The wind sifted through the trees, lightly moving the silver hair of a hanyou. He stood perfectly still, staring unseeingly out into the setting sun. The red fire mice coat shifted in the breeze. Tan, muscular arms were folded before him both enveloped in the flowing sleeves of his attire. Golden eyes scanned over the multicoloured clouds which framed the last of the sun. There was a shifting behind him and he went ridged, sniffing cautiously but still without movement. "Inu-Yasha, there you are!" The youkai hunter, Sango, exclaimed as she walked up behind him. The hanyou relaxed slightly and continued to stare silently into the sky. "I've been looking for you…" Her voice trailed off as she noticed his strange behaviour. Stepping forward she looked out into the sunset, deciding to stand silently with him should he choose to tell her what he was thinking.
Inu-Yasha said, and did, nothing for a long time and then silently turned and began to run to the well. Sango frowned slightly before running after him, ebony hair bouncing slightly in its ponytail. "Hey, Inu, wait up! What's wrong?" Inu-Yasha stopped and waited for her but did not turn around or respond. Once she reached his side, panting and out of breath, he began to walk. Shaking her head Sango asked again, "Why are you acting so strangely?" Still not looking at her he spoke emotionlessly, his face impassive, "Don't you ever give up?" Sango fell silent and Inu-Yasha returned to thinking until they reached the well.
"Kagome!" Sango called out, running toward the girl from the future with a huge smile on her face. "Welcome back!" Kneeling she gave the girl a hug and then looked behind her to see if she was still being followed. Sure enough, Inu-Yasha stood behind her in silence, his arms crossed inside his fire mice coat, his face unresponsive. He said nothing, but his amber eyes spoke volumes as the bore into Kagome's.
"Hi Inu-Yasha!" Kagome smiled at him and raised one hand to wave after greeting Sango with a warm hug in return. Inu-Yasha grunted in response and turned away, beginning to walk to the place designated by Sango, Miroku, and himself earlier as where they would spend the night. Glancing at Kagome for a moment Sango stood and began to follow, talking to Kagome as they walked. "So…how was everyone back in your world?" "Everyone's fine." Kagome mumbled, her eyes on the ground as she dragged her feet behind the hanyou. Noticing Sango staring at her she raised her head and painted a quick smile, keeping her eyes from that of her friend's. Shaking her head Sango whispered "You can't let him get to you so much before stepping up to the half-demon and watching him for a moment before speaking. "You should really open up to Kagome more. You keep a lot of secrets from her and it makes her worried…" Inu-Yasha glanced reproachfully at the demon slayer then, with a 'hmph' he turned his head the opposite direction.
A slight frown creased the hanyou's forehead and his nose twitched. Closing his eyes he sniffed deeper, his body frozen. "What is it Inu-Yasha?" Sango asked quietly, readying her Hiraikotsu. Before he could respond, however, Inu-Yasha leapt backward, hastily grabbing Kagome by the waist and lifting her into a tree on the second bound. Then, jumping back to the ground, he steadily drew his Tetsusaiga against the creature that stood menacingly before him.
