Bloody Mary Part 1
Elena and Brie were sitting in the back seat of the impala when they noticed that Sam was having another one of his nightmares. Sam and Dean had filled them into on what happened to their mom and Sam's girlfriend Jessica, and how now they were looking for their father who raised them as hunters, while looking for the thing that killed their mom and Jessica.
"Sam wake up!" Dean said shaking Sam's shoulder to wake him up from the nightmare. Brie felt bad for Sam and wanted to help him, but he didn't want to talk about the nightmares with either of them. Sam took a few breaths as he looked around confused.
"I take it I was having a nightmare" Sam asked.
"Yeah, another one" Dean replied.
"Hey, at least I got some sleep" Sam said trying to make light of the conversation.
"You know, sooner or later we're gonna have to talk about this" Dean said, looking over at Sam. Looking worried about his brother.
Brie and Elena stayed quiet in the back as they didn't want to get involved in their conversation. Brie wanted to say something to try and make things better but she thought she that maybe that was a conversation for another time. Sam changes the conversation "Are we here?"
"Yup. Welcome to Toledo, Ohio"
Sam picks up a newspaper with Steven Shoemakers obituary circled. "So what do you think happened to this guy?"
"Thats what we are going to find out" Dean said getting out the car as the others followed him.
They all walked into the morgue hoping to get a look at the body to figure out what happened. This wasn't the first time Brie and Elena had seen a dead body, so they had to try disguise it making it look like they haven't seen one in their lifetime. When Brie walked into the room there was a man sitting at the desk reading some paperwork. She took note of a doctor's name as she passed an empty desk.
"Hey," he said looking up at you four. "Can I help you?" he asked wondering why they were here.
"Yeah, we're the med students." Dean said coming up with a cover for them.
"Sorry?" he asked not knowing what Dean was talking about.
"Oh, Dr. Fliglavitch didn't tell you?" Brie spoke up playing off of what Dean said. "We talked to him on the phone. We're from Ohio state. He's supposed to show us the Shoemaker corpse. It's for our paper."
"Well, I'm sorry, he's at lunch." The man said.
"Oh, he said" Dean stops "Oh, well, you know, it doesn't matter. You don't mind showing us the body, do you?" Dean asked trying to get him to let them in.
"Sorry I can't doc will be back in an hour." he said shrugging his shoulders. "You can wait for him, if you want."
"An hour, oh we gotta be heading back to Columbus." Dean said looking at Brie, Elena and Sam.
"Yeah," Sam said finally going along with their plan as they all looked at each other.
"Look this paper is like half our grade, so if you don't mind helping us out we would be really grateful." Elena said smiling at him giving the best puppy dog look she could.
"Look, guys no," he said droning at them. Dean chuckled a bit before turning around.
"I'm gonna hit him in his face, I swear." Dean said facing Sam, Elena and Brie, getting tired of this guy. Sam hits Dean on the arm. He steps in front of Dean and opens his wallet and pulls out some twenties. He lays a few of them, at least five, down on the morgue tech's desk.
The morgue tech picks up the the money and gets up "Follow me"
Dean grabs Sam when Sam tries to follow "Dude, I earned that money"
"You won it in a poker game" Sam follows the morgue tech. Dean sighs as Brie walks passed him patting him on the shoulder following, Sam and Elena into the other room "Now the newspaper said his daughter found him. She said his eyes were bleeding"
The morgue tech pulls back the sheet over Steven's face "More than that. They practically liquefied"
"Any sign of a struggle? Maybe somebody did it to him?" Sam asks as he examines the corpses face. Brie and Elena looked over at the body, pretending to look squeamish.
He shakes his head as he looks up at them from the body "Nope. Besides the daughter, he was all alone"
"What's the official cause of death" Brie asks.
"Ah, Doc's not sure. He's thinking massive stroke, maybe an aneurysm? Something burst up in there, that's for sure" While listening to him Brie took another glance at the corpse and noticed the streams of liquid that fell from his eyes down the sides of his face.
"What do you mean?" Brie says looking up as she didn't want to look at the body anymore.
"Intense cerebral bleeding. This guy had more blood in his skull than anyone I've ever seen"
"The eyes, what would cause something like that?" Sam asked him.
"Capillaries can burst. See a lot of bloodshot eyes with stroke victims" the guy answered.
"Yeah? You ever see exploding eyeballs?" Dean asked looking from the body to the morgue tech.
"That's a first for me, but hey, I'm not the Doctor" the guy said.
"Hey, think we could take a look at that police report? You know for our paper" Dean asked gesturing towards the body.
"I'm not really supposed to show you that" He said implying that he was wanting more money. Sam, annoyed, pulls out his wallet.
Dean and Sam walk into the funeral. There is a picture of Steven Shoemaker on the desk. The attendees are all men in black suits and women in black dresses, except Dean and Sam "Feel like we're underdressed" Dean commented trying not stand out anymore than they already have.
"Think that's because you's are" They heard a voice from behind them. Sam and Dean turn around and see Elena and Brie walking towards them in black dresses and black heels.
"Wow" Dean commented "You's scrub up well" he smirked looking them both up and down one at a time.
"Why thank you Dean. Was expecting one of your crude remarks but I am pleasantly surprised" Brie smiles as she walks passed the two brothers. Sam and Dean both check her out as they watch her walk out towards the garden.
Elena rolls her eyes "Boys" she says walking passed them. She turns around quickly "Actually you both go first, don't want to be checked out like you's done with Brie" She says walking back towards the boys and pushing them in front of her for them to walk. They keep walking through the house towards the back. They walk outside to see Brie talking to a man who points her towards Donna and Lily Shoemaker, who are with their friends Jill and Charlie.
"You must be Donna, right?" Brie asks with a small smile on her face. Donna nods as Brie apologised for her dad's death. She thanks her as Sam, Elena and Dean walk up "I'm Brie and this is Sam, Elena and Dean. We worked with your dad" Brie says coming up with an excuse to talk to her.
Donna looks at Charlie unsure whether or not to believe her "You did?" Donna asks as she looks back at Brie.
Brie nods her head "Yeah. This whole thing. I mean, a stroke"
"I don't think she really wants to talk about this right now" her blonde friend says. Donna looks at Charlie and says she is fine to talk about it. "Were there any symptoms? Dizziness? Migraines?"
Donna shakes her head replying no as Lily turns around "That's because it wasn't a stroke"
"Lily, don't say that" Donna says to Lily. "I'm sorry, she's just upset" Donna says trying to excuse her sister.
"No, it happened because of me" Lily said.
"Sweetie, it didn't" Donna says to her sister.
"Lily" Sam gets down on eye level with Lily "Why would you say something like that?"
"Right before he died, I said it" Brie and Dean exchanged looks as they watched Sam talk to Lily.
"You said what?" Sam asked her.
"Bloody Mary, three times in the bathroom mirror" Elena looks at Lily as she took a pause "She took his eyes, that's what she does"
"That's not why dad died. This isn't your fault." Donna said to Lily causing Lily to look back at her.
"I think your sister's right, Lily," Dean said. "There's no way it could have been Bloody Mary. Your dad didn't say it, did he?"
"No, I don't think so," Lily replied as you all looked at her. Dean just gave her a little smile.
After the guys were done talking to the girls they decided to investigate the bathroom their father died in. Elena and Brie stayed downstairs to keep an eye on Donna and her friends. Upstairs, Sam pushes the door open. There is still some dried blood on the floor "The Bloody Mary legend. Dad ever find any evidence that it was a real thing?"
"Not that I know of" Dean walks into the bathroom and Sam stoops to the floor and touches the dried blood.
"I mean, everywhere else all over the country, kids will play Bloody Mary, and as far as we know, nobody dies from it"
"Yeah, well, maybe everywhere it's just a story, but here it's actually happening"
"The place where the legend began?"Dean shrugs and opens the medicine cabinet "But according to the legend, the person who says" Sam stops and looks at the medicine cabinet mirror, which now faces him, and closes it "The person who says you know what gets it. But here-
Dean interrupts him "Shoemaker gets it instead, yeah. Never heard anything like that before. Still, the guy did die right in front of the mirror and the daughter's right. The way the legend goes, you know who scratches your eyes out"
"It's worth checking into," Sam said as they both nodded to each other. Suddenly they heard a set of heels clicking on the floor outside the bathroom. Dean walks into the hall to see who it was. It turned out to be one of Donna's friends.
"What are you doing up here?" she asked watching them suspiciously.
"We had to go to the bathroom," Dean said quickly looking over at Sam.
"Who are you?" she asked looking between the two of them.
"Like we said downstairs, we worked with Donna's Dad," Dean replied trying to keep their cover.
"He was a day trader or something, he worked by himself," she said back to Dean. "And all those weird questions downstairs, what was that?" she said as she kept on questioning."So you tell me what's going on or I start screaming." She threatened as she crossed her arms across her chest.
"All right, all right. We think something happened to Donna's dad." Sam said. Were they really going to tell her the truth.
"Yeah, a stroke," she said.
"That's not the sign of a typical stroke," Sam said. She paused for a moment wondering what Sam meant. "We think it might be something else."
"Like what?" she asked as she put her hand against the wall.
"Honestly, we don't know yet," Sam answered. She gave him a look that said she didn't like his answer. "But we don't want it to happen to anyone else. That's the truth."
"So, if you're gonna scream, go right ahead," Dean said to her.
"Who are you, cops?" she asked.
"Something like that," Dean replied letting a bit of a smile loose.
"I'll tell you what, here. If you think of anything, you or your friends notice anything strange, out of the ordinary, just give us a call," Sam said as he wrote one of their phone numbers down on a piece of paper and handed it to her. Then he walked passed her with Dean following him.
Sam and Dean walked back into the garden to find Elena and Brie standing in the corner with glasses in their hands. Dean walks up to them and pulls Brie by the arm pulling her away from the couple they were standing behind Brie yelps as she tries to shake Dean off her "What the hell dean?" She says rubbing her arm. Elena and Sam follow them.
"Dean, you don't man handle a girl" Sam says pulling Dean off Brie.
Dean stares at Brie and then at Elena "You's were meant to be watching Donna and her friends and made sure they weren't to come upstairs"
"What are you talking about?" Brie asks as she looks over at Donna. "They are all still sitting where we left them?"
"Minus one" Dean points towards Charlie who walks out the back door. She looks over as she see's Brie and Dean looking over at her. She ignores the looks and walks over to Lily and Donna.
"We didn't see her leave" Elena jumps to Brie's defence.
Dean looks over at Elena "Well our cover was almost blown as she threatened to scream bloody murder unless we talked"
Brie looked over at Sam who gave her a quick nod before she looked back at Dean "Well we never heard any screaming so you obviously handed the situation"
"Yeah, no thanks to you" Dean stares her down as Brie glares at him back.
"There's not point, pointing fingers Dean. Come on we need to go to the library to find out more about this Bloody Mary" Sam says trying to diffuse the situation.
They left the Shoemaker home and went to the local library to get find research on the case. "Alright, say bloody Mary is really haunting this town. There's gonna be some sort of proof" Dean said as they followed them into the library. "A local woman who died nasty."
"Yeah, but a legend this widespread, it's hard. There's like 50 versions of who she actually is. One story says she's a witch, another says she's a mutilated bride. There's a lot more." Sam explained as they headed towards the computer room.
"So, what are we supposed to be looking for, then?" Elena asked wanting to help them out. Brie stood next to Elena, not wanting to speak so she just let them get on with it.
"Well, every version's got a few things in common. It's always a woman named Mary, and she always dies right in front of a mirror. So we've got to search local newspapers, public records as far back as they go, see if we can find a Mary who fits the bill." Sam explained as they stopped walking.
"Well, that sounds annoying," Dean replied to him.
"It should be fine, as long as we" Elena started to say as they looked at the computers discovering that they were all out of order. "Never mind, this is going to be really annoying."
