Rude Awakening

P.O.V Change: Yasmina

"Hey Mae! I need your help." Kenji calls out to Mae who is studying the white cube. "Yes?" She replies. "Does a full house beat a four of a kind?" Kenji asks hopefully. We are all playing poker and Kenji is losing his mind, he has no poker face when it comes to this, plus the fact he can't hide his cards. "No, Kenji. Not now not ever." Mae says tiredly. Kenji has been asking questions for ages. Kenji throws his cards onto the table in a fit. Darius slams his cards down, revealing 4 king's. He looks up and smiles smugly. Kenji just narrows his eyes. "Sorry to interrupt the fun, but if anyone wants to go out and round up some chestnuts from the forest. I can make a mean soup." Mae asks which I nod. "I'll go, getting tired of beating these guys." I say smugly as I place down my four aces winning the game. "Damn. Girls on fire." Brooklynn says as I see Ryan just smile as he places down his cards. "Got nothing." He says. I make my way out of the cave to see the sunlight come through. It's really beautiful. "What a lovely sight." I hear behind me and see Ryan standing there.

"Yeah it is." I reply to him with a smile. "Thought I come and help." He says as he walks up to me. "Thank you." I thank as he reaches for my hand, I take it as we stroll and find the chestnuts that Mae was looking for. I notice something in the bush. "Hello? How did you get here?" I say as I kneel down and pick up my drawing book. I go through the pages before stopping on a picture of my mum. I gaze lovingly. "I miss you, mum." I say as I gently caress the drawing. "You're never going to see her again." I hear Ryan say but he would never say that. "Why would yo-." I gasp in terror as I see Ryans appearance. The right side of his face had been ripped off exposing the skull and remaining muscles. His chest was torn open and ripped like something was eating him. The skin I could see was pale and bloodied. "R-Ryan?" I ask with terror. "You're never leaving...not alive." He says with no emotion. I hear a growl and see the Indominus walk around a tree and stare menacingly at me. I hear other roars and notice Allison and Toro crowding around me. I gasp and breath heavy, I see no way to get away. I scream in fear as the Scorpios climbs down a tree and crawls up to me. I feel cold scales and hot breath on my back. The Indominus is growling in my face. Ryan is standing next to me. "You'll die here and nobody is going to remember you...such a shame." He says as I block my ears with my hands. "No, no, no, no. Leave me alone!"

I walk up with a gasp as the tablet falls from the table. I look around, everyone is sleeping, I hear Ryan snort next to me. "Hmm, soft." He says tiredly as he leans into my back. I smile at him and lean carefully against the cabinet. "You alright, love?" Mae asks as I quickly shake off the nightmare. "Yeah, yeah. I'm fine." I say but Mae turns to me, not believing what I said. "I only ask because you woke up with a gasp, your breathing heavily and knocked my tablet to the ground." She says which I blush in embarrassment. "Oh, uhh really sorry about that." I say as I pick up the tablet and hand it back to her. "I really appreciate you looking out for the BRADs but you need to get some rest like your friends." Mae says as she gestures to everyone else. "Huh?" I hear Ryan say as he starts twitching. "Fuck off Allison." He whisperingly says as he clenches his fist. "You won't take her." He says before he fixes himself and doses off. I smile sadly at him. Ryan still suffers nightmares but he can handle it, I don't want him to worry about my own. "He cares about you." Mae says as she goes back to her research. "I know and that what worries me. He would do anything to keep me safe...even risk his own life. He's done it before, for all of us. I don't want him to worry." I say as Mae looks at me with sympathy. "I don't know Ryan like you but I can see that he cares about the safety of the people he cares about. You have a special bond with him. One made in hardship, a bond like that is very special. You don't want to worry but he is going to do what he can to protect you guys." She says as I smile sadly. Ryan would protect us even if we told him not too. He would still so it, it's the kind of person that he is. It what made me recognise that my feelings for him were more than the physical. He cared for us physically and helped us mentally.

"Hand me that petri dish, please?" Mae says as I hand the dish with the cube to her. She takes a small piece of it and drops it in a vial of liquid. She shakes the vial as the liquid goes a sickly green. "Oh my. This is not good. Not good at all." Mae says, horrified at her discovery. "Wake the others." Mae orders as I nudge Ryan. "Ryan, wake up." I say which Ryan just ignores. "It's the voice of an angel." He says which I blush at. I never noticed that he talks in his sleep. "Ryan, wake up!" I shout out which causes Ryan to fall to the ground in fright. "What the fuck is wrong with you?" He says as he looks up at me. "Come on, Mae found something." I say which Ryan tenses as he stands. I notice that Mae has woken the others up as well.

"Ok, after careful analysis of the nutriment samples, I discovered an alarmingly high level of receptor antagonists as well as adrenal addictives. These must be the cause of the elevated combative behaviour of the animals who ingested them." Mae says which goes over some of our heads, only Ryan seems to understand what Mae said. "Dude, what did she say?" Kenji asks which makes Mae sigh in exasperation. "The Rexes food are being tampered with. Their food is dosed with drugs to make them more aggressive and unable to feel pain. Sabotagers back on Nublar would drug predators for the same purpose. The inability to feel pain, is something that I've not heard of though." Ryan says, simplifying Mae's description. "Ryan's right. The Rexes are being drugged to be more aggressive and unable to feel pain. For what reason...I don't know." Mae says which makes all of us worried and angry. "Mantah is the worst!" Sammy says out of the blue and I nod my head in agreement. They suck. "Now more than ever, is it important to get you kids off this island." Mae says as she looks at me, I smile gratefully as I cross my arms.

"No problem here." Kenji says as he coughs. Brooklynn looks at him with a small show of disgust. "You...feeling ok?" She asks which Kenji just shakes off. "Of course. Just had something caught in my throat." That is a bull-face lie. "Great. Trying to get off another island." Brooklynn states sarcastically. "Any ideas?" Ryan asks which no one really gives. How we're we supposed to get off. We have not boat, we don't know the island or its inhabitants. "The supply plane!" Mae shouts as we all perk up. "It comes every two weeks. But the next one isn't due for another 10 days." Mae says. No, no, no. "We can't wait that long." I say quickly. I notice Ryans soft gaze. He knows something is up. I want to tell him, he would understand, but I don't want to worry him any more than he already is. "Is there a way we can get the supply plane to come sooner?" Brooklynn asks to Mae who starts to ponder. "Well, uh, I suppose they would send the plane if there was an emergency." Mae replies.

"If we stop the dinos from eating that messed up food. Mantah Corp would take notice, right?" Sammy says which makes sense. "Two birds, one stone. We can stop the Rexes from eating the food and get the supply plane to come early!" Darius suggests. "It's a sound plan but are we really going to hop onto a plane and hope that no one from Mantah Corp notices us?" Ryan asks sarcastically. I mean, he does have a point. "Yeah." Darius says casually which makes Ryan tolls his eyes. "I don't have a better idea, so supply plane it is." He says in defeat. "All we need is solid, detailed plan." Mae starts pacing, muttering to herself. We all look amongst ourselves in amusement. "Hey, Mae. I have a plan that could work. Here's how it's gonna go done." Darius says.

"First, we wait until the Rexes are asleep. Mae, Ben and Yaz will keep a lookout and make sure that they stay that way. The minute they walk up, you gu-." I interrupt Darius. "Sorry, can I not be on Dino duty?" I ask. I take a step back as they all look at me. "But you're the fastest." Ben says which gets a playful nudge from Ryan. I smile on the inside at his playful insult. "I know, like a lot." I say as subtly return Ryans insult which he shakes his head ruefully. "It's just that...I haven't been getting a lot of sleep and I could use...a break." I say which gets me a pity look from Mae and a sympathy look from Ryan. "If you need it then we won't hassle you." Ryan says which I smile gratefully to him. "No problem. I'll be Team Dino." Kenji says as he coughs again. "Yeah, I don't fucking think so. You have a cough that is getting on MY nerves. I won't have you coughing and waking up a Rex. You can help Sammy and Brooklynn with getting the tampered food." Ryan says as he pulls on Kenji's ear. "Ok, ok. Just let go of my ear." Kenji says as Ryan let's go.

"Ok. With Ryan with Ben and Mae. Sammy, Brooklynn and Kenji getting rid of the food. Me and Yaz will head over to platform and disable it." Darius says and I'm alright with that.

P.O.V Change: Ryan

Myself, Mae and Ben were situated on an observation platform. We were watching the Rexes but my attention was away. Yaz has been acting differing lately. Bays under her eyes are evident, especially this morning. She is nervous and jumpy. I recognise the common signs of PTSD. Sleepiness, nervousness, denial. They are prevalent with Yaz and it's scaring me. I don't want to push her and make her become defensive and tell me that everything is fine when I know that it's not. And I don't want to look like I don't care by not asking. Yaz is a strong and caring woman, but the tolls on the mind are beginning to form and weigh her down. We are supposed to home, in the arms of our families, Yaz has been hoping for that for a long time and now we are stuck and an island that we have no business being on, helping a scientist care for her dinosaurs. Mae needs our help but how much of ourselves do we have to give before we earn the right to be home? How long before we all break under the pressure. I might be able to handle the stress longer than the others but even still, my mind can only take so much trauma, near death experiences and pain. We don't deserve this, no one does.

"They are in a light but restful sleep. We just have to extra quiet." Mae whispers which breaks me from my train of thought. "No shit." I whisper to her which makes her look at me unamused. I watch the Rexes and notice that their wounds haven't been treated. "Mae...why aren't the Rexes been treated?" I whisper which makes her notices the wounds as well. "That's odd, they should have received medical attention by now." She says as she leans back, the wood underneath us creaks very, very, loudly. "Shh." Ben says but it's too late. The tablet starts beeping and the growl of Big Eatie, the mother Rex, waking up. Big Eatie nudges Little Eatie but the younger Rex is too weak to even stand. "Let me out in a request for a Med BRAD to come." Mae says but I notice that Big Eatie is walking away. "We have slightly bigger problems." I say, almost panicking, Big Eatie is heading to the feeder. Yaz and Darius.

P.O.V Change: Yasmina

I was looking in the bushes when Darius calls out to me. "Yaz, over here!" I turn and see Darius moving foliage out of the way and and there is a powerbox built into the tree. I see some rocks and pick up two. Darius, use this." I say as I chuck him one. He catches it as he bashes the box, I follow one after him. We see sparking from the box and the feeder. I hit the box one more time before throwing the rock away. Darius looks at me weirdly. Just for good measure." I say which he chuckles to. "We gotta go!" I hear Ryan say as he, Mae and Ben come down the ravine and running towards us. I feeling thudding and a growl of a Tyrannosaur. I freeze up in terror and watch the trees in front of me. The growling gets closer, every neuron in my body is screaming to my brain to run but I can't. I can't, I can't. I hit my leg twice, trying to force myself but I can't...move. I feel tears fall, this is the end. I almost feel the Rexes hot breath on me. "Yaz! Come on!" I feel Ryan grab me by my shoulder and turn me around, I break from my episode and start running, Ryan trails alongside and the Tyrannosaur breaks through the trees.

We hide behind a tree as Ryan looks to see the Rex at the feeder. I feel my lungs constricting. I can't breathe. "Yaz. Yaz, look at me." I hear Ryan say and I focus and see him in front of me. I somehow ended up on the ground covering my ears. "We have to go." He says as he lifts me up and helps me run to catch up with the others, far away from the Rex. I breathe heavily as I lean against the tree. "It worked!" Mae whispers as the tablet beeps. "The plane will be arriving in three hours with new food and supplies. You lot are almost home!" Mae says happily. Everyone begins cheering, I sigh in relief as I sit down against the tree. I notice Ryan come up to me and sits next to me. He softly pulls me into a hug which I reporicate happily. I ping of noise and green light alerts me and makes Ryan go tense.

We all turn and see a BRAD looking at us, it's white eyes go an evil red. "Unauthorised life forms detected." It says menacingly as its mouth opens, revealing it's shocker. "Stop! Stand down!" Mae says as she stands in front of us, Ryan pulls me up and away from the robots gaze. "Command override due to unauthorised life forms." The machine says as it walks past Mae who turns to offline the machine from her tablet. "That doesn't sound good." Kenji points out as we beginning backing up. "Run. All of you, run!" Mae shouts as we bolt into the forest. I hear the clanking of the machines feet as we avoid it's deadly shocker. A bolt goes over my head, into the bark of a tree, burning a near clean hole through the trunk. "Keep left. The airlock to the supply plane is just up ahead!" Mae shouts to us as we see the glimmer of the airlock. However, the door opens and two more BRADs come through. We turn away from the other two as the group up together. "There's another airlock not far from here!" Mae shouts as I run up beside her. "Look out!" Ryan says as he pulls Mae out the way of a shocker from a BRAD, the shock misses and burns through a tree.

"Split up!" Darius shouts as we spilt. The BRADs seem to having an issue with trying to follow someone. They can't decide who to follow. "There's the airlock!" Mae shouts we are gather up and enter the airlock. Mae quickly shuts it behind us. We all breath a sigh of relief. That was too close. I really thinking mechanism. "There. That should hold them." Mae says but the lock goes green again and the door opens revealing the BRADs. "Or not." We gasp in terror as we run again. "I'm really starting to hate these guys." Mae says which Kenji replies sarcastically. "Beginning?" We turn a corner and I duck down from a shocker that hits the pipeline above me, releasing steam into the corridor. We turn another corner and find another door. We turn around and see the menace red eyes peering through the steam as they slowly walk up to us. I see Ryan stand in front with his axe out. My breathing gets really heavy and my hand starts twitching. My legs are shaking and I sit down against the door. "Just go away." I whisper to myself as I shield my eyes. I hear the door open but I don t acknowledge it in any form. "Go away." I whisper as I fell someone lift me up and carry me through.

I uncover my eyes to see Ryan holding me as we gazes down at me with worry. I notice his unspoken question and I nod in response. He puts me down as we notice Brooklynn diving through the airlock as it closes. We all look out to the biome. This is vastly different compared to ones we been in. The grass is a brownish orange with scattered trees with little to no leaves. The obvious thing that we notices was the snow. "A tundra." Ryan whispers as it starts to snow. It's freezing in here. Piles of snow has been built up over the grass and...it's too fucking cold. "I though you said this was the way to the plane." I say as I walk up to Mae. "It is. We just had to take a little detour. The plane is just on the other side of this biome, it's inhabited par for us of course. We'll be safe." She says reassuringly to me.

"And here I thought that Nublar was the trippest place I'd ever see." Darius says as he shivers. "I am not dressed for this." Ben says miserably. Out of everyone he has the least amount of clothing so he is feeling every piece of snow that falls. I do notice that Sammy is smiling happily. I smile on the inside, first timer here. "None of us are. And this is not helping me with my cold." Kenji says as he sneezes. "Oh I knew it. You are getting sick." Brooklynn says as she walks away from Kenji. "I mean, our cold. It's very cold out here, we are feeling it." He tries to defend himself but it's already too late .

"Ah who cares. I've never even seen snow before. It's so pretty." Sammy says as a piece of snow falls on her tongue. "You do know that is Mantah Corp snow, right?" I say to her as her eyes widen in disgust as she spits the snow out. "Hey, Mae?" Ryan calls out as he kneels down a short distance away. "Yes?" Mar answers as we walk over to him. "You said that this biome is inhabited, yes?" He asks as we get closer. "Yes, that's correct." Mae replies. "Than what made this?" Ryan says as we arrive at him. We are look down and see a distinct footprint in the snow that trails off into the woodland in the distance. The footprint has three toes with claws. Only carnivores have that. Great, more danger. "That can't be right. The inhabitants aren't supposed to be here for another month." Mae says worried. "We have to get to the plane before whatever made these tracks find us." Darius says which I agree with. "There are snowmobiles that will get us there, so we don't have to walk." Mae says as she points out the two vehicles not far from us.

We were in the snowmobiles. Kenji, Brooklynn, Ben and Sammy agree to go in one while myself, Ryan, Darius and Mae would go in the other one. I look at the tablet and see that we just have over an hour and a half until the plane gets here. I lean back on the seat and finally let myself relax. "Here, your going to need this." Ryan says to me as he hands me a blanket. "Thank you." I say gratefully as he smiles at me. I wrap myself in the blanket and it's so...warm. "So Yaz, who taught you how to play poker like that?" Darius asks me. "My mom. It was our favourite thing to do on rainy days." I say as I reminiscent of my memories with Mom. I miss those times. "Well, you'll be seeing her real soon." Mae says to me which I smile at. "Real soon." I hear Ryan say darkly as I look up and see him with wounds and half a face, he looks like the Ryan from my nightmare. "Ahh." I yell in terror, I notice that Darius and Mae are gone. "Very soon." He says as he looks out the window. I hear a roar and look forward to see the Mosasaurus jumping at me. "Ahhhhhhh!"

I wake up with a gasp. I grip the seat's armrests as I look out and see nothing but snow, grass and scattered trees. "Yaz." Ryan says to me softly as I turn really sharply and see him, he's normal and looking at me really worried. "What's wrong, love?" Mae asks me. I notice Darius is looking out of the back window, not paying attention. "I, I...felt a little car sick. Weird, huh?" I say, trying to throw them off but both Mae and Ryan look like they see through my lie. Of course they do, I'm not a very good liar. I hear something rumbling as Ryan goes tense. "Kill the engine." He says as Mae stops. I look out and see the other vehicle stop as well. The rumbling gets closer and I tense up, Dearing for the worst. I feel a comforting hand on my shoulder. "Relax...look." I look up to see Ryan smiling as he points to the corner of the window. I follow and see some shapes coming through the snow. One of the shapes comes into view, it looks like a really big elephant with some really heavy fur. It's tusks are huge and terrifying but has a sense of protection rather than danger. "Mammoths." Darius whispers exictedly. I look over to the other vehicle and I see that the others are in awe of what we are seeing.

"The mammoths weren't suppose to be here until next month. What is going on?" Mae says. "Just be in the moment for a minute, Mae. We'll worry about it later." Ryan says as he watches happily as the herd comes through and passes us by. I catch a glimpse of a baby one. Aww, it's cute. I hear a great trumpet as the last mammoth comes into view. It's one is bigger than the rest, it's tusks are wide but curve inward. It's dark red and brown fur contrasting greatly against the white snow. It turns its head towards us as it watches us. It trumpets before continuing on. "That's King Richard. His the only male of the group. He's also the leader." Mae says as I look at her weirdly. "King Richard?" I ask which Mae simply shrugs.

Mae was about to start the snowmobile when a loud roar interrupts her. This one didn't sound like a mammoth. I hear thudding. A dinosaur comes out of the trees where the mammoths came. This one is unlike any I have ever seen. Besides the short, long crest that goes along its snout, the animal is covered in feathers. "What is that thing?" I ask as I try to make myself as small as possible, pulling my feet up onto the chair. "A Yutyrannus." Ryan says. "Mae...go, go, go!" He says quickly as King Richard turns around and trumpets in defiance. The carnivore roars back in challenge and stalks around the massive mammoth. King Richard swings his head, the tusks swaying with the motion, the Yutyrannus, seeing the danger, moves back. Mae turns the engine on and moves to go around the combating animals, but the slippery terrain is making it hard to control. The carnivore charges as King Richard swings his tusks but the dino moves out of the way and clamps down on the ancient elephants leg. The tusks come swinging back and barrel into the predator, knocking it onto its side. "Mae, hurry up." Ryan says. "I'm trying!" Mae says as she pulls the vehicle back under control.

The other is trailing behind us as the predator tries again, King Richard swings again but this time, the carnivore dodges but moves to be side on the mammoth as it's clamps it's jaws into the lower shoulder. The Yutyrannus's foot reaches up to get leverage as the predator pills a large chunk out of the mammoth. A cry of pain, followed by a trumpet of rage, comes from King Richard as he swings his tusks under the underbelly of the predator before pushing up on his hind legs, throwing the carnivore over onto his back, hard. We watch as we drive away as the Yutyrannus gets up and whimpers in pain. King Richard trumpets in victory as the carnivore walks away I npain with its head hung low in defeat.

"That was scary but so...awesome!" Darius shouts out as we laugh on relief. "That was too close." I say as I relax back on the chair. We continue on our way, Mae says that we are not far from the airlock. I notice Darius narrowing his eyes at something in the distance. What now? "What is that?" He says as all look out and focus. There is a large shape in the distance. "Pierce?" Mae says which gets me confused. Wow is Pierce? The shape comes into focus and it's a dinosaur. Similar to a Stegosaurus for the most part but the difference being the enormous spikes that go from halfway down the back to the tail. Oh, and the spikes coming out of its shoulders. Mae kills the engine and hops out of the vehicle. "Pierce, what are you doing out here?" I hear her say as she walks up to the dinosaur.

"Uh, that is a giant, pointing dinosaur that is standing right in front of us, right?" I ask with hestiation. Is this a dream or real life...I'm not even sure at this point. "It's ok. It's a Kentrosuarus. They're herbivores, the spikes are mainly for defense." Darius says to me. I feel a hand on my shoulder and look up to see Ryan. "It's alright. You're not dreaming." He says softly to me which I gratefully nod in thanks. We see Pierce collapse down onto the ground. We bolt out of the vehicle and make our way to Mae who is cradling Pierce's head. I trail behind the group as the others gather around Mae, saying that Pierce has gone into hypothermic shock. "What about the supply plane. It'll be here in under an hour." I ask. While I hate having to leave Pierce in this state, I want to go home. It's selfish but I can't help it. "Yaz is right. You guys should go. I'll...figure something out." Mae says sadly as Pierce moans in pain and discomfort. "You can't move a 4,000 pound dinosaur by yourself." Darius says, Ryan interjects after him. "How about some of others go ahead and stall the plane while the rest try and help Pierce." He offers which Darius puts down...hard. "No, we need two gliders to move him. If we are going to save him, we are have to help." I look between the group and see that mostly everyone is, reluctantly, on board besides Ryan. He doesn't look happy. "Fine but if we don't get to the plane in time, on your head be it." He says as he points to Darius who nods. We hear a roar coming from the distance. "That Yutyrannus could still be hungry, we need to move Pierce before it finds out that he's here." Ryan says as he walks back to the gliders.

"I'm not going to let Mantah Corp hurt one more creature." Sammy says defiantly as she stands next to Darius. "We might be on a different island, trapped in a tundra biome, freezing our butts off, with a feathered carnivore on our tail but we are still Camp Cretaceous." Brooklynn says as she stands next to Darius. Everyone is now looking at me. I look between them, Mae, Pierce and looking back to Ryan who is setting up the sled. "We got you, Doc." I say to Mae who smiles gratefully to me.

Ryan had set up the sled with a scowl on his face. He is really mad, frighteningly so. Sammy and Ben had tied the cable to the sled while Darius and Mae helped Pierce get on. Darius entered the glider, followed by Ryan. Mae also entered and started the engine. We are moving until we feel a tug, the move slowingly as the gliders get used to the weight of Pierce. Soon enough, we're on our way. "How is he?" Mae asks which Ryan answers. "I don't think he likes travelling like this but he's hanging in there." He says as he sits back down. I look down at the tablet as it beeps. "The supply plane is here!" I say happily until we feel a bang and the engine goes dead. We see the electrics in the vehicle are going haywire. Another bang goes off and I look out to the side mirror to see. "A BRAD." I say which causes Mae to bang her fist against the glider which, by som miracle, starts the engine and Mae steps on it.

The BRAD still chases after us. As it gets closer, Mae swerves into it, trying to knock it away but the robot pulls back behind us. "The airlock is straight ahead!" Mae shouts over the telecom to the other glider. We go further until we start sliding. "We're on a frozen lake." Ryan says from the back as Mae tries to straighten the glider. I see on the side mirror as the BRAD fires a shocker into our glider, disabling the engine and electrics again. We start sliding across the ice as Pierce moans in discomfort. I look over the side and see that the ice is not as strong as we hoped. "The ice is cracking!" I scream out as I large piece of the lake cracks, we just make it over the cracks before they get too big. I see in the side mirror that the BRAD is still following after us before it moves out of frame. "I can't see it!" I say as myself, Darius and Ryan look out of the back window.

The BRAD pops up and scares the shit out of us. Shooting three shockers into h glass. The window starts to crack but doesn't break. The BRAD moves as I pull my feet up. The BRAD shows itself out of my window as it stares at me. "Unauthorised life forms." It says as it charges up the shocker. I whimper in fear as the charging gets louder. I close my eyes and kick open the door, sending the robot into the ice and breaking through it. Sending down under the water.

I breath a sigh of relief and relax back against the seat. I...I did it. I look over and see Mae smiling proud and Ryan giving me a thumbs up. I notice that Darius is watching Pierce. I'm hurt by that. Mae and the others continue to make our way to the airlock.

Mae closes the door behind us before going to check on Pierce. He seems to be coming too, his colouration is coming back to normal, I think? "He'll be fine once he warms up. Now, get out of here. You have a plane to catch." Mar says as we all run for the door at the end of the corridor. The door opens, revealing a sunrise and lush foliage. "We'll miss you, Dr. Mae." Darius says gratefully which Mae returns a smile. "Be safe out there." "Good luck!" "You're the best." "Goodbye, Mae." "Thanks for your help." Darius, Sammy, Kenji, Brooklynn and Ben say respectively. Ryan walks up to her an nods a thanks which Mae returns. As Ryan runs off, Mae stops me. "Darling, I don't know what's troubling you. But I do know that your friends can help...if you talk to them. Especially Ryan." Mae says softly to me. I ponder what she's telling me and nod, she smiles as I trail after the others.

I catch up to Ryan in foliage as we make our way through. I hear the cheering of the others in front as we break through the shrubbery to arrive at a shear cliff. I hear the engine of plane and watch as it flies right past us. We all scream and shout, waving our hands about to get its attention but it's too far gone. We all watch in horror as it leaves. "Fuck!" I hear Ryan say as he punches a tree. "Dang it!" Kenji says as he turns away. I stare in horror before shaking my head. "This sucks." I collapse down to the ground, everything is too much for me, I start crying, we are never getting home.

"Look guys, I know it's not the outcome that we wanted but we did the right thing. Right?" Darius says as I stare at him with a little bit of hate. I want to go home, don't you understand that. "Darius..." Ben says but he doesn't finish as Darius already knows what he has done. "Let's go check on Mae." Ben says as both of them walk back up. I look up and see Ryan leaning his forehead on a tree, Darius begins to walk up to him but before he can say anything. "Keep walking before I throw you off the cliff." Ryan says with more hate than my stare. Darius goes wide eyed and walks away.

"Yaz, are you ok?" Sammy asks me as she kneels down beside me. I ponder about what to say. Mae is right, only if I talk. "No, Sammy. I'm not alright. I keep having nightmares." I say as I bring my legs close to my chest. I see out of the corner of my Ryan sitting down beside me, looking at me with a knowing look and sympathy. "I thought that I would be ok when we got off Nublar. But here we are, still being hunted. By robots now, as if dinosaurs weren't enough!" I say as my voice begins to raise. I just letting out all of my inner turmoil. "Even if I do get home someday...I'm afraid that I'll never be normal again." I say as tears well in my eyes. Ryan moves closer to me as he wraps his arm around my shoulders.

"You're not alone. I've been having nightmares too. Once you stare down a Dimorphodon, it never leaves you. It literally has 'die' right there in the name." Brooklynn says as she tells me her nightmares. I feel slightly better knowing that I'm not alone. "Mine are usually about fire-breathing compys who can also read your mind." Sammy says dramatically which I smile at. "My worst one is sitting in the middle seat of a plane and sharing the armrest with a Scorpios Rex." Kenji says which makes him shiver thinking about it. "I still get nightmares about Allison, I've learnt how to cope but I don't want that for you." Ryan says softly to me, he still suffers but he wants me to not be like him and just accept it, he wants me to move past it.

"I get that saving Pierce was the right thing to do, but stopping and helping dinosaurs cost us home...again!" I scream out as all of my tears come out. "I'm just tired! And I miss my mom." I say as I lean into Ryan's chest as he wraps his arms and me. "We'll get home, Yaz. I promise." Ryan says to me. I believe him with every fibre of my being. He has never let us down before and I'm not going to question his word. I lean in closer, feeling more comfortable. Ryan leans down and kisses the top of head, comforting me greatly. I smile, first real happy smile in a while. I don't know what I could do without him.
