Victoria, Mio Core!

At any minute, the dawn can rise up and attack. One ray shines down and the vampire is exposed. Luckily, our senses trigger at the slight hint of the morning sun. Sometimes, though, our senses are clouded.

Something went wrong. That much I knew. So I was cloaked, dark as night, my red hair tied into a bun tucked into the hood. I didn't want the sun to attack me while I was wounded.

I saw a light ahead but it was not the sun. The sun isn't this close to the clay beneath my feet. The sun doesn't offer a cloud of smoke to the heavens. And then the hope crept back into the jar.

I ran to the site. The fire was still burning as bright and red as blood. I knew there was a path but I did not follow it. Everything disappeared to me except the roaring flames. I walked solemnly into them, looking to find something that wasn't there.

He was gone.

I could swear I heard singing. I had no idea flames make such sounds. Then I saw that it was just my memory. It was the memory of his beautiful voice serenading me when we were still young, changing the words to fit my name.
