Chapter 15: Tomb Raiders Part 1
The inside of the pyramid was dark, only dimly lit by torches lining the inner walls. However, from what they could see it was very ornate, with walls made out of solid gold.
"Woah, this place is sweet!"
"Keep it down, Jay! Something about this place doesn't feel right."
"Ah come on Sy, what's the harm?"
"WHO GOES THERE!"
Suddenly, the seven were ambushed by men with pointed spears aimed right at their faces.
"That. That's the harm."
"Uh, hey fellas. Looks, this is one big mistake, and..."
"Halt."
The soldiers moved aside, allowing a man whose head was covered by a Jackal helmet to step forward. He eyed Jaden carefully, before nodding.
"I am The Gravekeeper's Commandant. I've heard tales from our sister tribe of a youth who managed to defeat their Chief. I had my doubts, but I can tell just by your duelist spirit that they were true."
He then turned to his men.
"Leave them be. They are free to roam our Pyramid..."
"We are? Sweet, thanks."
Jaden was about to move forward, only to be held back by the Commandant's arm.
"...If he defeats me in a duel. Otherwise, you must leave and never come back."
"Is that it? Fine by me."
Minutes later, the two were in the center chamber ready for their duel.
"Get ready child. By the might of the Pharaoh, I will protect this tomb!"
"Hey man, we're just passing through. We won't hurt ya."
GAME ON!
Gravekeeper's Commandant: 8000
Jaden: 8000
"Since you're the tresspasser, I'll go first. To start, I activate my own effect. By discarding myself to the graveyard, I can add Necrovalley from my deck to my hand, which I'll now activate."
The room around them transformed to a desert canyon, a setting sun in the background.
"Next, I'll set one monster face down and activate Royal Tribute! Now we both must send any monsters in our hand to the graveyard."
Sighing, sent his three monsters to the graveyard, while the Commandant had none.
"I'll set one card face down and end my turn. Make your move, if you can."
Grunting, Jaden drew his next card.
"I set one monster face down, and one card face down. I end my turn."
"Is that all? To start, I flip over Gravekeeper's Spy, letting me summon a level 4 or lower Gravekeeper's from my deck, and I choose Gravekeeper's Spy! And don't forget, Necrovalley boosts their attack and defense points by 500 (1200-1700/2000-2500 X2). Now I summon Gravekeeper's Cannonholder (1400-1900/1200-1700). Prepare for a world of hurt, child. Gravekeeper's Spy, attack his face down!"
The spy leapt up and smashed the monster, which revealed itself to be Winged Kuriboh (300/200) before shattering.
"Sorry, but the turn Winged Kuriboh is destroyed, I don't take any battle damage! And I also activate Hero Signal, letting me summon Elemental Hero Neos Alius (1900/1300)!"
"You may be safe from my attacks, but effect damage is still fare game! I activate Dark Room of Nightmare! Now every time you take effect damage, you'll take an extra 300 points of damage. And with Cannonholder's effect, I can tribute any other Gravekeeper's monster I control to deal you 700 points of damage each! So by tributing my two spys, you'll take 2000 points of damage!"
Jaden grunted in pain as Cannonholder shot his comrades at him through its cannon, causing him to double over.
Jaden: 6000
"I'm not done! I activate Rite of Spirit, letting me bring back Gravekeeper's Curse (800/800)! Take 800 points of damage!"
A stange hissing noise filled the room as a red aura surrounded Jaden, stripping him of more life points.
Jaden: 5200
"And don't forget my Cannonholder! I tribute Curse to deal you another 1000 points of damage!"
"Ah man."
Once more, Jaden was hit by a huge cannon blast, knocking him right over.
Jaden: 4200
"I'll end my turn by activating the spell card Messenger of Peace. Now neither of us can attack with monsters over 1500 attack. If you were smart boy, you'd stay on the ground where you belong."
"Well its a good thing I'm not smart! Wait, that came out wrong..."
Jaden's friends groaned at his awful comeback.
"Heh heh, anyway, I activate Card of Sanctity, letting us draw until we have six cards. Next, I play Neo Space! Meaning Necro Valley gets destroyed."
The desert valley shattered, being replaced by a field of strange colors.
"Now I activate Miracle Contact! By returning the Elemental Hero Neos in my graveyard and the Neo Spacian Glow Moss in my hand to the deck, I can special summon Elemental Hero Glow Neos (2500-3000/2000)!"
"An impressive monster. Too bad it can't attack."
"Don't be so sure. I activate Glow Neos's effect to destroy one face card on the field, like your Messenger of Peace!"
"What?!"
The Gravekeeper could only watch as the hero threw its light spear, running right through his card and destroying it.
"Next, I use the effect of Elemental Hero Necroshade in my graveyard to summon Elemental Hero Bladedge (2600/1800) for free! Now its time for battle! Since Glow Neos destroyed a spell card through his effect, he can attack you directly!"
"Uh oh."
The Commandant doubled over in pain as the hero rammed him right through with its spear, snarling as he struggled to his feet.
Gravekeeper's Commandant: 5000
"Next I'll have Neos Alius attack your Cannonholder."
The miniature neos ran up and punched the Cannon holding spellcaster repeatedly until it exploded.
Gravekeeper's Commandant: 4500
"Now Blade Edge, attack him directly!"
The golden hero ran up and slashed his opponent with its arm blades, sending him to the floor in pain.
Gravekeeper's Commandant: 1900
"I'll end my turn with two cards face down. Your move."
Sighing, the Commandant drew his next card. Seeing that he could do nothing more, the Gravekeeper placed his hand over his deck.
"I can do nothing more. I surrender."
As the field disappeared, Jaden walked over and shook his opponent's hand.
"Good game. That was a cool combo with your Cannonholder."
"Thank you, challenger. I can now see why the Chief spoke so highly of you. As promised, you and your friends are free to explore, as long as you do not steal any thing."
"You have our word. Come on guys, lets check this place out!"
The soldiers warily moved aside and allowed the other six to pass, whom did so swiftly. The Commandant watched as the the group made their way farther into the temple with a smile. He had a feeling that they were destined for great things.
