Chuckling, Ciel focused his energy on dodging his opponents attacks rather than taking an offensive position. The more energy Belmont exerted, the closer he was to having his body shut down. Certainly, he was energised from the demon blood that he consumed, but it had a limit. His body had a limit. Ciel didn't have to really fight him. All he really needed to do was play the waiting game.
Perhaps he wouldn't have to. The more he spurred his opponent on, the more mistakes Belmont made, leaving himself open to attacks unnecessarily. Naturally, Ciel used these openings to his advantage and struck at him. It wasn't difficult. There was no real technique to it. Even his means of enciting anger in the Belmont required no skill. He wasn't reading minds or souls like he was leading the man to believe. No, he simply had a source of information. Some of this was information that not even HELLSING knew. They couldn't know. Ciel promised that he wouldn't say anything to them about it.
"Keep at it and you'll kill yourself." the Watchdog warned. "Demon blood is not good for humans."
"Feels good to me!" the other answered before swinging again.
"So does cocaine..." Ciel muttered. People in general enjoy doing things that harm them for a temporary high. It was incredibly common with ordinary people using an array of vices. Still, seeing a psychic who ingested blood of a demon is definitely a first. "Is gaining the power of a demon part of your agenda?"
"It is if it makes me strong enough to carry it out." Belmont stated. "You gotta understand: you can't alter the position of the dominant species without some considerable strength."
"So you'll throw away your humanity for it? Oh, but I suppose it doesn't count, since you'll be in charge."
"I am human!" bellowed the psychic. "I am more than human! I am humanity itself! I will save humanity from its self-imposed weakness and bring it into a new era of prosperity! Everyone will have the powers of a psychic because it will be a race of psychics!"
"And then everyone else can just die, hm?" questioned the bluenette. "And you call us 'monsters'."
"Human beings have the drive to do whatever it takes to survive, even if we gotta sacrifice a few of our own! Even if it's just for the hell of it! That's human will!"
"No. That's an excuse."
Swinging upward, Ciel's sword clashed against the other's as David attempted to block him, only to take off the tip of the weapon and send it flying. For a brief moment, there was genuine fear in the Belmont's eyes as the thought that he wasn't as power as he assumed he was began to creep into his mind.
"You stole that sword from Blackwood, didn't you?" the demon asked. "I thought it looked familiar. He stole it from yet another enemy of ours. Is it the loser's blade?"
Snarling, Belmont raised his other arm and aimed his gun. It was at an angle where it definitely wouldn't kill Ciel if he simply didn't feel like dodging it. When the demon didn't look fazed, he had to rethink his strategy and he only had the span of a second to do so. Then, in the corner of his eye, he caught the glint of a gun barrel. Following it with his gaze, he saw the menace preparing another shot from a new hiding place. Reflexively, his aim shifted from Ciel to Alois in order to deal with that threat. It wasn't a conscious choice, but it was one that benefited him.
As soon as Ciel saw him alter the direction of the bullet, he leapt into action. He wasn't thinking either. All he knew was that his husband was over there and he didn't want the blonde to be shot. Alois would have definitely survived, but Ciel didn't have time to think about that. His body just moved on seemingly its own accord.
The sound of the gun going off flooded the ears of those nearby as well as the open air, followed by a much softer sounding grunt as the bullet embedded itself in Ciel's chest. It was on the wrong side to hit his heart, but it still hurt. He was close enough to the gunman for there to be back splatter.
Alois tried to call out to his beau, but his throat had no yelled healed, so all that came out was painful air. His husband was tough, thank goodness, but couldn't regenerate right away. There was no exit wound, indicating that the bullet was still inside of him. That would have to be forced out before he could heal. The menace felt sick to his stomach, watching David Belmont lick his skin where the other Phantomhive's blood speckled him.
"I'll take you, too." the psychic said throatily with a grin. David was rather pleased with himself. Taking the power of one demon was one thing, while taking the power of two was another.
Ciel's eyes widened as the two slashes across the man's chest that he inflicted hissed and began to close up right in front of him. A human being had gained regenerative abilities like his own. Worse still, he could see that David was enjoying himself.
The brute's body shivered as he voraciously lapped at his skin. He was wild like an animal, but the spiraling blackness that consumed his heart, mind, and soul were far too intelligent. That was all that was left of David Belmont's humanity. Blood pumping, eyes dilated, a thin layer of sweat coating his skin, the man had never known such sweet rapture. Drugs were worthless to him and so was sex. What of humanity? What of psychics? What of the salvation of the species? Forget his mother! He didn't need her! He didn't need anyone! All that David needed was more.
Raising the gun again, he aimed for Alois, now knowing that Ciel would step in to put a stop to it. What he didn't anticipate was a sword being thrust into his abdomen, impaling him. Ciel pushed against him, causing him to walk backwards, but Belmont had other plans.
"You smell delightful." cackled the psychic. Then, opening his jaws as wide as he could, he latched onto the demon's shoulder. Only his canines broke the skin, as the rest of his teeth were far too dull. With his considerable bite force, however, it was only a matter of time.
"Dammit!" Ciel's plan had gone awry. Every wound that is inflicted on him become a new source of strength for his opponent. He needed to get the other off of him fast, but he was trapped. Belmont's hands were free to move and held weapons while both of Ciel's hands were wrapped around the handle of his sword. While David didn't have the tip of one, he still had a blade and placed it against the demon's back, preventing him from pulling away. Ciel would just have to take the injury if he wanted out, even if it would mean that Belmont would get stronger. He was already attempting to tear a chunk out of his shoulder. This wasn't going to work. "Just die already!"
Alois watched from the side and tried to line up a shot. Ciel's back was to him, blocking their foe's torso as he tried to shield Alois from attack. Belmont's head was too close to Ciel's, so if the blonde's hand wasn't steady, he could very well kill his husband by mistake. He was shaking. He couldn't help. He knew that he was needed and he knew that there was nothing that he could do. He was far too weak.
"Ci...el…" he choked out. It hurt. Everything hurt. It was just his state of being at that moment. He could either live with it and try to move on, or he could sit there and hope it would be over soon. One of them was obviously the better option of the two, but instead, Alois found himself compelled to take the more risky, and damaging one.
Grunting, he pushed his hands against the concrete ground and tried to get on his feet. If he could just close the gap between him and the others, he might be able to shoot Belmont. Then, his eye wandered to the gun in the psychic's hand and he hesitated. His body refused to go any further and he collapsed again with a sharp yelp. His legs wouldn't carry him. His arms would not raise to aim his weapon. Alois was tired. So tired. Even still, while his physical self appeared to be made of lead, his mind raced in search of a solution.
Out of the corner of his eye, there was a moment where he thought he might have found it. Then, as his mind caught up with him, his feeling of dread returns. From his place on the ground, he could see a pair of bare feet, battered and filthy.
"David!" called the voice of a young girl, causing everything to go silence as she called out to the beast.
Just as suddenly as the girl arrived, the Belmont's jaw began to relax, freeing his captive. His eyes darted upward to see Constance standing there with fresh clothes that were only dirty at the ankles and a defiant stare. She held her chin up high and clenched her fists, trying to hide the fact that she was scared out of her mind.
The girl was sweating bullets as she confronted this man- no, this beast, that she had lived in fear of for a good portion of her life. All around her, people lived in fear of him. Monsters never lived in her closet or under her bed when she was younger. They were just beyond her bedroom door, forcing her to shove her dresser and whatever else she could find against the door, blocking it. She couldn't let him in. She couldn't let her parents in either in case he had control over them. She knew David Belmont. She knew him well.
Before Ciel could pull away, David swung his arm, knocking him aside. The bluenette kept a grip on his weapon, so it slid out as he was sent flying. He skidded along the concrete and tried to claw the ground in order to stay on it. Sparks flew from his blade until he finally stopped, but it didn't stop his feet from touching open air as he dangled off the side of the building.
A/N: I am uploading as fast as I can, that's why the cliffhanger. Or, skyscraper-hanger? Whatever.
I might not be able to work on this for a little bit, though. I'm getting my wisdom teeth removed on Friday, so I'm not going to be very good at writing. If I put out a quick chapter tomorrow, I put out a chapter tomorrow, but after that, it's gonna be a few days. I'll start tonight, though.
Wish me luck and don't let me update while I'm on anesthesia. That would be a total shit show...
Or hilarious, depending on how you look at it.
Anyway, that's what you can expect in the near future, so please forgive me if it takes me more than a week to put out a chapter.
Until the next chapter, my duckies~!
