It had been a normal day in the life of Mirai Kanōsei. He was walking around, wearing his usual get up of a long trench coat, white gloves, a medical mask, a hat to match the tan brown of his trench coat. As well as long black pants, a long sleeve white shirt, and boots. Now this wouldn't be that bad, if it wasn't a sunny day in Japan, right at noon. He grew weary, sweat dripping down his skin. Although he had to wear this outfit, all due to his quirk. He cursed his born power. Not only was his skin as black as the night sky, with dotted stars to match, he couldn't turn his power off. It allowed his to see the three most probable futures of someone without his influence, and one with his influence. Now that may seem amazing, but it also overloaded his brain. He would swiftly pass out, and wake up four hours later, after walking through those timelines. It took years of quirk counseling, but eventually, he was able to walk between the timelines he reviewed over and over.
Izuku Midoriya was a normal teen. Well except one thing. He didn't have a quirk. A special power that was unique to each and every person in the world. Except about twenty present of the world's population. Although Izuku had looked into it, he fit closer into a four percent that was born quirkless in his generation. The number shrank down each year, at this point only a small 2.1% were born quirkless. He had a feeling that in a few years it would be less than 0.1%. He was walking home, beaten and bruised up from another day of bullying.
Both of these two completely unrelated people just happened to turn the same corner, at the same time, neither looking where they were going, leading to both being knock on their ass. Izuku always wanted to be a hero, so he shot up to right what he assumed was his wrong.
"A-A-Are you okay sir? Did you hit your head?" Izuku walked up and tried to help him before he held up his hand to stop him.
"DON'T! Touch me. I can't turn off my quirk. It's not safe for me to touch anyone. More for my own sake." His voice was deep, yet his frame was small and frail. It was almost as if his body and voice were opposites.
"Ah! Sorry." Izuku looked at the man for a little bit, who was rubbing his head and groaning. "If you don't mind… Could I ask what your quirk is? IF you don't mind that is."
"Why do you want to know?" Mirai Kanōsei was looking at the boy, with curiosity in his eyes, or rather the smooth, indented area where they should be.
"It's a hobby of mine. I like to document and study quirks." The man laughed for a little bit, before picking himself up.
"I can see probabilities of those I touch. Can't turn it off though." Instantly Izuku had taken out his notebook and started a muttering spree.
If he can see probabilities does that mean multiple? Does that include the ones where he interacts, or is it only ones that he doesn't? Does he see through the eyes of the person, or from a third person view? Perhaps it isn't like that at all, and he can only see one, and then others that he has changed. How does his mind keep up with all the new knowledge?
"Very poorly. I pass out for hours. I can freely roam between the three I see, and well as a fourth, where I directly interacted with the person, and changed something. You look very familiar. I feel like I've seen you before, but also I feel as if I haven't."
"Sorry, I shouldn't keep you that long mister…
"Kanōsei. Please I wasn't going anywhere important. It should be fine. Although if you don't mind, I would like to be on my way."
"Thank you ōsei, I'm Izuku Midoriya by the way." As he started to walk away, Izuku's hand shot out and gripped the man's sleeve.
"Can, Can I please ask you to take a look at my future? I need to know whether or not I could be a hero." Izuku's head hung low, till he finished the sentence, tears flowing out his eyes. The older man looked the kid in the eyes. He tried to just say no, but in his heart he was scared. He had seen that look in people's eyes before. In almost every case, it was desperation. He caved in.
"Fine kid, but I'm going to need somewhere to lay down after I pass out." Izuku started to think for a bit.
"I've got a plan! We are going to move near my home, you are going to use your quirk on me, and then I'll bring you in, and explain it to my mom!" The man looked at Izuku.
"Are you sure that would work?" The young boy nodded and started to lead the man, that he had JUST met, towards his home.
"Okay, we aren't far, we should do it now!" Izuku held out his hand, as the man rolled up his sleeve slightly, bringing his bare starry arm over the boy's hand.
"Don't let anyone else touch me, or else those futures will fuse, and I won't be able to help you, understand?" Izuku nodded quickly as the man put his arm against Izuku's skin, and fell into the boy's arms. Izuku worked his way up carrying Kanōsei into his home. As soon as he walked in, bruised and carrying a man, his mother gasped loudly.
"Don't panic! And don't touch him…"
"The first future huh? This should be good. A day at school huh?" Kanōsei watched as the boy went throughout the day. The major downside to his quirk, yes there's more, is he can't see who each student is. He can only see colors based on how the person interacted, thought of them, and a basic shape of their body. He could still see Izuku writing rather quickly in a notebook in front of him. That was weird. The notebook had colors. Usually the world was all in a non-glowing grey. He got closer, and saw he could read the book. Another thing that had never happened before. It was full of notes on heroes, each page carefully written, and the one next to it, having an expert drawing of the hero matching. In depth details of strengths and weaknesses. Hell, even some of what he assumed were the people in Izuku's life were in there. He watched as the boy kept flipping through the pages. He noticed that the book itself glowed brightly with Red, Yellow, and Black. Bright glow meant it was positive, and those colors each meant Passion, Intellect, and Protection in this case. Kanōsei had been doing this long enough to start calling the colors by their emotion. Each one a slightly different shade. The weirdest thing about the class, is everyone but one student was matching into the background. Almost as if Izuku didn't interact with them. The one student though, was obviously someone he had known for a long time. This was the first time he had seen someone have four shades of red. Power, strength, passion, and heat. He also had two shades of negativity. Both Masculinity, and Envy. His outline was Royal, a shade of purple.
"Interesting. A childhood friend? Or maybe something else…" He watched Izuku as class ended, and the colored child walked up to him. He snatched the book right out of Izuku's hand and it became damaged. It was then that the book and Izuku both lit up with Sadness.
"Sad for your book huh? The emotional type is always the one that gets through my heart." The two beings of color conversed, Kanōsei being unable to tell what they were saying. Although rare, emotional words always came up. The Anger spiked in Izuku, as the words roof and jump became clear. The worst part, is Anger spiked in the other child as well.
"Is Izuku angry at himself for not standing up, or is he angry at the boy for even suggesting it? Oh well. Let's keep moving on." Days progressed into months with nothing major happening, until the Fateful day. Or at least that was the color of the day on the calendar. It was a kind of silver. The boy arrived at the gates of U.A, and seemingly went through the motions. The exam was over rather quickly, then came the practical. In the stadium, a man rose from the stage and his colors were bright. Security and Happiness were the main two but colors of courage and friendliness were there as well. Kanōsei guessed it was a pro hero. Once the practical started, Izuku ran in. He seemed to be out of energy rather quickly. He didn't make it far into the arena when it seemed like the test had ended. He made his way back home, and never left his room. A bit of mail came in and it became worse. He didn't eat nor sleep. His mother worried from him based on her body posture. Within four weeks he had died.
"Well, that's not unexpected, he looked desperate and sad. Let's see the next." Kanōsei stepped seemingly nowhere, as he was in the class again. He watched the same scene unfold again. "An anchored point? This soon into the boy's life? Well that must be awful. Guaranteed to be bullied each and every time."
It was different this time. It seemed like the strong words of the bully encouraged him. He started to exercise over the next few months. Growing stronger by the day, to the point of even studying while working out. It was intense.
This timeline's entrance exam went much differently. To the point where he died sooner… "Wait? That cannot be right! Not at all!" Kanōsei walked backwards a bit, rewinding where he was. He watched carefully. The boy went around helping people instead of getting points on his own. That was when Kanōsei saw his death. The boy saw some rubble that was about to fall on a girl, and dove forwards, pushing her out of the way. He became the first death in all of U.A's history.
"So that ends two of the timelines." The third was the last till he was the one where he interacted. He just hoped that it couldn't get worse.
Worse is the only word to match. It seemed in the final timeline, Izuku had taken the other child's advice, and found an old abandoned skyscraper meant to be demolished in a few weeks. This horrified Kanōsei. The three points in time, all within the year of each other and the boy dies. The worst is that two of them were not completely his fault. The third wasn't either. Kanōsei saw his future in which he interacted. Which involved writing down an address, and time. He then quickly left. The note was shining with Hope, a golden color. He then followed himself in the scape of the boy. Something he learned he could do, only in this timeline. A cheat to peer into one of his own possible futures. He slammed on the doors of U.A. till someone came out. He talked with them till he was led to an office. He talked to the small being behind it and it was hours till they shook hands. It looked like this was what Kanōsei was going to have to do. He figured it out for the most part. He would go and talk to the principal about helping the boy somehow.
Kanōsei shot awake, "I need a pen and a paper!" Izuku quickly opened to an empty page of one of his notebooks, and wrote down the address of U.A. "You need to go here in one month. If you are as much as a fanboy as I think….
"It's the address to U.A.!" Izuku yelled out.
"Yes. Go there in a month. It might not be quite what you wanted out of life, but I believe you will help the most people and be a real hero this way." With that, Kanōsei left. The sun was starting to set as he ran his way to the train station. 'Fifteen minutes to the station, and another fifteen ride, finished with ten minutes to U.A. I gotta move quickly.'
He made it to the large metal doors of U.A. At which he started to bang on them harshly. Slamming his fists on the door. That was till a rather large man, who was completely grey, with a cube like head, opened the door. It was the pro hero Cementoss. "Can I help you?" His voice was lighter than one might think, but just as smooth.
"Yes! I need to speak with the principal! Right away. There is a child's life at stake!" Cementoss looked at his with curiosity, before reaching up to where his ear may have been, and answering a few questions. Then he motioned for the man to follow him. As Kanōsei was following, he noticed the cement ponytail behind the hero's head. Once they were inside, a small group of heroes were standing behind this weird mix of a rat, bear and dog.
Then the animal spoke, "So then, you said you needed to talk to me." That surprised Kanōsei but he just went with it.
"Long story short, there is a boy that wants to apply here, but the issue is he won't make it through. Or rather, he might not even make it through the next month. Long story short, I know you can't just let him into the school, but I told him to come here in a month. I needed to give him something that would keep him from ending it all."
Most of the people around the rat man were in shock, although there was a ban in all black with a grey scarf wrapped around his neck that was rather unphased, as well as the rat being unphased.
It spoke again, "How do you know all this."
"My quirk can't turn off, and he accidently touched my skin while helping me up…" The man slowly told each of them about each future, and about Izuku, or rather what he had learned from Izuku's emotions.
"My my, while that is a rather sad story. I cannot let a student with no merit into the school, however I do not what to lead to this student's death either." The group agreed, each of them offering out ideas that would make him happy, and be able to be somewhat heroic. That was when Kanōsei spoke up again.
"He can be a teacher. I heard that U.A. is looking for a new member to join the staff, and the kid is smart. Extremely so. He was the first person I had seen, with such a strong and raw emotional attachment to an object that it allowed my quirk to do two things. Read and see some color in the environment. What he had an attachment to was a group of notebooks labeled 'Hero notes for the future.' Each book had incredibly detailed works of art, as well as each one showing off strengths and weaknesses of heroes, not just quirks but personalities and physically too. I think he could definitely be added to the roster of teachers here, even if he wasn't a pro."
"Having a problem child teach problem children? Is that a smart idea?" The man in black spoke up, staring down Kanōsei.
"Some of the time I spent looking into his future, he spent it helping small kids, or even playing with them at the park! I really think he can do it. In fact I am sure he can."
"Well… I have been thinking of expanding what we teach. If these notebooks are real, then he could also work as a quirk counselor for the students on top of what I was thinking for him. You said he did well with small children right?" The rat addressed Kanōsei again. He nodded in return. "Well, what school does he go to? I can get him transferred here, just to instantly graduate him. If he is as smart as you say, then I can get right to work with him."
"The location is Aldera High. I had to look it up on the way here, or rather backtrack his steps from his home with google maps." He laughed a little while getting stares from the pro heroes in the room.
It was then that the rat picked up a phone, and called someone. Kanōsei assumed it was someone on the board of education. They continued to talk while he pulled a laptop out from seemingly nowhere and started to send away emails. "Oh you are fine to leave. Just one last question. What is the boy's full name?"
"Izuku Midoriya. I promise that he will be the best person he can be, and an even better teacher!" The man just realized he made a promise to a highly powerful, government affiliated company, with little to no evidence. Hell the rat named Nezu knew that the man barely knew the kid. He had figured it out from speech patterns and body language. Nezu just liked to take risks, and even more so, liked to save children from the hands of their tormenters. Much like someone had done for him oh so long ago.
Author's note:
Hey! Uhhhhh. I thought this would be a cool concept. I have seen Izuku as a teacher before, but it was usually grown up, or with a more tragic or worse backstory. Yes I have plans for this series, and yes I know that all the characters may not act EXACTLY like they do in cannon. I'm not Kōhei Horikoshi. I'm also not Japanese, so expect OC names to have very little subtlety. Anyway, please review, follow, review and keep reading!
