Summary: Yue muses over his one true love. YueSakura? (Evil laughter)…read and find out!
Moonlight musing
He watched her in silence, and she never noticed him. He had always been watching her, and he always would. It was how he had been created. Clow had given him to her, and he had found her worthy and remained by her side ever since. Other loyalties, other ties would come and go, but she would be the passion of his eternal life, whatever had been intended by his creator. He couldn't imagine another existence, one that didn't include her beatific influence.
Her gentle radiance, the way she endeared herself to everyone and everything, the tenacity with which she overcame all the odds to endure – he had noticed this in her in the beginning, and given it scant thought. He was even unaware of his own actions towards her, how they were ever so subtly different from his reactions to others. He was the Moon Guardian after all, the Judgment Maker, he who could see into the hearts of everyone and everything around him. And as time went by, and he watched her, he realised all those hidden attributes that most people noticed only superficially; they saw only her external beauty, but he saw her heart as well. After all, she was so passive, so humble and sweet, hiding in the shadows of her achievements, content merely to make those she cared about happy, to distribute her light and healing touch. Of course she had flaws – who didn't? – but he had once heard that people loved, not despite faults, but because of them, and he believed it. Her flaws merely made her approachable, made her worthy of his love instead of his worship.
He knew he could never tell her. There were simply too many obstacles in their way, too many complexities. His duties interfered with his objectivity. Their ages were too far apart. She could never be with him as he desired. She barely knew he existed. Oh, there were so many reasons.
He knew she would never love him. After all, she was so, so distant, so otherworldly – divine, almost. He was devoted to her as much as he loved her, but what little response he received. If she saw him at all, it was simply as one she sustained with her power. How could it be otherwise? His magic drew him to her, as irresistibly as the moon drew the waves. Her very existence defined him.
Trapped in his hopeless love, he stretched out his arms, his wings, his heart to the moon.
The icy dark rock that she was, she never responded.
The End
