Vitani's Quest chapter 3

Kovu and his sister saw two female baboons chase two cheetahs off from their two prey, two male gazelles.

"Fortune favors us brother," Vitani said in a smug tone.

"Yes it has, my dear sister," Kovu agreed.

Without further ado, the former outsiders leapt from behind an accident bush at the baboons, who tried to flee, but were quickly overtaken and their necks broken by the two lions jaws. Vitani immediately challenged Kovu to a fight; the winner took the gazelles, and the loser ate the monkeys. With a sigh, Kovu said, "Fine."

The two ran at each other and went at it, Kovu having to use his bigger size to absorb or block attacks from his smaller built and faster sibling. Eventually, Kovu clotheslined his sister with his paw as she rushed at him, knocking the wind out of her. Kovu pinned her and she begrudgingly surrendered.

"Those monkeys were delicious," Vitani said, licking her lips. She had eaten both Baboons. Kovu was full after eating only one gazelle.

"These gazelles we're pretty good too. I guess your heading off now sis."

"Yes little bro. See you when I see you."

"Happy trails, warrior lioness."

After one last nuzzle, Vitani and Kovu parted ways. She headed southwest, while he watched her disappear into the horizon before heading back to Pride Rock.

Vitani walked for four days, only stopping when she was literally too exhausted and sleepy to continue, as well as to eat and drink. She wanted to get as far away from the Pridelands as possible, and resting took up valuable time. She also hunted small, easy-to-catch prey would that she wouldn't expend too much energy hunting and could walk for longer periods of time. Vitani also stayed close to the river that ran through the Pridelands, and where her mother had died.

"Why couldn't you accept mercy mother," Vitani asked herself numerous times. A better question was why she ever followed Zira's obscene cause.

On the fifth day, Vitani, who had managed to cover 100 miles every 24 hours, exited the desert wastelands and reached the Marshlands. She walked further for about a mile, until she heard a series of bellows from her left. She saw two bull elephants battling each other, one of them clearly in Musth. The larger male, who was three feet taller than his opponent, was nonetheless losing the bout.

Thinking quickly, the daughter of Zira lifted up a stone at the bottom of the river she was in with her mouth. Vitani pointed the rock at the eye of the rogue elephant, who had pinned his rival. She reared up on her hind legs and launched the rock like a missile from her mouth. It pierced it's target's eye and entered the pachyderm's brain. With one final blood-curtling bellow, the musth-suffering elephant fell to the side.

The stunned larger male turned his head and stared at Vitani. She smiled and said, "Stay strong big guy," before running off. A few minutes later, Vitani saw four white lion Cubs in a tree. At it's base a snake, black mamba to be specific, started crawling up the tree trunk toward them. Without hesitation, Vitani leapt from twenty feet away and slammed her head into the reptile, crushing it's head into blood and guts. In the process, she knocked herself out and fractured her own skull.

Vitani felt water being poured on her face, and her eyes flickered before opening. She saw a female albino mandrill smiling at her.

"Glad to see you finally awake after three days."

"Three days ?!" Vitani asked in a stunned tone.

"You fractured your skull saving my cubs," a voice to Vitani's right spoke up. She saw a gorgeous and muscular white lioness smiling at her with emerald eyes.

"Thank you very much Miss…?

"Vitani, and what is your name?"

"Yoruba. I found you passed out at the base of the Umbrella thorn tree. My Cubs told me what happened and I brought you to our Shamness.

Just then, a maneless lion walked into the den, regarding Vitani with suspicion yet gratitude.

"So you're finally conscious again. My name is Chinua, king of these lands. I heard you say your name outside Vitani."

"It's an honor to meet you, your highness. Are you those Cubs father?"

Chinua shook his head and said, "No, their father was a Rogue male and fellow white lion who had to leave after he mated with Yoruba."

"My Cubs names are Nyota, Zuhura, Galaksi, and Piramidi," Yoruba explained. "They are all girls."

"When you recover you can meet them and the other 11 lionesses in my pride. Five of them are my sisters, the other seven, including Yoruba, were rescued from the desert by us."

"It will take 90 days for your fractures to heal Vitani," the albino baboon said apologetically.

"You don't have to stay lying down, but you don't leave this cave, and don't run or engage in any other vigorous activity. Listen to my instructions for you own good. My name is Kito by the way!"

Vitani nodded and thanked Kito for taking care of her.

"How was I fed and how will I feed sir?"

"I chewed and meat and it it in your mouth to swallow. Your jaw was affected by the blow to your head and you couldn't feed yourself."

Vitani blushed, realizing she'd received an indirect kiss from the king. The other lion snickered. Kito then removed the leaf bandages from the former outsider's head, picking up a bowl and spreading a dark green salve on her scalp, causing her to wince in pain.

"I know this hurts but it's necessary my daughter," Kito said sympathetically. Afterwards, she went out to get more leaves, while Chinua and Yoruba bid her goodbye and went to hunt Zebra for themselves and their guest.

I made the fathers of those cubs rogues to avoid the incest issue! Nyota means star(appropriate name for the Star Trek character), Zuhura means Brightness or Venus, Galaksi means galaxy, and Piramidi means pyramid. That elephant she saved will help her later on.
