It was but one location, miniscule compared to the vastness of the earth. Darkness was predominant over this small town, but love was on the verge of overcoming it. The moon shone distantly in the sky, shielding itself from the secrets of this forbidden night. And the stars, oblivious as well, allowed the passing on one girl through this night, lighting the path as she walked.

A shiver went down her spine as the cold night's air stung her cheeks. Staring at the sidewalk, she was able to count the cracks, dimly lit by a few streetlights. She smiled to herself as she thought of her destination, but this quickly turned to a frown as she thought about all of who she was deceiving. In this one small town, she was just one small girl. A small, simple girl who didn't have much in the world. She was a speck compared to the rest of the world. She remembered this as she sat down on the rickety- old park bench.

The bench was worn from use, the same one that had been there in the park since she was a child. The one her mother had sat on, watching as she played in a sand box, or swung on the swing set. And here she was today, making a step without the watchful eyes of her mother. Here she was, sitting on a bench as childhood flashed through her eyes, discarded and left behind.

She waited. She listened, listened to the soft, blowing of the wind that caressed her hair. Sinking into the warmth of her sweatshirt, she waited . . . and destiny came. He came from the shadows, walking toward her with a sense of mystery and passion behind his eyes. Instantly, she had to catch her breath, amazed at her own astonishment.

He saw her, relaxing in the blanket of darkness on that bench. And as he walked toward her, he realized that he never wanted to take a step back. He never wanted to walk away for this girl. Sitting next to her, he didn't speak, letting the feelings rush through, energizing his spirit. She was everything he wanted, everything that he felt his destiny owed to him. She was his life, and he mentally promised this . . . forever and always.

Two souls sat on the park bench that night, sharing but one secret without even a sound. It was overwhelming as they finally touched. She let herself fall into his arms, grasping on like she never wanted to let go. He did the same, holding close the one special, delicate thing that mattered most. And inside, it was like an array of wonderful color shooting through them, a feeling of relief and promise.

She left herself behind that night. She left behind the child that lived within her, surrendering herself to destiny with her whole heart. And as she looked toward the night's sky, she realized that she was just one speak in this huge world.

But he was her world.
