"What exactly is all this?" Lucy asked.

In front of her was a massive board that seemed to depict an organization's structure of some sorts.

In the center was a large black circle titled 'Balam Alliance'. Inside of it were three groups: Oracion Seis, Tartaros, and Grimoire Heart. Several branches snaked out from the Balam Alliance and Lucy couldn't help but feel a bit overwhelmed at all of the information. Lucy also couldn't help but notice that a lot of the smaller circles that branched out from the Balam Alliance had been crossed out with a red marker.

"This is an alliance chart of all of the dark guilds that we know." Mirajane explained.

"Okay, but why?" Lucy asked.

"The dark guild's we've been tracking have become unusually active as of late. We've been thinking of strengthening inter-guild relations." Mirajane added.

"Then what's that big circle in the middle?" Elfman asked.

Ah, Juvia knows what that is. The Balam Alliance is the most powerful alliance out of all the dark guilds. They are made up of three guilds: Oracion Seis, Tartaros, and Grimoire Heart. Each of them have lesser guilds under their control and keep the underworld in check." Juvia replied.

"Ah, I hope they're not angry with us…" Lucy whimpered. "This is starting to get too scary!"

"But how tough can the Oracion Seis be? How can a guild made up of just six people be that strong?" a guild member noted.

"About Oracion Seis…" a low voice began behind everyone. "We're going to take them down!"

The sudden revelation seemed to shock the entire guild. Everyone turned around to see Makarov marching into the guild, donning the cloak of the Wizard Saints. His expression was stern and serious, a face he rarely ever wore unless the situation was dire.

"Oh, welcome back Master!" Mirajane answered cheerfully.

"How are you reacting that way!?" Lucy exclaimed.

"Master, what is this all about?" Erza asked.

"It was decided that something had to be done about the Oracion Seis. It seems that they're up to something. This development couldn't be ignored, so a guild will be sent in to eliminate them." Makarov began.

"And you happened to draw the losing straw, huh?" Gray sighed.

"So is Fairy Tail shouldering all of that responsibility?" Juvia questioned.

"Not quite. This enemy is too large for that. If we went in alone, we would become the sole target for the Balam Alliance's wrath. So, we're going to form an alliance of our own!" Makarov declared.

"AN ALLIANCE!?" everyone collectively yelled.

"Fairy Tail, Blue Pegasus, Lamia Scale, and Cait Shelter. Each one will be selecting members and those members will be joining forces to eliminate the enemy."

"We can handle those guys all by ourselves!" Natsu roared.

"Natsu, Master is thinking about the long-term." Erza chastised.

"So, who're we sending?" Gray asked.

"Five people from our guild will be participating. For this operation, I've decided to select Natsu, Gray, Erza, and Lucy to be our representatives."

"WAIT, ME!?" Lucy wailed.

"All right! I'm all fired up! Time to kick some ass!" Natsu cheered.

"You should be honored that the Master personally chose you. It only goes to show how much you've grown since the first time we met." Erza assured with a pat on Lucy's shoulder.

"Nooooo! I don't wanna go!" Lucy cried.

"Master, you mentioned that five of us will be joining, but you have only named four of us," Erza said. "Who else will be joining us?"

Makarov only grinned at Erza's question. He took out a white envelope and held it into the air. "I have just received word from one of our own who was out in the field until recently. Vergil will be joining us for this operation."

Upon hearing the name, the entire guild went quiet. The air turned cold and Lucy couldn't help but shiver as a breeze swept through her body.

"Y-you're kidding me…" Natsu gasped.

"He's joining us!?" Gray exclaimed in terror.

"Huh? Why's everyone so scared?" Lucy asked worriedly.

"Lucy, do you remember the S-Class wizards that are a part of Fairy Tail?" Erza asked.

"Huh?" Lucy turned towards Erza, and her heart nearly stopped when she saw how serious Erza looked. "W-well, there's you, Mystogan, Laxus, Gildarts-"

"And Vergil. He is one of the S-Class wizards registered in Fairy Tail." Erza affirmed.

"Because that guy's power is on a whole other level…" Gray said, his body shuddering. "When he fights, he doesn't leave any trace of his enemies behind."

"Yeah. He's really strong. I couldn't even see him draw his sword when he destroyed that monster in the forest three years ago." Natsu added.

Lucy expected Natsu to become even more fired up after hearing that this Vergil person was going to join, but he was mostly silent. This scared Lucy to no end. Just how strong was this guy if just a mention of his name could shut Natsu up!? And why was someone so terrifying in Fairy Tail in the first place!?

"Vergil is more than simply being an S-Class wizard. He also holds the title as Fairy Tail's strongest swordsman." Erza said.

"E-even stronger than you?" Lucy whispered.

Erza nodded. "Many of the dark guilds you see crossed out in that board are mostly due to him. He has acquired other titles given to him by his enemies. 'Harbinger', 'The Lightning Swordsman', and many more. But one name has stuck with him ever since he took on his first S-Class assignment…"

"And that is?" Lucy was now too terrified to ask.

Erza looked Lucy right into her eyes, and the blond nearly fainted from fear. "Vergil the Dark Slayer."

"Kh…"

Vergil softly groaned as he clutched his head. As his mind began to clear, the first thing Vergil noticed was the fact that there was sunlight over his head. That immediately alerted him and he sat upright quickly. He slowly opened his eyes and sure enough, the sun was bright and hanging high over his head. This confused Vergil. The sun never shone in the Underworld. In fact, the Underworld didn't have any forests.

"Where..is this?" Vergil mumbled. He slowly sat up from the soft grass and observed his surroundings. The only thing he saw so far was a myriad of trees. Aside from the occasional chirp from a bird, he couldn't sense any other living things. Vergil's left hand grasped at nothing, as if it was trying to hold onto something that wasn't there. A brief moment of panic took over him as he realized that the Yamato was not in his hands. But that brief moment of tension was relieved when he saw his precious sword leaning against the side of a tree. He walked over to it and took hold of it. The Devil Arm immediately resonated with him and Vergil slightly unsheathed the weapon, staring at his own reflection.

"I'm…younger…" Vergil calmly mouthed. Several decades had passed ever since he fought Dante in the Underworld after Arkham had been vanquished. How was it that he looked the exact same as he did all those years ago? Vergil was left even more confused as he stared at his clothes which were the same shade of black when his human half and his demonic half finally joined together.

"That's right…we went to the Underworld to sever the Qliphoth roots and seal the entrance with the Yamato. After we did that, I can't recall anything else…"

Vergil fully drew the Yamato and focused his demonic energy around the blade. He closed his eyes and mentally imagined the last location he remembered seeing Dante. With two quick slashes, Vergil cut the air and a portal appeared.

"At least the Yamato's power is working. Now, to finally settle the score with my idiotic younger brother…"

Vergil sheathed his blade and calmly stepped into the portal. As he passed through it, he expected to end up back in the Underworld with Dante waiting for him with that infuriating smug grin he always seemed to wear.

But what Vergil didn't expect was ending up in another completely foreign location. Instead of the cold and dark Underworld, his portal led him to a barren canyon. The eldest son of Sparda stared blankly into the vast emptiness with his mouth slightly agape.

"Impossible. Not even the Yamato can bring me back?" Vergil asked himself. "And this feeling…it's faint, but I can feel what appears to be magical energy or the equivalent of it making up the air as if it's made of it. As ridiculous as it may seem, but it seems I have ended up in an entirely different world. Our score will have to wait, Dante. For now, I must find a way back to the Underworld…"

"Hm…that's an interesting sword you have there."

Upon hearing the unknown voice, Vergil's body reacted automatically by having him draw the Yamato and turning around to face whoever was talking to him. Behind him was a tall and gorgeous blond woman. Her long hair fell down to her waist and the kimono she wore only barely covered the shape of her body due to how loose it was. A soft wooden clacking noise echoed whenever she took a step forward in her wooden sandals. She only grinned even as the Devil Arm was levied against her, but that wasn't what was causing Vergil to be so hostile.

He could sense an enormous amount of…something emanating from her. It felt similar to the strange and persistent energy he felt when he first woke up in this world. The energy when he was alone constantly itched at his skin, almost as if it was resonating with him. He had never felt more alive and invigorated, even when his demon and human halves finally merged together. But standing in front of this woman, he could feel oceans of this power pouring out of her very being. The only thing he could equate this feeling was magic, something that demons and very few humans could wield and possess in his world. If what he was feeling was anything similar to magic in his world, then the woman before him was very powerful. Maybe even on the same level as Dante or even himself.

Vergil knew pride was one of his fatal flaws. That was how he was bested by Mundus and turned into a mindless puppet in the first place. But no more. In the face of such a powerful opponent, he could not afford to make the same mistake again.

"Who are you?" Vergil asked in an icy tone. His body was tense, ready to strike first should the woman before him displayed any sign of hostility.

The blond woman softly laughed, eyeing the Yamato and showing no fear despite the blade's point being mere centimeters away from her face. "My name is Selene. The Moon Dragon God."

"Moon Dragon God?" Vergil questioned. The title was unfamiliar to him.

"Yes. And you…you're human. Yet, I can sense another power dwelling deep inside you. A monster? No…something darker, perhaps?" Selene wondered out loud. "You are powerful, human. I can feel it."

Vergil's glare only hardened when he saw this woman who proclaimed herself to be some kind of god get more and more amused. "Do not mock me. I am more than some human. I am the Son of Sparda. Someone like you cannot possibly compare."

"Oh? Can't possibly compare?" Selene asked softly. Her grin still remained, but a shadow fell on her face. "We shall see."

In a burst of movement so fast any lesser foe would've been overwhelmed, Vergil rushed forward and at every vital point he could with precision. But the Yamato didn't cut through flesh and bone like he intended. Selene managed to dodge in time by jumping over him and gracefully floating down behind him.

"This power…this is what I've been searching for! The power to distort this world!" Selene laughed in glee. Holding up her arm, she watched as parts of her kimono slowly fell to the ground due to it being cut by the Yamato. "More…I want to distort you more!"

"Hmph. Don't get so cocky." Vergil scoffed as he straightened his collar.

"The moonlight shines the flames of the gods…" Selene chanted.

"Down you go!" Vergil exclaimed. He sheathed the Yamato and began to draw and sheath it in rapid succession, unleashing several Judgment Cuts at Selene.

Selene suddenly flew side to side as the air around her was cut by an invisible force. She somehow saw the attacks coming and managed to escape each one unharmed. Her grin only grew as she continued to dodge Vergil's attacks.

"Moonlight Flame!" Selene declared.

Vergil soon found himself surrounded by a tornado of white fire. Despite how large the tornado of fire was, he couldn't feel any sort of heat from it. But his instincts warned him that touching these flames was not something he could afford to do.

"Such child's play!" Vergil grunted. He extended his right hand out and a blade made out of blue flames formed, its shape distinctly similar to the Force Edge he wielded long ago. With two rapid swings, two blasts of demonic magic shot out from the blade and tore through Selene's attack.

"So you were able to cut through my magic…" Selene muttered. A cut suddenly appeared on her right cheek, drawing blood. Her eyes widened in shock and she placed a hand on the cut where she stared at her own blood.

"How disappointing," Vergil sighed. "I was hoping for something a bit more from someone who calls herself a god. This barely counts as a warmup."

"Fufufu…" Selene softly laughed. "It's been quite some time since I met a human as arrogant as you. How very interesting!"

The ground underneath Vergil's feet began to shake as an overwhelming weight crashed onto his shoulders. Chunks of the ground floated up before disintegrating. It was as if the entire world's foundation was trembling in the might of this woman's power. Despite the massive amount of power and energy Vergil was feeling from his foe, he stood tall and firm amid the chaos. Instead, he simply placed a hand on the Yamato's hilt, ready to draw it at a moment's notice.

"Come, let us see what happens when I get a little bit serious after so long, human!" Selene roared. Her once calm disposition was now gone, replaced completely with the eyes of a madman and the smile of a psychopath.

"...Let's have some fun." Vergil replied.

"The moon wanes like a swift wind…"

Vergil immediately drew his sword and parried the first attack. But Selene didn't let up, continuously shooting the white crescent blades at Vergil.

"Moonlight Blade!" Selene declared.

"This speed…!" Vergil grunted. He slashed rapidly, cutting through every blade Selene launched at him. Her speed, which Vergil considered slightly above average when she dodged his first few attacks, had now skyrocketed to the point where he had to concentrate solely on blocking and parrying Selene's technique. To top it all off, the power behind her magic had increased tenfold too.

"Guh!" Vergil could feel one blade pass through his defenses and slash through his waist. He activated his teleportation skill and began to dodge left and right by occasionally vanishing and reappearing. "Impossible…to think that something like this could get past me!"

"Dance, human. Dance madly to the moon's magical power." Selene ordered.

"No. You will be the one dancing!" Vergil shouted.

"Huh!?" Selene looked up and saw several blue blades hanging above her. They shot down without hesitation, stabbing and skewering her. Even as she desperately flew to the side, the damage had already been done. The blades that managed to pierce through her skin remained before vanishing away in blue motes of light.

"Gah!" Selene grunted in pain. "Now I see. That power of yours…it is not of this world."

Vergil simply got into a ready stance to draw his sword again. "And what does that matter to you?"

"Being defeated by a human from another world…yes. That is a distortion in and of itself. Not a bad outcome, but not yet. For now, shall I start by pulling out your intestines?"

With a motion of her hand, an eruption of white magic forced Vergil to jump away. He continued to run across the ground looking for an opening, but Selene continued her relentless assault, leaving no opening for Vergil to act.

"I've had enough of this. I will end this here and now!" Vergil exclaimed. He quickly teleported away from another eruption and crouched down low, his hand hovering over his sword's handle.

"And what do you think you're trying to do?" Selene scoffed. "End this here and now? A human's arrogance knows no bounds!"

But right as she was about to launch another blast of magical energy, she felt a sudden chill run down her back. Impossible! How could she, one of the Dragon Gods, feel this sensation? Did the temperature drop? Or was this feeling…fear?

"W-what is this!?" Selene demanded. The pressure around her continued to grow and grow, until she remained in place, unable to move. The sky seemed to darken in accordance to Vergil's will.

Vergil said nothing. He simply heaved out a deep sigh, and placed his hand on the Yamato.

"You shall die!"

And then reality itself shattered. Selene was powerless to do anything as Vergil vanished and reappeared within a split second. There was no escape as soon as he unleashed his ultimate technique. A technique that would push his body and powers to its absolute limits, but could even cut through reality itself. The space around him distorted and cracked like broken glass. As Vergil slowly sheathed the Yamato, he couldn't help but take a little bit of pleasure in seeing Selene's frozen expression of abject terror. The Yamato was fully sheathed, and Selene's body tore itself apart. Her right arm and both legs flew off, with several lacerations shredding the front of her body.

"I-impossible…" Selene coughed out. Her body fell to the ground and she began to weakly crawl away from Vergil. "That power…what are you?"

"Impressive. You managed to retain most of your body. I intended to reduce you to nothing with my attack," Vergil answered. "You kept on calling me a human. You're not wrong, but you're missing something important. I am the son of Sparda, the demon general who sealed Mundus. And I have surpassed his power."

"A…demon?" Selene weakly asked. "I see…so that was the source of your distortion…"

With her remaining arm, Selene formed a portal made of water in the air and crawled to it. "Make no mistake. I will be back and I will have my revenge! No matter what, I will distort your entire being and this world!"

Vergil watched as Selene crawled through her portal and disappeared. He could've easily finished her off, but held back. He would get no enjoyment from kicking an injured dog. His warrior's pride wouldn't allow it.

"Do what you want to this world. But I will never submit to anyone, let alone you." Vergil promised.

He stared at the bloody trail Selene left behind, and then turned away. The outlines of a village could be seen a couple of miles from where he was standing. For now, he would have to make his way there in order to get his bearings. Encountering an extremely powerful being right off the get-go didn't exactly give him the best impression of this strange world, but he needed to know more in order to get back to his world.

"I don't know what this world is, but soon it will know the full power of this demon. The power of Sparda."

With that declaration, Vergil began to trek through the desert towards the town.

"Are we even sure we're in the right place?" Natsu grumbled. "We've been wandering around this forest for hours! Where is this stupid monster!?"

The request they accepted asked for a monster that was wreaking havoc in a town far away to be taken care of. Apparently, the locals even claimed it talked. This only excited Natsu when he saw the job poster in the guild, but he forgot to bring the map that was attached to the flier in his excitement. Now, they were wandering helplessly in some thick forest.

"Did you even bring the map, Natsu?" Happy asked.

"What map?" Natsu asked confusedly.

All Happy could do was sigh and shake his head. "Idiot-Natsu strikes again…"

"Hey! Who're you calling an idiot!?" Natsu demanded.

ROOOOOOOOAR!

"Eep!" Happy whimpered.

"That sounded awfully close…" Natsu mumbled. He then smashed his fist together and flames began to gather around him. "Now I'm all fired up!"

"Natsu! Wait!" Happy wailed as the fire dragonslayer suddenly sped off towards the noise.

Thanks to Natsu's enhanced sense of hearing, he was able to narrow down the location of the monster. The more he ran, the more he was able to smell the monster. It smelled terrible, but there was another scent that only motivated him further. The smell of blood was mixed in.

"SPARDA! I KNOW YOU'RE HERE!"

"Holy crap, it really can speak!" Natsu said. "Now this is starting to get interesting!"

Natsu burst out into a clearing to finally confront the monster. And when he saw his foe, his jaw nearly dropped.

The beast was massive, standing on two feet that resembled the feet of a chicken. Its skin was an ugly gray and its massive head had a single broken horn jutting out from the top of its skull. It seemed to be missing one eye, as its other one was gone with a scar coming down the opening. What made this monster even weirder was the fact that it had two pairs of small wings that protruded from its back.

"Hey, you monster!" Natsu yelled.

The creature stopped its ensuing rampage and glared hatefully at Natsu. "A human? Such a wretched scent! You are not worthy as my opponent! Begone if you want your life to be spared!

"Ha! Not worthy, eh?" Natsu laughed. His right fist lit on fire and the dragonslayer leaped towards the monster. "We'll see about that! Fire Dragon's Iron Fist!"

Natsu punched the monster's chest with his enhanced punch, slamming the monster back several feet. But all that was left was a slight scorch mark on its chest. It let out a low grumble and its one eye lit up in anger.

"You dare raise a hand against a demon? I'll make sure your death is as painful as possible!"

"Tch. He's not even fazed!?" Natsu grumbled. "I need more firepower then. Fire Dragon's Roar!"

Natu's stomach expanded briefly before he opened his mouth and released a stream of fire. It washed over the demon and lit the surrounding forest around him on fire.

"Whoops!" Natsu sheepishly mumbled as he watched the vegetation around him go up in flames. "The Master's gonna kill me…"

"Such lukewarm flames. Now you will die for invoking the wrath of Beowulf!"

"What!?" Natsu exclaimed in surprise. Beowulf charged out of the flames and swung an arm at Natsu. The dragonslayer saw the attack coming and put his arms up to defend himself, but found himself being knocked back several feet when the monster made contact. His back slammed against a tree and blood flew out of his mouth.

"Kah!" Natsu groaned. He slumped to the ground and tried to get up, but his body refused to move. His entire chest hurt, indicating that he broke more than one rib.

"Your powers are interesting, but you are not worthy as my opponent. No human can possibly stand up to the might of a demon. Now, you shall die!"

Beowulf raised his fist and swung down at Natsu. But something swooped in at the last second and snatched Natsu away before Beowulf's fist could turn him into paste.

"Happy…" Natsu groaned.

"Natsu! We have to get out of here!" Happy exclaimed.

"Not yet…I have to finish the job…" Natsu replied. He tried to break free from Natsu's grasp, but he was too weak to break away from the flying cat's grip.

"There is no escape from the mighty Beowulf!"

"Happy, look out!" Natsu yelled.

Happy began to dodge and weave through the air as several flying projectiles that looked like wings flew at them. He managed to dodge many of them, but the fact that there were several caused Happy to accidentally fly right into a tree. His head made a hollow bonk noise as he collided, sending both him and Natsu back to the ground.

"Dammit!" Natsu growled. He slowly got back up to his feet, despite his aching chest screaming at him not to move. "I'm not gonna let Happy die here!"

"Such a futile struggle. I take no satisfaction in killing a weakling, but you have insulted my pride for too long! Die as you remember the wrath of Beowulf!"

"Hm. You seem familiar."

"Huh!?"

One moment, the only thing Natsu could see was the imposing demon in front of him. The next moment, he was staring at the ground and someone was holding him up by the back of his jacket.

"W-what?" Natsu stammered. He glanced up to see the person that had saved him.

His savior appeared to be a young man wearing a black coat with his silver hair slicked back. A drawn katana was in his free hand, and Natsu could feel an overwhelming pressure emanating from the sword. It was a feeling he had never felt before, and just being near its vicinity sent chills down his spine. Whatever sword the man was holding, it was no ordinary blade.

Before Natsu could say anything else, the silver-haired man abruptly dropped him.

"H-hey!" Natsu protested.

"This foul scent…the stench of Sparda! I knew I smelled your scent the moment I came to this place! I shall end the bloodline of that treacherous traitor here and now!"

"Get outta here! He's too strong!" Natsu yelled in vain.

The man paid no attention to his words as he slowly approached Beowulf. He appeared calm and collected as if the massive monster before him was nothing more than a fly. This seemed to irk the monster, as it let out an angry roar and reared its fist back to squash the man.

"Look out!"

"So slow."

As the fist drew closer, the man simply sheathed his blade and closed it with a resounding click. That was when the monster literally disintegrated into thin air, leaving no trace behind except for a floating orb of light.

Natsu was left stunned and speechless. Without even raising a finger, the swordsman defeated the monster that incapacitated him in one hit. From the way he stood and the way he held his weapon, everything about the swordsman in front of Natsu screamed only one word:

Power.

The white-haired swordsman reached out towards the glowing orb that the monster had left behind after it was slain. It floated towards him and in a bright flash of light, a pair of glowing gauntlets and boots formed around the man's hands and feet. He stared at them for a bit before recalling them into motes of light.

"How quaint. To think that there were even more of your kind…"

"E-excuse me!"

"Hm?" Vergil glanced back to see the pink-haired child he had just saved. He was struggling to get up and from the bruises on his body, Vergil surmised that some of his ribs were broken. Well, that was what he got for picking a fight with a demon.

Though Vergil didn't expect him to have such a high-pitched voice.

"T-thank you for saving Natsu!" the same voice said. Vergil couldn't help but stare in shock as a blue cat with white wings sprouting from its back floated over to him.

"Happy…" Natsu groaned from behind.

"Hmph. Tell your friend to stop picking fights when he is such a weakling. Your magic is interesting, but not even those flames can melt a marshmallow." Vergil replied.

"Hey! I'm not weak!" Natsu protested angrily. "I just got caught off-guard! That's all!"

"That is also a weakness." Vergil pointed out. "Get back home before your bedtime, child. I don't have time to waste on immature children like you."

"I ain't kid, dammit!" Natsu roared before wincing in pain.

GROOOOOOWL!

The loud noise echoed through the forest, surprising Natsu and Happy.

"Uwaaaaah! Another monster!?" Happy wailed.

"No, it's-" Natsu started, but the same low noise sounded off again. When it did, both Natsu and Happy's eyes were drawn to the swordsman standing in the clearing.

Despite the situation, the man's face was stiff and stoic, and his posture remind still like a statue. He calmly turned away from the two.

"...Not a word." Vergil cautioned softly.

"Are you…hungry?" Happy asked.

The flying cat then yelped when a katana was suddenly aimed at him. He flew back and hid behind Natsu, shivering in fear.

"I am in no state." Vergil argued.

Instead of getting angry for pointing a sword at Happy, Natsu couldn't help but chuckle a bit. "No worries! Our guild hall's just a few miles down the path from here. It's pretty hard to miss Fairy Tail in this town after all!"

"Fairy…what?" Vergil asked.

Natsu and Happy blinked in surprise. "Wait, you don't know Fairy Tail?"

"I know of fairy tales. Stories that are told to children that usually consist of magic and other mythological elements. But I have never heard of this place you mention."

"Man, you must really be from the boonies if you don't Fairy Tail!" Natsu commented. This caused Vergil's brow to twitch slightly. "But whatever! We're the strongest guild and we have a lotta food too!"

"The strongest…" Vergil muttered. "The strongest in this world, you say?"

"Aye sir!" Happy cheered. "Fairy Tail is Fiore's number one guild!"

"The world's most powerful group of wizards…this seems interesting." Vergil said. With a flip of his black coat, he turned back to face Natsu and Happy. "Very well. Take me to this 'Fairy Tale' place. Let's see what the world's strongest has to offer for me. Though judging on your abilities, my expectations are not so high, fire wizard."

"Hey!"

"We're back!" Natsu roared, though instead of kicking down the guild's front doors like he usually did, Happy calmly carried him through the air.

"Whoa! What happened to you, Natsu?" one man exclaimed.

"I…fell down the stairs!" Natsu quickly replied.

"...Enough to break your ribs?"

"Nope. Natsu got one-shotted by this monster and got saved by that man over there." Happy corrected.

"Happy! You're ruining my reputation!" Natsu protested, but he was already being flown into the guild's infirmary.

What Vergil saw inside the large building named 'Fairy Tail' was a rather stereotypical pub. People all around sat on wooden barrels chugging down mugs of beer or eating food. From his human side's memories, it looked distinctly familiar to the pub that Morrison was found, except much bigger and livelier. The people seemed to be a more colorful bunch too, coming in all sorts of different shapes and sizes. And the atmosphere seemed much more free and relaxed in comparison to the bar where bounty-hunters frequented in his world.

But it was far too loud for his liking. This seemed like a place that his younger brother would enjoy instead.

"Haha! You look like you got your ass handed to ya, Natsu!" a boisterous female voice yelled.

"Aye sir!"

Vergil looked to the side to see a young girl sitting on top of a tower of beer barrels. She wore black punk clothes similar to the outfit his human side wore for a time and her long white hair was tied back into a ponytail.

The girl jumped off of her shaky seat and landed on the ground to take a closer look at Natsu. But as she did, she passed by Vergil and gave him a nasty glare. But to Vergil, the glare that would've made any other man run away in fear gave him the impression of a child trying her absolute best to appear frightening. And she was failing miserably.

"Hah? The hell're you?" the girl asked as she pointed at Vergil. "You're not a part of the guild. You the one that saved Natsu?"

"I have no obligation to tell you who I am." Vergil responded flatly.

"The hell!? You think you can just mosey up in here and act all high and mighty just cuz you're a little good-looking and carrying a spiffy sword!? I'm gonna kick your ass!"

"Mirajane, please be civil! He saved Natsu. We should be thanking him, not antagonizing him!" another voice scolded.

"Grr! I'm not gonna let some stranger disrespect me, Lisanna!" Mirajane howled.

"I'm sorry about my elder sister's behavior. She can be a little…passionate at times." the girl now named Lisanna apologized. She bore a striking resemblance to her angrier sister. Her white hair was shoulder-length and she wore a white button up shirt with a red skirt. She seemed to be the polar opposite of her sister, something that Vergil found somewhat relatable.

Vergil chose to say nothing as Lisanna dragged her yelling sister away from Vergil.

"So, you saved ol' flamebrain's ass, huh?" a voice behind Vergil asked.

The eldest son of Sparda glanced back to see a black-haired man approach him. For some reason, his shirt was missing, revealing a toned and muscular physique. A metal necklace with a cross on it hung from his neck and Vergil noticed that a blue emblem identical to the one Natsu had on his right shoulder was instead under his collarbone.

The man held a hand out to Vergil. "The name's Gray. Nice to meet ya."

All Vergil did was stare at Gray with a piercing glare. This caused Gray to falter a bit, but he eventually retracted his hand and walked away, grumbling under his breath.

"Oh? So you're the one who saved Natsu?"

"Kh!" Vergil suddenly jumped back when he realized that a short old man was standing on a table to make eye contact with him. He was so distracted by the bustling nature of the guild hall that he couldn't even sense the old man's presence.

"Bwahaha, didn't mean to scare ya there!" the old man laughed out.

The short man was wearing an orange and blue patterned outfit similar to a jester's clothes, but Vergil knew not to take the old man's appearance lightly. He could sense a tremendous amount of power leaking out from him. It wasn't as much as Selene's, but the fact that it made up most of the magical power he felt in the guildhall meant only one thing.

"Are you the leader of these children?" Vergil asked.

The man gave an affirmative nod. "The name's Makarov. Nice to meet ya!"

All Vergil could do was sigh tiredly as he sat down on an empty seat. "I am surrounded by complete idiots."

"Aw, don't be like that. Now, who might you be?" Makarov inquired.

"...Vergil." Vergil replied.

Various platters of food were then placed in front of Vergil. He stared at them in confusion for a bit before noticing that the same woman that had reined in her older sister was back and she was holding even more plates in her arms.

"Natsu briefed me on your situation. How you saved his life and he offered food in exchange." Lisanna cheerfully explained. "Don't worry about the money, and eat to your heart's content! Think of it as thanks for saving a dear friend of mine!"

"...Thank you." Vergil softly replied. As he was eating, he couldn't end up noticing that nearly everyone in the guild was eyeing him, especially Makarov. There was no malice in their eyes. Rather, it was probably through a combination of curiosity and awe.

"What do you want?" Vergil finally asked when he had enough of Makarov's staring.

"You're a long way from home, aren't you?" Makarov inquired.

This caused Vergil's stare to harden. "And what does it mean to you?"

Vergil's sudden defensiveness didn't seem to affect Makarov much. He simply gave a casual grin. "Nothing. Just seems like you've been traveling a lot."

Vergil looked down at his admittedly dirty clothes and sighed. "It's none of your business."

"It must be some kind of fate. The fact that someone who has never even heard of our guild ended up here while saving one of my children. We must repay you somehow." Makarov said.

"The food is enough." Vergil answered.

"But do you have a place to stay? Do you have enough money to live in a hotel while you're here? The fact that you haven't heard of Fairy Tail means that you're a long way from home. But we can solve all of that. Give you a steady source of income while having you settled down in Magnolia." Makarov explained. "And I can tell from your eyes that you are a strong warrior indeed, but are somewhat aimless."

Vergil couldn't help but sigh impatiently as he got up from his chair. "Just what exactly are you implying here?"

A grin slowly appeared on Makarov's face. "Do you want to join Fairy Tail?"

And there we have it. What everyone think about this first chapter? I recently got into the Devil May Cry series and I was kinda disappointed by the lack of complete or long stories of DMC crossovers in this website. So, I decided to try my own hand at this. For this story, Vergil is going to be the main focal point of this story. I chose him not only because he's a badass, but because I think he's going to be an interesting character to explore now that he's canonically back. After the events of DMC 5, Vergil's personality has slightly changed. He's still the stoic and proud swordsman we all know and love, but you can tell that after he regains his power in DMC 5, he's become more human and less of a cold-hearted demon. So it's going to be interesting how he develops when he's in a guild surrounded by a bunch of lovable idiots who are tied by a special bond.

As for the beginning fight in this story, some of you may be outright confused on who this "Selene" character is and some of you might be confused as to why I chose her to be Vergil's opponent. To make a long story short, Selene is a character that appears in Fairy Tail's epilogue manga. The reason I introduced her so early on is not only because of her own nature, but to cement Vergil's power level in the Fairy Tail world. For those who haven't read the epilogue manga yet, think of Selene as an extra or hidden boss that's way tougher than the final boss in an RPG. Vergil was able to defeat her by using Judgement Cut End, but both were in their human forms. They're gonna have a rematch one day, so look forward to that.

The rating on this story is what it is because I don't want to hold back on the violence in this story. DMC is no stranger to violence and gore, plus the og Fairy Tail manga was pretty brutal at certain points only for the anime to censor them. I want to do both stories right, so that's why I chose the rating for this story.

Some of you may be wondering if other characters from the DMC series (especially Dante) are gonna make an appearance in this story, and some may be confused why Beowulf showed up again. Beowulf's appearance is gonna be explained in the later chapters. As for other DMC characters, that's gonna be a secret for now. But I will say is that the younger Sparda twin will show up one day. And hopefully someone will be keeping an accurate tally of their wins and losses against each other.

Edit: I've read all of the comments on this story, and I made the decision to put the introduction of Vergil as an S-Class member of Fairy Tail and put it before him fighting Selene and Beowulf. This way, I can spend the time having Vergil getting settled into Fairy Tail as well as not making the sudden timeskip so jarring. Hopefully this'll put aside some of the grievances and make the story more enjoyable and readable.
