I am back with more chapters. Also this is the first chapter in the new update format. Hope everyone's ready because I feel like I've written some good fights in the coming chapters, though some were hard to work out with the way quirks are. Before we get on with the story, let's reply to some reviews.

Dragon lord Syed 101: While Ruby, Blake, and Yang are close to the same age, in Yang's case only biologically, Weiss is in her early to mid-twenties.

Beasty5: Sarge, from this story, is meant to be a combination of Sarge from Red vs. Blue and the Soldier from Team Fortress 2.

With that out of the way, let's get on to the chapter.

Chapter 37: More Fights!

Mezo charged at Kumoko as she readied some thread. The six-armed boy used four of his arms to form eyes at the ends of them. He's looking to spot my threads. Kumoko thought to herself. Once Mezo was on her, he went to swipe at her. She quickly rolled out of the way and sent her threads towards, trying to avoid his field of view. However his six sets of eyes allowed him to see nearly everything around him and he was able to easily avoid them. He quickly retaliated and charged her again before she recovered. He swung his fist forward. She quickly raised her middle two arms to block it. She grunted in pain. The force of his punch sent her flying back. She flipped mid air and let her feet and two arms drag along the ground to slow her down. Mezo didn't relent and continued his attack. Her threads seem to be her greatest weapon. Their strength is impressive but they have their weaknesses. It seems that while she can control them, she can't do complex movements or sharp turns with them. They also appear to have to be attached to where they are produced in order to move. Also she can only produce them from her upper pair of arms. Mezo didn't give Kumoko time to rest. He relentlessly charged at her, while carefully avoiding her threads.

Kumoko barely managed to avoid his attempts to attack her. He's fast considering his size. I can't just keep dodging. She rolled out the way of another attack before backing flipping away from his next after he charged her. But I don't match up to his strength or durability. I need to outlast him so I can put my plan into motion. Kumoko eventually stopped sending out thread. She brought her upper two hands close together, but not touching. She began to produce threads and weaved them together. Despite Mezo's relentless assault she was able continue this without having to stop. Eventually she formed a whip with her thread. She tightened her grip on it with her right hand.

"Take this!" She shouted as she wiped at Mezo.

The boy dodged to his right. The wipe slammed into the ground with a crack, but was quickly pulled back towards Kumoko. Mezo had stopped his charge because of this. He eyed the whip. It doesn't look like it's attached so she probably can't control it. He mentally noted. Kumoko used this brief pause to catch her breath. She didn't have long however, as Mezo resumed his attack. She dodged his punch and retaliated with a crack of her whip. He deftly maneuvered out of the way of both the whip and the thread she tried to send towards him. This continued as they danced around the battlefield. Eventually Kumoko slipped up and took a punch directly to her stomach. She gagged a bit. She was sent tumbling across the ground and barely recovered in time before falling out of bounds.

She clutched her stomach in pain as she slowly got up. She still had her whip in hand. She tugged on it lightly, something seemed to slightly pick up off the ground. She smiled. She turned to see Mezo charging at her once again. She gripped onto the whip with all six of her arms.

"Time to end this!" She shouted.

She swung it upwards and suddenly threads that had been left over from her failed attempts to capture him across the stadium came to life. Mezo's eyes went wide as threads came from every angle.

"What the hell?!" He exclaimed.

"Nice little trick ain't it? The 'nerves', for a like of a better term, I use to control my threads are still able to be activated up to six hours after they are produced. By touching a still live thread to them, they, along with any they touch, can be brought back under my control." She explained.

Mezo did his best to escape, but there were too many. He became tightly wrapped in a cocoon of threads. Kumoko swung the whip around. Mezo was picked up off the ground and flung into the air. Kumoko swung him over her head and slammed him on the ground outside of bounds.

"Mezo Shoji is out of bounds. Kumoko is the winner." The faculty member announced.

Kumoko breathed out a sigh of relief. She wiped some sweat from her brow as she worked to catch her breath. She hopped down off the arena.

"Here, I'll have you out in a bit." She stated as she began to unravel the thread surrounding him.

The thread began to coalesce into a ball in her upper arms.

"Thank you." Mezo expressed. "I say though that thread control technique is impressive. And the way you utilized it was also quite excellent."

Kumoko blushed from the praise.

"T-t-thanks…" She replied as she used her right middle arm to rub the back of her head awkwardly. "It took a while to get to the level I've gotten it at now. I've spent god knows how many hours just studying how the muscular and nervous system works in order to try and replicate it with my threads. Not to mention getting it working again after I sever the connection."

"I see, well I hope you're able to get into the hero course with all the effort you're putting into this." He expressed.

"Thanks, I'll be sure to see you there." She declared.

Mezo had been completely freed from the threads after a little bit and was able to return to his feet.

"There you go." Kumoko expressed with a smile.

"Yeah, thanks again." He returned.

"No problem." Kumoko replied.

The two began to walk off the field. As they did, Kumoko began guiding some thread to her mouth and eating it. Mezo could only stare as she happily munched on the thread that was slowly being pulled from the large ball in her hands to her mouth.

"Y… y-you eat your threads?" He questioned.

"Yep… it helps me recover the energy I used to make it." Kumoko explained.

"I see…" He replied.

Oh god she looks adorable when she does that. He thought to himself.

"By the way, what's up with the mask, if you don't mind me asking?" She asked.

"Huh… oh… I don't mind. I made a little girl cry once because my face was scary. I didn't want to cause others sadness so I started wearing it." He explained.

"Awww you are a gentle giant." She cooed. "I can relate to the scaring people part though, a lot of people have been put off by my appearance."

"Such are the struggles of those like us." He expressed.

Kumoko merely nodded.

Meanwhile…

Jaune stood across from his opponent, Setsuna Tokage. She was fairly short with long dark moss green hair.

"Round two Set one… START!" Mic shouted.

Setsuna's body suddenly broke apart into several pieces, which floated in the air. Jaune activated his quirk and his body glowed golden. The piece of Setsuna began to swirl around him. He noticed she kept her eyes up overhead. He barely managed to dodge one of the pieces that came flying at him before another came from behind and grabbed him. He quickly shook it off while narrowly dodging another one. Jaune continued to dodge as he looked for any sort of opportunity to turn things in his favor. This is troublesome. These pieces are moving around in such away that it's hard to keep track of them. While [Amplify] does improve my mind's ability to process information, my consciousness ability to handle it doesn't. His train of thought was interrupted when he was swept off his feet. He fell backwards right as two hands grabbed him and began to pull him towards the edge of the rink. Before he could try and retaliate several more body parts rammed into him. There's too many to keep track of. Two went under his feet to prevent him from getting a solid footing. He did his best to shake them off. However they continued to relentlessly push and pull him closer to the edge all while preventing him from getting any sort of solid footing. Eventually he was thrown out of bounds.

"The winner is Setsuna Tokage!" The faculty member announced.

"Yes!" She cheered as her body reformed.

"Damn…" Jaune muttered as he stood back up. "Gonna need a way to counter something like that next time."

"Hey nice match out there handsome!" Setsuna called.

Jaune blushed.

"T-t-t-thanks…" he muttered.

Round Two, Bracket Two, Set Two…

Nora confidently stood across from her opponent, Reiko Yanagi. She had pale gray hair that was parted to the left and covered her left eye.

"Round two Set two, START!" Mic shouted.

The two charged one another, however Nora was faster. Once Nora had gotten closer to Reiko, the gray-haired girl moved her hands. Nora felt herself leave the ground. She quickly reoriented herself. She jabbed her hand into the arena floor in a way to keep her from being pulled free by Reiko.

"You are quite the annoying opponent I must say." Reiko expressed.

Reiko kept her quirk, [Poltergeist], active to try and pull Nora loose. Nora held strong however and was easily able to resist Reiko's attempts to pull her from the ground. Nora then jammed her other hand into the ground as far forward as she felt she could. Once it was secured she removed her other hand and repeated the process with it. By doing this repeatedly she began to run with her hands towards Reiko. Said girl's eyes went wide from how shocking her actions were as well as how comical it looked. She began to run away while making sure to keep her quirk active on Nora. For the next several minutes everyone in the stadium not fighting got a good laugh from seeing Reiko being chased by Nora in such a strange manner. Eventually Reiko became exhausted and could no longer maintain her hold on Nora. Said girl seized this opportunity to grab the girl and throw her out of bounds.

"And stay out!" She shouted in annoyance and embarrassment.

"The winner is Nora Valkyrie." The faculty member announced.

Meanwhile…

Karen skipped up into the platform, while narrowly avoiding tripping again, to face her opponent, Juzo Honenuki. He had somewhat short spikey beige hair and his face looked similar to a skull. Alright Karen you can do this. Just remember what Kumoko said about his quirk and stick to your plan. Her face turned red when she remembered her plan.

"Round two Set Two, START!" Mic shouted.

Juzo softened the ground turning it's consistency to that of mud. It travelled across the arena towards her. With a mighty leap, she jumped high into the air. She curled herself into a ball before plummeting towards the ground. Please do what I need you to do, please do what I need you to do. She repeated in her head. Juzo dove into the softened ground. Don't know what she's doing but I'll just meet her down here when she falls in. Karen slammed into the softened ground and created a huge splash. Because of this, Juzo was thrown into the air and out of bounds. HUH?! He mentally questioned.

"Ah… Juzo is… out of bounds… the winner is Karen Mitsudo." The faculty member announced.

"YeeeeeeeEEEESSSSSS!" Karen cheered as she emerged from the softened ground. "It worked!"

She began to celebrate.

"Good lord how heavy is that girl?!" Juzo exclaimed as he rose to his feet.

Karen's celebration ceased. Tears began to form in her eyes.

"It's not my fault… MY QUIRK MAKES ME FAT! WAHHHH!" She cried as a comical amount of tears spilled from her eyes.

Karen's quirk is [Super Dense Body]. Her body tissue is far more dense than the normal human. Her body shape changes very little regardless of how much strength training she does, or how much she eats. Because of her increased muscle density, she is far stronger than she appears. Her increased skin density makes her skin harder to break through. Her increased bone density makes them harder to break. Her increased fat density makes it harder to get cold. It also causes her weight to be very high and be able to eat a lot more food than she needs to.

"W-w-w-whAT?! I-I didn't mean you were fat. I just…" He began.

Suddenly he felt the murderous aura of a protective big sister being projected towards him. He slowly turned to see Kumoko glaring at him, a murderous aura surrounding her. Thank god I don't have to fight her! He mentally exclaimed.

Meanwhile…

Ren looked to his opponent and fellow 1-A classmate, Koji Koda.

"Apologies in advance." Ren expressed.

Koji just nodded.

"Round two Set Two, START!" Mic shouted.

Ren quickly closed the gap between them before Koji could call for any animals. Koji did his best, but Ren's agility, skill, and experience were too much for Koji to overcome and he was quickly knocked out.

"Winner, Lie Ren." The faculty member announced after ten seconds.

Later…

"And with that, round two is over. Before we go to a quick break let's take a look at the set up for the next round." Mic announced.

"While we're on break I want to turn to my fellow commentators for their opinions of those who've made it this far." Mic stated. "Specifically I want to know which of our competitors has caught your eyes."

"For mes, it's da spider girl Kumoko." Splinter questioned. "Da author clearly favors her way too much."

"Not sure what you mean, but she definitely has caught my attention. Regardless of if she wins her upcoming match or not, she's got a spot in the Hero Transfer Course."

"She's a prime example of how far you can get with hard work and what a quirk can become in the right hands. If I remember correctly, the only reason she failed to be able to even take a shot at the hero course was because she didn't have the endurance for one of the parts of the Entrance Exam. She's made up for that here and is showing us an impressive display of skill. I can't say much for Kamakiri given he's Vlad's student, but Shoji is easily one the strongest amongst my class. With both his strength and intelligence on his side, beating him is no small feat." Aizawa explained.

"There's also the other gen-ed student Karen Mitsudo." Mic brought up. "While not as impressive of a rise as Kumoko's, she's still showing some promise."

Especially given what happened at the entrance exam. Mic thought back to how Karen only failed because she tripped and fell too often in the endurance portion of the exam. She ended up tripping and rolling into the metal walls that rose up to block people off. She was fine, the wall wasn't. Not gonna say that on international T.V.

"True, but we'll have to see how she fares against someone like Nora. Yet another powerhouse of 1-A. And before anyone cries favoritism, a lot of 1-B's strong members are already in the finals." Qrow expressed. "Looking at you Monoma."

"WHY ME SPECIFICALLY?!" Could be faintly heard.

"Nora is no slouch and won't be caught off guard by Mitsudo's clumsiness or ah… abilities." Aizawa stated. "We also can't forget Tokage."

"People are often quick to idolize and praise directly powerful quirks, especially when they are flashy. In my personal experience however, quirks like Tokage are ones to look out for, especially when the user is smart with how they use it." Qrow added.

"If I remember correctly she was one of 1-B's recommendation students. The other was Juzo Honenuki who's already been eliminated." Aizawa noted. "She'll be a tough opponent for Kumoko to defeat. I'm genuinely curious to see how she'll overcome this."

"That'll definitely be one of the matches to look out for." Mic noted. "Speaking of matches, what are your guy's predictions for who'll win that one and the match between Mistudo and Nora. I'm betting on Kumoko and Nora.

"I's knows too much from the author to answer." Splinter answered.

"Just going to ignore that. Based on what I've seen, I think Kumoko has a way to pull out a victory over Tokage. The versatility of her spider silk is nothing to scoff at." Qrow noted. "For the other match. I'd say Nora, she's a more experienced fighter so she'll probably have the edge over Mistudo."

"I'd say Tokage, her quirk makes her hard to pin down which is all that Kumoko's got. For the other match I'd also say Nora for similar reasons. Also any natural advantage Mistudo's quirk had against her other opponents will be mute against Nora." Aizawa stated. "However we'll have to see how things play out. Anything can happen after all."

"Right you are my friend." Mic stated. "And we'll get to all those fights, next chapter."

Ruby: Man it's good to be back, about time the writer got off his lazy butt.

Izuku: Hey don't be like that Ruby.

Ruby: But he's not even...

Izuku: AAAanyways... we should get on with next chapter preview.

Ruby: NO SPOILERS!

Izuku: R-r-r-right sorry.

Ruby: Anyways next time Chapter 38: Stand Up!

Izuku: Til next time.
