andi stressed.
"Yeah sure," Bex said. "Come on, don't make the poor boy wait"
Andi shook her head, went to change her dress, then went to join Billy, who was still in the store.
"Sorry for the delay," Andi apologized. "my mom thought it was a date"
"It can be if you want" Billy said and Andi stared at him. "It is not an appointment as such, it is to get to know each other better"
"I like the idea," said Andi.
"Shall we?" Billy asked opening the door to the store so Andi could get out.
"Thank you Billy, you are so chivalrous" smiled Andi.
"I try to be" Billy confessed and the two teens left the store to head to the park for the swings, an hour later as they walked and chatted casually, Andi started to get annoyed when she and Billy wandered into a certain spot.
"Andi, are you okay?" Billy asked her with a certain concern.
"Can we get out of here please?" Andi asked, looking at the beautiful boy.
"what's going on?" Billy told her and saw her look at the ground for a moment before letting out a sigh. "oh I see, it's because of him, right?"
"This was where Jonah gave me my first Frisbee lessons and it was the same day I found out he had a girlfriend," Andi confessed. "so this is not a good trip down memory lane right now"
"Come on, let's go to the swings," said Billy. "you'll feel better"
"Thanks for saving me" Andi told him as they both headed to the swings. "suddenly I felt like I couldn't breathe"
"You're safe with me," Billy told her with a sweet smile. "well, we're here"
"Great" Andi said, running towards the swings but Billy gently stopped her grabbing her arm.
"Wait, I have an idea," said Billy. "How about we make it more interesting?" he added with a mischievous smile.
"what comes to your mind?" Andi wanted to know crossing her arms.
"Let's have a competition," suggested Billy. "Let's see who can swing the highest, and whoever wins..."
"Let's go to The Spoon for a milkshake and the loser has to pay for it" Andi finished the sentence.
"Deal" Billy said with a smirk and shook her hand with his own. "Are you ready Andi Mack?"
"I was practically born ready for Billy Batson" Andi said, running to the swings and sitting on one of them, Billy sat next to her.
"On your marks..." Billy began.
"set…" Andi continued.
"Go!" both exclaimed in unison as they started to swing.
Andi and Billy started swinging as high as they could, during breaks they would exchange smiles and then look at each other competitively to see who could swing the highest and almost touch the clouds. The challenge became more and more interesting as there was a moment where both were at the same height.
Yeah, it's over, it's over
I'm circling these vultures
Got me praying, man this hunger
Feeling something rotten
Last time I saw you said "What's up?"
And pushed right through
Then I tried to catch you
But we're always on the move
And now it's over, we're sober
Symptoms of the culture
And the night ain't getting younger
Last call's around the corner
Feeling kinda tempted
And I'm pouring out the truth
Just fading out these talkers 'cause now all I want is you
I'm saying, come over here sit next to me
We can see where things go naturally
Just say the word and I'll part the sea
Just come over here and sit next to me
Ooh-ooh-ooh
And I'll take you high, high
Ooh-ooh-ooh
Well, I ain't frontin' my intention
Got your man outlined in chalk
It's a midnight intervention
Got no plans to make it stop
Last time I saw you said
"You wanna keep it light?"
But I'm here to tell you
I'm not trying to change your mind
It's alright
Ooh-ooh-ooh
It's alright
Ooh-ooh-ooh
Yeah, come over here and sit next to me
We can see where things go naturally
Just say the word and I'll part the sea
Just come over here and sit next to me
Ooh-ooh-ooh
And I'll take you high, high, high, high
It's alright
It's alright
Yeah, it's alright
Yeah, it's alright
So come over here and sit next to me
We can see where things go naturally
Just say the word and I'll part the sea
Just come over here and sit next to me
Ooh-ooh-ooh
It's alright
Finally, Andi and Billy jumped off the swings and landed on their feet on the ground.
"It's a tie," Billy said, looking at Andi.
"what? wait a minute I swung higher than you" Andi said pretending to be annoyed.
"Andi, we tied," Billy told her. "Indeed you swung higher but then I caught up with you and we both almost reached the milky way"
"I want the tiebreaker" said Andi. "that's cheating"
"Oh really? And why did I cheat?" Billy asked.
"Because we agreed that the one who swung the highest would win," Andi told him. "Therefore I won; okay, since we tied, each one of us pays for their milkshakes," added Andi..
"No," Billy said. "that's not fair"
"why not?" Andy said. "we both swing higher"
"I'll let you win," Billy told her.
"No, I won't let you do that," Andi told him. "In that case, I'll let you win"
"uh, uh, No way," said Billy. "We'll do a tiebreaker if you want, but I won't let you pay for your milkshake."
oh god, we look like an old couple fighting over the remote control" Andi said, covering her face and blushing.
"It's true" Billy said, they both stared into each other's eyes and started laughing. "oh wow that was embarrassing"
"I know," Andi said laughing. "but at least let me pay for my milkshake"
"It wouldn't be right," Billy told her. "I'm sorry Andi, but a gentleman doesn't let a lady pay on the first date" Andi stared into his eyes. "I... I'm sorry, I didn't mean..."
"Don't be nervous," Andi told him with a sweet smile. "Okay, I accept, but only because you insist"
"I promise you it will be worth it" Billy told her with a smile.
"I trust you," Andi told him. "oh and you can try the baby taters, they are the specialty of the house, I'm sure you will love them"
You convinced me" said Billy, smiling and he went with Andi to the diner to get to know each other better and enjoy some delicious milkshakes and some baby taters.
