Fitz is pacing the hospital. The imprint of his shoes can be seen on the floors. He keeps running his hands through his hair. How could this happen? He keeps thinking. Corinne has been trying to get him to be calm, but he is not hearing it. Maya is worried too but she wants the doctor to give them more information. Everyone is waiting in the waiting room for the doctor. Corinne wants to be wrong that it was Mellie she saw leaving that party, but she is sure it is her, but she wouldn't dare tell Fitz. Especially not right now.
The doctor comes through the doors, Fitz runs quickly to her. "How is she? Is she okay? Can I go see her? Is she alive?" He is almost rambling.
Corinne grabs his hand. His dad pats his shoulder, "Son let her speak."
"Tell us how my daughter is," Eli says, speaking for he and Maya.
"Your daughter is fine," The doctor says. He turns to Fitz, "You can go in and see her. She wants to see you."
"Can you tell us what happen?" Maya asks.
"She fainted. She did hit her head. She has a concussion and she had to have stitches. We are going to keep her a couple of days, just for observation. I will say, it is a good thing that she fell in the direction she did. It could have been much worse," He further explains.
Corinne does not want to ask the question, but she feels its important. "Was she struck in the head? Attacked…" she says cautiously. Big Gerry looks over at her, wondering why she would ask that question as does everyone else.
Maya repeats, "Attacked!"
The doctor thinks it is an odd question, but he answers, "No ma'am it does not appear that she was attacked. She hit her head falling. Like I said, it could have been much worse."
"When can I see my baby?" Maya asks.
The doctor sees all the caring faces, "She doesn't need to be overwhelmed. So, one at a time will do for now."
A nurse appears into view, "Doctor, we need you for a moment."
"If you all would excuse me," the doctor says excusing herself.
Gerry looks at Corinne, "Why did you ask that? What do you know?"
Corinne looks at him annoyed, "Of course I don't know anything about it. I just…"
The little voice of Karen says, "Grandpa is Olivia, okay?'
He reaches down and picks her up, "Olivia is going to be fine. Don't be scared."
Abby, Rochelle, and Sonja are huddled in the corner talking, "I wonder what happened in that bathroom," Abby says to Sonja and Rochelle.
"When I went in there she was just lying there. I did not see any blood. But I freaked the fuck out that she was lying there like that," Rochelle says.
"I just hope she's okay," Sonja says.
Harrison is standing with Maya and Eli. Quinn has taken a seat. "Mom, you know she's fine," Harrison says.
"She is my strong girl. I know she is. But seeing her on that gurney, the way she was, I didn't like it," Maya answers.
"And you know I didn't like it," Eli says.
"She just slipped or lost her footing. The doctor said it could have been worse," Quinn tries to calm everyone's nerves.
Maya moves away, "Where you are going?" Eli asks.
"Just going to talk to Corrine for a minute," she answers as she moves over to Corrine and Gerry.
"Why don't you get you and your sister something from the vending machine?" She suggests to Gerry as she sees Maya coming over. Big Gerry has taken Karen for a little walk.
Maya says nothing, just taking the now empty seat by Corrine. She takes a breath. "Everything okay."
"Everything is okay now, now that we know Olivia is okay," Corinne answers. "Go ahead and ask," Corrine says.
"Why did you ask if looked like my girl had been attacked?" Maya asks.
Corrine knows she should not lie. "No particular reason."
Maya turns to her, so she can look her in the eye. "Did you hurt her?"
Corinne whips her head around, "Of course I didn't hurt her. She's like a daughter to me," she answers. She's offended Maya could even ask her something like that, but she understands why.
"I know you wouldn't hurt her, but you know something or at least you think you do…or you are covering for someone that hurt Liv."
Corinne takes a sigh, "I thought I saw Mellie running through the kitchen not long before Olivia's friend found her. But…I cannot be sure if it was Mellie and just in case…"
"You wanted to make sure that little bitch did not attack my daughter. I am sorry, I don't mean to be so brazen, but I don't take well to someone going after my baby."
Corinne laughs. They have so much in common, most off all they have a fierce love for their kids. If someone hurts them, they better be damned. "No need to apologize. I try not to call her a bitch in front of her children. I can't be sure it was her."
"But she had no reason being there but to stir up trouble," Maya says. "If she was there."
"I agree," Corinne answers.
Maya lets out a long breath that she realizes she has been holding a while. "Well maybe Liv can tell us a little more once we see her."
Fitz is sitting by Liv's bedside. He is just holding her hand gently. She seems to have drifted off into a little sleep. Of course, that worries her. The nurse is checking her vitals. Fitz looks at her, "Did you sedate her?"
The nurse looks at him, a little hesitant with her answer. "No, sir we couldn't sedate her, and she didn't need it. I think she's just napping."
Fitz looks a little confused by her answer, but he doesn't dwell on it. Liv softly squeezes his hand. Fitz looks down, "I needed a little siesta."
Fitz quickly greets her with a kiss. "Am I happy to see those beautiful eyes?" He says as he kisses her again and she grabs a hold to his face.
"I'm okay," Liv smiles.
"I had to make sure of it. You scared the hell out of me. Out of all of us. What happened?"
Liv relishes in the feel of his body so close to his. She does not want to talk about what happened in that bathroom. "It's not important," she waves off.
Fitz lifts his head, looking at her almost bewildered. "Rochelle found you on the bathroom floor passed out. You needed to have stitches. Why are you acting like that's nothing?"
Liv caresses his face, "I am not saying it was nothing. I am just saying it was a freak accident."
"Do you remember what happened?" Fitz asks. "Did you faint? Did you slip and fall?" Fitz searches her eyes as he realizes she is trying not to look him in the eyes. "Liv, why are you avoiding the question?"
"Because it is not important right now. We have better things to talk about," Liv starts but before she can finish what she wants to say. There is a knock on the door. She thinks to herself, saved by the knock.
Before they could come in, Maya enters, "I know they said two people at a time. I am your mother, and they didn't have a choice but to let me in," she rambles as she reaches down and gives Liv a kiss.
"I'm okay Mom," Liv says.
"I know you are now. I saw it with my own eyes," Maya answers. Fitz just laughs. "How are you feeling baby?"
"I feel fine. It was just a fall," Liv stresses.
"You fainted," the doctor said. "Did you faint? Or did something else happen," Maya eyes her intently. The glare doesn't get past Fitz, but he stays silent.
Fitz gets up, Liv quickly catches his hand. "Where are you going?"
"I am going to go out so your dad can come in. I will let everyone else know how you are doing," Fitz says as he reaches down and gives her a kiss.
"Don't stay gone too long handsome," she whispers.
"We aren't done with our conversation Mrs. Grant," Fitz warns her as he kisses her again and goes toward the door. He looks back at her and winks. Maya smiles.
"Why didn't you marry him sooner?" Maya says.
Liv laughs, "Because I didn't know him then, remember."
Maya gets up, "Unfortunately," she answers as she starts moving pointedly to fixing the bed.
Maya turns on the mother charm. She starts fixing Olivia's bed sheets. "Mom," Liv says.
"Just making sure you are tucked in good," Maya says as she keeps doting over her.
"Mom, I don't need my sheets fixed. I am not bed ridden. I can do it myself."
"I am your mother and I want to do it."
Liv finally grabs Maya's hands to stop her wheels from moving, "Mom, are you okay?"
"I saw my baby on a gurney, bleeding from her head. I didn't know what to think. You don't want to see your child like that. That scared me to death."
"I am okay. It was just a fluke, and I am okay."
Maya drops her eyes. She is searching for the best way to say what she needs to say. "I am going to ask you something and do not lie to your mother. Do you hear me?"
Liv looks confused, "What?"
"Was Mellie in that bathroom with you?"
Liv snaps her head up. She was not expecting that question at all. She tilts her head to the side, "Why would you ask that?"
"So, she was," Maya deduces. "What was that skank doing there?"
"How did you know she was there?"
Maya gets up, pacing, because now she wants to find Mellie and wring her neck, "I am going to find her and smash her little perfect teeth in for doing this to you. Although if Corinne gets to her first it won't matter."
"How does Corinne know she was there?" Liv asks surprised.
"She thought she saw Mellie sneaking out through the kitchen, but she wasn't sure. You need to tell Fitz. Is that what he was talking about?"
Liv takes a breath, "He wanted to know what happened. He had no idea Mellie was there. I didn't want him to get upset."
"He should be upset. That wretch had no business putting her hands on you. He should know about it," Maya says.
"Mellie didn't touch me, and I am not just saying that. She didn't touch me. We did argue but that was it. She left, incredibly angry about the exchange we had and the next thing I knew, I was on the ground."
"Olivia," Maya says.
"That is the truth mom," Liv says as there is another knock. Eli comes in.
"There's my girl," he says.
"Hi Dad!" Liv smiles as he gives her a kiss.
"How are you feeling? Fitz says you are okay, and I must believe that. He would not have left this room otherwise," He laughs.
"No, he wouldn't have," Liv smiles.
"What happened?"
Before Maya can say anything, Liv intercepts, "I fell. It was just a freak accident, and I am glad it was not more serious."
"So are we. You had us scared," he squeezes her hand. "And Harrison told me to tell you, you can stop faking."
"Pencil head," Liv laughs. She rubs her dad's hand as Maya eyes her, "I am okay daddy. I promise." She grabs Maya's hand, "I am glad both of you are here. I can apologize to the both of you together."
"Apologize for what?" Maya asks.
"That Fitz and I eloped. I know you wanted to have a beautiful wedding and…."
"We want you to be happy Princess. And you and Fitz did what was right for you, and we cannot be upset with that," Eli says.
"Speak for yourself, I am mad as hell. I wanted to do all those motherly things before she walked down the aisle," Maya starts. Liv is about to say something when Mellie cuts her off, "Don't say I did that when you married Jake. I knew that was a disaster but that was what you wanted, and I stay quiet. But Fitz, he is your soulmate. This is the real thing."
"I really like him," Eli shakes his head.
"And he really likes you both," Liv smiles.
Maya squeezes Liv's hand, "Just don't do anything else without telling us."
"I promise, we won't," Liv shakes her head.
"I am glad you two went on and did it. Love should not be prolonged," Maya continues.
"That went better than I thought it would," Liv laughs.
"Because now you can start giving me grandbabies," Maya answers. Liv lets out a faint laugh.
"Only if you want to sweetheart," Eli says as they all share a lighthearted laugh.
Fitz is sitting in the hall with his mom. Everyone is naturally relieved that Liv is okay. He called Mellie, against his better judgement to get the kids. He was surprised when she did not protest. She was more than happy to do it, which is never Mellie when it comes to anything related to him and Liv. Big Gerry has returned with Karen. He is keeping her occupied across the room. Corinne can tell that something is on Fitz's mind.
Corinne grabs his hand, "What's wrong son? I thought you said Liv is going to be okay."
"She is okay mom. She is. I just," he shakes his head. He doesn't want to sound like he's speaking ill of his new wife.
"It's just what?" Corinne asks.
"It's just I know she's keeping something from me. I know her. She's hiding something from me," Fitz explains.
Corinne drops her head. She doesn't want to get Liv in trouble, and she doesn't really know what happened. She just stays quiet which quickly becomes obvious to Fitz.
"Mom, what do you know?"
"What do you mean?"
Fitz turns to her. To face her, "Maya asked Liv a weird question in there, like she knew something. What do you know? Do you know what happened to Liv?"
Corinne's face is flushed. She says, "Of course I don't."
"Mom," Fitz says.
"I saw Mellie leaving not too long before Olivia's friend found her in there," Corinne starts.
"Mellie did this to her," Fitz says loudly. Everyone hears him.
"I didn't say that" Corinne says quickly.
"But Mellie was there, and she should not have been. She hurt my wife," Fitz says angrily.
Big Gerry wants to get up and go over. He remembers he has Karen. Quinn appears, "I've got her," she says. "Hey Karen, why don't you come sit with me and Olivia's brother for a while."
Karen looks up at Harrison, "You are Olivia's brother."
"Yes, I am! Come hang out with us. I have a little game here we can play," Harrison says as he nods Big Gerry and takes Karen with him and Quinn. Gerry looks on.
Big Gerry walks over, "What's wrong?" He asks looking at Fitz and then Corinne. "This wouldn't have anything to do with why you wondered if Liv was attacked."
"Mellie, that woman," Fitz tries hard to refrain himself. "She attacked mt wife. When I get my hands on her."
"Son, you need to calm down," Gerry advises.
"Dad would you be calm if," Fitz says clinching his teeth and his hands together. Before he can finish, Mellie appears in the doorway. Surprising everyone, Fitz rushes toward her.
At first Mellie doesn't think he's coming for her until he yells, "What did you do to my wife?"
Mellie is startled by Fitz's charge toward her and his yelling. She steps back, "What are you talking about?"
"Daddy," Karen says as she starts to cry.
"Dad, what's going on?" Gerry asks.
"Son," Big Gerry says charging to him, grabbing his arm.
"Fitz," Corinne yells. At this point Abby, Sonja, and Rochelle have all gotten up. The nurses look in the direction of Fitz and Mellie.
"What in the hell are you talking about?" Mellie repeats.
Fitz is holding his fists tight, "Son, you don't want to do this here," Gerry says calmly.
"Olivia is in this hospital because of you. What happened in that bathroom?" Fitz asks.
Mellie's eyes grow wide, "How…?"
"My mother saw you sneak out just before we found Liv. What did you do to her? And you better tell me the truth, or I will…" Fitz says angrily.
A cop appears in the door, "Folks, what is the problem here?"
"My ex-husband wants to hit me. That's the problem, officer," Mellie says quickly.
"Sir," the officer says as he looks in Fitz's direction. "Did he hit you ma'am?"
Mellie looks around. She knows she can't push the envelope any further. She has too many witnesses to the contrary, "No he did not."
"Sir, you need to go and cool off. Why don't you go take a walk?" The officer suggests.
"That's a good idea," Big Gerry answers. "Let's go take a walk."
Corinne steps in front of Fitz, "Liv needs you hear at the hospital, not in jail because of that leech." Fitz shakes his head, knowing his mother is right. He agrees and starts out of the door with Gerry and the officer on his heels.
Before he goes, he turns around, "Don't be here when I get back."
The sight of Fitz walking away angry with a cop watching him, gives her some sort of sick comfort. She smirks when Corinne turns her around, totally surprising Mellie. "I don't want my son in jail for the likes of you. You aren't worth it, but I'd go to jail in a heartbeat for him. You leave my son and his family alone."
"Excuse me," Mellie says.
"You leave him and his family, which is not you anymore, alone. We can't press charges because we don't know what happened. But we would if we had to," Corinne warns her.
"I didn't hurt your precious Olivia. Yes, I was there and yes, we had words but when I left, she was still in one piece and still standing. I didn't lay a hand on her," Mellie says sarcastically.
"Why were you there?" Corinne asks.
Mellie doesn't have a snappy comeback. She glances to her left to see the look on Gerry's face. She is embarrassed now by her own admission, "I just wanted to see."
"What did you want to see? How life would have looked for you had you not pissed over it, over and over?" Corinne asks.
Karen throws her hand over her mouth, "Grandma said a bad word." She says as she looks up at Quinn. Quinn and Harrison laugh.
"If you are the reason Olivia was on that ground, you'll have to worry about how fucked up your life will be starting tonight," Rochelle chimes in. Harrison just gives Mellie a death stare that made the hairs on the back of her neck stand up.
Harrison speaks up, "For your sake, you better not have anything to do with my sister being in this hospital."
Mellie is feeling cornered, "I told you all. I did not do anything to her. I have no reason to lie. We exchanged words and I left. I think I had embarrassed myself enough."
"Take the kids and go," Corinne says.
"For what its worth, I am glad she's okay," Mellie says unfeelingly. She turns to Karen, "Let's go sweetheart." She looks at Gerry, knowing their communication is hanging on by a thread, "Do you want to come home with me?"
Gerry looks at Corinne, as if asking her what she should do, "Grandma?"
"You go with your mom. I am sure your dad would like for you not to be hanging out here all night. I'll come get you tomorrow," Corinne says. Gerry smiles and turns to Mellie agreeing to go as Mellie goes out trying to have semblance of dignity.
Just then Maya and Eli come down the hall. They can see the tension in everyone's faces. "What was going on out here? We could hear Fitz down the hall. Was that Mellie I just saw?" Maya asks.
"Yes, it was," Harrison answers.
"Good! I want to give her a piece of my mind," Maya says charging toward the doors. Elie grabs her arm.
"Maya let her go," Eli says.
Harrison takes a hold to her other hand, "Mom, how's Trixie?"
"She's good. I think she's really tired. So, we wanted to let her get a little sleep. Where's Fitz? She's asking for him."
"He's taking a walk with his dad," Corinne says. "Maya, can I talk to you for a second?" She and Maya move away from everyone else.
"What did she say?" Maya cuts to the chase.
"She swears when she left out of that bathroom that Liv was still standing. As much as I hate to believe a word that comes out of her mouth, I think she's telling the truth."
Maya sighs, "She's stupid but she's not stupid enough to think we wouldn't find out the truth. So, she is telling the truth."
"That snake slithers away again."
"I think I am angry that Liv didn't want to tell Fitz she was there," Maya reveals.
"Well, he knows, so she can't hide it from him," Corinne shakes her head, "She doesn't want the drama that comes with Mellie. I can't say I don't understand where she's coming from."
"Sometimes, people need an ass whipping though," Maya chuckles as they both laugh.
Fitz and Big Gerry are sitting outside on one of the benches watching the passer-byers. Fitz keeps taking deep breaths. "I wasn't going to hit her Pop."
"I didn't think you were. I raised you better than that, but I can surely understand why you would want to hit her. The woman is just draining the life out of everything around her," Big Gerry says.
"I just want her to let me live my life. After everything she did…Gerry not being mine. She's hurt me enough and she doesn't seem to understand that. What else does she want from me?"
Big Gerry laughs, "A push over Mellie has never been. Never underestimate the power and strength of a woman but a woman with brains and determination is even more dangerous. She knows she messed up royally she knows it."
"That really hurt me dad. He has my name, but he doesn't have my blood," Fitz says.
"Fitzgerald, look at me," Gerry says as Fitz looks up at him. In this moment, he can see how small Fitz feels.
"Don't let Mellie and what she's done, get in the way of the love and the bond that you and Gerry share. He's your son no matter what the DNA says. You know that already. There are some blood fathers and sons that are not that close. It's a gift, don't throw that away because of Mellie."
"I won't. You know I love Gerry, no matter what. It's just that when I see her, I want to make her feel what I feel. I want her to hurt like I hurt. And the thought of her doing something to Livvie, it's like she sets out to hurt me and take things from me," Fitz expresses.
"She can't take anything from you unless you let her. You control your happiness. Don't let her think she does."
Just as Fitz is about to speak, his phone buzzes. He looks down to see a text from his mother. He smiles. "My beautiful new bride is requesting my presence," he says.
"Well, let's not keep the Mrs. waiting," Gerry says as they get up and go back into the hospital.
Gerry, Karen, and Mellie are in the car. The kids are quiet. They've both never seen Fitz that angry, and it scared them both. Mellie is bothered by the quiet in the car. She clears her throat, "Is no one talking? I know it's late but."
"Did you hurt Olivia Mom?" Gerry just outright asks."
Mellie is annoyed that at first speak, Gerry is asking about her. "Everything is not about Olivia, Gerry."
Gerry rolls his eyes, which Mellie sees through the rear-view mirror, "I think it's uncool," Gerry finishes.
"I don't think it is cool that you care more about an intruder than you do your own other," Mellie spits back.
"I just asked a question," Gerry says.
"Mom, what's an intruder?" Karen asks.
Mellie looks at Gerry again before addressing Karen, "An intruder is someone who gets in the way of something special."
"Olivia is really nice mom and she's always nice to us," Karen says.
Gerry decides to hit the hot button, "So, would my other dad, Richard, be an intruder?"
Mellie is visibly angry, and Gerry can tell. Mellie pulls over to the side angrily. "Mellie is no saint, Gerry. You ask your father what she did. Better yet, ask Olivia what she did and why she's an intruder."
"She's never lied to us or Dad," Gerry fights back.
Mellie just drives off in anger.
Fitz is walking back in when he's stopped by Abby and Sonja.
"Fitz we are going to go back to the penthouse and get Liv some fresh clothes. I am sure she's going to have to stay overnight," Abby says.
"That's a perfect idea Abby. Thanks! I hadn't even thought of that," Fitz says.
"That's what our purpose is, to help you think of the things you need," Sonja says.
"We will bring you fresh clothes. We don't look at your tighty whites, I promise," Abby jokes.
Fitz blushes, "Thank you! My dignity stays intact."
"The way I hear, there's a lot of good dignity you are working with," Rochelle says, walking up. Fitz is too bashful to answer. "You have to remember; I don't have a filter."
Eli walks over, "She was asleep when we left but Harrison is in there. Anything goes," he says.
"Thanks Eli," Fitz says as he walks down the corridor. Fitz slowly walks in; he can hear the laughter from Liv. It's like music to his ears right now.
"Harrison don't make her laugh. She has a headache remember," Quinn says.
"He's such moron," Liv says through her laughter.
Fitz pipes in, coming into view, "The doctor did not say laughter is the best restaurant right now."
"Laughter is always good, handsome, and seeing you," Liv says.
"Damn man, you've turned her into a lovesick teenager," Harrison says rolling his eyes.
Liv rolls her eyes back, "Quinn looks just that dreamy about you."
"I'm pregnant, that's my excuse," Quinn laughs.
"I'm proud to say, I did that," Harrison winks.
"Get out of my room," Liv says.
"Fine, you two want to hanky-panky in the hospital. I get it. Its freaky but I get it," Harrison motions a dance.
"Shut up," Liv laughs as once again Fitz is beet red.
"I'll take him out. I am glad you are okay Liv," Quinn says as she lifts her hand for Harrison to help her up.
"Just don't get pregnant in here. Not the story you want to tell Baby Grant," Harrison jokes. Liv gives him a side glance.
"And just where did you two get pregnant. I thought I heard it was in a closet at Mom and Dad's and they would kick your ass if they ever found out," Liv reveals.
"Your mom and dad's closet," Fitz says.
Harrison looks at Quinn, "You told her."
"Now I have something to hold over your head," Liv winks.
Harrison looks at Fitz, "We have to keep them apart."
Liv grabs Fitz's hand, "Don't worry, your secret is safe with me."
Harrison snaps his head around, "What secret?"
"Get out," Liv says as Quinn grabs Harrison's hand.
"We will see you later," Quinn says.
"Thanks Quinn," Liv says as her and Harrison leave the room.
Liv repositions herself in the bed. She can see that Fitz is upset. His signature looking out of the window is the cue that something is going on in his head. "It would be much nicer having you over here," Liv pipes up.
"Were you going to tell me that Mellie was in that bathroom?" Fitz asks as he turns to look at her.
"The mothers told you," Liv says.
"The mothers shouldn't have told you," Liv says defensively.
"Were you going to tell me?" Fitz repeats.
"Of course, I was….," Liv says slowly, "It wasn't important at the moment," Liv says again that just makes him mad.
"My ex-wife attacking my wife is not important to you," Fitz says, needing clarity on her position.
"You know that's not what I meant," Liv says, realizing this conversation is not going the way she hoped it would. "Fitz, look at me please." Fitz continues to stare out of the window. "Fitz, please!" He turns around to face her. "Mellie didn't hurt me in that bathroom. I would have told you if she did. Did we have words, unfortunately we did. But she didn't attack me. She didn't lay a hand on me. "
Fitz walks over to her bed, sitting down gently on the side, taking her hand. "You are my wife now. What happens to you, happens to me okay."
Liv smiles, "Okay, I get that, but nothing happened. Nothing like that."
"I wanted to strangle her outside. I honestly don't know if I wouldn't' have done it," Fitz reveals.
Liv sits up more, "Mellie was here."
"I called her to get the kids and right before she got here, my mom told me she saw Mellie leaving the party, but she was coming from the direction of the bathroom. She thought she did something to you," Fitz explains.
"It was the usual conversation. She was blaming me for everything wrong in her life. I took everything away from her. I'm the whore that ruined everything for her," Liv explains.
Fitz gets up, shaking his head, "The gall of that woman. I honestly think she has no shame. She really doesn't. Instead owning up to her wrong, she blames everything and everyone else around her."
"Fitz, what did you mean you don't know if you wouldn't have strangled her," Liv asks.
Fitz turns back to her, "I wanted to shake the audacity out of here. She holds her head high and mighty as if she is the victim. She's far from it."
"It was upsetting Fitz, of course it was, but she didn't get to me. Truth be told, I think I got to her. That's why she darted out of their like she did. She probably wishes she could have hit me. She would have hit me if she thought she could get away with it, I suppose."
"And I am telling you right now, woman be damned, if she had done that, I would have hit her. I would have killed her," Fitz warns.
"You don't mean that," Liv tries to make light.
"I mean every word of it. I will not let her ruin our family the way she did mine and hers. I don't miss her. I don't ache for what we had but I am sorry my children were put in the middle of all of that, especially Gerry. Most of all, he didn't deserve the end of the stick that he got because of his dear old mother," Fitz says.
"Fitz, I am going to suggest something, and I don't want you to get upset," She starts very carefully, not knowing how it would be received.
"I'm listening," Fitz says as he sits next to her again. He moves the strand of hair that has fallen in her face.
"I think it might be good for you and Gerry, maybe even Karen, see a therapist," Liv says. She can tell Fitz is surprised by her suggestion. "I would say Mellie should be involved but."
"The reason we are going to therapy, certainly wouldn't like the idea of therapy," Fitz says.
"Therapy would be good for you and Gerry to talk about what you are feeling or not feeling. I know I'm your wife now, but I am also a therapist. I recognize when people are hiding pain and hiding rage," Liv starts.
"I'm not a danger to anyone," Fitz says.
"I know you aren't but what Mellie did to you and Gerry it stays with you and underneath all that, not that it matters, Gerry is not your biological son. She carried that lie and made you believe in it. I know it hurts you Fitz. Just like I know it hurts Gerry. He doesn't know what to do most of the time. He has two dads. One of which he's devoted to," she smiles. She can see she's breaking through to him. "I know it eats away at you that he's not your son. Maybe talking to someone on the outside of the situation would be of help to you and to him."
"I don't want to make him feel like there is something wrong with him," Fitz admits.
"I'll explain to him, it will be like talking to an old friend. Maybe if you had sessions together and separate ones it will help. If he sees his strong dad is doing it, he won't feel so awkward about it," Liv explains.
Fitz rubs his face, "Maybe you are right," he smiles. "You are always right," he laughs.
"I wouldn't suggest it if I didn't think it would help," Liv smiles.
"Can you help us find a good person?" Fitz asks.
"Of course, I will. Someone I know you would both be comfortable with. I will do my homework once I get out of this joint," Liv says assuredly
"Speaking of this joint," Fitz says as he lifts her hand to kiss the top. "We need to figure out why you blacked out. This could be something serious and we need to know what it is."
"What if I told you I think I know what it is?" Liv says. She's happy to share the news with him. She's just not sure she's ready for this. Although she knows Fitz is. He's been ready since the beginning.
"Are you hiding something from me? Is there something the doctor is hiding from me?" Fitz queries.
Before Liv can answer, the nurse comes in. "I'm sorry to interrupt but I we have a room ready for you. We are going to transfer you to a room."
"Just a one night stay right," Liv says.
"You will stay as long as the doctor thinks you need to Mrs. Grant," Fitz informs her.
"It was just a bump on the head Fitz. I am okay. I promise you that," Liv says.
"And you have a concussion," Fitz reminds her.
"Which is why we are going to keep you a few days. Plus, we need to get you started on your pre-natal vitamins," The nurse says as she writes down her vitals.
Liv immediately shoots her eyes over to Fitz, wondering if he heard what the nurse said. He looks up, "Pre-natal vitamins. Is she saying what I think she is saying?"
The nurse realizes she let the cat out of the bag before Liv had a chance to. She catches her chest. "I'm sorry Mrs. Grant. I didn't know you hadn't had a chance to tell him yet."
Fitz at this point, is grinning from ear to ear, "We're pregnant!"
Liv looks at him smiling as she turns to the nurse, "It's okay."
The nurse is mortified by her slip of the tongue. She sorrily looks at Liv and Fitz, "I am truly sorry."
"Believe me, it's okay. I don't think it matters who the news comes from," Liv answers.
Fitz reaches down, kissing her repeatedly, "No it doesn't," he says between kisses.
"I'll go get everything ready and give you two some time alone," The nurse says as she leaves, still very embarrassed.
"I can't believe this," Fitz says as he quickly puts his hands on her stomach.
"I can't believe it either," Liv says a little solemnly.
"Are you okay?" Fitz asks. He can tell she's barreling over with the excitement new impending mothers have.
"I'm fine," Liv says.
He moves further up the bed, positioning himself so she can lay in his arms. "Baby, I know we just got married. And you wanted to wait a little while on starting a family, but this is wonderful. I couldn't be happier."
Liv holds him tightly, "That's good."
"Starting a family with you is a dream come true," Fitz says.
Liv takes a breath, "I hope so."
Fitz starts rambling about all the things that she didn't want to think about in this moment. That they should buy a house. He starts talking about all the changes he thinks they will need to make. Changes that Liv is sure she wasn't ready to jump into.
A new marriage and a baby, the world in this very moment is moving fast. She hopes she can handle it. She hopes she has the will.
