It didn't take long for the two to get close after that. Between projects and the fact that they were both quickly elected to be the student council chairman and vice-chairman, the two had a lot of work to do together. Teachers and their schoolmates alike could tell that there seemed to be some chemistry between the two, with Amber being able to get Akashi to speak his mind just a little more with other people and Akashi being able to help her better articulate her ideas and thoughts. If anything, Amber helped him with his emotions while he helped her in a more academic sense.
Now, you might be thinking, "Okay so she's smart and she's from a prestigious family. Akashi found her interesting just like that?" Definitely not! He has always been observing her and the fact that he thought she looked like the :3 emoji was no coincidence. Amber was indeed a friendly person but under that, he knew there was something more. She reminded him of the Cheshire cat from Alice in Wonderland and he couldn't understand exactly why he felt she was like that until he overheard her talking to one of her clients on the phone. Her tone was still warm, but her words were cold as ice.
Whoever she was talking to must have angered her to the point where she had said, "If you would not like to rely on our services to choose your next investment because of this matter, you may find a different broker. But how can you, when you're going to declare bankruptcy soon and you wouldn't be able to afford another broker? It's a little pathetic you're refusing our help just because I was put in charge of helping you. I can't tell if you're being sexist or you're undermining me because of my age. You do know that I've been assisting with providing client information since I was in middle school, right?"
Akashi was taken aback, to say the least. He was walking behind her at that time, and he never brought up what he overheard that day. He didn't see a point in telling anyone that the angel of Rakuzan High was not as angelic as she seemed.
"Akaaaashi," the girl groaned in front of him, snapping him back to the present.
"Yes?"
"You weren't even listening!"
"Well, now I am."
"I'm not continuing until you say sorry!" She pouted and Akashi scoffed.
"Well then you don't have to continue," he smirked, stifling a laugh as she pouted even more.
With a sigh, Amber picked up where she left off anyway. "I just really need you to help me take notes tomorrow, please! I have to go to some school in Tokyo tomorrow called Kaijo High."
"Hmm, one of my old teammates go there. Kise-"
"Ryota. Yeah, I'm supposed to be looking for him tomorrow."
Akashi shut up for a second, eyebrows furrowing trying to determine what he should do or say. He was annoyed that he was interrupted but he was also curious as to why she had to go look for Kise. Was Kise going to be one of her new clients? He wanted to ask but he also wanted to seem disinterested since he secretly enjoyed seeing her all frustrated and pouty. Deep down he wished he could also express his feelings as freely as she could.
"You good? You're spacing out again," she grumbled.
"I wasn't spacing out," Akashi rolled his eyes, "Why do you need to look for Ryota?"
"My mum signed me up with Kise's modelling agency to get me on some magazine covers to garner attention for our firm. I think it sounds fun! The agency staff told me to meet him first so he could ease me into what stuff we need to do. You two must be pretty close since you call him by his first name!" Amber smiled.
Akashi shrugged, a small sigh escaping his lips, "I suppose you could say that, though I'm not sure how he feels towards me. We haven't talked in a long time, and I don't recall us having many personal conversations."
"You only talked about basketball? Gosh, Akashi that sounds so boringggg," Amber giggled. "Oh, what would you do without me? Who could ever teach you about the wonders of things to talk about that aren't about basketball?" She teased, dramatically pressing the back of her hand onto her forehead as if she were fainting at the thought.
"Keep that up and I won't help you take any notes tomorrow."
"Kay 'm sorry," she grumbled. "I'll buy you coffee jelly and bring it when I'm back from Tokyo! It's the least I can do since you're already helping me take notes. Do you want something else or is that good?"
"I want the Coffee Jelly Frappuccino from Starbucks instead. I heard it was nice and I've never tried it before."
"No problem! Thank you so much, Akashi! You know, you can be mean sometimes, but you are the best!" Amber grinned, "Well, I have to go for floorball practise, so I'll see you on Thursday!"
"See you," he said with a small smile, contemplating as she walked away if he should have also told her to take care.
A/N: Hello! I might write Akashi a bit OOC since I know he can be very harsh in the KnB series itself, but at the same time, I don't think he's mean/rude to people he has no reason to be rude to. It wasn't shown in the anime how he interacted with other classmates or if he had friends that he made who aren't related to basketball so this is just how I speculate he might act with "ordinary people". To avoid writing him too much out of character I've started rewatching KnB just to make sure that the story flows properly hehe. Thank you for reading! 😊
