Hey guys, here's a new story by yours truly for The Owl House. This is my third story for this fandom. This one will center around the loveable basilisk teen, Vee, and takes place after the episode Yesterday's Lie. Here we go.

It's the day after that stormy night in front of the Noceda residence. Moving forward, things were probably going to get really tough and really emotional. So much so that Vee, now full on magic and can freely walk around town as "Luz," needed some time to herself as Camilla was still at home.

The late afternoon sun helped Vee smile at the scenery, but it doesn't absolve the fear and helplessness she felt when she was in that cage of that magic conspiracy theorist yesterday. She brought her hands to her shoulders, feeling mixed emotions on what Luz's mom must have felt when she saw her in her true form. Vee could only sigh in despair as she felt the negative emotions creep up her spine.

"As if Camilla would want to take care of a basilisk…" Vee said to herself in grief at the thought of a human caring for a demonic creature with a sinister background in magic. She quickly ignored the thought as she headed to the coffee shop to meet up with her friends as it's their regular hangout spot.

When she was about to enter, she thought to herself for a moment.

"Is it okay to talk about my situation to them?" she asked herself, feeling conflicted on bringing her friends in her personal problems and her dual life.

"They're your friends. Don't tell them everything. Just tell them enough to see how they'll respond," Vee answered as she opened the door and saw her friends seated at a booth. "Here goes everything," Vee said to herself with a forced smile, trying to stay calm as she approached the booth.

"Hey guys" Vee greeted her friends in Luz's voice, sitting beside Dani, the girl in black, in the booth.

"Hey Luz" they all replied in unison.

"Luz, I've got to ask, where'd you get those cool contacts you had on yesterday?" Dani asked, Beth and Lance both curious as well.

Vee stared back at her friends. They thought her basilisk eyes were contacts... and wanted some of their own. Well, that's probably the least weird thing she's heard in some time. Vee then cleared her throat.

"Oh, I had them specially made from this one website I know. I'll tell you about it later" Vee lied, "Now, can I ask you something?"

"Sure, girl" Dani shrugged.

"Well, I'd like your advice on something. Something... personal" Vee said while rubbing her arm.

"What is it?" Dani asked with a tilt of her head.

"If you had a secret, a secret that was so important that it was life-changing, would you tell someone," Vee asked as everyone was

"It depends on the secret. If the secret is so important that I'd have to risk something over it, then I wouldn't tell it. At least, until I'm comfortable telling it," Dani answered.

"Yeah, if I had a secret that was so embarrassing, I wouldn't say nothin' to no one. But we're friends here, so telling a personal secret to a crowd of people you trust wouldn't be so bad. We would tease you at first, but we wouldn't bully you over it because it may have some emotional consequences thereafter," the only guy at the booth said with his hair covering his face, making everyone nod their heads in agreement while Vee sighed in relief.

"Thanks for the advice," Vee said with a wholesome smile, although still having mixed feelings about telling them the truth about her.

"Maybe it's best if I tell them a little bit later," Vee suggested to herself as her friends started conversing about Hexes Hold'em and the start of the new upcoming school.

Noceda Residence…

Later, Vee was walking home, thinking over her friends' answers to her question.

"That could've gone better, but it didn't go as bad as I thought," Vee said to herself as she walked down the street with the Sun beginning to set and the street lights starting to turn on.

"Would they truly accept me for who I am as friendly basilisk...?" Vee said as she stared at her human hand before it morphed into her real hand. "...Or would they run away and call for my imprisonment just like the witches on the Boiling Isles?" she added as her real hand made a fist before it morphed back into her human hand.

The thought stayed with her for the duration of her walk as she couldn't find a reason to smile at her situation, leaving poor Vee depressed as she entered her safe haven of a home for dinner with Camilla.

Camilla was preparing supper as Vee was sitting at the kitchen table, depressed about the issue from earlier. Something that Camilla took notice of.

"Vee, are okay?" Camilla asked.

"No, I'm not," Vee asked with honesty as she took in a big sigh. "I feel like I shouldn't be here. Being in your daughter's place while she's stuck on the Boiling Isles. As if I was her replacement..." Vee added, making Camilla look at the cross-dimensional basilisk as if that was a joke gone too far.

"You are NOT replacing Luz. Luz IS my daughter. And in turn, since you look just like her, I guess that makes you my daughter too," Camilla said setting the record straight as if it was no big deal.

That last sentence made Vee's heart stop.

"Vee?" Camelia asked as Vee silently got up and gave the surprised Camilla a big hug as she started crying.

"Please... don't leave me... mom" Vee said in a scared and sad tone, as if Camilla was the last piece of happiness she'll ever have.

"What...?" Camilla said in shock, completely caught off guard at Vee's sentence.

"Please don't leave me, mom," Vee repeated. "I don't want to lose you like how lost my first family."

"What do mean?" Camilla asked, confused.

Vee sniffled and looked at Camilla with teary eyes. She then began telling the older woman her story.

"As you know, I'm a basilisk and I need magic to sustain this form" Vee gestured to herself, "What you don't though is that... my kind went extinct a long time ago, but a handful of us were brought back. Sadly, the rest of my family didn't get that opportunity," she told her.

Camilla looked at the young basilisk, knowing what she meant.

"After I escaped the demon realm, I hoped things would get better for me and they kind of did once I met you. But I just ended up taking the role of Luz's replacement..." Vee said with a small sob, "As far as the kids from camp know, they're friends with Luz, not Vee. I don't have anyone. I'm alone in both worlds!"

"Shh... shh. It's okay, Vee. It's okay. Besides, you aren't alone," Camilla said as she patted her back to calm her down as Vee sniff and wiped her tears away. Camilla put her hands on Vee's shoulders to bestow some wisdom on her.

"You have me. You have Luz. You have your friends that you, yourself, met at camp. So, you are far from being alone. In fact, you have people who care about you and are willing to help you if you need it... just like how I rescued you from that conspiracy theorist," Camilla said as Vee went wide eyed at the knowledge Camilla was sharing with her.

"Really?" Vee said, realizing she made more of an impact than she previously thought.

"Yeah. You may have been alone from where you came from, but you are not alone here. You have friends. And you have a family, me and Luz," Camilla said as Vee began to cry again as Camilla brought her in for another hug.

"Are you... saying what I think you're saying?" Vee asked.

"That's right, Vee..." Camilla said, affectionately stroking her fingers through the girl's hair.

Camilla had to ask the ultimate question to a lone child with no families ties to hold her down or hold her back.

"Vee… would you like to be a part of the Noceda family?" Camilla asked.

There was silence between the two. Both were curious about Vee's response to the question. In fact, Vee was inwardly questioning herself on how to respond to the question...until Vee started fainting onto the ground and Camilla immediately had to catch her.

"¡Ay Dios mío! (Oh, my god!) Vee!" Camilla shouts as she managed to scoop Vee up and off her feet and steady her out before her head could hit the floor. "Are you okay?" Camilla asked as Vee was able to stand again.

"Yeah. I'm just so... happy that you asked that question... because you already know the answer," Vee said with a bright smile as Camilla could only sport a surprised look on her face before she smiled brightly as she picked up Vee and spun her around, positively freaking out that she has a new member to her family. Not to mention it was like adopting Luz's twin sister from afar.

After calming down and putting Vee back down, Camilla had to start thinking about adoption papers.

"Huh. Vee Noceda. That does have a nice ring to it," Vee said as Camilla could only smile at her new daughter as she continued making dinner.

"So, you're ok with me being a part of your family?" Vee asked as she got into bed, choosing to lie in the bottom bunk if the bunk bed.

"Of course! I'm sure Luz would love to have a sister," Camilla smiling, sitting on the edge of the bed, "I mean, once Luz comes back, I'll have to explain to the rest of the family and maybe a few others why she suddenly has twin, but we'll cross that bridge when we get to it" she quickly added, and then kissing the basilisk girl's forehead. She got up and walked over to the doorframe, "Goodnight… mija" she smiled at Vee.

"Goodnight… mom" Vee smiled back, Camilla shutting off the light as she shut the door to her second daughter's room.

Camilla inhaled deeply then exhaled, smiling to herself as she said, "Looks like our family just got a little bigger, Luz"

Alright, first chapter done. This story was a suggestion from IrishKatana and is loosely based on the webcomic The Adventures of Vee… though this story will be different from that.

I probably could've had Vee and Camilla's relationship develop a bit more before Camilla made Vee a part of her family but that would've taken several chapters. Besides, I think they get along pretty well, and I'm sure Camilla already loves Vee for who she is. Plus, this will give us a chance to see how Camilla's mother/daughter relationship compares to the one she has with Luz.

If you have ideas for future chapters, say them in a review or feel free to message me.

This chapter was co-written with Clock King 10.
