Chapter29: Inside the dark tunnel with no light.

The whole team gathered into the Highwind's infirmary. There were two beds and both were being occupied at the moment. Tifa lay, no longer bleeding in one and Cloud lay in the other, breathing but unconscious. What they had just witnessed no one could say what it was. They just decided to keep their mouths closed until the time to talk was at hand. Aeris knelt between both beads and her eyes closed. She was concentrating on casting a Healing Wind spell that would restore some life into the bodies of her team mates and most important two of her closest friends. But nothing seemed to be working. Aeris was on the brink of tears once again, so she got up and shook her head and surprisingly walked into Sephiroth's arms. He looked around awkwardly at first but then tentatively put his arms around her shoulders and pulled her in.

The team stayed like this for a while and when the time came for someone to say something Vincent took the initiative.

"So guys, I know that we are in a dire situation here. Our leader is unconscious and as to the condition of his fiancé/ and our friend we have no clue. What do you think we should do?" the question was not aimed to any one specifically but to anyone in the team who had an idea. No one talked for a while and when Vincent thought that there wasn't going to be a response Red spoke up.

"I think that we should head back to Cosmo Canyon and get to the Hospital as soon as possible. At least we know that Cloud is alive jus exhausted. Tifa on the other hand is my main concern she is alive but I have a feeling that of we don't get her some attention quick that will change."

"That is where my trend of thought was going" said Vincent.

"What about Jenova?" Aeris asked

"To tell you the truth Jenova is the last thing on my mind right now. I think we should get our team back to its full capacity and then worry about her later. I know how Jenova operates. She won't do anything unless she feels threatened and if we keep on a low profile then she should cool off and try to put something together. It's a risk that we have to take because we don't know what she is doing but I would much rather have these two on my side. Am I right Sephiroth? Vincent asked.

With a silent nod Sephiroth showed is approval of what Vincent was saying and fell motionless once again.

With that the whole team dismissed and went their separate ways. Cid went and set a course for Cosmo Canyon and let the co-pilots take care of it. He needed to rest is weary brain, and that bullet shot to his leg was getting to him. He limped to his room and shut the door.

Aeris stayed in the infirmary and looked at her two friends. She couldn't help what happened next. The tears streamed down her face freely and they seemed like they would never stop. What was happening? She fell on the floor and pulled her feet up to her chest and bawled into her lap. She couldn't help herself. Sobs racked her body and she felt like she was dying. But her body wouldn't give her the sweet release that came with the world beyond the one they were living in. Two of her closest friends were standing at the grim reaper's doorstep and ringing the bell. And she feared that if they kept on ringing he would answer. One lat tear rolled down her cheek and then she fell into a deep sleep. Her over worked body no longer able to withstand the pressure, the pain, and the agony. She too blacked out and then nothingness became her vision.

Silver hair whipped in the wind. Green eyes stared out into the passing night sky. A soft sigh escaped his pink lips and his breath came out as white air in the cooling night breeze. He was thinking about what had happened today. He was fascinated and worried at the same time. As soon as he saw what happened to Cloud today, the prophesy came to his mind. It was now obvious who the reede was talking about. Cloud and himself. He wondered if the planet had done this on purpose. If it had sent him back just to prove something. But as to what that something was he had no clue. When he had saw Cloud transform like that today he could not say that he was surprised. When he witnessed Tifa get shot multiple times he closed his eyes and an image similar to what Cloud looked like came to mind. When he opened his eyes he saw Cloud and that was that. Sephiroth stood there and sighed again. Now this was a new egg to add to the bunch. He looked down at the cup of water he had in his hand and somehow he saw his reflection. He saw his face and he looked weary. He now realized how tired he was and decided to go get some sleep. He stood up straight and put the glass of water on the railing. He stretched and took a deep breath. He hoped Cloud woke up soon and that Tifa would be alright. He turned and walked of deck and down the staircase. The sounds of night faded with the cool breeze and all was still, even the forgotten glass of water that lay forgotten on the railing.

It was in the middle of the night when two eyes flickered open and immediately fogged up with tears. Cloud tried to get up but when he remembered the past day's events he stopped trying. He was exhausted and weary. He felt immense pain and he wondered what had happened to him. He remembered Tifa getting shot and dying in his arms and then seeing Cid get shot. After that his memory was fuzzy. He remembered hovering over the new threat and then there was an explosion. After that he didn't remember anything. He also didn't remember getting injured or being hurt. He to moved his body around, testing each movable part but nothing brought him the immense pain that he was feeling. An image of dying Tifa came to his mind again and as the pain in his body increased a single tear rolled down the side of his face. He then realized that it wasn't a physical pain was feeling it was emotional. His heart was broken and it felt like it had literally split in two inside of his body. He closed his eyes and then cried his self to sleep. He didn't notice that he was inside the infirmary and he didn't think to look over to his side and view that body of his beloved. A body that still had life but life that was fading quickly. He cried that night and he felt that it would have been better if he hadn't been born than to go through this turmoil and pain.

A couple of hours later the airship landed on the outskirts of Cosmo Canyon. Silently Vincent took Tifa and brought her to the hospital. The nurses were sad to see her in this condition and got to work as soon as possible. After another hour or so a doctor came out into the empty waiting room and found Vincent. After an exchange of soft whispers Vincent's features became hard and he had to hide his face from the doctors. Tomorrow would be a long day he thought. He would wait to tell the now sleeping AVALANCHE of Tifa's grim condition.

Alright. That chapter was kind of boring but anyway. Keep reviewing and let me know whats going on.
