Back again! I'm doing something a little different for this chapter. As those familiar with my series may remember, episode 3 was Kaiju 101, which was an episode about Minya and his friends in school, the teacher being Shukra, the homework monster from Godzilla vs. Gigan. I based Shukra's strange behavior and dialogue off a goofy professor I had in college, who would always tell us that English was funner than sex. Fun as the episode was to do, I feel it aged poorly(Kiko being excited about the next Twilight movie, among other things), so I'm omitting it here, and instead opting for a more serious chapter devoted to some character development that I didn't do in the series. Occasionally, I do like to mix some drama with the comedy, and this is a backstory I always planned to do, but I'm setting the stage earlier this time. You can of course watch the actual Kaiju 101 episode on YouTube if you wanna see Shukra in action. Anyway, this will be the first chapter not based on an existing video, so we'll see how this goes. Do enjoy!

Chapter 3

Godzilla's Little Buddy

"Don't worry son," the father said to his frightened child. "I will find the beast that killed your mom. Then I will return to you."

"Daddy, please. Please don't leave," the child begged, tears in his little eye.

The father hugged his beloved son. "I swear, once this is done, I'll never leave you again. But that monster has to be stopped. He and his kind have hunted us for so long, and it's time to end it. Maybe if I'd acted sooner, your mom would still be here."

"She died protecting me," cried the kid. "It's my fault!"

"Don't blame yourself," assured the dad. "The only one at fault is me. And I'm going to make up for it. Just wait here. I will slay that fiend, and return to you. I promise."

The child waited, and waited, and waited. But the father never returned.

Anguirus wiped a tear from his eyes. The last memory of his father was very painful. It may have been way back in 1955, but it still hurt as bad as ever.

"Hey little buddy!"

"What's up Angy?"

Anguirus wiped the tears from his eyes. "Hey Goji. How you doing Rodan? What do you have there?"

Rodan showed him the Meganulon trapped in his talon. "Just a little snack, dude!"

"HEEEEEEELP MEEEEEEEE," shrieked the Meganulon.

"Fat chance, dude!" Rodan tossed the creature into the air, bringing a shriek of terror from it, and as it came back down, Rodan chomped his beak over it. "Mmmmmmm delicious."

"Really Rodie," said Godzilla. "It's like you have no regard for the lives of other creatures. Anyway, Angy, you wanna come to the Monster Island fields with us and kill some Kamacuras?"

"No," said Anguirus. "I don't feel up to it today."

Godzilla and Rodan exchanged worried looks. "What's going on Little Buddy?"

"It's just...it's the anniversary of the day my dad left to find my mom's killer."

Godzilla gulped, suddenly feeling sick. Rodan noticed, but kept his attention on Anguirus. "That sucks dude. Any idea who the jerk was that did it?"

Anguirus shook his head. "I was so young. I saw him briefly when he attacked mom on our island. But, I couldn't place him if he was standing right in front of me."

"Geeze, man. Anything we can do? Maybe we could help track down the guy that killed 'em. With all three of us, he wouldn't stand a chance!"

"Uh, I dunno about that," said Godzilla. "I mean, that might be a little too traumatic for my little buddy, facing his parents' killer. Uh, right Angy?"

Anguirus thought about it. "I guess you're right. Besides, mom and dad wouldn't want me risking my life. I would like to someday know who did it though. Just to have an idea of why. Why he thought my parents deserved death. What had they done to deserve it?"

"There's not always a reason Angy," said Godzilla. "Some Kaiju do it for various reasons. Some Kaiju do it for trilobites. Some Kaiju just like to watch the world burn. And some Kaiju were raised to be ferocious killing machines and later on after maturing, understand the errors of their ways and live in eternal regret over what they did all those years ago."

"Well, that was oddly specific," said Rodan.

Godzilla rolled his eyes. "The point is Angy, maybe you're better off not knowing. You know? It could just make the pain worse."

Anguirus sighed. "Yeah. Look, I'm gonna go lie down for a while. I need to be alone."

"Alright," said Rodan. "Take care dude."

A Kamacuras exploded into bits upon being hit by Godzilla's nuclear breath. "Aw man," said Godzilla. "Did you see the size of that one? Thirty points, easily! You keeping score Rodie?"

Rodan just observed Godzilla. "So, the crap was that about?"

Godzilla cocked his head. "What? I just killed that Kamacuras dead. It's the whole reason we came here."

"No. I mean with Anguirus. Why did you act so funny about his parents."

"Hey," shouted Godzilla. "What happened to his folks was no laughing matter. Nothing funny about it."

"You know what I mean. You know something about their deaths, don't you?"

"OH WOULD YOU LOOK AT THE SIZE OF THAT ONE!?" Godzilla excitedly blasted a large Kamacuras, and jumped like an excited child as it burst into flames, and crashed to the ground.

"Godzilla!"

"What," said Godzilla. "I didn't kill his parents!"

Rodan froze. "Wait, what?"

Godzilla sighed. "Crap...Look, Rodie, Angy can never know."

Rodan glared. "You mean...you did that to him? You're the reason he's so blue right now."

Godzilla lowered his head. "I'm not proud of it, I assure you. My dad raised me to kill. To kill all life I found. My dad...he had issues. He hated anything he considered a lower lifeform than him, which was pretty much everybody. He especially hated the Anguirusauruses, and taught me to be the same way. Yes, I murdered his mom when we fought on that island. Not for food. Not for sport. Just for the thrill of killing her. Then when his dad found me in Osaka...I didn't hold back. I had no mercy, no compassion for his grief. I just struck him down, leaving his kid an orphan. I was exactly the creature my father raised me to be. Years later, after you and me helped Mothra fight off Ghidorah that first time, I had a long battle with my conscience. It took some time, but eventually, I searched out, and found the little Anguirusaurus who's life I ruined, and vowed to take care of him. He's been my best friend ever since."

"And when do you intend to tell him," asked Rodan.

Godzilla shrugged. "If I'm lucky, never. He can't know. He'd never forgive me. Not that I would blame him, but...I love that little guy. I couldn't bare for him to know it was me."

Rodan sighed. "Look, Godzilla. I get ya, dude. I was on the wrong side for a while too. I did some bad crap. So I know what you mean. But if Anguirus ever finds out it was you, and you're not the one who told him, it'll be so much worse."

"You won't tell, will you?"

"No Godzilla," said Rodan. "That's your call, not mine. Look. I gotta go. Just, think about it. I'll catch ya later!" And with that, Rodan took off. Godzilla watched him go, and then turned his attention back to the Kamacuras. He spotted one taking off into the air. Godzilla's spines began to glow with energy as he prepared to attack. But the beam of energy never came. Instead, he let the creature fly away to safety. And at that, the King of the Monsters slumped to the ground, and wept.
