The Daily Lives of The Owl Familia:
Bump's Reflection

Summary: How did Principal Bump Learn about Amity's plight and knew when the Witch's Duel took place?

Timeline: Two hours after the duel between Lilith and Odalia.

"I'm going to give everyone who saw the duel some extra time off," Principal Bump mused softly to himself, sighing off a couple of papers on his desk. "Titan knows they need it."

With a light sigh, the principal of Hexside leaned back into his chair. It may be the weekend, but the quicker this task was taken care of, the better. He knew that Lilith and her family were probably cooking something up to make Amity's remaining "knock-down" time easier. And knowing Luz, she would somehow involve her friends.

He smiled as he thought about the family that Amity now was a part of. Though the Clawthornes were the most chaotic family in the Isles, there was something about them that always change things for the better.

"I was right to guide Lilith Clawthorne to you, Amity," Bump said softly. "I had a feeling she would save you, especially from that woman."

Bump scowled bitterly as the memories of Odalia Blight…no she was no longer part of that family, came to the forefront of his mind.

Something about Odalia Golddagger changed when she failed her Emperor's Coven's tryouts. She went from a conceited girl to a full-blown mean child. She would lash out at anyone who looked at her in the wrong way.

Odalia had nearly punched Raine Whispers when they had made an offhanded comment about Eda probably being good at Oracle magic. Thankfully that event happened shortly before Odalia graduated. So no one suffered under her for long.

It often made Bump wonder why Faust didn't kick Odalia out for all she had done. Then again, Faust was a few years away from retiring and the talk with Terra Snapdragon had left the former principal a little uneasy.

After Odalia had left, Bump put her out of his mind and focused on his pending promotion. He was a little surprised when he learned that Alador and Oalia were to wed, but he didn't put much thought into it. Even when the twin began to go to Hexside, Bump still didn't think much about the woman.

Everything changed, however, when Amity began to attend. Immediately, Odalia was on him demanding that her child prodigy get special treatment and give Amity work well beyond her current skills.

Principal Bump was part of the Abomination Coven, so he knew full well the dangers behind that type of magic. So, for once, he put his foot down and refused to give Amity the work Odalia was demanding.

Odalia wanted to argue and probably would have if Bump didn't pull a play from Eda Clawthorne and threatened to get Darius, the newly elected head of the Abomination coven involved. Bump was aware of the history between Darius and Alador, and how much the coven head couldn't stand the witch.

If Darius would get involved with one of his future coven members and learned of the danger Amity's mother could have put the child in, things wouldn't have looked good for Odalia.

He realized now it was a gambit, one that thankfully paid off. Odalia backed off and the two worked out a middle ground with Amity's studies. Though, Bump wasn't completely sold on Odalia's turn and kept a close eye on the youngest Blight.

Bump's worry was later confirmed when he watched the young witch spiral into a (hidden) state of depression. Bump could see the light slowly dying in the girl's eyes and he tore him apart. He found himself doing something he rarely did in his old age, he prayed to the Titan for aid.

It was like the Titan answered him by sending Lilith Clawthorne to the school. Though she tried to put on a cold and calculated persona, Bump still saw traces of the kind and caring girl that only a few saw.

So he had the two meet and as he hopped, Lilith was taken in by the girl's talent. The coven head had nearly taken Amity on the spot, and Bump was happy about this.

Though there were bumps on the road, in the end, Lilith had done was he had hoped and saved that child…with help from her family.

Frewin asking a question brought Bump out of his thoughts, and he smiled as he went back to work.

"No, I don't think I will tell them the reason I was at the duel was that I saw the children at the Slaygrounds," Bump replied softly. "Or that I had you spy on them for me."

No, as far as Bump was concerned his role with that family had finally come to a close. He had watched a generation of the Clawthorne grow into their own respected ideas of witches. And now, he was watching another generation come into their own.

He frowned as a thought popped into his head, one that filled him with both dread and excitement; would he still be the principal of this school when the next generation of Clawthorne arrives?

I wonder if anyone would have thought much about a single thrown-away line Lilith said at end of the first "Lilith's Remembers" chapter? Let me know.
And with this chapter, we close out The "Raven Will Soar" part of this story and move on to the "Day out" parts. But, first, another Soul Search!
