Chapter 16: Tomb Raiders Part 2
After biding farewell to the Gravekeeper's Commandant and his clan, the group of seven made their way deeper into the pyramid. It wasn't long before they reached a split pathway, with three different paths to go down.
"Great, now which way do we go?"
"I say we split up. Same groups as before?"
Everyone shrugged, not really caring either way. With that, the team split up, Atticus tagging along with Jaden and Alexis as they went down the right path, Syrus and Hassleberry the left, and Chazz and Bastion the middle.
"Man, this tunnel is so dark! Would it kill them to put in a few extra torches in here!"
Bastion sighed in annoyance at his companion's impatience. However, even he had to agree it could do with some more lighting.
"Relax, Chazz. I'm sure we'll reach the end of the corridor soon. They probably keep the lighting to a minimum to ward off grave robbers."
"Well, it sucks! How do they even manage to move around in here!"
Chazz was so busy complaining that he wasn't watching where he was going, and bumped right into someone.
"Hey, watch where you're going!"
"You're the one who bumped into me!"
"Wait a minute...I recognize that voice...Don Zaloog!"
Sure enough the leader of the Dark Scorpions struck a pose.
"Ah, so we meet again!"
"Yeah yeah, skip the theatrics. Where's the rest of your loser squad?"
"The Dark Scorpions are not losers! And if you must know, they're taking a well deserved rest in my deck. Grave robbing is hard work, you know."
Chazz sighed in annoyance. Now he remembered why he hadn't kept their cards in his deck.
"Well, have fun with that. Come on Bastion, lets scram."
"Wait! Duel me."
"Why, so I can embarrass you? Again?"
Don Zaloog snarled, raising his Duel Disk in anger.
"No one insults the great Don Zaloog! You're going down."
"Fine, if it'll shut you up."
GAME ON!
Don Zaloog: 8000
Chazz: 8000
"Winners first. I'll set one monster face down, and one card face down. Your move."
"You call that a winning move? Step aside, and let me show you how its done. First, I activate Frontline Base, letting me bring out W- Wing Catapult (1300/1500) in attack mode! Next, I summon V- Tiger Jet (1600/1800)! Now my monsters, combine to form VW- Tiger Catapult (2000/2100)! And by discarding one card, your face down becomes face up!"
Don Zaloog gasped as his face down Meanae the Thorn was forced into attack mode (1000/1800).
"Boss, what's going on?"
"I'll tell ya what's going on. You're gonna go bye bye! VW- Tiger Catapult, take out his girlfriend!"
Meanae only had enough time to let out a frightened scream as the missiles ripped her to shreds.
Don Zaloog: 7000
"Meanae! You'll pay for that, Princeton! I activate my trap card, Needle Wall!"
"Ooh, I'm so scared. Take your turn."
"I will. And since its my standby phase, my Needle Wall activates! I roll a dice, and if the number it lands on is equal to a monster zone your Catapult is in, its destroyed!"
"So what? I have a 5 in 6 chance."
A dice materalized in the air and landed on 4, while Chazz's monster was in 3 so his monster was safe, much to Don Zaloog's annoyance.
"You might survive this round, but a good thief always has a trick up his sleeve. I activate Reinforcements of the Army, letting me add a level 4 or lower Warrior to my hand, and I choose Marauding Captain! Next, I summon Marauding Captain, and use his effect to special summon the other one in my hand! Good luck getting out of this. I set one card face down and end my turn."
"If that's your idea of a challenge, then that's just sad. For starters, I activate Fiend's Sanctuary to summon a Metal Fiend Token (0/0). Now get ready for some Deja Vu, because I sacrifice him to summon Armed Dragon Lv. 5!"
"Oh no, not him!"
"Oh yes him! I send X- Head Canon to destroy one of your Marauding Captains!"
The massive dragon let loose a barrage of spike missiles from its back, obliterating one of the soldiers.
"Now my Dragon takes out the remaining one, and my Tiger Catapult will attack you directly!"
In a flurry of swipes and missiles, Don Zaloog's field was clear and he was on the ground.
Don Zaloog: 3800
"I think I've made you suffer enough for now, so I'll end my turn, but not before my Armed Dragon evolves into Lv. 7!"
Don Zaloog grunted as he tore his next card out of his duel disk.
"Alright wise guy, feeling lucky? Go, Dice Roll!"
Once more, the die spun, landing on...
"2! That means your Armed Dragon is gonna get crushed!"
From out of nowhere a wall of spikes swooped past, taking Chazz's Dragon with it.
"Next, I summoned Exiled Force (1000/1000)! But they won't be around for long, because by tributing them I can destroy your Tiger Catapult!"
The rebel group charged at Chazz's monster, smashing it with their weapons while it retaliated with its own. When the dust settled, neither one remained.
"And now I activate Call of the Haunted to bring back Meanae the Thorn, and she has a bone to pick with you. Let him have it!"
"With pleasure!"
Chazz cried out in pain as Meanae's thorn struck him.
Chazz: 7000
"And don't forget, her effect lets me add a Dark Scorpion card to my hand from the deck, and I choose Mustering of the Dark Scorpions! Your move, Chazz."
"With pleasure. First, I activate Card of Demise to fill up my hand. Next, I activate a little spell card known as Level Modulation! Sure, you get two cards, but I get back Armed Dragon Lv. 7 free of charge!"
"So what? He can't attack or use his effect this turn!"
"Who said I summoned him for that? I'm tributing him to bring out Armed Dragon Lv. 10 (3000/2000)!"
"Lv. 10?!"
"That's right, and he won't be alone for long. I activate Monster Reborn to bring back X-Head Canon! Time to finish this. X- Head Canon, take out his Dark Scorpion- Meanae the Thorn!"
Once again Don Zaloog could only watch in horror as his beloved Meanae was blasted to bits before his very eyes.
Don Zaloog: 3000
"Now Armed Dragon Lv. 10, finish him off!"
Don Zaloog had just enough time to cower in fear as the massive dragon swiped him, sending him flying into a wall with an audible thud.
Don Zaloog: 0000
Chazz wins!
Chazz and Bastion walked past him and continued on with their journey.
"Well, that was a pointless detour."
"Agreed."
