I am here with first chapter of the side story revolving around Yang. I had planed for this to be started later. However, with her introduction in the main story being earlier than initially planned, I moved up the release date. I two quick things before we get on with the chapter. First is that the nature of Jaune's quirk may have been confusing to some, one person has already asked about it, so I'll explain it now. Jaune's quirk boosts the physical body which in turn boosts quirks because they are, on technicality, a physical ability. There is a physical part in the body, the quirk factor, which would get boosted when Jaune uses his quirk on someone, hence there quirk also gets boosted. How this happens obviously depends on the quirk. For those who don't know, Jaune's Semblance in RWBY boosts people's aura which in turn boosts their semblance. Since there are no aura's or semblances in this fic it got changed to the physical body and by extension quirks.

The second thing is that I'll be making a slight alteration to my update schedule. Before I'd do six chapters of this stories do at least one chapter of my other stories and one of this story's side stories. Following the release of this chapter I'll be doing things differently. For this story, I'll be counting two chapters of one of the side stories under the six in total I normally do. To make things clear it'll be structured like this; two main story chapters, one side story chapter, two main story chapters, one side story chapter. The side story chapter update will follow this order; first Blake's, then Weiss's, then Yang's, then back to Blake's and the cycle continues. With that out of the way let's get on with the story.

Chapter 1: A Day in the Life.

Yang sat in her seat on the bus as it took them to their destination, Lansdale Technical School. Due to the more varied ways in which schools are run in America, both from state to state as well as district to district, there is no definitive way in which hero courses are done. Generally, heroic classes are often taught at technical/vocational schools, this can be done both during and after highschool. For those in highschool, they will often have the beginning and end of the school day at their local highschools and be at the career center in the middle of the school day, they are bused to and from the career center by their school district. Because of this they will often interact with students from other nearby districts. In more rural areas, where there isn't as great of access to technical schools, sometimes the highschool will offer the heroics courses themselves. When this isn't the case or the student is homeschooled, they can still go into heroics after they graduate at a post-secondary technical school that offers it.

As they traveled, Yang looked out upon the area she had become accustomed to. It was a cool January morning. Snow covered the ground and the branches of the trees. To think it's been eight years since I arrived in this new world. How the time flys. It's kind of weird to think I'd be like 25 years by now instead of 15 if I hadn't been hit by the de-aging quirk. Though it hasn't been all bad. The process gave me my arm back. How did that work again? Something about that being how I was when I was that age. Still doesn't explain how I have a quirk instead of having aura and my semblance but that's something I can worry about later. Also… She looked to her boyfriend Blitz Caverne. Both her and Blitz are in their sophomore year of highschool. Blitz notices this, and gives her a confused looked.

"What?" Blitz expressed.

I don't care if I'm biologically 15 now, it's still weird that we're dating. Not the, I'm gonna stop dating him, weird… but still weird. I swear to god if someone makes an 'Ara Ara' joke one more time I'm gonna rip their throat out.

"Nothing, just lost in my thoughts." Yang expressed with a smile before she turned her attention back to looking out the window.

Blitz just shrugged.

"If you say so." He replied. "Anyways, think you're ready for the license exam today?"

"I'm more ready for that than I am for Sarge berating us 'for not being ready enough'. And with him, that's saying something." Yang pointed out.

"Amen to that." Blitz replied.

After a brief period of time they arrived at the technical school and made their way to their classroom.

"Heeeeey!" A cheerful voice called as she ran up from behind them.

She jumped up and hugged her arms around their necks. She was a short girl about their age with messy short curly white hair and fiery red eyes. Her name was Gina Lewis. She let go and dropped to the ground. They turned to face her. Yang was giggling while Blitz groaned in annoyance.

"Classic Gina." Yang noted.

"Do you have to do that every morning?" He grumbled.

"Would you expect any less of me?" Gina questioned.

"No," Blitz deadpanned before he cracked a smile. "After all a short stack like you has to feel tall sometimes."

Gina pouted before turning her nose up.

"I prefer the term compact." She stated as she walked forward and took the lead.

Her smile returned and she raised a fist into the air.

"Come on let's get to class!" Gina exclaimed before rushing on ahead.

Both Yang and Blitz chuckled at the now familiar sight for them. They followed her towards their classroom. Inside they spotted two of their other friends, who were conversing with one another. One as a fairly tall young man named Abraham Freiheit. He had long slicked-back straight jet black hair and brown eyes. The other was a young man named Ted Carow. He was more average height and had messy short brown hair. He had a slender yet muscular frame.

"Hellooooo." Yang sang as she waved at the duo.

"There you'se guys!" Gina called.

"Yo," Blitz expressed.

They turned towards them as the trio walked up to them.

"Hey guys." Abraham greeted.

"Was wondering when you'se guys were gonna show up." Ted noted.

"Not our fault our bus driver's slower than molasses on cold winters day." Blitz replied.

Suddenly the door was slammed open. In the doorway stood their heroics teacher, The Sergeant, most people refer to him as Sarge. He was a middle aged man with a rough yet militaristic appearance. He was dressed like a standard american soldier in World War two. His helmet seemed to cover his eyes. His presence exuded masculinity.

"ALRIGHT LADIES! It's time for you to make an attempt at a Junior Hero License!" Sarge declared.

Junior Hero Licenses are generally reserved for young people who pass the license exam. It gives the holder the authority of a hero in a situation, to a limited extent. Holders are able to engage and apprehend villains as well as assist in rescue scenarios. They do not have the legal power to conduct official investigations into individuals or run their own agency. However they can assist in investigations with the permission and supervision of a fully licensed hero. Once someone turns 18 they are promoted to a Full Hero License, removing the restrictions. If someone is 18 when they pass the license exam they get a Full Hero License right away.

"However in my professional opinion all but five of you are ready enough for this. Even of those five only two have a greater than fifty percent chance of passing!" Sarge declared. "But what did I say about my opinions?!"

There was a brief moment of silence. One student raised their hand. Sarge pointed at him.

"Aahhh… to prove you wrong." The student answered.

"ThaaaaAAAAT'S RIGHT!" Sarge declared. "Now get to your lockers, get those hero costumes on, and then meet me at the bus MAGGOTS!"

Sarge stepped out of the room and slammed the door closed. There was a brief moment of silence where no one moved or did anything.

"Still not used to him being like that." Someone finally spoke up.

Later…

Blitz walked out towards the buses with Abraham and Ted. Blitz's hero outfit consisted of a dark grey breastplate with a light blue section running down the middle. On his shoulders were lighter grey attachments with large gold clips on them. He wore a pair of dark blue pants which were tucked into dark brown boots.

Abraham wore a dark blue trench coat, which was opened. Under it he had on a white shirt. He wore a pair of dark blue pants which went into near knee-high brown boots. Ted's hero outfit left him shirtless with only a pair of army green shorts. He wore a brown belt around his waist and had on brown suspenders. He also wore a pair of brown boots.

"And to no one's surprise the girls aren't out yet." Blitz noted.

"Why do you feel the need to bring that up every, single, time." Ted expressed.

"Cause I feel like it." Blitz replied.

"And to no one's surprise, Blitz is complaining about us girls taking too long." Yang noted as she walked up to the group.

Her hero outfit was a tan jacket with orange lining and gold edging, unzipped halfway to show an orange crop top. The coat had darker brown short sleeves, a thick collar that completely encircled her neck, and two long gold-trimmed rectangular tails of the same color as her jacket, also with orange lining. She also wore fitted black pants. Around her hips and over the tails of her coat is a brown belt, which had two pieces of dark brown clothing trimmed in gold attached to it. The first covers from her left hip to the back of the belt and is folded over the belt, and the second is attached from the right hip and almost around to the other piece. She wore knee high brown boots with gold caps on the heel and toe, with the heel cap attaching to a gold strap across the front of her ankle, and a gold zipper on the upper half of the front of the boots. A purple bandanna is tied around her left knee. Lastly she wore a pair of black fingerless gloves with long brown cuffs reaching.

Next to her was Gina in her hero outfit. She wore a deep blue form fitting jacket with two rows of gold buttons running down the center. On it were a pair of gold colored shoulder cuffs. Under this was a white long-sleeved turtleneck shirt. She wore a short tan skirt with gold lining. She wore tan thigh high socks under black knee high boots.

"That's Blitz for ya." Gina expressed with a shrug.

"Quit standing around AND GET ON THE BUS MAGGOTS!" Sarge shouted.

They all quickly rushed onto the bus.

Later…

Yang and company stood among their classmates and hundreds of other students young and older waiting for the license exam to start. All of them had on a badge type object, each with a number. As they did they made small talk with one another. Suddenly the PA system came to life. A man cleared his throat.

"Allllllright everybody, let's get this show on the road. I'll be the one giving you the lowdown on what's going on today." The voice spoke. "Now then, we've got two exams for you today, a rescue and combat portion to test your heroic chops. The first one is a simple mock disaster rescue. As soon as I finish my explanation, the doors to the main testing grounds are gonna open. Your goal is to go out and find as many of our friendly ah… 'disaster victims' as you can and bring them to the 'safezone', which will be just outside of the doors you'll be exiting soon. On top of the number you rescue you'll be given points based on a variety of other factors. What are those you ask? Can't say, wouldn't be much of a test if I just gave you all the answers. But that's all for me, once this test is over I'll be back to explain the next test for ya. Til then."

The minute he finished, the doors swung open. Everyone clamored to get out.

"Not even a minute in and they're failing the first hurtle." Abraham sighed.

"Indeed, in a rescue scenario cooperation is far more beneficial than competition." Gina noted.

"But isn't the whole hero system built around competition." Yang pointed out.

"And now you see the point of this test." Gina replied.

"We aren't given many clues to go off, we don't know how many people we have to rescue, we don't know how much time we have, we don't know what criteria we'll be assessed by, and we have to compete in an area where we'd be expected to cooperate." Blitz noted. "In short a decent recreation of the real world scenario."

"True words, now then… with that out of the way I believe we have a test to get to." Ted brought up.

"Right," Gina replied with a nod. "Blitz…"

Said boy bent down low.

"Get on everyone and hold on tight." He stated.

Everyone grabbed hold of him. Yang's arms were around his neck. Gina and Ted held on to his arms while Abraham wrapped his arms around Blitz's shoulder. With a mighty leap, Blitz practically flew over everyone else. They flew out the door and past everyone still scrambling to get out.

"Alright everyone let's treat this like a real scenario. We'll leave the area closest to the safezone to you Lord of Thunder. Send us out in groups of two. I'll go with Sun Dragon, Chain Breaker and Mountain Man will be together." Gina, whose hero name was Commander ordered.

"Right!" They all shouted.

Blitz spun around in the air. He quickly shifted everyone to a better position to throw. In one direction he launched Yang and Gina, in the other he sent Abraham and Ted. He shot himself forward towards the ground. He landed with a role and took off to find 'disaster victims'. Under some rubble he spotted a little boy trapped. He quickly went over to them.

"Hang on kid I'll get you out quick." He stated.

He looked over the way the rubble was laided.

"Alright here we go…" He muttered.

He carefully moved the rubble enough as to not disturb it too much with one arm. He used the other to gently pull the kid out. The kid acted like he was passed out.

"No major external injuries, and nothing to point to any other kind of trauma." He quickly assessed. "Likely passed out from shock.

He gently picked up the young boy and rushed towards the safe zone.

Meanwhile…

Gina braced herself as she began to lift some rubble that had trapped a group of people. The main structure was fairly sound but their exit had been blocked off. Yang quickly headed inside the enclosed area.

"Alright everybody, don't worry. Everything is going to be alright. All those able please make your way out of here. Help those who are unable if you can. We have an area already cleared out for you to go to." Yang ordered.

Everyone was quick to comply.

"Do we have anybody seriously injured?" Yang questioned.

"M-m-my son." A woman spoke up. "He got hit on the head really badly, he's not waking up."

"Let me see," Yang expressed as she went over to her.

She examined the boy carefully, trying to discern the type of injury they are simulating.

"It appears like it's a concussion. We'll need a proper doctor to look after him though. Good job on stopping the bleeding through." Yang expressed.

"Thank you and you get extra points." The woman expressed.

Yang cracked a wide goofy smile.

"No need to thank me ma'am, just doing my job." She declared.

Eventually they managed to get everyone outside. Gina now stood before them. Hmmm… based on the way they appear, it doesn't seem good to take them to the safe zone, not without more people.

"Alright everyone listen up, with only two of us here right now we can't take you to the safe zone. More heroes will be coming soon. In the meantime, I'll stay here and help out. Sun Dragon I want you to go out and search for more civilians." Gina expressed.

"Got it." Yang replied before rushing off.

"Alright, anyone who has any form of medical training, help me treat those who are injured." Gina ordered as she walked into the group.

Later…

Abraham and Ted were carrying four people out of a dilapidated building, two each. They quickly rushed them to an area they had cleared out so others examinees could take them back to the designated safe zone. They gently handed them off to other examinees.

"Alright we should keep looking for more civilians." Ted stated.

"Right." Abraham replied.

Suddenly the PA system came to life again.

"Alright everyone, the first test iiiiiiis overrrrrrrr. Thaaaat's right, put down the people you're carrying and wait where you are so they can leave. After they've all cleared out, we'll begin the final test. In the meantime let me explain things you'se guys." The man stated. "During the first test you were assigned points based on how well you did in the rescue with the max being 200 points. This score is shown on the badge you received when you were registered. Take a moment to check it out."

Both Abraham and Ted checked their badges to see their score. Ted showed 135 while Abraham's was 123.

"For this test it'll be an all out free for all. Your goal is to take these badges and rack up at least 1,000 points. Important thing to note is you can't hide your badges with anything except a use of your quirk. Once you've got enough you'll need to make your way to the waiting room you were in before the start of the exam. Do this and you pass the license exam. But remember any tag you have is ripe for the taking until you're in the waiting room. If you don't have enough when you arrive at the waiting room, you'll have to go back out and get the required points. If you pass, all your badges will be taken out of play. The test is over when it is no longer capable for someone to get one thousand points. Now if you could please wait a bit until we are sure all of our disaster actors are off the grounds. I'll let you know when you can start."

Immediately all eyes fell upon Ted and Abraham given they had the highest points out of anyone in the immediate area. Ted smirked.

"Well well well… looks like we've caught everyone's attention." He noted.

"I guess we went a little too hard in the first test." Abraham noted.

"What do you say we show them how real men fight?" Ted expressed.

"I believe you already know the answer my friend." Abraham replied with a confident smile.

The two ready themselves for the coming battle.

Elsewhere…

Yang and Gina were together close to the top of a broken skyscraper when the first test ended. Due to the area they were in, there we're not as many people in need of rescue. As such Yang only gained 82 points while Gina gained 97. Both girls were seemingly alone.

"So what's the plan because it doesn't look like there aren't many people nearby." Yang noted.

"Hmmm… let's see… if we head closer towards the waiting room, we'll likely run into more people. It's likely that many will opt to sticking closer to the exit point, both for a quick trip once they have the required points and to catch out those heading there who already have the required points. That being we'll be attacked from all sides without a moment's rest. We could easily lose as many as we gain during that.

"If not that then we scavenge the area and look for people like us who haven't rushed towards the exit. But that also cares its own risks. One, we might not gain enough before the last person passes. Two, there's no guarantee we'll gain more badges than we lose. And three, we have to worry about surprise attacks catching us off guard."

"Well if you ask me I say we charge in towards the waiting room." Yang stated. "You forget, Bli… Lord of Thunder, is probably there which means a lot of those guys are gonna get knocked out."

"Your right, it's a little ways away but we can still take advantage of our friends' success." Gina expressed. "We'll just need to be careful along the way. We'll still need to worry about ambushes."

"Sounds like a plan Commander." Yang expressed.

"Still like the sound of that." Gina expressed smugly.

Elsewhere…

Blitz looked around him. He was surrounded by several of his fellow examinees. All had their eyes on his 200 point badge. He smirked.

"Well this will make things easier for me." He noted.

"And begin!" The man announced over the PA.

In an instant, everyone began to charge towards him. Barely a second later, they were all knocked out cold. Blitz now stood in the spot where he attacked the last of the examinees that had surrounded him. He was still in the attack position. He let out a grunt and rubbed his thighs.

"Pushed myself a little too hard there." He muttered.

He picked the various badges off of them all. He sorted through them quickly and did some mental math to make sure he had enough. Once he was sure, he tossed the remaining around.

"Not one to ruin others chances for no good reason." He noted before walking towards the waiting area.

Once inside he met with a representative there and had his points tallied. Once it was seen he had enough, much to their shock, he was deemed the first student to pass. Satisfied, he went and relaxed in a seat. At that moment he realized something.

"I'm gonna be bored out of my mind until everyone is finished." He groaned.
