"We've been invited to what?" Asked Scotty, "A ball Scotty, it's sort of like a big dance. You will come right?" Kirk replied.
Scotty wasn't sure, but he knew that if he didn't go Kirk was most likely going to drag him along anyway. "Of course."
Kirk beamed in excitement, "Brilliant! Meet you in the transporter room at 18:00." Scotty nodded as Kirk walked away.
Once he was out of sighed Scotty sighed loudly, "What's up Scotty?" Asked Lexie. "Nothing lass, you going to this ball?"
Lexie nodded, "Yeah, I can't wait to dance." Scotty sighed, "At least you're looking forward to that part."
"The truth is lass, I can't dance, not the type you do at a ball anyway." Scotty admitted. Lexie chuckled sweetly.
"In that case…" Lexie grabbed a hold of Scotty's hand, "Lass, what are you doing?" "I'm going to teach you how to dance."
Scotty's face was a picture, "What?!" Once again Lexie chuckled. "I'm going to teach you how to ballroom dance."
It wasn't as if he had a choice in the matter, since Lexie had already dragged him to one of the rec rooms.
They walked in to see a few Ensigns sitting around a table, "Sorry guys, gonna have to ask ya to leave."
"May we ask why?" One asked, obviously they were confused at what Lexie had just asked.
"Because me and Mr Scott have some work to do, now get going or do I have to order you?" Lexie said sternly.
The Ensigns quickly got up from the table and left the room, saluting as they went.
Lexie sighed quietly, she never liked to order anyone to do anything, but it did come in handy sometimes.
She then placed a 'Do Not Disturb' sign on the door, since she knew Scotty wouldn't appreciate people walking in.
"I'm not convinced that you're going to be able to teach me lass…" The Scotsman muttered nervously.
Lexie patted him on the shoulder, "Of course I will Scotty, ball room dancing is easy once you know what ya doing."
Firstly, Lexie got Scotty's arms in the right place. One on Lexie's hip and the other holding her hand up.
Then she placed her other hand on Scotty's shoulder, "Computer: Play selected track." Lexie shouted.
She had set up a music track for the Computer to play while they danced, "Just copy me Scotty, you'll do great."
Feeling a little nervous, Scotty began to cautiously take steps. Following quite literally in Lexie's footsteps.
Every so often stepping on either one of Lexie's feet, "Sorry lass." He muttered every time he did so.
"It's OK, all part of practice." Lexie replied, despite him claiming he had never done this before, Scotty was almost a natural.
After a couple of hours, Scotty was dancing as if he had done this all his life. "See, told you I would be able to teach ya."
Lexie said after asking the Computer to stop the track, "Never doubted ya lassie, thanks."
"You're welcome, it was nice to teach some one again." Lexie stated, "You've taught someone else before me?"
Scotty asked as they headed out of the rec room, "Yeah, a long time ago. Now we should get ready or we'll be late."
The Scotsman agreed, it wouldn't look very good to arrive late to a Federation ball.
It wasn't long before they had all beamed down, all except Lexie who had told Kirk she would beam down after them.
Scotty stood on the steps next to Kirk and McCoy, while the crew paired up and began to dance. When a voice called to them.
They turned to see Lexie standing at the top of the staircase, in a gorgeous blue gown. Scotty just blinked.
"You look beautiful lass…" He said while he watched her walk elegantly down the steps. "Thanks Scotty, care for a dance?"
Scotty nodded as he took his young friend by the arm and headed onto the main floor, while Kirk and McCoy watched on.
Needless to say they were completely shocked at how well their Scotsman could dance, he was brilliant.
"Man of many talents is our Scotsman, wouldn't you say so Jim?" McCoy asked, a huge smile on his face.
"He sure is Bones, but I think he had a little help from our young friend." Kirk replied, as he gestured down the stairs.
"Shall we?" McCoy nodded, "Of course Jim, let's see if we can't make fools of ourselves."
Kirk laughed as he patted McCoy on the shoulder, the two of them then headed off. To enjoy their fancy evening.
