"Johnny, the big story is that the Cyclones wiped the floor with the Division 3 favorite Redhawks. Are they on to something, or did they just get lucky?" Chris asked as the camera zoomed out to show Johnny sitting in a chair opposite of Chris.
"It's shocking to say the least. How does a team who went 1-6 last season, scoring only 16 points in their only win last year, suddenly explode for 38 points? The San Diego defense sacked Wescott 5 times, and forced two turnovers, a fumble and an interception. We thought the defense could be special going into this season. But we also knew the Cyclones needed to improve it's offense to be a valid title contender. A 1-0 record is a good start, but I honestly don't see them being in the race for Division 3 champions..."
-Meanwhile, Cyclones Meeting Room-
"The fans are ecstatic after we whooped Washington yesterday." Marco said as he kept looking over the numbers that Marty has asked him to print out for him. "They loved how Avery ran all over that Washington defense. And they loved how Robert and Amos combined for three sacks." Marco said in an enthusiastic tone, which earned a big smile from Marty.
"That's the kind of news we've been waiting for." Marty said in an approving tone. "I've gotta know though: what do the fans want next?" Marty asked his head of the P.R. Department.
"A few things. One: they want us to beat Baltimore this week, since Lance McCain said he wanted to beat us for not drafting him. Two: they want our defense to be at least in the top five by season end. Three: they want our offense to keep scoring points as easily as we did yesterday. Last but not least: they want us to do more community events, charity dinners, team outings and things like that." Marco informed his boss.
"Between you and I." Marty said as he quickly got Marco's attention. "I already was planning to have our players sign autographs at a charity event next week. Do your magic Marco, and we'll have a long line of fans hopefully." Marty said with a confident smile on his face as Marco eagerly walked away to begin printing flyers for the event his boss has just mentioned.
"Morning Clint, Jamal." Marty greeted his Head Scout and GM upon entering his office. "I just spoke to Marco, and the fans are ecstatic about what we did to the Redhawks yesterday–"
"I'll say it's good to finally win another game." Clint mused as Marty took his seat behind his desk and poured himself a glass of water.
"Couldn't agree more, Clint. While the win against Washington was nice, we've got to get ready for the Bearcats this coming Sunday." Marty said as he took another sip from his glass. "Jamal, how did the Bearcats new look offense do yesterday? I know they won, but I'm unsure about the details." Marty asked his head scout.
"Baltimore did win against Cincinnati yesterday, by a score of 28-10." Jamal informed his bosses, which earned surprised looks from both of them. "I know right, Baltimore having a decent offense other than Kwazi running the ball for them all day long. Truth is though, Lance McCain had just as good a debut as Avery did. Racked up over 200 yards through the air and 7 tackles on defense. It's a tossup right now between him and Avery for rookie of the week." Jamal said in a serious tone. "I know our defensive back Nate Lewis played good yesterday, but we might want Paul to give our secondary extra work this week. Our line and linebackers are always consistent, but our secondary is hit or miss..."
-Cyclones Locker Room-
"Good game yesterday, Grant." Robert congratulated his veteran quarterback as he could be found sitting in the chair in front of his locker.
"I should be saying that to you. You played just as good if not better." Grant complimented the second year linebacker. "Defense wins championships–"
"But a little offense always helps." Robert interrupted with a friendly smile, which earned a brief smile from Grant. "I gotta know something Grant: why where you so hard on the team after yesterdays win?" Robert asked in a confused tone.
"I learned many things during my tenure in Carolina. Through all the ups and downs my teammates where always wanting to get to Division 1 and win the title. Don't take this the wrong way, but in Carolina we where most of the time Division title contenders. We where rebuilding in Carolina when they drafted Vincent Grimes and traded my ass here to San Diego. I still feel some resentment being traded. Carolina was my home for years, and now I'm here. The media is against me after many injuries and losing seasons, and I just want to prove them wrong. I guess at the end of the day, I just don't want us to get comfortable in Division 3–"
"You have my word that the defense and I won't let that happen." Robert said in a convicted tone as he pounded a fist against his chest, which earned a smile from Grant.
"Until we're dancing in Division 1, I won't be satisfied. Let's get ready for the Bearcats." Grant said as he stood up from his chair, grabbed his helmet and headed back towards the practice field, Robert right behind him.
