Chapter 13: Making Waves

Atticus sighed as he watched the ocean tides bobbing up and down. One minute he was dueling his sister, the next he's in the middle of nowhere surrounded by sand on all sides. All he had found so far was the ocean, but not another soul in sight.

"Ah man, this sucks!"

Annoyed, he picked up a rock and hurled it at the water. But instead of skipping along the waves...

"OW!"

Atticus was snapped out of his thoughts as a shirtless man with blue hair riding a shark emerged from the water, rubbing his head. Atticus chuckled nervously as the man jumped off onto shore.

"Hey, sorry man, I-"

"Save it! I am The Legendary Fisherman, and in this world that is a challenge, so put your cards where your mouth is!"

Realizing there wasn't any backing out of this, Atticus raised his Duel Disk as well.

"Alright, you're on!"

GAME ON!

Legendary Fisherman: 8000

Atticus: 8000

"Since you attacked me, I'll make the first move. First, I activate A Legendary Ocean!"

The ocean behind them rose up and swallowed them whole. When the waves receded, Atticus found himself under the sea surrounded by ruins.

"Now I can summon myself without tributing, so come on out The Legendary Fisherman (1850/1600) in attack mode!"

"Huh? Why didn't he gain any attack points?"

"Unfortunately, as long as Umi is on the field, I am immune to the effects of spell cards, not even my own. I'll end my turn with two cards face down and end my turn."

"Gee, and here I was expecting some kind of sea monster. Alright, my turn. And to start, I summon Mirage Dragon (1600/600) in attack mode! Now I enter the battle phase!"

"Are you a fool? I can't be attacked, and even if you could attack me I'm still stronger than your dragon!"

"Yeah, but that also means you can't stop me from attacking directly, which is exactly what I'm gonna do!"

Realizing he didn't have much time, The Fisherman moved to activate his set cards.

"I activate my trap card-"

"You can't. As long as I have Mirage Dragon on my field, you can't activate any trap cards during the battle phase."

The Legendary Fisherman could do nothing as the fire ball hit him, sending flying until his mount caught him.

Legendary Fisherman: 6400

"I'll set two cards face down and end my turn. Your move."

"You'll pay for that! I summon Seven Colored Fish (1800-2000/800-1000) in attack mode. Now my Fisherman, attack his Dragon!"

The ugly fish swam towards Atticus's field and slashed his dragon with its tail, destroying it before swimming back.

Atticus: 7600

"Now my doppleganger will attack you directly!"

Atticus screamed in pain as he was stabbed by the fisherman's spear, doubling over in pain as he clutched his stomach.

Atticus: 5750

"I end my turn, but not before I activate my trap cards, Tornado Wall and Gravity Bind! Now neither of us can use level 4 or higher monsters to attack. And Tornado Wall makes sure I won't take any battle damage as long as I have A Legendary Ocean on my field. Your move."

Groaning, Atticus raised to his feet and drew his card. As he did so, he heard a deep voice call out to him.

Give in...

Atticus shook it off, ignoring it and beginning his turn.

"I summon Red Eyes Black Chick, and by tributing him I can bring out his Papa, Red Eyes Black Dragon!"

The Legendary Fisherman reeled back as the dragon let loose a ferocious roar.

"A mighty beast to be sure, but it can't attack as long as I have Gravity Bind on the field."

"He won't need to, because with Inferno Fire Blast he can deal you damage equal to his attack points!"

The Fisherman was once more thrown back by the fireball, although he quickly recovered.

Legendary Fisherman: 4000

"And before I end my turn, I activate the spell card Dragon's Gunfire, dealing you 800 points of damage!"

This time, The Fisherman couldn't catch himself, his Shark barely catching him in time and returning him to his place.

Legendary Fisherman: 3200

"Your move."

Furious the Fisherman nearly tore his card from his deck.

"You'll pay for that! I play Fortress Whale's Oath, sending 7- Colored Fish and The Legendary Fisherman to the graveyard to ritual Fortress Whale (2350-2550/2150-2350) in attack mode! Next, I summon Space Mambo (1700-1900/1000-1200) in attack mode, and play Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy Gravity Bind and allow my monsters to attack. Fortress Whale, take out his Red Eyes!"

The mighty whale opened its mouth and let loose a powerful stream of water, drowning the mighty dragon.

Atticus: 5600

"I activate Red Eyes Burn! Since you destroyed my Red Eyes, we both take damage equal to its attack points!"

Both Atticus and his opponent shielded themselves as flamed flickered around them, draining their life points.

Atticus: 3200

Legendary Fisherman: 800

"And next, I activate Call of the Haunted to bring back Red Eyes!"

His opponent snarled before making his next move.

"I'll set one card face down and end my turn."

He's done for. Even if he can find a way to get over Fortress Whale's attack, my Mirror Force will blow it away. As long as I can summon a monster, and then my monsters will finish him off.

Atticus, meanwhile, had just drawn the card when he heard the voice again. He knew exactly who it was, and his blood ran cold.

Give in...use my power...crush this fool.

"Get out! I'm in control!"

Fool! You're mine! You knew the risk when you put the deck in your disk, you belong to me now!

"Are you going to duel, or talk with your imaginary friends?"

Forcing the voice back, Atticus made his move.

"I activate Dragon's Gunfire, letting me deal you 800 life points to you."

"What? But I only have 800 life points."

"What does Jaden always say? Oh yeah, That's Game!"

Legendary Fisherman: 0000

Atticus wins!

With a grunt, the fisherman got back on his shark before turning to Atticus.

"Well played, but I will have my revenge."

Atticus sighed in relief as the voice in his head receded. But he knew it was only a matter of time before it came back.

"Atticus!"

Atticus turned in time to catch his sister, embracing her in a hug.

"Lex! Man, am I glad to see you!"

"I'm glad you're alright, Atticus!"

"Same here, but where are we?"

Once Jaden caught up, the three exchanged stories and tried to piece together an explanation, to no avail.

"Come on, we should get back to the gang and see if they found anything."

Nodding, the three decided to take Jaden's decision and started the trek back. As they walked, though, Atticus heard the voice one last time.

"Enjoy it while it lasts, mortal. I'll be back...
