We walked into the Great Hall. There are floating lights and four long tables with the house banners over top each. The ceiling is charmed to look like the night sky. Mom said Rowena and Godric out did themselves on the Great Hall. She was not lying. There is a singing hat on a stool at the front of the Great Hall. Professor McGonagall picks up the hat after it is done singing.
"Hannah Abbot." Professor McGonagall calls out to us first years. She is holding a list in one of her hands. The girl goes to sit on the stool and the professor puts the hat on her head.
"Hufflepuff!" the hat yells out.
"The ceiling is charmed" Hermione leans over to whisper to me.
"Yeah it is, Rowena and Godric designed the Great Hall, together." I tell her.
"How do you know that?" She asks. "It doesn't say that in Hogwarts a history."
"It's in the older editions. But my mom told me this." I tell her. "My parents library has all the editions printed inside it. My mom also made a copy that has all the information from each edition. The things that are no longer included in the new editions as well. She also added some of the stuff she and my parents and dad found out during their years here."
"That must be a big book." She says with wide eyes.
"It is, but it has spells to make it seems smaller and lighter. It's in my trunk. My dad said it might be useful for while I am here." I tell her
"Hermione Granger." Professor calls out.
"Good luck." I tell her as she walks to the front. She walks up nervously. She sits down and bites her lip as the hat is placed on her head.
"What is taking so long?" Neville asks me.
"Hat stall." I tell him "It happens when someone is suited for two or more houses."
"Gryffindor!" the hat finally calls out.
"Daphne Greengrass."
Daphne walks up like she already owns the place. But that is like her. She never shows that she is scared.
"Slytherin!" The hat calls out.
"I saw that coming." Neville tells me.
"Neville Longbottom."
He head on up.
"Gryffindor." The hat says after about 15 seconds.
"Draco Malfoy"
The hat doesn't even touch his head and it yells out "Slytherin!"
"Theodore Nott"
"Slytherin"
"Pansy Parkinson"
"Slytherin"
Well I'm up next.
"Harry Potter." Professor says.
The hall breaks out into whispers. I walk up to the stool with my head held high, showing no fear hopefully. Just like Sirius and Annmarie showed me. The hat is placed on my head.
Potter, I remember your parents. The hat says in my head.
Which set?
Both. Three great Gryffindors and one brave Slytherin who could out maneuver the best of them. She was a descendent of Salazar, so she wanted to go there fought me the whole time. Now where should I place you. You would do well in Slytherin.
Please not Slytherin. I love my mom, but I want to be in Gryffindor with my friends.
Let it be "Gryffindor!" The hat yells out at last. I smile and walk over to my new houses table.
"We got potter." Two red head twins call out. I sit beside Neville, across from Hermione.
"You got a hat stall as well. Two in one sorting that's rare." She tells me. "Last one was supposedly Regulas Black and Annmarie Kingsmen. Which houses did it want to place you in?"
"Gryffindor and Slytherin. You?"
"Gryffindor and Ravenclaw." She tells me "I asked for Gryffindor to be with my new friends."
"Blaise Zabini." Professor calls. Blaise goes up to the stool and sits. Just like Draco almost instantly "Slytherin!" is called out. At least this time the hat actually sat on his head, unlike Draco.
Albus Dumbledore got to his feet. He was beaming at his students, his arms opened wide, as if nothing could have pleased him more then to see them all there. "Welcome!" he said "Welcome to a new year at Hogwarts! Before we begin our banquet, I would like to say a few words. And here they are Nitwit! Blubber! Oddment! Tweak! Thank you!" He sat back down, and everyone clapped.
"Is he a bit mad?" I turn and ask the Twin red heads.
"Mad?" One says.
"He's a genius." The other says.
"How was that genius?" I ask.
"I have no idea." One of them says. "I'm George Weasley and this is Fred."
The food appeared on the dishes. I start to put food on my plate. Ghosts start to float through the table.
"Hello, Nick." I tell him.
"Hello young one." He says back.
"How did you know not to call him nearly headless Nick?" Fred says once Nick departed.
"My dad told me that he didn't like it. My parents gave me tons of knowledge on how things go and how to get my way." I tell him.
"Really?" George says leaning closer.
"Yes." I say. I look down the table and see two more boys with red hair. "Are you related?"
"Yeah, that's Percy. He's the Gryffindor male Perfect. The other one is Ron he's a firstie like you." Fred says.
Dumbledore got to his feet again. The hall falls silent almost immediately.
"Ahem, just a few more words now we are all fed and watered. I have a few start of the term notices to give you. First years should not that the forest in the grounds is forbidden to all pupils. And a few older students would do well to remember that a well. I have also been asked by Mr. Filch, the caretaker, to remind you all that no magic should be used between classes in the corridors. Quidditch trails will be held in the second week of the term. Anyone interested in playing for their house teams should contact Madam Hooch. And finally, I must tell you that this year, the third-floor corridor on the right-hand side is out of bounds to everyone who does not wish to die a very painful death." Dumbledore announces.
"Has the third-floor corridor ever been off limits?" I ask
"No, it never has since we've been here." George says.
"I will have to ask mom and dad." I tell Neville.
