Chapter 8: Trial and Error Part 1
Jaden and Alexis walked through the woods until they came to the source of the light, which turned out to be...
"A door? How strange."
"No stranger than anything else that's happened today."
"Good point."
"Jaden, Alexis, is that you?"
The two turned to find Syrus and Hassleberry coming through the underbrush, followed by Bastion and Chazz.
"Hey guys, glad to see you?"
"What are you guys doing here?"
"What do you think, Slacker? We saw some weird light and thought it might be our ticket it out of here. Too bad it turns out to just be some kind of door."
"Now Chazz, don't be impatient. It may still be our way home."
He walked over to the door, only to find it had no handle or other method to open it.
"Hmm? How do you..."
Just then, the gem on top of the door glowed, emitting a beam of light. Once the light had died down, a strange figure appeared. It appeared to be based off the forest itself, with foliage embedded in its cloak. Its head was a moose skull, with antlers made out of tree bark.
"Greetings, Duel World travelers. I am the guardian of this world, Green Guardjan Embust."
"Yeah, yeah, now how do we get home?"
"If you'd let me finish, Chazz, I would've explained."
Chazz gasped in shock.
"How do you know my name?"
"I know all of your names. I've been watching all of your duel's, and I find your duelist spirit most intriguing."
"Alright, so you know who we are. How do we get home?"
"To open this gate, you must beat me in a series of duels. I have five decks, but you only need to beat me three times, a different duelist each time. If you accomplish this, the duel gate shall open. Now, who shall face me first?"
Bastion smiled and stepped forward.
"I shall you take you on."
"Be careful Bastion. We don't know what kind of cards this guy has."
"Don't worry, Jaden. I'll take care of this."
"Very well, Bastion. I suppose its time to, how you say, duel?"
"Perhaps.
Bastion: 8000
Embust: 8000
"You may take the first turn, traveler."
"Very well, then I draw! First, I summon Solar Flare dragon (1500/1000) in attack mode. Next, I activate Dark Room of Nightmare. Lastly, I'll set two cards face down and end my turn, but not before my Flare Dragon deals you 500 points of damage!"
The flame dragon produced a small fireball, causing the guardian to flinch as his life points fell.
Embust: 7500
"And don't forget my Dark Room of Nightmare. Every time you take effect damage, it'll deal you another 300 points of damage."
Purple mist gathered at Embust's feet, burning him as he coughed, losing life points in the process.
Embust: 7200
"Sweet!" Jaden commented. "Embust hasn't played a card yet and Bastion's already in the lead!"
"Yeah, but moose head hasn't had his turn yet. And something tells me he's gearing for revenge."
"My turn, I draw! To start, I activate Poison of the Old Man, and I choose to gain 1200 life points."
"I thought you might try that, so I activate Bad Reaction to Simochi! Now you'll lose those life points instead!"
Green Guardian Embust barely had time to gasp in shock before the mist on the ground burned him again, once for his own card and again for Bastion's room of Nightmare
Embust:7200-6000-5700
"Hmm, well played. I summon Chainsaw Insect (2400/0) in attack mode! Attack his dragon!"
"Before he does, I activate Backfire! Now every time you destroy a fire monster, you lose 500 life points, like now!"
Chainsaw Insect tore through Bastion's monster, making him flinch, but his trap card hit his opponent with a fireball while his spell card burned him with mist.
Bastion: 7100
Embust: 5700-5200-4900
"And since your Insect attacked, I get to draw a card."
Embust snarled, looking at his hand and trying to come up with his next play.
"I end my turn with two cards face down. Your move."
"Very well. I draw!"
"I activate my face downs, Skill Drain and Mask of Restrict! My Mask of Restrict makes it so neither one of us can tribute monsters for any reason, while Skill Drain negates the effects of all monsters at the cost of 1000 life points."
Embust: 3900
"Aw man," Syrus sighed. "Now his monster effects are completely cut off."
"Oh, I wouldn't be so sure about that, Syrus, for I activate Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy his Skill Drain."
Embust snarled as his strategy was interrupted, but quickly regained his composure.
"Now that that minor inconvenience has been dealt with, I summon another Solar Flare Dragon! Next, I activate Premature Burial, letting me bring back the one in my graveyard for 800 life points (7100-6300)! I'll end my turn, and I'm sure you know what happens next."
Embust sighed, weary as Bastion's life points brought him down even farther.
Embust: 3900-3400-3100-2600-2300
Sighing, Embust drew his card, only to be disappointed when it couldn't help him.
"I pass."
"Wait, why didn't he attack one of Bastion's dragons?"
"Because he couldn't, Jaden. As long as there is another Pyro type monster on my side of the field, they can't be selected as an attack target."
"Woah, glad you're on our side."
"Trust me, the next time we duel each other you'll be on the other end of this deck, but for now its my turn. I draw! And to start, I summon Ultimate Baseball Kid (500/1000) in attack mode. And for every other fire attribute monster on the field, he gains 1000 attack (500-2500). Ultimate Baseball Kid, take out his Chainsaw Insect!"
The batsman tossed a ball in the air, striking it hard with his bat as it descended. As it flew the ball turned into a fireball, smacking Embust's monster so hard it shattered.
Embust: 2200
Bastion smirked as he draw a card from the Insect's effect.
"Now finish this, my Flare Dragons!"
Embust could only watch in horror as Bastion's monsters were upon him, burning away the last of his life points.
Embust: 0000
Bastion wins!
Despite his loss, Embust couldn't help but feel a sense of pride.
"Congratulations, Bastion. You were clearly the superior duelist."
"Thank you, oh wise guardian."
"Now, who shall face me next."
Chazz grinned and leapt forward.
"Get ready, moose head! I'm gonna Chazz You up!"
