The Daily Lives of the Owl Familia:
Soul Stone Search: P1
Summary: Luz set out on an epic quest when she learns some terrible news about her girlfriend.
Timeline: Two weeks and a half after the Odalia incident.
"Well, Healer Oldstone?" Lilith asked nervously. "Is Amity going to be in any danger?"
The odd healer shook his head as she looked over the results of her diagnosis spell. "You don't have to worry, Amity's life isn't in danger."
Lilith and Luz sighed with relief, and the human offered her girlfriend a smile. Amity was in the process of returning the smile when Willia's voice caught everyone's attention.
"However, I had found something a little worrying."
The good mood was instantly lost, and everyone in the Owl house gave her their attention. Willia took a moment to look over her test on the paper one more time.
"I will like to go on record saying that Amity's life isn't danger now or ever," the odd healer repeated, and the entire Owl Familia slowly nodded. "However, there's a residue on the wrist that curse once rested."
The odd healer paused to let the Familia process everything, not that it wasn't needed.
"Willia," Lilith said slowly, "You told us this already, so why go over this again?"
Willia sighed and set the paper she was holding on the table. "I was praying that due to Amity's state when I first check her, something might change. I was wrong, however."
The odd healer looked at the witchling with a sympathetic smile.
"Amity, can you try to do a spell with your right hand?"
The Abomination witch nodded and held out her hand. She began to draw a circle, and immediately gritted her teeth as pain flooded her wrist. Amity was struggling to complete the circle as she was nearly groaning in pain.
"That's enough, Amity," Willia commanded softly.
Amity instantly stopped her spell and found herself panting from the effort. Instantly, Lilith and Luz were on her, comforting Amity. Eda stood off to the side, taking in everything and her eyes near leaving her kid's back.
"Amity, I'm sorry," Willia said apologetically, a minute had passed.
"It's okay," Amity replied kindly. "Would like me to try the other hand now?"
With a sad smile, Willia nodded.
"Amity, no," Luz moaned worryingly.
The witch offered her girlfriend a smile and then looked at her left hand. With a quick breath, she brought up her hand. She braced herself and began to make her spell. Because her left hand wasn't her main hand, the spell was completed but the circle was a bit on the messy side.
Still, she grinned when she summoned some abomination goo. Amity looked at the healer for her next move.
"Good," Willia complemented kindly. "How do you feel, dear?"
"It was a little painful," Amity replied, making her goo into a ball and throwing it in the air, "But no way near the pain from before.
Willia nodded and made a mental note of this. Eda, who has been quiet this entire time, looked at her family's healer with a stern expression.
"Give it to us straight, Willia," Eda said, and everyone knew she was serious when she uses someone's name. "Just how bad are things with Amity."
Willia sighed and took a seat on the couch. "I believe the humans call this ailment chronic pains. The pain will always be there and will flare up from time to time, especially if she uses her magic with her right hand."
The tension became thick in the air as each member of the Familia thought this over.
"So, there's nothing we can do?" Luz asked after a near minute of silence.
Willia offered the human witch a warm smile. "I never said that, young one. It's like I told you before, we Oldstones are known for thinking outside the covens."
Luz returned the smile half-heartedly, and then gasp as a thought popped into her head. Her eyes were sparkling as she looked at her witch aunt.
"What's about the pain-sharing spell?" she asked hopefully.
Lilith shook her head and looked at Luz with a sympathetic smile. "I'm afraid that spell isn't an opinion here, Sweet Flea."
Luz's face fell, and Lilith felt like kicking herself for making her niece sad, but she couldn't sugarcoat things with this.
"Why not?" the human asked, barely keeping her anger contained.
"Luz, that spell operates around the idea of sharing only physical pain," Lilith clarified, "And before you ask, the only reason I was able to use that spell with my sister was that the curse has a physical trait the spell could latch onto."
"IT'S NOT FAIR!" Luz suddenly screamed.
"Luz," Amity muttered and moved to comfort her distressed girlfriend. "It's okay, we will figure something out.
Luz snapped her head in Amity's direction, and the young witch watched as anger drained from her face and tears became to flow.
"It's not fair," Luz muttered sadly. "You did nothing, so why are you being punished? Why do good people get hurt when they have done nothing?!"
Luz suddenly turned off her heel and ran out of the house before anyone could stop her. It was clear to everyone who knew Luz that she was reliving more than the Odalia incident.
"Luz!" Amity said after she recovered.
She was about to go chasing after her girlfriend, but Lilith stopped her by putting a hand on her daughter's shoulder.
"It's best to get my niece some space, dear," the ex-coven head said reluctantly.
"Lily, have you meant my kid?" Eda asked sarcastically.
Lilith gave her sister a small glare and then sighed. "Yes, I realized the folly of my words when I spoke them."
"So, we're following Luz and helping her when she gets into trouble?" Amity asked, and her family nodded.
"Mind if I accompany you?" Willia asked hopefully. "I want to witness the fabled "Clawthorne paradox" first hand. And are we taking bets?"
The Owl Familia glared at the odd healer. While Willia had joked to try and lighten the mood, the Familia found it in poor taste. So, wordless, Lilith and Eda exchanged staffs and proceeded to give their family healer a Bonk Heard Around the Demon Realm.

Originally, these shorts were going to follow the series release order, but a spirited review made me decide to change things up a bit. While I will still be releasing them following the chronological order, I will now be peppering the main plotline of my Daily Lives story every two-to-four chapters. Look forward to it!
