Sam and Dean are sleeping. Dean's phone rings but he does not wake up. Sam wakes up "Dean" Sam says looking over at Dean who still doesn't wake up. Sam answers the phone "Hello?"

"Sam, is that you?"

Sam sits up in bed "Dad? Are you hurt?"

"I'm fine" John says on the other end of the phone.

"We've been looking for you everywhere. We didn't know where you were, if you were okay" Sam says sounding concerned.

"Sammy, I'm all right. What about you and Dean?" John asks about his boys.

"We're fine. Dad, where are you?" Dean wakes up and sits up in bed when he hears Sam say dad.

"Sorry, kiddo, I can't tell you that"

Sam scoffs "What? Why not?"

"Is that Dad?" Dean asks Sam.

"Look, I know this is hard for you to understand. You're just gonna have to trust me on this"

"You're after it, aren't you? The thing that kill Mom"

"Yeah" John nods on the phone "It's a demon, Sam"

"A demon? You know for sure?" Sam questions.

"A demon?" Dean raises his eyebrow "What's he saying?"

"I do. Listen, Sammy, I also know what happened to your girlfriend. I'm so sorry. I would've done anything to protect you from that"

"You know where it is?" Sam asks.

"Yeah, I think I'm finally closing in on it"

"Let us help" Sam pleaded.

"You can't. You can't be any part of it" John listens as Sam argues back "Listen, Sammy, that's why I'm calling. You and your brother you gotta stop looking for me. Alright, now I need you to write down these names"

"Names? What names? Dad talk to me, tell me what's going on"

"Look, we don't have time for this. This is bigger than you think, they're everywhere. Even us talking right now, it's not safe. I have given you an order. Now, you stop following me and you do your job. You understand me? Now, take down these names" John demands to Sam but Sam is still not letting it go.

Dean grabs the phone from Sam "Dad, it's me. Where are you?" Elena and Brie walk into their hotel room when they see Dean on the phone "Yes, sir, yeah I got a pen. What are their names?"

After Dean ends the call with his dad, they are in the impala on the way to their next case. Sam asks "Alright so the names Dad gave us they're all couples?" Sam looks down at the list.

"Three different couples. All went missing" Dean replies

"And they're all from different towns? Different states?" Elena asks.

"That's right. You got Washington, New York, Colorado. Each couple took a road trip cross-country. None of them arrived at their destination, and none of them were ever heard from again" Dean says.

"Well, it's a big country, Dean. They could've disappeared anywhere" Sam points out.

"Yeah, could've. But each one's route took 'em to the Same part of Indiana. Always on the second week of April. One year after another after another" Dean says.

"This is the second week of April" Brie points out as Dean nods his head "So, your dad is sending us to Indiana to go hunting for something before another couple vanishes?"

"Yahtzee. Can you imagine putting together a pattern like this? All the different obits Dad had to go through? The man's a master" Sam looks annoyed, pulls over to the side of the road and turns off the car "What are you doing?"

"We're not going to Indiana" Sam says

Dean raises an eyebrow "We're not?

Sam shakes his head "No. We're going to California. Dad called from a payphone. Sacramento area code"

Dean tries to protest "Dean if this demon killed Mom and Jess, and Dad's closing in we've gotta be there. We've gotta help" Sam says.

"Dad doesn't want our help"

"I don't care"

"He's given us an order"

"I don't care. We don't always have to do what he says" Sam says firmly.

"Sam, Dad is asking us to work jobs, to save lives, it's important" Dean says.

"Alright, I understand, believe me, I understand. But I'm talking one week here, man, to get answers. To get revenge"

Dean turns to Sam "Alright, look, I know how you feel"

"Do you?" Dean seems shocked at Sam's tone "How old were you when Mom died? Four? Jess died six months ago. How the hell would you know how I feel?"

"Dad said it wasn't safe. For any of us. I mean, he obviously knows something that we don't, so if he says to stay away, we stay away"

"I don't understand the blind faith you have in the man. I mean, it's like you don't even question him" Dean says.

"Yeah, it's called being a good son!" Sam, angry, gets out of the car. Dean also gets out and watches Sam unloading things from the trunk. Elena and Brie stay in the car as they didn't want to get involved "You're a selfish bastard, you know that? You just do whatever you want. Don't care what anybody thinks"

"That's what you really think?" Sam asks.

"Yes, it is" Dean nods

"Well, then this selfish bastard is going to California" He puts on his backpack and starts walking away

"Come on, you're not serious" Dean says.

"I am serious" Sam shouts back.

"It's the middle of the night! Hey, I'm taking off, I will leave your ass, you hear me?" Dean threatens.

Sam stops walking and turns around "That's what I want you to do" They stare at each other for a few seconds, waiting.

"We can't just leave Sam on his own" Brie says to Elena who are still in the car waiting.

"Think one of us should go with him?" Elena asks.

"One of us goes with Sam and the other with Dean. Both talk some sense in them and try get them back together again"

"So who goes with who?" Elena asks as Brie suggests rock, paper, scissors. Loser stays with Dean.

"Goodbye, Sam" He closes the trunk as Elena gets out the car. "Elena?" Dean says.

"I am gonna go with Sam. Don't want him alone" She says as she walks over to Sam. Dean looks inside the car to see Brie sitting waiting. Looks like she was with him. Dean gets in the car and drives away. Sam and Elena watch him leave then they start walking away.

Sam and Elena are standing on the side of the road. Sam turns around and sees a young girl with short blonde hair, Meg, sitting with her back to them. She is listening to music "Hey" Elena turns to see who Sam was talking to. The women couldn't hear him. He walks over to her and puts his hand on her shoulder. She jumps and takes off her headphones "You scared the hell outta me"

"I'm sorry. I just thought you might need some help" Sam apologies.

Meg shakes her head "No, I'm good, thanks"

"Uh, so where you headed?" Sam asks.

"No offense, but no way I'm telling you"

"Why not?" Sam asks.

"You could be some kind of freak. I mean, you are hitchhiking" She says.

"Well, so are you" Meg laughs.

A van honks its horn and pulls over "Need a ride"

Sam and Meg both say "Yeah"

"Just them. I ain't takin' you" He says to Sam. Elena looks at the driver and scoffs before taking a step back.

Meg gathers her things and gets in the van. "You trust shady van guy and not me?"

"Definitely" They drive away.

"You sure they didn't stop for gas or something" Harley shows the pictures to Stacy. Stacy shakes her head. "Nope, don't remember 'em. You said they were friends of yours?"

"That's right"

Emily comes downstairs carrying some boxes "Did the guy have a tattoo?"

"Yes, he did"

Emily puts the boxes on the counter and looks at the picture of Vince "You remember? They were just married"

Harley suddenly starts remembering "You're right. They did stop for gas. Weren't here more than ten minutes"

"You remember anything else?" Brie asks.

"I told 'em how to get back to the Interstate. They left town" Harley says.

"Could you point us in that Same direction?" Dean asks.

They are driving by the orchard when he hears a noise coming from the backseat "What the hell?" He pulls over and reaches into his bag. He pulls out the EMF meter, which is beeping frantically

They get out the car and as they are walking around they see the scarecrow on its post. He walks over to it and looks at it for a second "Dude, you fugly" The scarecrow doesn't move. Dean notices a sickle in the scarecrow's hand and a design on its arm. Dean takes a ladder from a nearby tree and climbs to the top so that he is eye level with the scarecrow. He moves its clothing and recognizes the design from Vince's tattoo. He pulls out Vince's flyer and compares the designs, which are exactly the Same. He looks at the scarecrow again "Nice tat"

Dean and Brie pull up in his car and they get out. Emily is standing by the gas pumps "You're back"

"Never left"

"Still looking for your friends?"

Dean nods as he is noticing Emily's nameplate necklace "You mind fillin' her up there, Emily?" She grabs a pump and starts filling up Dean's tank "So, you grew up here?"

"I came here when I was thirteen. I lost my parents. Car accident. My aunt and uncle took me in."

"They're nice people"

"Everybody's nice here" Emily points out.

"So, what, it's the perfect little town?"

"Well, you know, it's the boonies. But I love it. I mean, the towns around us, people are losing their homes, their farms. But here, it's almost like we're blessed"

Dean nods "Hey, you been out to the orchard? You seen that scarecrow?"

"Yeah, it creeps me out" Emily shudders as Dean laughs.

"Whose is it?" Brie asks.

Emily shrugs her shoulders "I don't know. It's just always been there"

Dean nods towards a red van parked by the garage "That your aunt and uncle's?"

"Customer has some car troubles"

"It's not a couple, is it? A guy and a girl?"

Emily nods "Mmhmm" Dean looks concerned.
