Darkness, that's all Chase saw around him, what did it mean? The pup walked and walked until he saw a light in the distance and a pup?
He got closer and closer to the pup and it turned out to be him, as he saw himself turn around, he noticed something different, it was his eyes, no longer were they the brown eyes he normally had, they were slit and bright yellow.
The pup backed up in fear as the other bared his sharp teeth at him.
"Who are you?!" Chase yelled out.
"You...I'm you!" His other self yelled out as he bit down on the pup, waking him up from his nightmare.
"Ah!" Chase yelled out as he realized that it was just a nightmare. "Oh...oh thank goodness." Chase said through breaths.
The pup looked to his side and noticed Skye, sleeping gently against him. He didn't want to wake up the pup but he didn't have much of a choice.
"Skye..." Chase whispered as he nudged the pup.
"Chase...don't go..." Skye mumbled in her sleep.
Chase was confused until he remembered what happened last night, that attack with that wolf really did a number on him.
"She must've gotten really scared..." Chase nuzzled Skye. "It's okay Skye, I'm still here." Chase smiled.
Skye opened her eyes and met Chase's eyes.
"Hey, sleepy head, how're you feeling?" Chase asked.
"I should be asking you the same thing." Skye replied. "You scared me, scared us all."
"I know, thankfully you and the pups helped." Chase said as he got up, no problem.
"Wait!" Skye yelled out.
"What? What?" Chase asked with confusion.
"Your injury, you should take it slow." Skye stated.
"Should I? I don't really feel anymore pain, I feel fine!" Chase exclaimed.
"Well, we should wait for Marshall to check it out, to see if you're really fine." Skye suggested.
"Yeah, but I'm starving, you think the rest of the pups are up yet?" Chase asked.
"They should be up soon." Skye answered.
"Well I hope so, I'm starving!" Chase began to sniff around the tubes filled with pup treats.
As the pup continued on, the elevator to the Lookout opened, revealing Ryder, who immediately noticed Chase.
"Woah, woah! Chase, take it easy bud! Did you forget about what happened last night?" Ryder asked as he went up to the pup and commanded him to stop.
"Yeah, but I'm starving Ryder!" Chase whined.
"It doesn't mean you shouldn't risk your injuries like that." Ryder petted the pup. "Come on, I'll get Marshall to check on your injury and then I'll feed you pups."
"Thanks, Ryder!" Chase thanked as he wagged his tail.
The boy went outside and called for the pups, who were just beginning to wake up.
Marshall came in, along with the others as they greeted Chase, telling him how worried they were last night and how good it was to see him okay.
"Alright, Chase, I'm gonna remove your bandages and check on your injury, if anything, just yelp..." Marshall told the Shepherd. "For help." The Dalmatian snickered at his own little joke as the room was silent. "Right. Not funny. Alrighty then, here we go."
"Ok, but I'm telling you, I'm fine." Chase assured the Dalmatian.
"Can never be too sure." Marshall said as he cut off the bandages with his claw.
The pups prepared for the worst as they saw the bloodied bandage fall to the ground, but they didn't expect this.
"Woah...it's...it's healed." Marshall stated as he examined the wound.
"What? How?" Ryder asked as he finished filling up the pups bowls and went to check it for himself.
"I don't know, that should normally take at least a couple of weeks." Marshall said. "It looks like it's been healed for a long time!"
"But the attack happened last night." Skye stated.
"I know but...I don't know what happened, either way, he's fine now." Marshall said.
"I told you! Now where is my bowl, I'm starving!" Chase ran to where his and the other pup's bowls were.
"Guess he was right, go on pups, eat your breakfast, I'll be in the garage if you need me." Ryder left the Lookout and left the pups by themselves.
The pups went to their bowls and noticed Chase basically finishing his bowl in under ten seconds, faster than Rubble has ever eaten.
They looked at Chase with confusion and slight worry.
The Shepherd noticed this and called them out. "Why are you pups looking at me like that? Do I have something on my muzzle?" Chase asked.
"No...Chase, are you sure you're okay?" Skye asked.
"I keep telling you pups, I'm fine, what's wrong?" Chase asked in return.
"Well, you're just going to ignore the fact that you just ate all that pup food that fast? Not even Rubble could eat that fast." Rocky stated.
"Hey!"
"You understand what I'm saying though right?" Rocky asked.
"I guess, I'm just hungry pups, that's all. Now that I'm filled up, I'm feeling better." Chase assured the pups.
The pups decided to shrug it off and side with the Shepherd.
"You dudes up for tag?" Zuma asked.
"Yeah, let's go!" Rocky motioned for the pups to follow him outside.
As the pups went outside, Skye pulled Chase back in the Lookout to ask him a question.
"Chase...can I ask you something?" Skye asked.
"Sure...what is it?" Chase replied.
"Last night, before that wolf attacked us, what were you going to tell me?" Skye asked.
Chase began to get nervous from the question, he wanted to reveal his feelings last night but he obviously couldn't, and right now wasn't a good time. The pup wanted to plan it out perfectly but it seemed like that wasn't an option.
"Uh...I...I wanted to tell you...I wanted to tell you how much--." Chase was cut off by Rocky, who was calling the two.
"Hey, you two! Let's go! We're not starting without you!" Rocky yelled out.
The two looked at the mix. "Yeah! Just give us a second Rocky! I guess I'll tell you some other time, come on, you know how impatient Rocky can be." Chase led on as Skye slowly trailed behind him.
"Yeah..."
As the pups finally reached the others, the mix began to explain the usual rules, that was until they were interrupted by a familiar beeping.
"Paw Patrol! To the Lookout!"
"Oh come on!" Rocky whined as the pups shared some snickers back and forth.
"Ryder needs us, come on let's go!" Chase lead on as the pups followed behind.
As the pups reached the elevator, Skye shot a glance at Chase, noticing that the pup was a bit more furrier than usual, the Cockapoo brushed it off rather quickly as there was an emergency.
The pups arrived at the top of the Lookout, with Chase hopping out first, leading the pups behind him.
"Paw Patrol, ready for action, Ryder sir!" Chase yelled out.
"Thanks for coming so quickly pups, Katie just told me that her parlor was vandalized last night!" Ryder briefly explained.
"What?"
"Who would do that?"
"The odd thing is, is that it wasn't a person, it was an animal, it's up to us to find out what exactly caused it. So for this mission I'll need...Chase, I need your spy gear to track down any thing that the animal may have left behind!" Ryder stated.
"Chase is on the case!" The Shepherd said his signature catchphrase.
"I'll also need Skye, use your helicopter to keep an eye out for anything suspicious around the area!"
"This pup's gotta fly!" Skye yelped as she did her backflip.
"Lastly, I'll need Rocky to help out with any damages that the animal may have caused while it was there!"
"Green means go!" Rocky barked.
"Alright! Paw Patrol is on a roll!" Ryder yelled out as the pups headed down the slide and into their assigned vehicles as the boy took the pole to his ATV.
After some time, the team finally made it to Katie's. Ryder got out of his ATV and waved at Katie, who was holding Cali with worry in her eyes.
"Thank goodness you're here, come on, I'll show you the damage." Katie lead on as Ryder and the pups followed behind.
Ryder and the pups looked at the extensive damage with wide eyes.
"Woah, what in the world did this?" Rocky asked.
"That's what Chase is here for, see if you can find something buddy!" Ryder ordered.
"You got it, Ryder! Ruff, goggles!" Chase barked but nothing happened. "Come on! Ruff, goggles!" Nothing happened.
"Huh, looks like somethings wrong with your spy gear." Ryder stated.
"It's no problem, I still got my nose!" Chase optimistically assured as he started sniffing around for clues.
"So, Katie, did you get a glimpse on whatever caused this?" Ryder asked as he examined the damage.
"No, it's a good thing I wasn't here last night, Cali and I could've gotten really hurt." Katie replied.
"Yeah, you think it was just—?" Ryder was cut off by his pup pad ringing. "Give me a second, Katie. Hello, Ryder here."
"Oh, Ryder, thank the heavens you picked up. Something terrible happened at the farm! Some of my animals were killed!" The voice that was heard was Farmer Al's.
"We're on our way, Farmer Al!" Ryder assured. "Chase, find anything?"
"Nothing, Ryder, sir." Chase replied.
"Alright, come on, you and Skye are with me, Rocky fix up the damage while we check out Farmer Al's emergency." Ryder ordered.
"You got it Ryder!" The mix obeyed.
As the trio was about to head to the farm, they were stopped by Katie.
"Ryder, wait!" Katie called out.
"What is it, Katie?" Ryder asked.
"Take this, it's a tranquilizer gun, use it just in case you find the animal that caused this, I don't think it's going to be in a friendly mood if it did all this." Katie stated.
"Thanks, Katie. Come on you two!" Ryder lead on as Rocky stayed behind.
"Man, first Chase gets attacked by a wolf and now this? We can't catch a break." Rocky said as he examined the damage to the parlor.
"Chase was attacked?" Katie asked.
"Yeah, I wasn't there but from what Skye told me, he got in front of her just before the wolf attacked and took the hit, he came back with a big scratch on his side." Rocky explained.
"Wasn't bad right? I mean he looked fine when you got here." Katie stated.
"That's the odd thing, Marshall patched him up and when he checked the wound earlier this morning, it was healed up." Rocky added.
"That's strange, what do you think about it?" Katie asked.
"While I think it is strange, I'm just happy that him and Skye are okay." Rocky answered.
"Awww, you're so sweet Rocky." Katie petted the mix as she helped out with fixing the damages.
The trio finally arrived at Farmer Al's, looking at the mess that Farmer Al told them about.
"Oh man, look at this place." Chase heard Skye say through his pup tag.
"Farmer Al!" Ryder called out as he and the pups stopped their vehicles. "You two okay?" Ryder asked.
"We're fine Ryder but look at this, look at the mess." Farmer Al said with sorrow. "Something attacked my sheep last night, don't know what it was but it was big." Farmer Al led the pups to the damaged fence with blood strewn about the small dirt patches.
Ryder and Skye turned away in disgust except for Chase, who didn't seem to mind it, he eyed it like it was something he craved.
"Farmer Al, did you see what attacked your sheep?" Ryder asked.
"No clue, Ryder, all I remember seeing is a glimpse, looked like a wolf or something, didn't think there were any in Adventure Bay. It was big so it could've been a bear but they never got this close before." Farmer Al answered.
"Maybe it was a bear, Katie's parlor was vandalized last night, she said the same thing." Ryder stated.
"Well if it's a bear then it must be something going on in the woods if it traveled into the town to look for food." Farmer Al theorized.
"We'll check it out, Rocky should be on his way to fix up your fence." Ryder said.
"Don't worry about the fence Ryder, I can handle it, just try to find whatever did this so my animals can be safe." Farmer Al pleaded.
"We'll try, Chase see if you can—? Chase?" Ryder called out to the pup.
Ryder took notice of the pups trance like state and snapped his fingers in front of the Shepherd, snapping him out of it.
"You okay buddy?" Ryder asked.
"Yeah...yeah I'm fine. You want me to look around for clues?" Chase asked.
"Yeah, Skye, see if you can spot anything from up there." Ryder ordered.
"You got it." Skye obeyed as she got back in her helicopter.
Chase sniffed around for anything that could help him out but something wasn't going right, the scent of the blood was messing with him, making the pup crave more of it. The Shepherd rubbed his muzzle as he felt a stinging pain on it.
"Find anything yet Chase?" Chase heard Skye's voice.
"Nothing yet, my nose is playing tricks on me, can't get a good scent." Chase said with some irritation.
"That's not good, go tell Ryder about it, I'll keep looking around." Skye suggested.
"Alright." Chase sighed.
The pup always hated not being able to help, it made him feel like he was messing up on purpose, made him feel useless. Nevertheless, the Shepherd approached the boy with lowered ears.
"Ryder, sir?" The Shepherd called out.
The boy turned to see the Shepherd.
"What is it, Chase? Did you get a scent yet?" Ryder asked.
"I couldn't, my nose is messing with me, every time I try to get a scent...I can't really explain it, sir." Chase whined.
"Don't worry about it, Chase, whatever attacked the farm probably doesn't like being around during the day time. Ryder, Yumi and I can handle the damage but if we find anything, we'll call you first thing, okay?" Farmer Al assured.
"Alright, be careful Farmer Al, whatever attacked your farm might come back." Ryder stated. "Come on pups, we're heading back to the Lookout." Ryder pulled out his pup tag and called Rocky to let him know.
Night gathered around Adventure Bay as the town was lit by the stars and moonlight, the pups were getting ready to go to sleep as they got in their pup houses.
As the Shepherd was about to enter his pup house, he heard a familiar voice behind him.
"Hi, Chase." Skye greeted.
Chase rubbed his head, not as a sign of annoyance from the Cockapoo but rather a sharp pain he felt.
"Oh...hey Skye." Chase greeted the Cockapoo.
"Are you okay, Chase? You don't look so good." Skye worried.
"I'm...I'm fine, it's nothing sleep can't fix, what was it that you wanted?" Chase asked.
"Well, it was about what you were going to tell me but that can wait, I want you to rest." Skye said.
"You don't gotta tell me twice, I'll see you in the morning, Skye." Chase lazily waved as he went inside his pup house, hearing Skye's footsteps dissipate over time.
The pup was feeling dizzy, couldn't stand straight without stumbling.
The pup lied down and tried closing his eyes, not knowing what's about to come.
