It has three days since Hiccup and Toothless left for the Dragons Nest and Rapunzel was getting worried by every passing hour.
She has been spending most her time on her balcony bonding with Serenity, waiting to see any sign of Hiccup and Toothless. She hardly slept at night due to nightmares she has been having of Hiccup and Toothless getting hurt and her not being there for them.
Her parents also noticed her change of behavior as she wasn't happy and cheerful as she usually was and they knew the reason for it easily. Rapunzel rarely ate and she often cried herself asleep at her thoughts. She only acted normal when she was with Serenity as it seems she's only at peace flying her dragon.
Speaking of the dragon, Serenity, along with Flameheart and Windbreaker were also getting worried. They owed Hiccup and Toothless their lives and they saw Toothless as either their leader or friend.
King Fredric and Queen Arianna knew that something had to be done, so they decided to do the only thing that came to mind, which was either crazy or insane; find Hiccup and Toothless and make sure they were still all right.
It took them an hour to dress up and pack some bags for the trip as they didn't know how far the nest was, but at least they knew which way Hiccup and Toothless flew and their dragons knew where to go as they flew and let their dragons do most of the flying.
Speaking of the duo, Hiccup and Toothless have just flown over Berk. They made sure to fly high enough so they couldn't be seen and were nearing Hellheim's Gate.
But before they passed into the fog, Hiccup pulled Toothless to a halt.
Hiccup looked back towards Berk and knew those dragons were still there and were still being used for training. If he was quiet enough, he might be able to slip in and rescue the dragons.
But if they were caught, he'd have to face his father again, they'd kill Toothless and he'd never see Rapunzel again.
Toothless screeched, snapping Hiccup free from his thoughts. Hiccup looks at his friend who's looking at his rider concerned.
Hiccup finally came to a decision and knows those dragons have suffered enough.
"Come on, bud. Let's make a slight detour." Hiccup says and the two begin to fly back towards Berk.
They fly in to Berk and stayed in the shadow as much as they come up to the Dragon Arena as Hiccup picks the lock and gets inside.
Remembering the last time that he was in the arena, Hiccup snaps himself out of it and opens the cage to the Monstrous Nightmare.
"Hey, buddy. Remember me?" Hiccup asks as the Nightmare who snarls at him. "Hey, hey, hey, shh...I'm here to help." He begins to approach the dragon slowly to not upset him.
He gets close enough and shows he means no harm and finally places his hand against the dragon's nose, gaining it's trust.
"I'm sorry for what happened here all those years ago." Hiccup apologizes as Toothless comes up and purrs as his way of apologizing for attacking him that day.
They quickly unlocked the other cages and freed the other dragons, leaving them to fly to freedom.
With them finally free, Hiccup and Toothless fly off back towards the nest as they begin to fly through the fog.
Toothless purred before he tensed up, his ear plates stood on end as he dove into the cloud cover.
"Toothless, what's wrong, bug?" asked Hiccup when another a Monstrous Nightmare emerged out of the dense cloud.
Soon, they were surrounded by hundreds of dragons which emerged out of the cloud, carrying food they got from raiding villages in their talons.
"It looks like they're hauling their kill." Hiccup whispered, not wanting to attract the attention of the dragons.
The dragons dove in formation, plummeting through the thickening fog and wavering between towering, craggy sea stacks.
They soon emerged at the base of a massive volcanic caldera, glowing with rivulets of lava as the flock of dragons fell into rank, funneling through a crack in the mountain, and zipping through a winding tunnel.
It gave way to a vast, steamy inner chamber, tiered with pocket–like shelves. All around them, different breeds of dragons were laying around, nested in hordes. The arriving dragons flew in and dropped the food into a central pit which was glowing red and shrouded in mist.
"What Stoick wouldn't give to find this." Hiccup said to himself.
Toothless peeled away from the procession and landed on a small shadowy shelf to keep a low–profile as Hiccup peeked around and saw that the dragons were still dropping their food into the pit.
"It's good to know that all of the food is being dropped down a hole." Muttered Hiccup.
Then he watches as a Gronckle flew in and opened its mouth, dropping a small fish into the pit.
Suddenly, a loud roar could be heard as the dragons hid in fear, and that's when a huge head shot out of the pit and snapped its huge jaws on the Gronckle, eating it whole. Hiccup knew what that must be; the Queen Dragon.
"Okay, bud. Let's end this. Try to get her attention." Hiccup says as Toothless spreads his wings and flew before roaring at the huge dragon.
Most of the smaller dragons stared at the Night Fury in shock seeing him return after six years of vanishing.
Toothless shoots the Dragon Queen and gets her to begin to climb out of the fog, and that's when Hiccup seeing her full size as she comes to bite them.
Toothless flew out of the way of her jaws and went through the tunnel they came in with the Red Death right behind them. They flew out of the volcano, but the Red Death didn't stop her chase and crashed out of the side of the mountain.
Once she got outside, there was a huge hole left in the volcano with all the dragons flying away.
The Red Death stepped on the beachside as Toothless flies up and then swoops down at full speed and shoots the Red Death with a Plasma Blast, which slightly dazes the huge dragon.
"That thing has wings. Okay, let's see if she can use them." Hiccup says and looked at Toothless. "You ready for this, bud?"
Toothless screeches as a response and nods his head to say yes as he flew upwards once again.
The Red Death recovered from the Plasma Blast, only to see Toothless firing another Plasma Blast at her to bring her down on the ground.
"You think that did it?" Hiccup asked his Night Fury.
A second later, the Red Death got back up and unfolded her huge wings and flew after Hiccup and Toothless.
"Well, she can fly." Hiccup states as Toothless snorted at his Rider.
Hiccup and Toothless maneuvered around the sea stacks as to try to make the Red Death follow them, but she only smashed right through the sea stacks as if they were nothing.
"We need a better plan." Hiccup mumbled as he looked at the clouds above them and came up with another idea. "Okay, Toothless, time to disappear." He said as he maneuvers Toothless to fly towards the clouds.
The Red Death followed the duo upwards and inhaled before unleashed a huge steam of flames, which Hiccup and Toothless quickly avoided. They got into the clouds and she lost a track of the Night Fury.
Unknown to them, three dragons just landed on the beachside of the Dragons' nest and their riders got off their backs; Rapunzel, King Fredrik, Queen Ariana, who got off Serenade, Flameheart and Windbreaker as they looked around and saw the huge hole on the wall.
"Whoa, what do you think made that?" Queen Arianna asked her concerned daughter.
"It's pretty hard to tell." King Fredrik said as he turned to Rapunzel, who was looking around desperately.
"Rapunzel, what is it?" Queen Ariana.
"Where are Hiccup and Toothless?" asked Rapunzel.
Arianna was about to reply when a light in the clouds caught her attention. "What's that?" She asked, gesturing to the clouds.
The family and their dragons looked up and saw the purple blasts and immediately recognized them as Toothless' Plasma Blasts.
Suddenly, there was a huge stream of orange flames circling them . Rapunzel was about to say something when she saw her biggest fear yet.
Hiccup and Toothless shot down from the clouds, with the Red Death hot on their tail. Rapunzel was about to get on Serenade's back and get up there when her father stopped her.
"Rapunzel, don't." King Fredrik said softly.
"But look at the size of that dragon. They need help!" argued Rapunzel.
King Fredrik was about to say something when they heard a hissing sound and looked up and saw the Red Death forming green gas in her mouth, signaling that she was about to fire.
Hiccup and Toothless had a plan as they kept falling and waited for the right moment.
"NOW!" Hiccup yells as Toothless spins around and fired a Plasma Blast into the dragon's mouth, igniting the gas within her.
The Red Death spread her wings, but because of the damage they took from Toothless' blasts in the clouds, the wings started to rip apart.
Toothless spun around and flew out of the way as the Red Death flew out of control, crashing into the beachside, not too close to Rapunzel and her parents, exploding from the inside.
Hiccup and Toothless barely managed to avoid the flames and the falling dragon. Hiccup was too focused on the incoming fire and that the fire burned their tail, he nearly forgot about the tail. He glanced up just as the tail heading their way.
"No. No!" Cried Hiccup as the Red Death's tail smashed right into them, throwing Hiccup off the saddle and down into the flames, rendering him unconscious.
Toothless dove after Hiccup and protected him with his wings right before the flames reached them.
Ashes were falling everywhere, blinding everyone and their dragons as the Royal Family were looking around for any sing for Hiccup and Toothless.
"Hiccup! Hiccup?!" Shouted Rapunzel, searching through the ashes for them.
They continued looking until Queen Ariana spotted something black in the distance. "Over there!" she shouted and gestured to the black silhouette.
Rapunzel gasped and ran towards the black figure, which she very well knew was Toothless. Her parents and the dragons followed the princess and gasped when they saw Toothless.
The Night Fury was lying motionless on the ground. When Rapunzel got to him, she saw that the saddle was empty and burned along with the prosthetic tailfin.
She fell on her knees and put a hand on the dragon's snout and broke down in tears.
A few seconds later, Toothless' head moved and he slowly began to open his eyes. He then saw Rapunzel crying and felt bad for the princess. He softly crooned, gaining her attention.
Rapunzel looked at the Night Fury with a sad expression, her eyes red from crying. "Oh, Toothless," she sighed softly and buried her head in her hands before she started crying once again. "He's gone."
She then felt Toothless shaking his head before pulling away from Rapunzel and opening his wings, revealing Hiccup in his paws. Rapunzel didn't know what to think as she quickly pulled Hiccup into a hug and placed a hand over his chest, feeling for his heartbeat.
"He's alive." Rapunzel cheered quietly and her eyes were immediately filled with tears of joy, and looked at Toothless. "You brought him back. Thank you!"
Her parents smiled and were happy that Hiccup was alive, but then Arianna noticed something.
"Thank you for saving him." Rapunzel said in happiness to Toothless while scratching his nose as the dragon nodded and put his head in the princess' lap.
"It's good that he's alive, but we have to do something about this." Queen Arianna says as she approached them and gestured to Hiccup's left leg.
Rapunzel looked at what her mother was gesturing at and gasped when she saw that Hiccup's left leg was gone and the surrounded area was scorched and fear immediately overwhelmed her.
"We need to take him back to Corona and fast." King Fredrik said when he saw Hiccup's leg.
"But how? Serenade, Flameheart, Windbreaker are not big enough to carry Toothless." Rapunzel said when a thought came to mind. "I've got an idea!" She then laid Hiccup on the ground and wrapped her hair around Hiccup's blooding left leg. "I might be able to at least close the wound."
"Are sure about this?" King Fredrik asks, as none of them know how much Rapunzel's hair can heal. Meaning there's a chance this won't work.
"Yes...I cant loose him." Rapunzel says as she begins to close her eyes and beings to sing. "Flower, gleam and glow. Let your power shine. Make the clock reverse. Bring back what once was mine." The glowing reaches Hiccup's leg as the family and Pascal on Rapunzel's shoulder watches and waits to see if this works. "Heal what has been hurt. Change the fates design. Save what has been lost. Bring back what once was mine. What once was mine." She finishes singing and unwrapped her hair from Hiccup's leg, showing that the wound had closed completely, much to everyone's relief. He may have lost a leg, but at least he'll live.
"Okay, the wound is closed, but how are we gonna take Hiccup and Toothless back?" Arianna asks.
King Fredrik was about to reply when they heard wings flapping, but Rapunzel didn't pay much mind to it.
They looked up and saw the dragons of the nest landing not too far away from them as Serenade, Flameheart and Windbreaker took defensive positions, but the dragons didn't pay them much attention as they were looking at Hiccup and Toothless.
The Berk dragons came down ahead of the rest of them as Rapunzel looked up from Hiccup and noticed the dragons, who then bowed down.
"What's happening?" King Fredrik asks.
"They're bowing to Hiccup and Toothless. They took down that huge dragons and now the dragons consider them their new leaders." Queen Arianna took the guess.
The dragons lifted their heads and smiled at Rapunzel, who held Hiccup tightly.
"You're gonna help us?" Rapunzel asks the dragons who nodded causing her to smile and so did her parents.
"Well, looks like we'll be returning to the kingdom with more dragons." King Fredrik guesses.
"Then let's head back home." Rapunzel says as she got on Serenity with Hiccup still in her arms and took off back home.
King Fredrik got on Flameheart while Queen Ariana got on Windbreaker and flew after Rapunzel, followed by the hundreds of dragons, one of them being a Typhoomerang caring Toothless in it's arms on their way back home.
